Both Ward and Skye struggled to sleep that night. Skye couldn't shake that file out of her head. Seeing that Ward had been killed was completely different to him telling her what had happened. Of course she had already watched what she thought was him dying, but seeing Romanov perform CPR like she had made the whole thing more real. All she wanted to do was place her head on his chest all fall asleep to the sound of his heartbeat, but she knew that they slept the way they did for a reason. Ward, for some reason that she hadn't figured out yet had trained himself to only sleep on his left side. Occasionally he would sleep on his back, but the second he slept on his right he woke up.

Not only that Skye couldn't sleep on her right shoulder at the moment.

She felt the mattress move slightly. He was clearly awake too. Then he clicked the bedside light on.

"Ward?" She asked.

"I thought you were asleep. I didn't wake you did I?"

"No. I was still awake."

"You ok?"

Skye sat up and turned to face him. His face looked haunted.

Skye made her decision that he had put himself through agony to keep her safe. Now it was her turn.

She crept forward on the bed and put her arms around his neck. He looked up from his book.

"Skye. What are you doing?" He asked her as she straddled his lap.

"Making you feel better." She replied as she kissed the pulse points in his neck.

"Stop." Ward told her, trying to pull away.

"Are you trying to tell me you don't want me?" Skye asked as she pulled her head back to look at him. She started sucking on her lower lip.

"That is not what I am trying to tell you. I am trying to tell you that your shoulder will not heal if you keep doing things like this."

"So you do want me?"

"More than you can imagine, but I don't want you to get..." Ward started protesting, but jumped a mile when Skye restarted the assault on his neck.

Skye laughed into his skin. She had completely forgotten how ticklish he was around his neck and ears.

"That was mean." Ward told her.

"I'm sorry." She apologised while giggling and pressed her forehead to his.

They stayed this way for a few moments before Ward put his book back on the bedside table. Skye leaned in and kissed him while he put his hands on her bum and pulled her in closer.

"You really aren't going to stop are you?" he asked between kisses.

"Nope" she replied, popping the 'p'.

Ward would probably never admit it but he loved it when she did that.

"In that case." Ward said as he gripped Skye from the behind again and flipped them both over. Skye squealed at the sudden movement and laughed as her head hit the soft pillows.

"But I can't cheer you up like this!" she pouted.

"You already have. Now it's your turn." Ward replied, biting softly on her lower lip that she was still sticking out at him, before placing soft kisses along Skye's broken collar bone.

The following morning Ward woke up first. He dislodged his arm from Skye's side and rolled onto his back. He was a little surprised to find pain running through it.

He laid there for a little while before willing himself to get up. He managed to force himself into a sitting position and then made to swing his legs over the side of the bed. He paused here for a couple of minutes before deciding to summon the strength to stand. Just as he has summoned the strength to move he felt Skye's arms wrap around his neck.

"Morning." She whispered into his ear.

"Morning. How's your shoulder?"

"It doesn't hurt as much as I thought it would."

"That's good."

"Yeah. So what's up with you?"

"Nothing. Just thinking we haven't pranked Amber or Kain for a while."

"And that thought has kept you sat on the edge of the bed for the last twenty minutes?" Skye asked sceptically.

"It hasn't been... Dammit. I think I've taught you too well." Ward admitted, knowing he had been busted.

"So what's up?"

"Back has finally seized up from all of that bruising. It's a little difficult to move."

"Want me to kiss it better?"

Ward leaned back and rested his head on Skye's shoulder.

"No, but you could give me a shove?" he replied.

Skye scuttled back to the middle of the bed and placed her feet (there was no way she could have done it with her hands) and pushed. She saw him bend down to grab some trousers and decided that she would help. He was right about barely being able to move.

As Skye helped him put some clothes on she noticed that the bruising was worse than it had been the last time she had seen it.

Ward noticed the pause.

"It's like any other bruise. It takes a few days to fully come out before it starts to heal. It'll be fine."

There was a knock on the door. Skye was still half naked so Ward went to answer it.

"Hey. Breakfast is ready. I thought I would let you two know." May told them.

"Thanks May. We'll be down in a second."

May gave him a small smile and left for the kitchen.

Ward turned to look at Skye saw her struggling into her top. After last night he was tempted to let her struggle, but when she got stuck he had to help her anyway.

They were laughing about it all the way down the stairs.

When they made it into the kitchen they came face to face with a number of enquiring stares.

"What?" Ward asked.

"You two are up late?" Simmons queried.

"Are we?" Skye asked checking her watch. It read 8am. For them it was late.

"Were you guys playing special Olympics? Fitz asked bluntly.

"Not this morning." Skye responded, as Ward went to get them both cereal bowls.

"Pay up!" May said, holding her hand out and everyone but Coulson added bills to it.

"So why are you up late?" Coulson asked, worried that they were affected more by the files viewed last night than they were letting on.

"We just are." Ward told him, not wanting to admit he was struggling with his back. He went to get the milk and pour it onto the cereal Skye had poured for them.

Sue watched them. They were clearly made for each other and were almost hyper aware of each other's presence.

Rob offered Ward his seat. Ward looked at it.

"It's ok. I'd prefer to stand." He said, knowing that he wouldn't be able to get up again if he took it.

"So Grant, us boys are all off suit shopping today." Rob told him. He didn't look very excited about it. Ward suspected Sue had put him up to it.

"Perfect." Ward replied sarcastically. The last thing he wanted to do was spend all day trying on suit after suit. "Give me twenty minutes will you?"

"Take your time. The shops don't open for another hour and a half."
