4 days later
Chase sat on the edge of the couch, looking as Cameron was unpacking his bag. He had wanted to do it himself but now Cameron had brought him home she had insisted on doing it.
''Do you need anything else?'' She asked then.
''no, I just want to be alone for a while. I am really tired.'' He said then and Cameron nodded and left him alone after making sure he had taken his medication and he didn't need anything else.
He sat down on the couch, grabbed the blanket that was on the end of it and laid down then, looking at all the boxes around him. He had wanted to unpack them, but he was too tired now and instead he grabbed the nearest book and started to read.
Soon after he dozed off and he woke up then as his phone was ringing and he took it from the couch beside him. He still felt so tried and crappy but he had to take his phone, as it could be important and curious he looked whom was calling him.
Chase's hand started to shake as he held the phone, his dad's number popping up on the screen and he knew that it couldn't be his dad calling.
His dad had died four months ago.
He laid the phone aside, like it was possessed and scared he looked at it. How could this happen?
Carefully he took the phone in his hand again then and finally took off the phone.
''This is Robert.'' He whispered then, scared for what was going to come.
''This is Nora Chase.'' He heard then and he sighed as it was his stepmom. He was almost relieved, relieved that it was not something strange or another symptoms that he was sick.
''I want to come over soon…there is something about your dad's will I need to show you.'' His stepmom said then and he looked around the apartment and stood up.
''I-I can't.'' He said then, not because he didn't want to see his stepmom, but because he didn't want to see her while he was so sick now.
''Robert it is really important. I am leaving to Princeton in three days.'' She said.
Chase shook his head.
''I can't.'' He just said.
''I already booked my flight.'' Nora objected on the other end of the line and Chase knew that there was no way out, but honestly, he was also so anxious to know what his dad had put on his will for him…there had to be something important.
''Three days you said…'' Chase asked then and Nora agreed.
''Can we meet up in the hospital? I can see you in the cafeteria around lunch.'' Chase said then as then maybe he could ask like he was just at work and not have to tell that he was sick.
Trying to stay awake, he finished the phone call and fell asleep on the couch, waking up again as the doorbell rang and Chase walked to the door, a little unstable but he knew it was house to come cook for him. He had insisted on doing that.
''Food.'' House said, holding up the bags and Chase let him in. He knew he should help House in the kitchen but he was too tired.
''Where are your pots and pans?'' House asked then, as he wanted to prepare dinner for Chase but the kitchen was still empty as Chase had not been ready with moving in.
''In that box.'' Robert pointed at another box and House started to unpack it and Chase felt guilty as his boss limped to the kitchen, but he was too tired and sick to help. He dozed off on the couch until House woke him up and put dinner on the dinner table.
Chase got up, struggling as he was so tired, but so happy to be home and he sat down.
House rumbled through the boxes and was making dinner, Chase trying to stay awake. He promised himself he would unpack the boxed today but as he was feeling so sick, he doubted he could do it. In two days, he would have to be in the hospital again for a checkup.
He and House had dinner and he wanted to talk with House, but he was just too tired. His bed seemed to be calling him from the living room and he excused himself.
''I am going to bed.'' Chase said then and he let House out, house promising that he would come to check on him tomorrow morning and Chase walked to the bathroom, took his medication for the night and in the mirror, he looked at his hair. It had really thinned because of the lupus and the chemo and he doubted what to do with it, but he also wanted to keep it, as it did not look to bad just yet.
With a deep sigh, he laid down in his bed.
Turning around in his own bed, he was really just so happy that he was home, although he would have to go back to the hospital in two days. But it made him feel like he was on the way to recovery now and that he would be better soon, although he knew that the disease would not go away. Curling up, tried but happy that he was home, he expected he would fall asleep soon, but then his mind kept going to his stepmom, wondering what had been in his dad's will that was so important that she would come over.
NOTE: Chase got to go home after all and although he was still feeling very sick, he was glad to be home so he could at least get better there and he is doing better, although he knew he has to live with it. His stepmom from Australia called, telling him that they have to meet up and she is going to see Chase in a few days.
Upcoming: Chase has his checkup in the hospital and wants to get back to work soon, but finds out he might have overestimated him again.
