They ordered a second bottle of wine to accompany dessert. Skye had ordered the chocolate cake and Ward had ordered the passion fruit crème brûlèe.
"This is amazing." Ward said through a mouthful of dessert.
"So is this. You so need to try it." Skye responded, picking a bite off the cake with her fork and feeding it to Ward.
Ward placed some of his onto a shortbread biscuit and leant across the table so Skye could take a bite out of it.
"That is good, but I like this better." Skye admitted.
They finished their desserts and the waitress cleared their table.
"Can I get you guys anything else?" she asked.
"Nooo, thankyou. If I eat anything else I may just explode!" Skye said, leaning back into her chair relaxing a little.
The waitress looked at Ward.
"We'll just finish the wine thanks."
The waitress nodded and left them alone. Slowly the restaurant around them emptied and soon it was just them left. Realising the time Ward asked the waitress for the bill and paid it. Realising he had drunk a little more than he had intended on drinking he asked her to order them a cab.
When the cab arrived Ward ushered Sky into it and climbed in after her. When he settled in for the ride she snuggled against his chest.
"Thankyou." She whispered.
"What for?" He asked.
"I had an amazing time."
"I'm glad you did." He told her, pulling her in, if it were possible, closer than she already had been.
Sooner than either of them had wanted the taxi pulled up outside the house. Ward paid the taxi and then tried to pull Skye out of the back.
"Noo. I want to stay here." She complained.
"Skye, you're in a food coma. And this guy has got other people he needs to pick up."
"Not going anywhere." She said stubbornly.
Ward wrapped one arm around her shoulder and the other under her knees and lifted her easily out of the cab. Once Ward had closed the door the taxi took off. Ward supported Skye up the path and through the front door. Without turning the light on he led Skye through to the kitchen.
"Surprise!" Everyone yelled as Ward snapped the light on.
Skye wasn't expecting it and she finally burst into tears. She had found a family who loved her and wanted to celebrate her birthday, as fake as it was.
Coulson walked up to her and put his arms around her to try and calm her down. The last thing he wanted to do was upset her.
"I'm ok. I'm just a little overwhelmed." Skye babbled as Coulson led her to a chair. Ward hung back. He had celebrated with her, now it was the turn of the others.
Simmons could not contain her excitement much longer and thrust a parcel in front of Skye.
Inside the parcel was smaller packages. Skye took them and opened them one by one. The first one she opened contained a toiletries gift set. The tags attached to it indicated it was Satsuma scented. Skye opened a tub that claimed to contain body butter and smelled it. It smelt so good she wanted to eat it. Another one of the packages contained a cook book labelled 'Can't Cook/Won't Cook.' This made Skye smile, as she was famous for her inability to make an edible meal.
By the time Skye had got to the end of the box she was sat next to not only the toiletries set and the cookbook but a medical kit, Pepper spray and emergency whistle.
May had got Skye her very own skin tight S.H.I.E.L.D suit, as well as a holster which was specifically designed for her, rather than the standard one. She had also filled it with everything Skye would need on a mission.
Fitz had given her a bracelet similar to the one Tilly was working on.
"It's a tracker, so if you go missing or need our help we can find you." He told her, showing her how to activate it. He also presented her with a watch, similar to the one that he had given Ward for his birthday. He also showed her how to use that.
The first thing Coulson presented her with was a bunch of Sunflowers. He had been a little stuck and had probed Ward for ideas. The second thing was a brand new laptop. It was faster and had a better specification than the one she currently had and she would probably be able to achieve a lot more on it than she could at present.
Sue and Rob presented her with a gift voucher to a spa centre, where she could relax while undergoing a number of therapeutic treatments.
Tilly presented her with some books, including books on Ancient Egyptian history and Mythology.
"Thankyou. All of you." Skye wept, hugging each one of them in turn.
Coulson brought a bottle of Champagne out of the fridge and opened it, pouring Skye a glass first. He then poured everyone else a glass, which Ward declined. He felt he had had enough to drink.
Tilly surprised Skye further by bringing a birthday cheesecake out of the fridge.
"I wish I never ate that dessert now." Skye said, looking at Ward.
"It's ok. It will save for tomorrow." Tilly said, putting it back in the fridge.
They had had a couple of drinks when May brought Twister out from under the counter.
"Who's in?" she asked the group.
"No guns. I don't want to tell Nat why we have bullet holes in the kitchen wall." Ward told them.
"We could play in the woods." Fitz suggested. "It would make setting targets up a lot easier."
"Still no guns or the neighbours will call the police." Coulson told them as they headed for the door.
"I think I'm going to pass." Sue said.
She didn't know what guns had to do with playing twister and she didn't really want to find out. She headed for her back door while everyone headed for the woods. Fitz-Simmons set up the mat while May set up the targets. They had decided Skye would be the one to spin the game due to her shoulder. Ward, feeling sleepy and full from the meal also decided to sit out of the game.
