Coulson and the team got back to the bus to find Skye curled up on the sofa in the lounge, fast asleep.
Ward was in the kitchen preparing their evening meal as it was his turn. May told them all to take their seats for takeoff. Ward secured the pans and went to sit down and fasten himself in. Coulson appeared and sat next to him. They felt the familiar pull as they took off and when they reached their destined altitude May told them it was safe to move around.
Ward went back to cooking. Coulson followed.
"Well?" Coulson asked, checking that they wouldn't be overheard. Everyone had gone their separate ways and were doing their own thing.
"Confirmed. Seven to eight weeks."
Coulson clapped him on the back.
"Congratulations!" he said to him. He noticed Ward didn't look too thrilled.
"What's up?" he probed.
"There are a couple of issues. Skye is going to have to be closely monitored with us living on a plane, and she's going to have to be grounded from 24 weeks."
"And?" Coulson prodded some more.
Ward hesitated and stirred the pan.
"Ward?"
Ward took a deep breath and Coulson noticed the colour drain from his face.
"Ward, what's wrong with the baby?" Coulson asked, concern growing.
"Nothing. Just its babies, not, baby."
"Are you trying to tell me you and Skye are having twins?"
"Not exactly."
"Triplets?" Coulson asked, shocked.
"We have been advised not to tell anyone until Skye is 12 weeks. There's less of a chance of miscarriage after then."
"Did the doc do anything about the sickness?"
"Gave her some medication to stop it. But she wants Skye to get fluids. Tried to put her on a drip there and then."
"And?"
"Do you see a drip?"
"Your bad habits are rubbing off on her."
"I promised the doc I would get Simmons to put her on one for the night."
Ward heard a ding and took the pan off the heat.
"Do you want to go and wake her up and call the others?" Ward asked him.
After dinner Coulson called Skye to his office.
"What's the matter AC?"
"Firstly, congratulations."
"He told you?"
"I already suspected. Stomach viruses don't usually last that long. Why do you think I let Ward take you to see the doc?"
"Has he told you...?" Skye started to ask
"About the triplets? Yes he did."
"I'm scared." Skye admitted, tears forming in her eyes.
"I know you are. It's a big step for both of you." Coulson told her, wrapping his arms around her and pulling her into a hug.
"I hope you realise that I can no longer let you out in the field." Coulson told her.
"Why?"
Coulson said nothing. He simply raised his eyebrows.
"Ok. I guess you're right. It would be too dangerous for me and if I'm there it could get someone killed."
"You are also no longer allowed to train hand to hand."
Skye opened her mouth to retaliate but Coulson held his hand up to stop her.
"Go and get Simmons to hook you up to fluids. If you refuse, I will have you off this plane faster than you think."
Skye gave Coulson a small smile and headed off to find Simmons.
"It's nice to see you're feeling better." Simmons chatted as she inserted a cannula into Skye's arm.
"It's nice to feel better." Skye told her.
"I really was starting to get worried about you."
"There's no need to be. I'm fine."
"I know, but still. That was one epic stomach bug."
Ward smiled at her from the door.
"You'll have to stay in here over night but I'm sure Ward will keep you company."
"Damn right I will!"
Simmons hung a bag of saline onto an IV stand and attached the other end to the needle in Skye's arm. She checked everything to make sure that it was working properly and left to join the others for a movie night.
"I want to go." Skye moaned.
Ward pressed a button and a screen appeared over one of the windows. On it was the film that the others were watching.
"When did that get fitted?" Skye asked amused.
"Last refit. Fury asked me what the med bay needed and I jokingly told him a screen to watch movies and ta da!"
Skye shuffled over in the bed to make enough space for Ward to climb in next to her.
"I can't believe all this is happening!" Skye said as Ward wrapped his hands around her stomach.
"I can't believe I've got to tell Tilly." Ward said while Skye laughed.
"Rather you than me."
Skye dropped into a deep sleep as the movie wore on and eventually Ward dropped off too.
A/N: To the guest who reviewed... It was going to be twins, but seen as though you asked so nicely... :p
