CH 12: Battle camp
It was early in the morning on route 5 and Ash was training with Bulbasaur. Pikachu smashed a rock towards Bulbasaur with his tail.
"Vine whip!" Ash shouted.
"Saur!" Bulbasaur shouted as he smashed his vines into the incoming rock, causing the rock to break into 2 pieces.
"Alright, great job Bulbasaur." Ash said.
"Saur!".
"His abilities certainly have progressed since you opened up an aura connection with him. I remember when I first opened up a connection with Seviper." Lucy said.
Pikachu used his Iron tail to launch another 3 rocks into the air.
"Razor leaf!".
"Saur!" Bulbasaur shouted as he unleashed several sharp leaves that each hit their mark and sliced the rocks into pieces.
"Awesome." Ash said.
Lucy turned to Brock who was with his pokemon.
"Alright Onix is your neck feeling better?" Brock asked.
"Grooou." Onix said nodding. Lucy sat down next to them.
"I can tell you two have a strong bond. Your auras' seem very close." Lucy said.
"You can tell that?" Brock said.
"It's all a part of reading a pokemon's aura. Knowing who they really are inside." Lucy said.
"Really, tell me what you can read about Onix." Brock said.
"Alright then." Lucy said as she read Onix's aura and tried to communicate with him.
"Alright let's see, he's been with you for 13 years now. Your father gave him to you as a birthday present." Lucy said.
"That's , that's right." Brock said as his face turned red.
"He likes spicy food, thinks the best offense is a good defense, likes to crush larger rocks into smaller ones when he's bored, and is still convinced your Geodude is actually a female." Lucy said.
"Amazing!" Brock said as he blushed again and took Lucy's hand.
"You can understand pokemon so well. We're meant to be together!" Brock said. Lucy blushed as she slowly lowered her head.
Meanwhile Serena stood in front of Charla and Nidoran.
"Alright guys you performed well in Cerulean city , but we can't slack off. We must continue training. So I've been thinking of a new routine for each of you." Serena said.
"Char."
"Ni."
"Let's give it a try, Charla I want you to use Flamethrower right into the the air, then jump into the fire." Serena said.
"Char!" Charla shouted as she opened her mouth and unleashed a jet of fire straight into the air. Once it was tall enough, Charla leapt up and into the fire.
"Now come out using a spinning Scratch!" Serena shouted. Charla spun herself around with her claws held out. As a result fire spun around her almost like a small tornado. Charla hit the ground with her claws in front of her, carrying more fire over her.
"Alright that turned out great Charla." Serena said.
Meanwhile Pikachu launched another 5 rocks at Bulbasaur using Iron tail.
"Dodge them!" Ash shouted.
"Saur!" Bulbasaur shouted as quickly moved across the ground, evading each rock with his newfound speed and agility.
"Bulbasaur use Vine whip!" Ash heard.
"Saur?" Bulbasaur said sounding confused.
"Did you guys hear that?" Ash asked. He and the others headed towards the voice when they found none other than Sam and her Bulbasaur battling another young man with a Raticate.
"Tail whip into tackle!" The young man shouted. His Raticate leapt up and smacked Sam's Bulbasaur's vines away before rushing at him.
"Bulbasaur use Razor leaf!" Sam shouted. Just before Raticate could reach Bulbasaur, he was barraged with with sharp leaves.
"Vine whip!" Sam shouted. Her Bulbasaur wrapped his vines around Raticate and hurled him into the ground.
"Raticate!" The young man shouted.
"Schaa." The large rat ground as his eyes turned swirly.
"Alright we did it Bulbasaur." Sam shouted.
"It's Sam." Ash said.
"Wait a minute, was that?" Sam said as she turned and saw Ash with the others.
"Ash it is you!" She shouted as her face turned red.
"Ash?" Her opponent asked.
"Ash Ketchum! Of the NPC!" Sam shouted as she ran over.
"Ash It's so good to see you again!" Sam said as she blushed.
"Sam, how have you been doing?" Serena asked. When Sam saw Serena her happy expression turned to a more irritated one.
"Oh, I've been doing fine. So what are you guys doing here?" Sam asked.
"We were on our way to Vermillion city." Brock said.
"Wait who is this girl?" Lucy asked.
"Oh sorry Lucy, this is Sam. She's a trainer we met back in Cerulean city. Sam this is Pike queen Lucy of the Battle Frontier. She's traveling with us now. " Ash said.
"Really? Why?" Sam asked.
"Well, I thought it would be a good chance to see more of Kanto, with these guys who are very friendly." Lucy said trying to sound convincing.
Ash and Serena knew the real reason she wanted to travel with them. Brock was still oblivious to it though.
"Wait this guy was in the NPC?" The other trainer asked.
"This guy is one of the finest trainers in the NPC!" Sam shouted at him.
"Is he with the other professional trainer then?" He asked.
"Other professional trainer?" Ash asked.
"Oh I'm so sorry. Let me explain what's going on, you see I was on my way to Vermillion city when I found out that a professional trainer is hosting few days of training camp for young trainers. I thought I'd enroll." Sam said.
"Who is this trainer?" Ash asked.
"He's a veteran from the KTPL , and says he's in the running to join the Kanto elite four." The other trainer said.
"You should meet him, come on we'll show you the camp." Sam said. She lead them to a small campsite. The campsite seemed like a smaller version of the summer camp Ash and Serena went to as children. There were a few older looking cabins around a small lake.
Around the camp were around 2 dozen young trainers with their pokemon out. Some were resting, some training, and some battling each other.
"This camp seems a bit, makeshift." Lucy said.
"Yeah, is there anyone else running it besides this professional trainer?" Brock asked.
"Well, no." Sam said.
"Huh a camp, kind of reminds me of another certain camp." Serena said as her face turned red and she took Ash's hand. Sam saw this and gave another irritated look.
"Hey guys, another training session has been called. He wants us all to be there." Another trainer said.
"Come on he's going to teach us more about being better trainers." Sam's opponent said.
Ash and the others followed the young trainers to a stage with several log seats around it. The trainers and their pokemon all sat around the stage as a young man around Ash's age stepped forward and onto the center of the stage.
Ash's eyes widened as he saw none other than Gary standing on the stage.
"Gary?" He said.
"Wait you know him?" Sam asked.
"Alright my students, today's lesson will be about an effective offense. The first thing you need to know is." Gary started before he saw Ash standing in front of him.
"Ash?" Gary said.
"Gary, you're the one running this camp?" Ash asked.
"Yeah, students go out and do some more of those training exercises I showed you yesterday. We'll get to this later." Gary said.
Most of his students left, except Sam.
Gary stepped off the stage and over to Ash.
"What are you doing at my camp?" Gary asked.
"What are you doing running a camp?" Ash asked.
"Well as you can see I've already got four gym badges." Brock said showing four gym badges. Two were a Cascade and Boulder badge, the third was shaped like a shield one side green and the other orange, and the fourth was shaped like a heart.
"You've already got four badges." Ash said.
"Yeah, how many do you have?" Gary asked.
"Well, I have two." Ash said.
"Ha , just two. You need to catch up. Anyway I figured since I'm already halfway to the pokemon league ,I should help other young trainers with some of my outstanding skills." Gary said.
Ash and Serena sweat dropped. Gary was as full of himself as always.
Lucy and Brock had never met this man before, but neither liked him so far.
"So when I came across this old campgrounds, I used some of my winnings from he KTPL to fix it up a bit and start a 4 day camp to help young trainers. Seeing as I'm going to be in the elite four soon, I need to let trainers know I'm someone who supports quality trainers all over Kanto." Gary said.
"Don't get ahead of yourself Gary, I have just as much chance of getting that spot in the elite four as you do." Ash said.
"Come on Ash, we both know I'm going to win the Kanto league." Gary said.
"You lack humility, that's not a good trait for a trainer." Lucy said.
"Hey aren't you Pike queen Lucy?" Gary asked.
"Yes." She said.
"Why are you? Oh does it matter." Gary said.
Gary walked them around the rest of the camp.
"So what sort of things have you been teaching them?" Ash asked.
"Just all the things my Grandpa taught me, plus the things I learned on my own through my years of training." Gary said.
"So Ash how do you know Gary?" Sam asked.
"You could say he's my rival." Ash said.
"Wow, you're rival." Sam said.
"So you think you're a good teacher." Serena said.
"I am the best at this. Under my guidance these trainers will become masters in no time." Gary said.
"You think so, I'll bet I'm a better teacher than you." Ash said.
"Really." Gary said as the two got in each other's faces.
"What's going on here?" Brock asked.
"Rival moment, I know the feeling." Serena said.
"How about this. I take one of your students, mentor them myself and at the end of your little camp they face one of your students you trained. Whoever's student wins is the better teacher." Ash said.
"Oh you're on." Gary said.
"Hold on, since you two will be busy with that. Would you mind if I gave a lesson on breeding to the students?" Brock asked.
"Alright, why not." Gary said.
"Awesome, Lucy could you teach it with me?" Brock asked.
"Of course." Lucy said blushing slightly.
"So who are you going to pick as your student?" Gary asked.
"Me! I'll volunteer!" Sam shouted.
"Alright, I'll mentor her." Ash said.
"I'll see you at the end of camp when I prove how much better I am." Gary said before he walked off.
"Alright we should get started." Ash said. A few minutes later Ash, Serena, and Sam were beside the lake.
"Alright let's start out with some practice." Ash said as Pikachu leapt down from his shoulder and stood in front of him.
"Awesome so my pokemon get to battle Pikachu!" Sam said.
"No, he'd destroy them. He's just going to help them develop their skills." Ash said.
"Huh?" Sam asked.
Pikachu, smashed his tail into a large rock , breaking it into several smaller rocks. He then smashed a few into he air.
"Alright now have Bulbasaur use Razor leaf on them." Ash said.
"Um alright, Bulbasaur use Razor leaf." Sam said.
"Saur." Her Bulbasaur said as he unleashed several sharp leaves on the rock. A few hit their mark ,but a few didn't.
"Alright , It still needs some work but not bad." Ash said.
"So we're not going to have a battle for practice? Gary said the best way to train your pokemon is through practice battles." Sam said.
"Well practice battles are a lot of help, but through my experience they don't cover everything." Ash said.
"He's right, focusing on each of your pokemon's individual skills is the best way of developing them." Serena said.
"So let's focus on each of them." Ash said. Pikachu slammed another rock at Bulbasaur.
"Have him use vine whip." Ash said.
"Vine whip!" Sam shouted.
"Bulb!" Her Bulbasaur shouted as he slammed his two vines into the rock. It didn't split it in half like Ash's Bulbasaur's had, but it did stop it.
"Alright nice work. Let's keep practicing." Ash said. As he and Pikachu helped Sam train, Serena let her pokemon out to continue their training.
"Nidoran use Poison sting above you then Growl." Serena said. Nidoran unleashed a barrage of stingers above her that fell back down around her before she growled at them. The sound reflected off the stingers, making light come off them and form a colorful sphere around Nidoran.
"Perfect." Serena said. She looked back over at Ash with his Pikachu and Bulbasaur , training with Sam and her Bulbasaur.
Being back at a camp with Ash brought up so many of her found memories. That was when Serena had the greatest idea for some romance with Ash. She wanted to recreate the moment they first met. She would get Ash alone and act like her leg was hurt.
Her face turned red.
"Hey Ash!" Gary shouted as he came over.
"What?" Ash asked.
"Brock said he needed you for the next part of his class." Gary said.
"Are you just saying this so I don't spend as much time training my student?" Ash said sounding suspicious.
"No, that is probably not what I'm doing." Gary said with a smile.
"You're coming with me then." Ash said as he grabbed Gary by the arm and dragged him towards the stage.
"I'm going to do it." Serena said as her face stayed red.
"Do what?" Sam asked.
"Well you see Sam, Ash and I first met at a camp when we were very young. I got lost and hurt my leg, Ash was the one to help me get back to camp. It was when I first liked him. So since we're back at a camp, I want to try and recreate that moment. It would be so romantic." Serena said.
"Really." Sam said sounding irritated.
"Alright so when he comes back I'm going to set the stage. I know you are training but would you mind giving us some privacy." Serena said.
"Oh sure." She said with a hint of anger. A few minutes later they saw Ash and his pokemon coming back.
"Alright this is it." Serena said.
Sam gave an angry expression before she had an idea.
"Alright Sam we can continue now." Ash said.
"Oh Ash you're finally back." Serena said as she prepared herself.
"Well I." Sam said as she stepped forward and tripped before face planting.
"Sam!" Ash shouted.
"Huh?" Serena said.
"Sam are you ok?" Ash asked as he knelt in front of her.
"Oh I tripped, I think I hurt my leg." Sam said.
"Let me take a look at it." Ash said. Serena felt a little frustrated, now Ash was focusing his attention on Sam.
"Alright let's take you to Brock, he's the closest person here to being a doctor." Ash said.
"Ok let me try to." Sam said as she tried to stand up before falling back to the ground.
"Oh it just hurts so much." She said.
"I guess I'll have to carry you." Ash said. He lifted up Sam in her arms, not noticing her blush as he took her to Brock.
Serena gave a disappointed look as Ash walked away.
"Alright that could have gone better. I'll just have to try again." Serena said.
A few minutes later Ash and Sam were with Brock and Lucy.
" Alright your leg looks like it should be fine. Just go easy on it." Brock said.
"Thanks." Sam said.
"Alright we should get back to training." Ash said.
"Actually Gary said they start serving dinner about now." Lucy said.
"Yeah let's head over there and get some food. " Sam said. She lead them to the mess hall.
Inside the trainers were sitting at a number of tables eating a series of easily made meals. Mac n cheese, hot dogs, and microwave pizza. The pokemon were also given generic brand of pokemon food.
They saw a line of trainers with treys as Gary and his pokemon served the trainers their food.
"Gary, you're just feeding them this stuff?" Ash asked.
"Give me a break I'm one guy." Gary said.
"This won't do, these trainers and their pokemon need a well balanced meal. I will provide it to them!" Brock almost shouted as he lifted his hand up into the air and the others except Lucy sweat dropped.
"Let me into the kitchen." Brock said as he walked back into the Kitchen with Gary.
A few moments later they were joined by Serena.
"Serena there you are. How is the practice going?" Lucy asked.
"It's going good, Ash I actually needed to show you something" Serena started before she was interrupted.
"So Ash, what's the plan for the rest of our training?" Sam asked.
"Well we still have some more skills training, by tomorrow hopefully we can get to practice battling." Ash said.
"Awesome." Sam said.
"Well Ash I." Serena started.
"We should find a table." Sam said as she lead them to a table leaving Serena irritated. Twenty minutes passed before Brock came out of the kitchen.
"Attention, your real meals are now ready!" Brock shouted. When the trainers saw Brock's food, their eyes lit up.
Sam could smell the heavenly food from where they were sitting.
"Brock's food, it smells better than anything I've ever smelled before." Sam said.
"Well that's a natural response to the first time you smell Brock's cooking." Lucy said.
Brock and Gary started serving the new food around the mess hall. After doing so Brock sat down at the table with the others.
"So how did your class go?" Serena asked Brock.
"It went great, those students now know how to properly take care of their pokemon." Brock said.
"Why did you guys need Ash anyway? Serena asked.
"Well Gary said he wanted you there and we just went with it, we were kind of confused about it too." Lucy said.
"Gary." Ash said glaring at Gary from across the hall.
"Wow, Brock your food is out of this world!" Sam almost shouted.
"How did you learn to cook anyway?" Lucy asked.
"Well when I was younger my parents would have to leave a lot and I would have to babysit all of my younger siblings. Learning to cook became important." Brock said.
After the group finished their dinner they went back outside.
"Pst, Brock. I need you to do me a favor." Serena said as she pulled him to the side.
"What's wrong?" He asked.
"I need you to make sure Ash is alone near the trees." Serena said.
"Uh sure why?" Brock asked.
"Please just get him alone near there." Serena said.
"Alright ." Brock said. Sam overheard this and quickly let out her Spearow.
"Alright Spearow here's what I need you to do." She said.
Ash , Brock, and Lucy walked outside when Brock turned to Ash.
"So Ash there was something I needed to show you over there." Brock said.
"What?" Ash said.
"Pika?" Pikachu said sounding just as confused.
"Just something." Brock said.
"Guys help!" Sam shouted.
"What's wrong?" Lucy asked.
"I let me Spearow out to get ready for training and she just flew off!" Sam shouted.
"What?" All 3 said.
"Pika?".
"Please help me find her." Sam said.
"Which way did she go?" Ash asked.
"This way follow me!" She said as the other 3 followed her. Ash and Lucy used their aura to try and find her Spearow's aura.
Meanwhile Serena was waiting by the trees.
"Alright , any moment now." Serena said. Several minutes later she gave an enraged expression.
"Brock." She said as her face turned red with rage.
"Spearow!" Sam shouted.
"Spearow!" Lucy shouted.
"Pika!" Pikachu shouted.
"Look up there!" Brock shouted as he pointed up into a tree. Sitting in one of the branches was a Spearow.
"There you are, come down." Sam said. Her Spearow came down and landed on her shoulder.
"Don't do that again." Sam said.
"Well we found her." Ash said.
"Wait a minute, there was something I had to do." Brock said. Moments later Serena walked over and smacked Brock on the back of the head.
"Ouch." Brock said .
"Serena there you are, what happened? You vanished after dinner." Ash asked.
"Oh nothing, just nothing." She said glaring at Brock.
Sam smiled and rubbed the side of Spearow's head.
"Good girl, very good girl."
After another few hours of training Sam, Gary lead them to an empty cabin.
"You guys can stay here. I'm off to the scoutmasters cabin." Gary said.
"You poor thing." Lucy said as she walked into the cabin with Brock close behind.
"You know these cabins are really only meant to have 3 people in them. I only have one roommate, so if you wanted to." Sam started.
After failing to get Ash alone all day Serena had had enough. She grabbed him by the arm and dragged him inside.
Sam sweat dropped.
"Alright, I'll see you tomorrow." Sam said.
Inside the cabin there were 3 one person beds.
"That might be tight squeeze." Ash said.
"We'll manage." Serena said. Lucy went over to her bed and looked for anything that might be wrong with it. Finally she found something.
"Oh my look at that, there's a crack in the bed frame." Lucy said.
"So?" Serena asked.
"So, the frame is weak. I mean it's meant for a kid and I'm a grown woman. I mean if I fell on it , the whole thing could just break." Lucy said as she used her foot to push into the crack. Nothing happened.
"I mean, if I fell hard." She said as she pushed harder on it. Again nothing happened.
"I mean fell hard!" She almost shouted as she delivered a powerful kick to the cracked frame. Finally the bed frame broke and collapsed.
"You see. I guess now I'll have to share a bed with Brock." Lucy said.
"Really!" Brock almost shouted as his face turned red.
"You know just because the bed frame broke that doesn't mean the mattress is." Ash started.
"I have to share a bed with Brock!" Lucy shouted.
A few minutes later Brock was laying down in his bunk already in his sleep where. Like Ash he just slept in a pair of gym shorts. He turned his head over and saw Lucy standing on the other side of the bed.
Brock tried not to make it obvious he was watching her. Even though she knew, and gave a slight smile without him noticing. Lucy removed her gloves and hidden blades before taking off her top.
She then undid the buckle on her yellow belt and allowed her pants to drop to the floor. Brock now saw Lucy in just a black and red bra and matching panties.
When she turned around Brock turned his head up towards the ceiling. She laid down beside him before pulling some covers over herself.
Meanwhile Serena had her arms wrapped around Ash as she cuddled up beside him.
She felt upset that she hadn't been able to recreate the moment they first met, but she still had another two days there. She could make it happen.
She moved her head in and kissed him.
Twenty minutes later, Lucy turned her head over and waved her hand over Brock's face to make sure he was asleep. Once she was sure she smiled and wrapped her arms around him and felt his chest with her hand.
"Please Reduka don't wake up." She said as she moved her face over his before kissing him.
The following morning after having breakfast Ash and his pokemon were up with Sam by the lake.
Pikachu smashed his tail into a large rock making several smaller ones. He then hurled several at Spearow with his tail.
"Dodge them!" Sam shouted. Spearow evaded each rock using her agility.
"Great work!" Sam shouted.
"Alright , I think we're ready to start some battling practice." Ash said.
"Really?!" Sam said excited.
"Yes." Ash said.
"Alright I want to battle your Pikachu and Charizard." Sam said with her arms raised.
"Maybe someone more your pokemon's level." Ash said.
"Right." Sam said sweat dropping.
Meanwhile Serena and her pokemon were a few yards away practicing their performance.
Charla did a summersault forward as she breathed some fire into her claws. When she came up, she slashed and danced with flaming claws coloring the air around her.
"Beautiful." Serena said.
"Char." Charla said smiling.
"Alright Nidoran now." Serena started before she heard Ash training Sam and turned to him. She sighed.
"Dam it, I will recreate that moment!" She said.
"Ni." Nidoran said nudging against Serena's leg.
"Alright, after training." Serena said.
Meanwhile Brock and Lucy were going over another lesson with several young trainers.
"So that's why Water types are generally easier to feed than Electric types." Brock said.
"Alright that's all for now." Gary said.
"Huh, but we're not done." Brock said.
"I need to go over more battling lessons." Gary said.
"But." Brock said.
"It's alright, come on Brock." Lucy said. The two walked off as Brock looked a little disappointed.
"I can't believe I didn't get to show them how to make food." Brock said.
"It's alright, you were still able to teach time a lot of good things. Things Gary won't teach them."
"That's true, thanks for your help up there Lucy. We make a good team." Brock said blushing.
"Yeah I guess we do." Lucy said blushing.
"What should we do now?" Brock asked.
"Want to see what Ash and Serena are up to?" Lucy asked.
"Sounds good.".
"Bulbasaur use Vine whip." Sam shouted.
"Bulb!" Sam's Bulbasaur shouted as he unleashed 2 vines at Ash's Bulbasaur.
"Growl into Vine whip." Ash said.
"Saur!" Ash's Bulbasaur roared as he weakened the effect of his opponent's attack. After doing so, he unleashed his own vines and easily knocked the incoming vines aside before wrapping his vines around Sam's Bulbasaur.
"Oh no." Sam said.
"Now use Tackle." Ash said.
"Saur!" Ash's Bulbasaur shouted as he pulled Sam's Bulbasaur over and smashed his head into Sam's Bulbasaur.
Sam's Bulbasaur struggled to get back on his feet.
"Geez all your pokemon are masters." Sam said.
"Just remember it's all about how you use your attacks. Each one can be used in an offensive manner. Not to say this is the only way, but in my opinion the best defense is a good offense." Ash said.
"I know, it's what I've tried to do." Sam said.
"Try one more time." Ash said.
"Alright Bulbasaur use Tackle." Sam said.
"Bulbasaur use Razor leaf." Ash said.
" Vine whip!" Sam shouted.
"Saur!" Sam's Bulbasaur shouted as whipped away each of the incoming leaves.
"Good." Ash said.
"Tackle!" Sam shouted.
"Growl into Tackle." Ash said.
"Saur!" Bulbasaur growled reducing the incoming attack's power.
"Tackle." Ash said.
"Vine whip!" Sam shouted.
"Bulba!" her Bulbasaur shouted as he wrapped wrapped his vines around Ash's Bulbasaur trying to hold him back.
"Very good. You're learning." Ash said. Moments later Ash's Bulbasaur smiled.
"Razor leaf." Ash's Bulbasaur unleashed a dozen sharp leaves that raked across Sam's Bulbasaur's body and vines. Sam's Bulbasaur let go and before Ash's Bulbasaur came forward and tackled Sam's Bulbasaur.
"Saur!" He grunted as he was knocked back.
"Bulbasaur are you ok?" Sam asked.
"Saur." He said smiling.
"You and Bulbasaur have made some good improvements in your battling." Ash said.
"Thank you." Sam said blushing a little.
"Alright, thanks for your help Bulbasaur. Pidgeotto let's work with Spearow now." Ash said.
Meanwhile Serena was with her pokemon finishing up a routine. Several poison stingers landed on Nidoran's body and 4 landed on her forehead making a horn shape. She shined with light reflecting off the stingers.
"Yes, just how I wanted it." Serena said.
"Wow that was impressive." Lucy said. Serena turned and saw Lucy standing with Brock.
"Oh hey guys, how did your class go?" Serena asked.
"It went alright, but Gary cut us short." Brock said.
"Oh I'm sorry." Serena said.
"It's ok. I see your performances have been getting better." Lucy said.
"Thanks." Serena said sounding less than completely optimistic.
"Is something wrong?" Lucy asked.
"It's just, I've been trying to get Ash alone so I can recreate the time we first met." Serena said.
"Oh right because you met at a summer camp when you hurt your leg. Oh that's so romantic." Lucy said.
"Oh so that's why you needed me to get him alone last night. Sorry." Brock said.
"Maybe we can help you." Lucy said.
"Right we can try to get Ash alone." Lucy said.
"Spearow use Leer until Fury attack." Sam said.
"Gust." Ash said Spearow tried to lower Pidgeotto's defenses but was blasted by a Gust of wind and carried back.
"Shoot." Sam said.
"A good idea, but always think about how your opponent can counter." Ash said.
"Hey guys." Lucy said.
"Oh Brock, Lucy how did your class go?" Ash asked.
"Fine, we actually came to tell you we heard that there were berries growing in the woods nearby. They would be perfect for making pokemon food flavoring and some medicine. Want to help us look?". Brock asked.
"Sam do you mind?" Ash asked.
"Alright , I guess the pokemon could use a break." Sam said. She noticed how excited Serena looked and realized what was going on.
"Not on my watch." She whispered. In the woods Ash and Brock were looking in one area with Sam and their pokemon.
"Alright Brock, I haven't seen a single berry here." Ash said.
"Pika." Pikachu said nodding in agreement.
"Strange I thought I saw some. Try over there." Brock said pointing to a specific area.
"Alright." Ash said as he and Pikachu moved over there.
Sam quickly rushed over to another area. Serena was laying on the ground waiting for Ash.
"This is it, finally. I'm so excited." She said to herself as her face turned red.
Ash was about to see her when he heard Sam.
"Hey Ash over here I found some!" Sam shouted.
"Really." Ash said as he and Pikachu went over towards her.
"What?" Serena said as she heard this. Sam lead Ash and Pikachu to a patch of Pecha berries.
"pecha berries." Sam said.
"Wow, I guess Brock and Lucy were right." Ash said. Sam gave a mischievous smile. She had found those berries on her first day at the camp. She waited for the right moment to show Ash.
Serena, Lucy , and Brock were all watching what was happening.
"I can feel that girl's aura. She's into Ash." Lucy said.
"I know that, but it's just a school girl crush. Ash would never leave me for a 13 year old." Serena said.
"Do you think she believes that." Brock said. That was when Serena realized Sam had been intentionally keeping them apart and sabotaging her plan.
Serena's face turned red with rage.
"That little brat." Serena said.
Serena tried to run over there so she could strangle her when Brock and Lucy grabbed her arms.
"Take it easy Serena, she's a 13 year old girl." Lucy said.
"I'm going to strangle her!" Serena almost shouted.
"Please just calm down." Brock said. Serena stopped and took a deep breath.
"Alright, I'm calm" She said. Lucy and Brock let her go. Ash and Sam continued training for the rest of the day. Serena tried to get Ash alone again, but despite knowing Sam's interference , Sam was still able to keep Ash away.
At the end of the say Serena was with Ash in their cabin. Ash was already asleep and Serena had her arms around his chest.
"If she thinks she can get between us." Serena started before she realized she was talking about a 13 year old girl.
"Dam it, maybe Brock and Lucy were right. I need to calm down about this. But tomorrow is the last day we're here, my last chance. I'll find a way, I know I can." She brought her face over his and kissed him.
The next morning after breakfast Ash and Sam were outside the mess hall.
"Are you ready to face Gary's student?" Ash asked.
"Oh yeah we're ready." Sam said.
"Just remember to do your best out there and have fun." Ash said.
"Thanks Ash for everything." Sam said.
"Alright, Serena's in the woods and I'll tell Ash to meet her there." Brock said.
"I'll make sure Sam doesn't interfere." Lucy said.
"Hey guys, the match is about to start." Ash said.
"Ooh the match, this should be exciting." Brock said.
"Right let's go." Lucy said.
Most of the camp had gathered around a battlefield. Ash and Sam stood on one side while Gary and a young man stood on the other. The young man looked about 14 years old with thick black hair and green eyes wearing gray pants and a red t shirt.
"Alright students you're about to see why my methods are the best." Gary said.
"Don't be nervous Sam, no matter what happens, I'm proud of how you've improved." Ash said.
"Thanks Ash, Bulbasaur and I won't let you down." Sam said.
"We'll need someone to officiate the match." Gary said.
"I can do it. Wait wasn't there something I had to do?" Brock asked.
Serena was waiting in the woods for Ash.
"Dam it Brock, I'm going to kill you." Serena said. She was about to walk out of the woods when a Rattata jumped out of the bush in front of her. This caught Serena completely off guard and made her stumble backwards. She tripped herself and fell backwards twisting her ankle before she hit the ground.
"Ouch, dam it. My ankle." She said holding her foot.
"Alright , I'll just send one of my pokemon for help." Serena said as she reached for her pokeball belt.
She felt none of her pokeballs.
"What the? Where are they?" She said before she remembered she left them back at the cabin.
"Oh no!" She shouted.
Meanwhile Sam and her opponent Brandon each took out a pokeball.
"Alright I choose you Bulbasaur!" Sam shouted as her Bulbasaur came out.
"Just as we planned." Gary said smiling.
"Go Growlithe!" Brandon shouted. The orange fire tiger came out and growled.
"Growlithe." Sam said nervously.
"First rule of battles, always choose the pokemon who has the type advantage." Gary said.
"Alright fine, we can do this. Bulbasaur use Razor Leaf." Sam said.
"Saur." Sam's Bulbasaur unleashed a barrage of leaves.
" Ember." The Growlithe opened his mouth and unleashed a burst of fire that burned all of the leaves.
"Vine whip into Tackle!" Sam shouted. Her Bulbasaur dove to the side and whipped his vines around Growlithe's legs, then pulled him towards him before bashing his head into Growlithe's stomach.
"Roar." Brandon said.
"Grow!" Growlithe roared lifting Bulbasaur off the ground and launching him back.
"Flame Wheel!" Brandon shouted. Growlithe covered himself in fire and rolled himself at Bulbasaur before he could hit the ground.
"Vine whip!" Sam shouted.
"Bulba!" Bulbasaur shouted as he hurled his vines at Growlithe. Unfortunately the fire around Growlith's body kept the vines away.
"Oh no." Sam said. Just before Bulbasaur could hit the ground he was hit with Flame wheel and knocked him back again.
"Bulbasaur!" Sam shouted.
"Don't let this get you down. Keep focused." Ash said.
"Ember." Brandon said.
"Bulbasaur use Razor leaf into Poison Powder." Sam said.
"Saur." Bulbasaur shouted as he hit the Ember with leaves, burning them all up, but stopping the Ember. He then blasted Growlithe with poison.
"Grooo." Growlithe said as the poison started to take effect.
"Roar." Brandon said.
"Use your vines to dig in." Sam said. Bulbasaur dug his vines into the ground allowing him to stay in place.
" Vine whip into Tackle!" Sam shouted. Bulbasaur used his vines to whip Growlithe across the face. With him distracted, Bulbasaur ran forward and smashed into him. Having been hit again and with the poison taking its toll, Growlithe fainted and fell over.
"Growlithe is unable to battle. The winner is Sam and Bulbasaur." Brock said.
"We did it!" Sam shouted.
"Saur!".
"We lost." Brandon said.
"He lost, but he did everything right." Gary said in disbelief.
" I guess that means my methods are better." Ash said.
"This proves nothing." Gary said turning away.
"Yes it does." Ash said as Pikachu smiled.
"Sam you and Bulbasaur did a great job out there. I'm proud of you." Ash said.
"Thanks Ash." Sam said blushing.
"Wait a minute where's Serena?" Ash asked.
"I thought she was practicing." Sam said.
"Wait Serena! Yeah she said she was practicing in the woods and wanted to see you." Brock said.
"Alright I should go and find her." Ash said.
"I'll come with you." Sam said before Lucy grabbed her by the arm.
"I don't think so." Lucy said.
Serena sat on the ground with her twisted ankle and an irritated expression on her face.
"All I wanted was to recreate one of the greatest moments of my life. Now my foot is hurt for real and I'm alone in the woods. Dam it Brock, why do you keep doing this to me." Serena said.
Moments later she heard someone approaching her. She looked up to see Ash standing over her.
"Ash!" She said.
"Serena, what happened?" Ash asked.
"Well I was uh, taking a look around when I got startled by a pokemon and twisted my ankle. Now I can't get up." Serena said.
"Huh, this seems a bit familiar." Ash said smiling.
Serena then realized that the situation was almost exactly the same as it was all those years ago. Despite everything that happened, she had successfully done it.
"I guess it does. Us at a camp, my leg hurt and you finding me in the woods." Serena said. Ash and Serena both blushed before Ash knelt down and lifted Serena up in his arms.
"Never give up until the end. I'll get you back to camp." Ash said before giving her a passionate kiss.
Later the two met back up with Brock and Lucy.
"It was so good to see you again Ash. Thank you for everything." Sam said.
"Keep working hard and you'll make it as a champion." Ash said.
"Next time we meet Ash, you're going down." Gary said.
"We'll see." Ash said.
"We should get going." Brock said.
"Is your ankle still hurt?" Lucy asked Serena.
"Yes." Serena said.
"We could probably heal it with Aura." Lucy said.
"Thanks, but no thanks." Serena said. Ash lifted her up in his arms again and carried her down the trail with Lucy and Brock beside her.
Serena continued to blush as she moved her head in and kissed him.
Author's note
Alright some of you are asking questions from reviews again. Please direct questions to PM and I will answer them.
Please leave comments detailing what you thought of the chapter ,
But to answer some questions, yes Ash will catch all the pokemon he caught in Kanto AND more.
As for other Mega pokemon I will likely add them as I need them.
Will Ash's other pokemon mega evolve. I see no reason why they shouldn't.
So until next time, please review, comment, suggest, or ask(via PM).
