Ch 2: A new Journey
Ash slowly opened his eyes as he heard the flight attendant over the intercom.
"Attention passengers we are now beginning our decent into Viridian city Kanto. Please make sure your seatbelt are fashioned." Ash yawned before he made sure his seatbelt was fashioned.
Serena slowly woke up and did the same as the airplane slowly made its way towards the large city below. When the plane touched down, Pikachu woke up and yawned as he stretched like a cat.
"Ladies and gentlemen we have now landed in Viridian city international airport." The pilot captain said.
"Well looks like we're back in Kanto." Ash said. Pikachu looked out the window and saw the city as well as the area around the city. Like Ash, Pikachu had been born in Kanto.
Several minutes later Ash, Serena, Pikachu, and Ash's parents had collected their luggage and walked out of the airport.
"Welcome back to Kanto." Felix said. Ash and Serena looked around at Viridian city.
It had been almost 6 years since Ash had left Kanto from Viridian city. It felt good to be back in Kanto, back where he had been born and raised.
For Serena, it was much different. She had only been to Kanto once in her life, when she was a little girl. Even then, she only remembered her time with Ash at summer camp. Viridian city seemed much different than Lumoise or other Kalos cities.
The design of the buildings and streets seemed different than those she was use too.
"So where to now?" Serena asked.
"An old friend of mine said he'd meet us here." Felix said.
"Late as usual Felix." Another voice said. The group turned to see another man standing in front of them. He was tall and very bulky, with a very muscular body. The man had a shaved head and blue eyes with regular light skin.
"Paul." Felix said as he came forward and shared a hug with the man.
"So good to see you again Felix, been almost a year since you last visited. You still enjoying your time with the Kalos brotherhood?" Paul asked.
"Still a good bunch over there." Felix said.
"Delia, good to see you again too. Oh is this your other son and his lady love I've heard about?" Paul asked as he saw Ash and Serena.
"This is my other son Ash and his girlfriend Serena." Felix said.
"Pleasure to meet you." Paul said as she shook Ash's hand.
"You look so much like your father. I was under the impression that you and Red were twins." Paul said.
"We are, just fraternal." Ash said.
"I see.".
"So how have Red and Korrina been doing?" Serena asked.
"They are doing great. I've never seen such devoted guardians at such a young age since Felix and I." Paul said.
"How are things in Kanto?" Felix asked.
"Not as well as we'd like. Team rocket has been getting bolder and bolder lately." Paul said.
"Team rocket." Ash said.
"We've been doing our best to stop them but it's getting ridiculous. The guild in Saffron city had been emptied to assist in places around Kanto." Paul said.
"Where is Red right now?" Delia asked.
"He and Korrina are currently running an assignment. I'm afraid they won't be back until tomorrow morning. You are all welcome to stay at the Viridian guild headquarters." Paul said.
"Actually, Serena and I need to get to Pallet town." Ash said.
"What, but we just go here Ash." Delia said.
"I can't risk missing Daniel. Besides Red isn't here, if I go talk to Daniel now then I can be back by tomorrow to see Red." Ash said.
"He's right Delia, those two will have plenty of time to see Red. This is a big opportunity for him, he shouldn't risk it when Red isn't even here." Felix said.
"We'll be back as soon as we can." Serena said.
"It's going to take you a long time to get to Pallet town on foot. Are you planning on renting a car?" Delia asked.
"No need." A familiar voice said. Ash and the others turned to see none other than Leaf standing behind them.
"Leaf, you're here!" Serena said in excitement. She hadn't seen Leaf in almost 5 years and wasn't expecting to see her.
"Serena , Ash. The professor told me you were coming today and asked me to pick you up." Leaf said.
"Thanks Leaf." Ash said.
"No problem, it's just so good to see you two again." Leaf said.
"We'll be back here as soon as we can." Ash said to his parents.
"Alright , good luck Ash." Delia said. Leaf lead them to the short term parking and a red car. Several minutes later they were driving through the streets of Viridian city.
"So what have you been doing in the last 5 years?" Serena asked Leaf.
"I've been traveling around Kanto and Johto helping the professor with his research on Pokemon. I've been having a great time learning about so many different pokemon. What about you Serena, what have you been up to?" Leaf asked.
"Well I managed to finally get the title grand duchess a few years ago. After that I started performing across Kalos , my pokemon and I really came to love it and we've been doing it ever since." Serena said.
"Really that sounds amazing. You know if Ash gets that recommendation and you stay here longer, I may have something that might interest you. But speaking of Ash, I've heard about your success in the NPC. Very impressive Ash." Leaf said.
"Thanks Leaf, it wasn't easy getting in the NPC." Ash said.
"The professor is very proud of how skilled you've become. Even Gary said he's a bit impressed with you." Leaf said.
"Gary, what has he been doing in the last 5 years?" Ash asked.
"Well 4 years ago he competed in the Indigo league but lost in the 4th round." Leaf said.
"He lost." Ash said. He was surprised not only that Gary lost, but that he didn't even make it to the victory tournament.
"After he lost, he spent a lot of time training his pokemon, almost a year and a half. After that he competed in the Kanto battle frontier and won."
"Well that's very impressive." Ash said.
"That's not all. He traveled to Jhoto and conquered the Jhoto battle frontier as well. Two years ago he gained entrance into the KPTL, and has been battling there ever since." Leaf said. The KPTL was the Kanto Professional Trainers League. In short it was Kanto's equivalent to the NPC. Professional trainers would battle in across Kanto in front of large audiences.
"Wow, I guess Gary hasn't lost his touch." Ash said. It took Leaf a half hour before they were out of Viridian city and down route 1. Now Serena could get a good look at the natural environment of Kanto.
The forests and paths seemed vastly different, but no less beautiful. Serena was amazed with the natural environment.
"Cant looks beautiful. I can't believe I forgot what this place was like." Serena said. It took them another hour before the group reached Pallet town. Ash looked around at the houses and the grassy hills of his hometown.
"Welcome back to Pallet town ." Leaf said. When Serena saw the town she began to relive the memories she had at the town when she was a little girl.
"Here we are." Leaf said as she parked the car in front of Oak's house. The three got out and walked to the front door before Leaf knocked on the door.
A minute later the door opened , revealing professor Oak standing on the other side.
" Well looks like you came." Oak said.
"Professor, it's so good to see you again." Ash said.
"Good to see you too Ash my boy. It's been several years now. Oh Serena's with you, good to see you too my dear." Oak said.
"It's nice to see you too professor. I haven't been in Kanto since I was a little girl." Serena said.
"Well I'm glad you both came here. Daniel will be arriving soon so" Oak started when they heard what sounded like crash inside.
"What was that?" Leaf asked.
"I don't know?" Oak said as he looked back. Moments later they saw a young man who looked about 18 with someone long black hair and brown eyes appear at the end of the hallway. He wore a green t-shirt with blue shorts and a red headband.
"Professor she's doing it again." The young man said.
"Oh no, not again." Oak said as he sweat dropped.
"Oh no." Leaf said.
"What's going on? Who is that?" Ash said.
"Ash this is Tracy, he's one of my research assistants. Right now I need your help come on." Oak said as he rushed inside.
"Where did she go?" Oak asked the young man.
"I don't know, she ran out of the lab room and down this hallway. After that I lost her." Tracy said.
"What's going on?" Serena asked.
"It's one of my starter pokemon, she get's so nervous and scared around people she hasn't seen before. When she gets scared she runs off and hides, split up and help us find her." Oak said before he , Tracy, and Leaf went off in different directions.
"Wait what pokemon is it!?" Ash shouted. He got no response.
"Well at least we know it's a Kanto starter. I suppose we should split up and look too. I'll go down this hallway. Pikachu you take that way, Serena you take the last one." Ash said.
"Alright."
"Pika." Pikachu said nodding before he leapt down and split up with the others. Serena walked down a hallway of the lab looking around for any signs of a pokemon. That is when she heard footsteps and a familiar voice.
"No please stop I'm not going to hurt you!". Serena recognized the voice as Tracy's. The voice was getting closer to her which meant the pokemon must have been to. Moments later she heard a crash as Tracy tripped and slammed into the wall as he rounded the corner.
That was when Serena saw a small Charmander running down the hallway towards her. Serena could see the look of fear and terror in the Charmander's expression as she ran away from Tracy as fast as she could.
When Tracy got up he saw Serena.
"Serena grab her!" Tracy shouted. When the Charmander saw Serena she tried stop herself but ended up tripping over her own tail before tumbling face first into the ground. She slowly raised her head with tears in her eyes as she saw Serena in front of her and Tracy behind her.
"Char." The Charmander said sounding very scared and very sad as she curled up into frightened position on the ground, shaking and crying.
"Aww , you poor thing. I'm not going to hurt you." Serena said as she knelt down in front of the Charmander.
"Good we can get her know." Tracy said as he rushed over.
"Stop!" Serena shouted.
"Huh?" Tracy said.
"You're scaring her. Just let me do it." Serena said. Serena slowly moved her arms under and around the Charmander before slowly lifted her up. The Charmander slowly opened her eyes and saw Serena holding her in her arms.
"You're safe, I'm not going to hurt you." Serena said as she cradled the Charmander. Serena's compassion and gentleness made the Charmander feel less scared and actually somewhat safe. She slowly put her head against Serena's chest as Serena got up.
"Wow, I've never seen that Charmander feel that comfortable around anyone. Even the professor, thanks Serena." Tracy said.
Several minutes later Ash, Pikachu, Leaf, and Oak ran into each other.
"Any sign of her?" Oak asked.
"Nothing yet." Leaf said.
"Ok wait, what pokemon is she exactly?" Ash asked.
"Oh my we didn't tell you. Sorry, she's a" Oak started before being interrupted.
"Professor, we've got her." Tracy said as he and Serena came down the hallway. Ash and Pikachu turned to see Serena with a frightened Charmander in her arms.
"Oh A Charmander." Ash said.
"Thank heavens. Thank you Serena, now let's get to the lab." Oak said. Oak lead them to the main lab room where another young man was waiting for them. Ash's eyes widened as he saw none other than Gary standing across the room from him.
"Well look who's here. How ya doing Ashey boy?" Gary said.
"Gary, I didn't know you were here." Ash said.
"I didn't know you were coming here either. Gramps, why are Ash and his girlfriend here?" Gary said.
"I'l explain later when Daniel get's here." Oak said.
"I see you found Charmander. Poor thing was so scared when she saw me that she ran off." Gary said.
"Charmander's never seen Gary before." Leaf said.
"Why is she so scared?" Serena asked. Oak sighed.
"It's a very sad story. Several weeks ago your brother was on an assignment to stop a group of team rocket poachers who were trying to steel Charmander eggs. Some came to a nest and found only one Charmander hatchling. The parents tried to protect her, but the rocket members had rock and electric types with them. Even after all the abuse the parents refused to give up until they were killed right in front of her eyes." Oak said.
"Oh no." Serena said.
"That was when Red and 2 other guardians arrived on the scene. They dealt with team rocket and found this Charmander. She was so traumatized that she ran away from the guardians. Red brought her to me hoping that I could help her. For weeks now I've tried, but she's so traumatized she wouldn't stay by me for 8 days. I thought maybe as a starter pokemon she's learn to trust humans again. But I fear I may have been overreaching with that idea." Oak said.
"How horrible, I can't believe team rocket can justify things like that." Ash said.
"Me either, people like that make me sick." Gary said.
"Well Charmander hasn't eaten today. She still needs breakfast." Tracy said.
"Right, put her down Serena." Oak said. Serena slowly set the Charmander down. The Charmander was shaking again as she looked very frightened at the sight of Ash.
Ash could see and feel how afraid the poor Charmander was. Her aura was so enclosed that Ash could hardly read it. All he could see was pure terror and fear. Ash tried to communicate with her aura to tell her that he and the others were friends. But the Charmander still kept herself away.
PIkachu leapt off Ash's shoulder and onto the counter the Charmander was on.
"Pika, Pikachu." Pikachu said as he approached her.
"Char!" Charmander shouted in fear as she tried to run away from Pikachu.
"What? Why is she afraid of Pikachu?" Leaf asked.
"Wait electric types were some of the pokemon that killed her parents. Pikachu come back." Ash said. Pikachu sighed. He knew Ash was right, despite how much he wanted to explain to the Charmander that they weren't trying to hurt her.
Pikachu climbed back onto Ash's shoulder as Serena came to the Charmander and comforted her.
"It's ok, we're not going to hurt you." Serena said. The Charmander once again seemed more comfortable around Serena.
"Alright I've got your food." Tracy said as he came over and placed a bowl of food in front of Charmander.
The Charmander looked at the food , but looked uninterested.
"Awe come on Charmander , you haven't eaten all day. It's not healthy." Tracy said.
"I guess fear has stunted her appetite." Oak said.
"Maybe I can help. I remember back when I first got my Fenniken. She was a bit of a picky eater, so I asked nurse Joy what I should feed her and she suggested a recipe for fire types. I think I still have some." Serena said as she took a small container out of her purse.
"Fire type food of course. Why didn't I think of that?" Oak said. Serena opened the case and took out a single piece before holding it in front of Charmander's face.
The Charmander slowly sniffed the piece of pokemon food before giving it a lick. After tasting it, the Charmander slowly put it in her mouth and ate it.
"Char." She said sounding a bit happier.
"I think she likes it." Ash said. Serena took out another piece and fed it to the Charmander and continued to do so.
"Thank you Serena. You seem to comfort her quite well." Oak said. '
"So Ash, I hear you've been competing in the NPC." Gary said.
"Yeah I have. I hear you made it into the KPTL." Ash said.
"Not to shabby huh. I've been taking on the best trainers in all of Kanto and I've been doing great against them." Gary said proudly.
"I suppose not." Ash said. Moments later there was a knock on the lab front door.
"I'll get it." Oak said. He left the room and came back a minute later with none other than Daniel Rian with him.
"Daniel!" Ash and Gary said both full of excitement.
"Ash, Gary good to you both again." Daniel said as he walked in with Oak.
"So I've been hearing good things about you both. The NPC and KPTL, you've both been performing very well." Daniel said.
"That's right, and I'm ready for that recommendation!" Gary said sounding very excited.
"Wait what? But I thought I was getting the recommendation?" Ash said.
"What? No gramps told me to come here so Daniel could give me the recommendation for the elite four." Gary said.
"That's what he told me." Ash said. Leaf and Serena were just as confused with the situation. All eyes turned to Oak and Daniel who were both smiling.
"I called you both here because Daniel asked me too." Oak said.
"Ash, Gary. You're both very skilled trainers, despite your age you've managed to become exceptionally skilled at pokemon training. You may be young but I believe you both worthy of the title elite four. However, there's only one spot available in Kanto, therefore I can only recommend one of you to the Kanto Champion." Daniel said.
"Well who is it?" Gary asked.
"I need to determine which between the two of you is more worthy." Daniel said.
"You want us to have a pokemon battle?" Gary asked.
"No, that's too simple. I have something else in mind." Daniel said.
"What is it?" Ash asked.
"You both have something in common, you've become professional trainers. But neither of you have won an official pokemon league. The Indigo league will be starting up soon, and I want you both to enter." Daniel said.
"What?" Ash and Gary both said.
"A trainer shows what they're truly made of when they are on a journey. I journeyed through every region int he world and became the greatest trainer on earth. I believe that it is a fitting final test for you two. So you will both travel Kanto, collect 8 badges, and then compete a the Indigo Plateau. Whoever wins, get's my recommendation for the elite four." Daniel said.
Ash and Gary couldn't believe what they were hearing. Daniel wanted them to stop everything and travel across the entire Kanto region collecting badges and competing in another Pokemon league.
Gary had already done that 4 years ago and lost in the 4th round. He then joined the professional league and faced off against people who had won pokemon leagues before. He thought himself above another league. But this was a shot at the elite 4, he had to take it.
Ash was unsure of this too. It had been so long since he had gone on a real journey. But the more he thought about it the more he liked the idea. He had never had the chance to compete in the Indigo league like he always imagined he would as a child.
This was his chance to do his journey with all the experience he had and a chance to win. Not to mention doing so would mean he could get into the elite four. He turned to Pikachu who gave a determined smile.
"You think we should do it." Ash asked via aura message.
"Pika!" Pikachu said back sounding very confident.
"Serena, what would you say to another journey?" Ash asked. Serena smiled.
"I'd love seeing this amazing region with you Ash. I'm in." Serena said.
"Very good. You should both head to Viridian city and get registered, it's also where the first gym is." Oak said.
"Also I have another condition for this journey. You can only have two of your current pokemon with you at any time. The rest you must catch and train from scratch." Daniel said.
"What?" Ash and Gary said.
"Otherwise that would be too easy. Good luck." Daniel said before he left the lab.
"Well I guess that means you and Charizard are my two pokemon Pikachu." Ash said.
"Well I'm heading to Viridian city, i'll leave 4 of my pokemon here with you gramps. See ya later Ashey boy. I'm off to win the Indigo league and get into the elite four." Gary said before he walked out of the lab.
"Well we should probably get was good seeing you again Leaf, professor Oak." Ash said.
"Good seeing you too Ash. Good luck out there." Oak said.
"Yeah good luck. Oh and Serena when you get to Viridian city ask around about Pokemon Showcase. I think you'll be quite interested." Leaf said. Ash and Serena were about to leave when the Charmander saw Serena was going away.
"Char!" she wailed as tears of fear came out of her eyes.
"Huh?" Serena said as she and Ash turned around.
"What's wrong Charmander?" Tracy asked as he walked over.
"Char!" Charmander cried again as she reached out to Serena.
"Serena I think she wants to go with you." Ash said.
"She does." Serena said. She walked over to the Charmander and looked into her eyes.
"Well you are the only one she seems to feel comfortable around. Perhaps it's best she go with you. " Oak said.
"Really you'd let me have her." Serena said.
"Of course, it would be good for her and I think you'd do an excellent job raising her." Oak said.
"Thank you professor, I promise I'll take very good care of her." Serena said. Oak took out Charmander's pokeball and handed it to Serena.
"Looks like you're staying with me." Serena said.
"Char!" The charmander said sounding very happy. Serena raised the pokeball and sent the Charmander inside.
"If you'd like I could give you a ride to Viridian city." Leaf said.
"No thanks, since I'm only allowed 2 of my current pokemon with me right now I should probably catch some more." Ash said.
"That's a good idea Ash. Good luck." Oak said. Ash and Serena left the lab when they saw Gary sitting in a red convertable with the top open.
"You're walking. Ha, come on Ashey boy that's for kids. See you at Viridian city." Gary said before he drove off.
"He hasn't changed much." Serena said. Ash and Pikachu looked at route 1. Ahead of them lay their journey through the Kanto region. A journey they were always meant to go on. Now they finally could.
Ash and Pikachu smiled.
"Let's go." Ash said as he and Serena ran ahead into route 1. Forty minutes later the 3 had stopped to take a break and have some lunch on the side of the road. A thick group of trees was on the right side of the road with many bushes around them.
"Come on out Charmander." Serena said. Her new Charmander came out and looked very happy to see her.
"Char." She said.
"You know I think I'm going to give you a name. How do you like Charla?" Serena asked.
"Char Charmander!" She said back nodding her head.
"Charla it is." Serena said.
"That's a nice name. I like it."Ash said. Pikachu came down from Ash's shoulder and slowly approached Charla. When she saw him, Charla got scared and quickly went into Serena's arms.
"Charla it's ok, Pikachu's not going to hurt you. He's a part of a family and one of the nicest pokemon in the world." Serena said. Charla slowly opened her eyes and looked back at Pikachu.
"Pika, Pikachu." Pikachu said in a very friendly tone. He moved closer to her as she slowly moved closer to him.
"Char." She said.
"Pika Pikachu." Ash could feel Charla slowly getting more comfortable around Pikachu.
"What say you meet the rest of the family. Well those with us at least." Serena said as she took out Absol's Pokeball and let him out.
"Ab sol" Absol said as he came out.
"Absol this is Charla. She's the newest member of the family." Serena said. Charla slowly turned and saw Absol.
"Sol." Absol said.
"Char." Charmander said. She didn't seem quite as afraid of him as she was of Pikachu at first.
"Charizard you come out too. I think Charla will be comfortable around you." Ash said. Ash's Charizard came out and stood in front of him. Charizard had grown even larger in the last 5 years.
"Grauu" he growled. Charla's eyes widened as she saw the mighty, muscular, and powerful Charizard standing over her.
"Charizard this is Charla. She's the newest member of the family." Ash said.
"Char." She said as her eyes turned to hearts and her face turned red.
"Is she ok?" Ash asked.
"Oh no." Serena said as she smiled. Charla slowly approached Charizard as the mighty fire lizard looked down at his previous evolved form.
" Char , Charmander" she said. Ash was having a little trouble deciphering what Charla said after hearing it from his connection to Charizard. However, it had something to do with him looking very powerful.
Charizard sighed. He knew where the Charla was going. He didn't want to be mean, but he knew he romantically wasn't interested in a little Charmander. A the same time he could tell from they way Ash felt pity for her that clearly she had endured something very harsh and didn't want to cause her further pain.
"Grauu." Charizard growled. Moments later the hearts in Charla's eyes turned to a crestfallen expression as she slumped over and walked back to Serena.
"What did you say to her?" Ash said.
"Grauu." Charizard said sweat dropping.
"Pika Pika." Pikachu said shaking his head.
Serena sighed as she gave Charla a hug and glared at Charizard, who once again gave a sheepish expression.
It was then Ash felt something strange. It was like another presence had come close by, a strange presence. He used his aura vision but didn't see anything.
"Huh." Ash said. Moments later Ash saw a small Pidgey fly from the trees to the ground.
"Look a Pidgey." Ash said as the others turned to it.
"I should try and catch it. Pikachu weaken him with a Thunder!" Ash shouted.
"Pika chu!" Pikachu shouted as he leapt up and unleashed a massive bolt of electricity at the small bird. The Pidgey turned his head just in time to see the Thunder before it engulfed him.
The small bird pokemon sqwuaked in pain before fainting with swirly eyes and singed feathers.
"Oh right." Ash said as he and Pikachu sweat dropped.
"Maybe you should just try using a pokeball." Serena said. Moments later Ash felt something else, aura being used in a way he had never felt it used before. Suddenly a Spearow shout out from the trees and flew right at Ash.
Without hesitation, Pikachu leapt up and blasted the Spearow with a blast of electrify. The Spearow landed on the ground in front of Ash with swirly eyes.
"What the heck?" Ash said.
"Why did that Spearow come at you like that?" Serena asked. Before Ash could say anything another 3 Spearow shot out from the tree-line and flew right at Ash. Ash felt something strange about their aura's , almost as if they weren't in control of their own minds.
Charla was frightened by the Spearows and went right back into Serena's arms. Once again, Pikachu leapt up and blasted two of the Spearow with electricity as Charizard opened his mouth and blasted the third with a powerful jet of fire.
All 3 Spearows dropped to the ground unconscious as Ash and Serena got up.
"Alright what's going on here?" Serena asked. Ash used his aura vision again, only this time he saw something, or someone hiding in the trees.
"I know you're up there. Show yourself!" Ash shouted. Moments later a man leapt out of the trees. The man was large and muscular looking. He wore a black and red aura guardian robes with a black cloth covering his mouth and brown eyes. Near the too of his robe under the cloth over his mouth and chin was a small emblem with a red R on it.
"An aura guardian?" Ash asked. Before he could even react the guardian raised his arm and unleashed a powerful burst of aura that hurled all of them to the ground, including the Pokemon. As Ash was knocked onto his back , the Guardian sprinted over with his hidden blades out and tried to assassinate Ash. Just before he could Ash brought his leg up and held the man's chest back.
The guardian was persistent, he forced himself forward and Ash's leg down. Ash brought his arms up to block the man's arms, but the guardian slowly moved his hidden blades closer to Ash's throat. Ash quickly tried to force the man off him with a burst of aura, but the blast only knocked the man back up a few inches.
When Pikachu got up and saw this he quickly unleashed a powerful bolt of electricity at the aura guardian. The guardian felt it coming and threw up a barrier of aura that shielded him. However, it did take his focus off Ash. This allowed Ash to get his other hand on the man's wrist and twisted it against his joint.
Ash now had enough room to deliver a powerful kick to the man's chest, forcing him off. Not a moment After Ash got up, the guardian came back with his hidden blades out. Ash let out his own hidden blades and tried to block the man's strikes. But this guardian was very skilled.
Ash could hardly keep up with him, plus each time he blocked one of the man's strikes he was either kicked or punched by the man. It became clear to Ash that whoever this guardian was, he could not beat him.
When Serena saw this she picked up a rock and ran over towards Ash with Absol beside her. The aura guardian raised his offhand and unleashed an aura sphere that hurled them back to the ground.
He then thrusted both his hidden blades at Ash. Ash managed to use his own hidden blades to block them, but the man used his strength to slowly push his own hidden blades closer to Ash's chest.
Ash began to sweat as the blasted got closer to his body.
"Pika chu!" Pikachu shouted as he turned his tail metal and smashed it into the man's side. The aura guardian was knocked back just enough for Charizard to rush forward and slam both his wing's into the man. The aura guardian was hurled back in front of the trees.
Charla was now very frightened as she hid behind Serena. The aura guardian got up and saw all of the group facing him now.
He took out a black pokeball and sent out a massive Garchomp.
"Grouuw!" The Garchomp roared. The Garchomp was larger than Ash's Charizard and had a large scar over his left eye. The aura guardian revealed a mega evolution stone. He touched the stone as a colorful sphere formed around the Garchomp.
When it vanished the Garchomp grew in size , many of its features were more angular. Including its head and shoulders. Ten spikes sprouted from the sides of its abdomen, two spokes on the bottom of each arm, and its hands mouth into sharp, red blades. Red spikes also began to sprout from its knees . Ash and Serena both touched their mega evolution stones as Charizard and Absol both mega evolved.
After Charizard Mega evolved Charla looked over and saw Charizard in his mega evolved form, her face turned red once again.
"Char" she said with her tongue hanging out.
"Charizard use Dragon Pulse! Pikachu use Iron tail!".
"Absol use Night Slash!". Charizard Y quickly flew up into the air and unleashed a powerful pulse of dragon energy at the Garchomp.
At the same time Pikachu turned his tail metal and sprinted at Garchomp like a bolt of lightning. Absol was close behind with the fin on his head glowing black.
The guardian said nothing, but his Garchomp began to glow with violet dragon energy around him. He flew forward using dragon rush to knock Pikachu and Mega Absol out of his path. When the Dragon pulse got close to him, the mega Garchomp turned his claws violet and held them in front of him as he absorbed the dragon pulse.
As soon as it ended, the mega Garchomp smashed his claws into the ground then unleashed a barrage of sharp rocks right at Charizard Y.
"Dodge it!" Ash shouted. Charizard Y quickly dove down, narrowly avoiding the Stone edge. The Mega Garchomp leapt up and soared into the air with dragon energy around him. Before Charizard Y could even sense him, the Mega Garchomp smashed into Charizard Y's Chest with Dragon rush.
"Seismic toss!" Ash shouted. Charizard Y growled as he snatched the Garchomp by his arms and held him in place. Charizard Y quickly flew up and did 3 air spins before flying towards the ground as fast as he could.
Just before impact, Charizard Y hurled the Mega Garchomp into the ground.
"Iron tail!".
"Night slash!". Before the Garchomp could get up, Pikachu moved over to him like a flash of lightning and smashed his tail across the Garchomp's face.
As the Garchomp stumbled backwards he was slashed across the stomach with night Slash. The Mega Garchomp raised his head at the 3 pokemon facing him and snarled.
Ash knew the aura guardian had to be giving commands to his Garchomp via aura message. Which meant he would be unpredictable.
The Garchomp charged right at Pikachu with Dragon rush as he glowed violet.
"Intercept him with Air slash! Pikachu dodge and use Iron tail." Ash shouted.
"Absol use Rock tomb!". Charizard Y flew right at the Mega Garchomp as he rushed at Pikachu. Just before Charizard Y could reach the Garchomp, it turned and unleashed a powerful Stone edge.
"Look out!" Ash shouted. Charizard Y tried to stop but he was too close . The sharp rocks raked across his body and hurled him back doing a lot of damage.
As Mega Absol unleashed several massive rocks and Pikachu came at him with Iron tail. The Mega Garchomp, brought his dragon claws up and blocked Pikachu's strike before slashing him across the chest.
He then turned and used his claws to slash each of the rocks to pieces. After each rock was destroyed, the Mega Garchomp leapt up and smashed his feet into the ground causing an earthquake.
"Char!" Chairmanned cried out in fear. Serena quickly picked up Charla before Pikachu and Mega Absol were both hit by the Earthquake.
Now all 3 pokemon felt fatigued and grit their teeth as the Mega Garchomp turned back towards them.
The Garchomp leapt up high as he prepared to cause another earthquake.
"Charizard fly low and use Dragon Pulse. Pikachu onto his back." Charizard growled as he flew in low enough for Pikachu to leap up and onto the top of his head.
"Detect Absol!" Serena shouted. Since Pikachu and Charizard were in the air, they were unaffected by the Earthquake. Mega Absol detected where the seismic quakes would be and moved to each safe area.
Charizard Y opened his mouth and unleashed a powerful pulse of Dragon energy right at Garchomp.
The Garchomp unleashed a burst of sharp rocks at Charizars Y before holding his dragon claws over his body.
"Swords dance into Night slash!" Serena shouted.
"Iron Tail!" Ash shouted. As Mega Absol powered himself up, Pikachu turned his tail metal and smashed each of the incoming rocks away from Charizard Y.
Meanwhile Mega Absol ran at Mega Garchomp from his side and slashed him with a powered up Night slash. The attack forced Mega Garchomp to raise his arms away from his body, allowing the Dragon Pulse to smash right into his chest.
"Grouuw!" The Garchomp roared in pain.
"Iron tail!" Ash shouted. Pikachu leapt off Charizard's head and smashed the Mega Garchomp across the face.
The Mega Garchomp stumbled backwards and started breathing deeply. The aura guardian took a deep breath as his eyes turned blue. Ash felt the Mega Garchomp's power rise as his eyes also turned blue.
Ash knew one could encourage or reinforce the determination of one's pokemon with an aura connection ,but he had never heard of one actually increasing their power with it. However, that wasn't all that was happening. Ash felt the guardian's aura doing something else.
Suddenly 12 Spearow shout out from the trees with their eyes glowing blue. They were heading right at Pikachu, Absol, and Chartizard Y.
"No, it can't be." Ash said. Pikachu, Absol, and Charizard Y each had 4 Spearow swarming around them, using peck on them.
"Absol get them with Rock tomb!" Serena shouted. Absol unleashed several massive boulders across the air that smashed into the 4 Spearow and knocked them all out. Before Serena or Mega Absol could even react, the Mega Garchomp rushed over using Dragon rush , and smashed into mega Absol.
"Absol!" Serena shouted. Mega Absol hit the ground hard and couldn't get back up. He reverted back to his normal form before Serena returned him to his pokeball.
"Charizard Flamethrowr. Pikachu Thunder!". Charizard growled in anger as the 4 Spearow pecked at him. He opened his mouth and unleashed massive jet of fire around him that engulfed and knocked out all 4 Spearow.
Before he could even react, the Mega Garchomp soared up and smashed into Charizard Y with Dragon rush. The Mega Garchomp then slashed Charizard Y across the chest with Dragon claw before hurling him into the ground with Stone edge.
"Charizard!" Ash shouted. Charizard Y hit the ground hard and reverted back to his normal form. Despite this, he wasn't knocked out yet. He was able to stay on his knees and arms as he glared up at the Mega Garchomp.
"Char!" Charla shouted in fear. At the same time, Pikachu unleashed a powerful burst of Thunder that engulfed the 4 Spearow around him, knocking each one out.
"Pikachu look out!" Ash shouted. Pikachu looked up as the Mega Garchomp smashed into the ground causing another Earthquake. Before Pikachu could even react, he was hit by the seismic quakes.
The Mega Garchomp rushed forward and slashed Pikachu across the chest with a powerful Dragon claw, hurling Pikachu back.
Ash could feel how hurt and fatigued Pikachu was. He wanted to call him back, but this wasn't a normal battle.
"Come on Pikachu we have to beat this guy. I know you can stay in it." Ash said. Pikachu got up and sparked his cheeks as he growled.
"Come on Pikachu, you can do it!" Serena shouted.
"Iron tail!" Ash shouted.
"Pika chu!" Pikachu shouted as he sprinted forward at the Mega Garchomp.
The Mega Garchomp leapt up and smashed his feet into the ground, causing massive seismic quakes.
"Agility!" Ash shouted. Pikachu quickly leapt from place to place, avoiding each wave of seismic energy as it came past him.
The Garchomp opened his mouth and unleashed a massive ball of dragon energy into he air.
"Draco meteor!" Ash shouted. The ball of dragon energy bursted into several smaller meteorites that flew at Pikachu.
Despite this , Pikachu either dodged each meteorite or used his Iron tail to push himself off them.
When he reached Mega Garchomp, the dragon raised his claws as they glowed violet.
"Pika chu!" Pikachu shouted as he leapt up and over the Garchomp's Dragon claws before smashing his tail into the Garchomp's face.
"Grouw! The Mega Garchomp roared in pain as he stumbled backwards and fell to one knee. The aura guardian took another deep breath before his eyes glowed blue again.
The group heard a lot of rustling and flapping noises approaching them. Moments later a massive Fearow flew from the trees with dozens of Spearow beside him.
All of the birds' eyes were glowing blue as Ash felt the guardian's aura in theirs. Ash didn't think it possible, but somehow the aura guardian was controlling the Spearow.
The guardian raised his hand and pointed at the group before the Fearow and his Spearow began swarming the group.
"Look out!" Ash shouted as he and Serena raised their arms over their faced. Pikachu and Charizard grit their teeth as they were pecked and scratched by all the birds.
Charla saw Charizard getting swarmed by the bird and began to remember her parents getting attacked by team rocket and their pokemon. They were mercilessly attacked and she could do nothing but watch.
Not this time. Charla leapt out of Serena's arms and ran over to Charizard.
"Charla!" Serena shouted. Charizard felt another Spearow slash across his face before he looked up and saw them coming back at him.
He tried to raise his head to use Flamethrower, but the pain as too great. Just before the Spearow could reach him, Charla got in between them and opened her mouth.
"Char mander!" She shouted as she opened her mouth and unleashed a jet of fire with everything she had.
"What?" Serena said in disbelief. Even Charizard's eyes widened as he saw the young Charmander learn Flamethrower so quickly. The Flamethrower engulfed 6 of the Spearow, dropping them to the ground.
"Char." Charla said.
"Pika chu!" Pikachu shouted as he blasted 6 of the Spearow with electricity , knocking them out. Despite this, there were simply to many Spearow. Pikachu looked up and saw the Fearow coming right at him. Just before the bird could reach Pikachu, a barrier of aura formed around Pikachu, stopping the birds in their tracks.
Ash sprinted forward through the swarm and picked up Pikachu before sprinting out and returning Charizard to his Pokeball.
"Serena we need to run!" Ash shouted. Serena returned Charla before sprinting along side Ash away from the swarm.
The aura guardian ordered the swarm to pursue and the flock quickly flew after Ash and Serena. Ash and Serena sprinted across route 1. As Ash ran, he also tried to heal Pikachu with aura, but doing so on the run wasn't easy. After a few minutes of running they came to a ridge with a river below.
"We have to jump." Ash said.
"We're pretty high up." Serena said.
"Serena we don't have a choice." Ash said.
Serena turned around and saw the flock approaching.
"Aww," Serena said before she jumped into the river below.
"You to Pikachu." Ash said.
"Pika." Pikachu said sounding fatigued before jumping into the river. Ash dove forward and performed a leap of faith into the water.
After Pikachu landed in the water and tried to swim to the surface. He was so tired and hurt, that just swimming up was a challenge.
That was when Pikachu saw something floating in front of him. He reached out and grabbed it.
Nearby a young woman was sitting at the edge of the river with a fishing pole in her hands. The young woman had orange hair with a side pony tail, and viridian eyes. She wore a sleepless yellow jacket and matching shorts.
A few feet away from her was her bike and bag resting on the ground.
""Sigh", it's been twenty minutes and I haven't even gotten a nibble." The girl started before she felt a tug on the line.
"Oh finally!" She said as she yelled it in.
"I finally have another water type." The girl started before she saw a Pikachu holding onto he line.
"A pikachu?" The girl said. Moments later the saw a young man and woman climbing out of the river.
"What the hell? Who are you guys?Why are you the river?" The girl asked.
"Pikachu." Ash said as he came over and took him from the end of the line.
"Come on, we need to keep moving." Ash said.
"What's going on?" The girl asked.
"There's no time to explain you have to get out of here." Serena said. Moments later Ash saw the aura guardian and his Mega Garchomp standing over the ridge with the flock of Spearow over them.
"Oh no." Serena said.
"What's going on?" The girl asked. The Mega Garchomp opened his massive jaws and opened unleashed a sphere of dragon energy into the air.
The sphere burst into a barrage of meteorites that came down towards the group.
" Look out!" Ash shouted. The group scattered as the meteorites crashed into the ground. As the girl ran away one of the meteorites smashed into her bike.
"My bike!" The girl shouted.
After Ash and Serena avoided each of the meteorites, the aura guardian performed a leap of faith and leapt into the water. The swarm Mega Garchomp soared down as the flock of Spearow followed.
The girl ran off as Ash and Serena tried to get away. As the aura guardian tried to pursue he noticed that his Mega Garchomp was too hurt to continue. He sighed before commanding the flock of Spearow to pursue.
Ash and Serena continued running until the Spearow reached them and surrounded them.
"Now what, I can't keep running Ash." Serena said.
"Pika!" Pikachu growled as he sparked his cheeks.
"Pikachu can you keep going?" Ash asked.
"Pika pikachu" shouted despite his fatigue. Moments later, Charizard and Charla came out of their pokeballs.
"What are you guys doing out?" Serena asked.
" Grauu." Charizard growled.
"Char". Charla said. Ash could tell from his aura connection with Charizard, that despite his fatigue he didn't want to leave Pikachu or Ash hanging when he could still help.
The Spearow sqwuaked as the Spearow began to swarm around the group. Pikachu blasted as many of the Spearow as he could as Charizard and Charla tried to blast them with fire.
At the same time Ash tried to shield his pokemon and Serena from the Spearow with aura. It wasn't easy, especially as the Spearow also began to peck and rake against him.
"Ash!" Serena shouted. Despite the danger, Serena ran out of the barrier and embraced Ash, trying to absorb some of the damage.
Charizard knocked out another 4 Spearow when the Fearow slashed the back of his head with arial ace.
"Grauu!" Charizard groaned as he fell to his knees and hands.
"Char!" Charla shouted as she saw 4 more Spearow coming in at Charizard. She opened her mouth and unleashed Flamethrower, engulfing the 4 Spearow and knocking them out.
The Fearow came around and slashed Charla across the face with Arial ace.
"Char!" Charla cried out in pain as she fell to the ground in front of Charizard.
Ash did his best to keep the Spearow away from Pikachu before Serena saw the Fearow come in at them.
"Ash!" Serena shouted. Ash turned just in time to see the Fearow come in and slash him and Serena, knocking them to the ground.
Pikachu saw this and growled as another 6 Spearow flew at him.
"Pika Chu!" PIkachu shouted as he unleashed another Thunder and knocked out 6 of the Spearow. Moments later the Fearow came in from behind and slashed Ash across the back.
"Chu!" Pikachu grunted as he fell to the ground. Ash and Pikachu looked up and saw the Fearow and dozens of Spearow still around them.
Pikachu and Ash had no energy left and yet the Spearow were still coming. Was this it, after everything whey went through together. Was this finally the end.
Serena felt her eyes tear up as she hugged Ash. Charizard looked down at Charla and saw how scared she was. He sighed as he wrapped his arms around her and covered her with his wings.
"Pikachu, I'm sorry that we ended up here. But no matter what, we can't give up. Never give up until the end." Ash said to Pikachu through an aura message. Pikachu looked up as the Fearow came in at them with all his Spearow beside him.
Pikachu felt his connection with Ash grow as stronger than it ever had been before. He slowly got to his feet and sparked his cheeks.
"Pika , Pika" Pikachu said as his power surged. Ash felt power in Pikachu, power like he had never felt before. Pikachu began to glow blue as electricity surged inside him and a blue sphere of electricity formed around him.
"Chu!" Pikachu roared as he unleashed all the electricity he had stored. A blue bolt of electricity flew down and burst into a storm of electricity around him.
The Fearow and Spearow all sqwuaked in pain as they were all filled with electricity. The light was blinding , Ash and the others couldn't see anything.
When the light faded Ash and Serena opened their eyes to see Pikachu standing over dozens of unconscious Spearows and an unconscious Fearow.
"Pika chu." Pikachu said before he fell over.
"Pikachu." Ash said. Pikachu opened his eyes and saw Ash in front of him. The two smiled at each other.
"Serena, we made it." Ash said. Serena opened her eyes and looked around.
"What? How?" Serena asked.
"PIkachu, he saved us. He used a more move powerful than any I've ever seen." Ash said.
"Wait where's Charla?" Serena said sounding very concerned.
Charizard opened up his wings revealing Charla.
"Oh thank Reduka." Serena said. Charla slowly stepped out. She still felt very hurt from the Spearows' attacks as she stood in front of Charizard.
She turned to him.
"Char?" She said asking if he was ok. Charizard was very impressed with how brave this young Charmander had been that day. How she stepped up and protected him from the Spearow at her own personal risk, and how she learned Flamethrower on the spot.
With the danger gone, Ash and the others looked up into the air. Moments later they saw something in the air.
It looked like a large Pheonix with gold and red feathers, yellow tail-feathers, a white underside, and green feathers at the tip of its wings. It had a green stripe on its neck, a yellow beak, black rings around its red eyes, and a feathered, yellow crest on its head. It's wings were prismatic, causing it to trail a rainbow behind it. It has darkly colored feet and legs with four toes and long talons.
"What pokemon is that? It's beautiful." Serena said. Ash slowly reached for his pokedex and aimed it at the pokemon.
"No data available." The pokedex said.
"Wow, not even the pokedex knows." Ash said. He and Serena slowly got up. Ash could feet how fatigued his pokemon were.
"Alright we can't be that far from Viridian city. Let's get you guys to the pokemon center." Ash said.

So we get to the plot of this story, Ash will be competing in the Indigo league. Facing gym leaders, and competing at the Indigo plateau.
Some of you have asked what happened between Ash and Red. The exact details will be fanned out over the entire story, but things will be explained when Ash first meets up with Red.
Aside from the Garchomp seen, most of the pokemon in this story will be Kanto native generation 1 pokemon like in the original anime.
