He's Just My Everything
Kill The Messenger
~3rd Person's P.O.V.~
Rory's legs burned from the speed of his flashing, yet he only pushed harder. Benny was either dead, fighting for his life, or about to.
When he arrived, he hit the door almost hard enough to splinter the wood. Benny answered the door, looking as if he hadn't slept in days. His red eyes were rimmed purple, and Rory stressed over his condition. He wasn't ready for battle.
"Rory? What are . . . never mind. Come in, please." He spoke softly, moving with patience. Rory came in and slammed the door behind him. Benny started.
"Listen closely." He said, rounding on his 'ex-friend'. "Aiden should be here any millisecond to kill you. I can explain later. I need you to move and get ready as I speak." Benny stood frozen, eyes wide at Rory. "Move!" He yelled.
Benny started moving quickly through the house. "Why are you helping me, then?"
"Shut up. You live through this, I'll gladly tell you. But you need to concentrate." He stopped short as Benny swung open the fridge and yanked out an energy drink, swigging heartily. He closed the door and tossed the can in the sink, wiping his mouth with the back of his hand.
"Okay. Go on." He said, with adrenaline strained in his voice. He then wobbled and belched, then ran to the door leading to the basement. Rory shook his head.
"Aiden is weak for human blood, you know that." Benny nodded, opening a Spellbook and quickly flipping through it. "And as a vampire, he can only be killed by a stake in the heart. He has to be invited in, but I bet Jesse has a Spell on him that enables him to come in long enough to, well, you know."
"Okay. Can you get me a pencil?" Rory raised an eyebrow, then flashed around the house, finally finding one, then handed it to Benny. He quickly scribbled in neat, clear writing. He turned the pages again, wrote another thing down, then did this once more. He tucked the pencil in his ear then held up the paper proudly.
"A cheat sheet?" Rory deadpanned.
"Got a better idea? Have you memorized Latin? Wait, sorry, this one's in Greek." Benny sarcastically pointed at the second Spell.
"Benny." Rory growled impatiently.
"Right, right. Ugh, I need another drink of that stuff." Benny stumbled toward the stairs, gripping the paper tightly. He also grabbed a stake on the way. Rory led the way up, anxious.
"I'm really surprised he hasn't -" Rory's words were cut short as Aiden grabbed his shirt, pulling him to the ground.
"Ah!" Benny rushed forward, but Aiden knocked him away. When Rory stood again, Aiden was behind him. He grabbed Rory, squeezing hard. A sickening snap was heard, and Rory fell to the ground, limp and bent in a weird angle. "Rory!"
Rory wanted to tell him he was okay, that it was just his back and he was already healing. But he couldn't speak. He knew that only happened when he was supposed to be dead. But he was okay. He couldn't see the two other boys, but he knew Benny was paying attention to the wrong vampire.
"Now, I know there are so many ways to kill you." Aiden said, examining his nails. "So I'll let you choose."
"How about, in my own time?" Benny said, eyes narrowed.
"Hmm. Whatever. I'll just pick, then." He hissed and lunged.
Benny scrambled around for his cheat sheet, but his exhausted brain couldn't supply him what he needed, and he was inevitably knocked to the ground.
In a panic, Benny reached under him and attempted to pull the stake out of his waist belt. Just as his fingers brushed against the grain of the wood, Aiden pulled his arm back.
"Sorry, can't let you do that." He jeered. Aiden's other hand slowly wrapped around his throat.
"Please, no-" Benny started, but the vampire suddenly squeezed hard, making the rest of his pleading come out in an incoherent rasp. Aiden's middle and forefinger pressed against his jugular to keep his pulse.
"Luckily, after you're dead, you won't be needing that blood." Aiden continued to taunt, his fangs dropping to back up his promise.
Just as Benny's throat was going numb, and his eyesight was being devoured by spots, he moved his hands from Aiden's and grasped the pencil in his hair and plunged forward with all he had, putting it straight through Aiden's chest. Benny knew it must've only broken skin, but it was enough.
Aiden Powers slowly turned to ashes.
After some time, Rory stood shakily and looked at the gasping mortal on the floor. His throat was red, but he looked like he would make it fine.
"Benny . . . " Rory sighed, relieved.
"You're okay." Benny croaked, making them both inwardly cringe.
"I'm fine. He just broke my back and crushed my organs." Rory joked halfheartedly.
"You've got some explaining to do, remember?" Benny inquired as he stood, holding onto the vampire for balance.
Rory wrapped his arm around Benny's side. "There's more I have to do, first, okay? I'll drop you off at Ethan's house. I gotta check on Gwen."
After he dropped Benny off, telling Ethan that the mortal would explain, he took off for the Mansion. As soon as he was invited in, he rushed around, looking for Gwen, not caring if the surrounding vampires became suspicious. Once he found her, he wordlessly pulled her to a private place.
"After what you asked me to do," Rory started. "Aiden went to do it. I was able to warn Benny, and now Aiden is dead."
"What? You saved Benny? The guy I had to kill?" Gwen said, pure shock in her voice.
"Yeah, Rory." Came a new voice. One that sent chills up the two's spines. "You saved Benny? Who I had ordered dead?" Jesse stepped closer showing hidden rage in his orbs. His gaze then turned to Gwen, who flinched back. "I put you in charge because I trusted you with the task. And you picked this idiot?"
"I-I. . ." Gwen sputtered, fear building in her green orbs. Rory tensed.
Jesse raised both eyebrows, and his eyes became white, locked on Gwens'. Rory watched as her expression cleared, then she slowly reached for a nearby stake, positioning it in front of her chest.
As she brought it down, Rory shouted, "No!" and with one hand blocked the stake, and with the other grabbed her head and turned her face into his chest.
Pain seared through his palm, now impaled with the wood. Simultaneously, Gwen shuddered against his chest and pressed forward into the other blonde.
Jesse lunged forward, fangs out toward his two targets, but Rory reared back. Gwen cried out as Jesse's nails scratched her back. Rory grabbed Gwen's hand and they flashed out of the house as quickly as possible through the bodies.
They went through the door just in time, and Jesse froze in the doorway, watching them go. He turned back to the horde of vampires, who watched with shock and curiosity. Jesse curled his lip and stood on the nearest table.
"Gather, my alleys, come close to me." He called to all who hadn't seen the event. Soon the living room was packed with vampires.
"Rory has betrayed us. Turned against his own." Jesse began. "Gwen had chosen to side with him, and they are now siding with our enemies. The time to strike will never be greater to our advantage. We target the two of them, Benny Weir, and Erica Jones. Casualties are unconcernaing. With the strength of-"
"What?" Came a small voice from the back of the room. Everyone, including Jesse, turned to see Sarah, bare except for the blanket haphazardly pressed against her chest to cover her torso. "You plan to kill Benny?"
"Who that?" Someone asked.
"She's Jesse's plaything. How undisciplined. She's come out of her assigned chambers." Someone else answered with disgust.
Jesse bared his teeth in anger. "Someone get her back to her room."
As a vampire grabbed her arm, her body being jerked away and her skin exposed, she whimpered, "You promised."
As soon as she was gone, Jesse continued. "With the strength of numbers, we can get this over with in little over an hour. Tomorrow night, we will take action."
Jesse waited for the vampires to settle down again, excitement for the battle running through the crowd. "I ask, my comrades, that you refrain from feeding, for the sake of the battle. The humans will be your next meal.
"And one more thing." Jesse finished. "The girl will more than likely be protected my a vampire named Ethan. Save him for me."
