CH 38: Showdown in the Volcano
It was early in the morning along the coast of Kanto and a ferry was moving through the water.
Onboard Ash and Serena were with Brock and Lucy at the front of the ferry staring out at the horizon.
Swimming beside the ferry were a few Seel and Dewgongs.
"It's beautiful" Serena said.
" I always loved the horizon." Lucy said.
"We should be at Cinnabar island soon. You know, since it could be a few days before our dinosaur pokemon are ready, maybe we could spend a few days there. I mean it is a vacation spot." Brock said.
"Weren't we just at one." Ash said.
"Yes, but why waste the opportunity." Brock said.
"Earl did tell us to wait there for him." Lucy said.
"We can't stay too long, I still have to get to my next showcase." Serena said.
"Don't worry, we won't let you miss it Serena." Ash said.
"Pika." Pikachu said nodding.
"Plus you could use the time in a city to do some more wedding planning." Brock said.
Serena blushed a little at the thought of that.
"That's true." She said sounding excited.
Ash and Pikachu sweat dropped, remembering how late Serena kept them up the last two nights planning the wedding. Ash hadn't been able to read any more Altair memories because he was so tired.
"Hey look." Lucy said. The others turned to see a large tropical island full of palm trees, a coastal city, an inner forest, and a large volcano in the center.
"We're here!" Brock shouted.
It took another twenty minutes for the ferry to dock, but when it did the group quickly made their way into the city. The city itself was clearly a resort city. There were many hotels, restaurants, shops, and entertainment centers.
The city itself was booming with many tourists with their pokemon beside them.
"Quite a city, though I think I liked Seafoam better." Serena said.
"We should probably find the pokemon center first, I'm not suppose to have more than two of my Kalos team with me for a gym battle." Ash said.
"Right, let's go." Lucy said.
A few minutes later the group reached the city pokemon center and went inside.
Inside the center they saw a few trainers in beach wear with their pokemon.
After dropping off his pokeballs to Nurse Joy, Ash called professor Oak.
"So professor how is my Aerodactyl doing?" Ash asked.
"He's far more friendly than I would have imagined an Aerodactyl to be, he won't even eat meat substitute like the other carnivore pokemon do, he only eats fruit and herbivore food. It's amazing." Oak said.
"The way they revived him made him that way." Ash said.
"Well he's very anxious to see you, are you ready to send back your Tyrantrum for him." Oak started before he saw his Muk jump onto Oak and crawl over his back.
"Muk!" Muk shouted.
"For heavens sake could you please take Muk with you as well." Oak said.
Ash and Pikachu sweat dropped.
"Sorry , but I can't this time." Ash said.
Oak sighed.
"Very well, just send my Tyrantrum." Oak said as Ash put Tyrantrum's pokeball in the transporter.
A few moments later it vanished and was replaced by Aerodactyl's pokeball.
Ash picked it up and held it before turning back to the phone.
"So you're on Cinnabar island, you know when I was a young student I did some research work there with my old mentor, Dr. Faraway." Oak said.
"Really?" Ash asked.
"Yes, he was a brilliant man, taught me everything I know about pokemon. Unfortunately he passed away around 22 years ago." Oak said.
"I'm sorry." Ash said.
"He lived a good life, both his daughters went on to become doctors like him." Oak said before Muk covered his face again.
"Darn it all, I'll have to call you back." Oak said as Ash and Pikachu sweat dropped.
Ash walked over to the others who had gotten some breakfast at the table.
Ash let his Aerodactyl out who saw him and the group.
"Aerooo!" Aerodactyl shouted with a very happy expression. He came forward and licked him across the face.
"It's good to see you too Aerodactyl. Why don't you sit down and have some breakfast with the other pokemon." Ash said.
Aerodactyl turned and saw the rest of the group's pokemon eating breakfast beside the table.
Aerodactyl went over beside Wartortle and Ivysaur as Ash poured some pokemon food in a bowl and put some fruit in the bowl as well.
"Aeroo!" Aerodactyl said before he started eating.
Ash sat down beside Serena as Pikachu leapt down to eat with the other pokemon.
"So Are you still going to use Wartortle in your battle today?" Serena asked.
"I talked with him earlier and decided that since he got to be in the last gym battle , that he could sit this one out. It's too early to use Aerodactyl, I still need to train him. I want to use Tauros since he hasn't gotten a chance to be in a battle yet, plus I talked with a few trainers on the ferry. Apparently Blaine has at least one pokemon that's not a fire type, so I thought for that one I'd use Ivysaur." Ash said.
"It has been a while since he's gotten to be in a gym battle. It's good your switching it up." Lucy said.
"Who will be your third pokemon?" Serena asked.
"Charizard, I haven't used him in a gym battle in over 5 years. He deserves a chance too." Ash said.
"Grauuu." Charizard growled in a confident tone.
"Grauu." Charla growled as well, excited to see him in a battle.
"So you know who you're going to use. The next question is, where is the gym?" Serena asked.
"Right we'll have to find it. Lucy didn't you visit it once?" Ash asked.
"Actually , Blaine never took me to the gym itself. I have no idea where it is." Lucy said.
"Do you think someone around here knows where it is?" Serena asked.
"I've heard of where it might be." Another voice said.
Ash and the others turned to see an older looking man wearing a tourist shirt with a tourist straw hat, and a pair of sunglasses.
He had light brown hair and and a brown mustache.
"So you're looking for the Cinnabar gym, I can help you." The man said.
"Really, you know where it is?" Ash asked.
"I do, it's a well kept secret. The gym leader only accepts bright trainers, trainers who can prove themselves keen minded." The man said.
"Keen minded?" Brock asked.
"I have a riddle for you, if you can solve it you'll be one step closer to finding the gym." The man said.
Upon hearing this, the group sweat dropped.
"The first clue is as follows, remember those who came before, and gave it all forever more." The man said before he walked off.
"What does that mean?" Serena asked.
"Maybe someone around the island will know." Ash said as he and the others got up.
Lucy noticed there was something familiar about the man and his aura.
Brock walked over to a pamphlet stand and looked for pamphlets on the island.
"Hey guys, check this out." Brock said as he showed them the pamphlet.
"Memorial park, the location of a major battle that took place in the Kanto revolution." Brock said.
"The Kanto revolution?" Serena asked.
"Remember the corrupt tyrant government of Kanto that Jake Newloin fought against?" Lucy asked Serena.
"Yes." Serena said.
"Well eventually the people of Kanto had enough of the tyranny and under the guidance of the aura guardians the Blue army under Alexander Wallace was formed. They fought and defeated the red army of the government and a new republic government was established with Wallace as the first president." Lucy said.
"Remember those who came before, and gave it all forever more. A memorial sounds about right." Ash said.
The group made their way across the island to a large grassy field on the island interior. Across the field were several dug in trenches and wooden fortifications with old cannons placed on them.
There were several tourists looking around the battlefield taking pictures.
The group also noticed a few men wearing older army uniforms. The uniforms were a dark blue color with gold color buttons up the center and growth leather straps that went across the chest from a sack on the back and a brown leather belt. Along the arms were white arrow like stripes on some , while another had silver officer Epaulettes on the shoulders.
"This is where Brigadier general Fuchie of the Blue army made his stand, despite being outnumbered nearly 3 to one by Lieutenant general Triae of the tyrant government's red army, he used the terrain to his advantage and caught the red army in a trap, surrounding them and forcing Triae to surrender." One of the park keepers said.
"This was a major turning point for the Blue army , as the loss of general Triae and his army took pressure off General Wallace's main army and allowed them to move on and liberate Saffron city." The other park keeper said.
"So you figured it out." A familiar voice said.
The group turned to see none other than the man from the pokemon center standing there.
"You." Ash said.
"You completed the first clue, now for clue two." He said as the group sweat dropped again.
"You saw where the Blue army won, and to the winner goes the spoils, and these spoils are oh so good." The man said before he walked off.
"Spoils?" Serena asked.
"What does that mean?" Brock asked.
"I have no idea." Ash said. The group went back to the city itself and began looking around.
"So what could spoils mean?" Ash asked.
That is when Pikachu smelt something. Something really good. He was almost infatuated by the sweet smell.
"Pika." He said smiling with a very interested expression.
"Pikachu, what is it?" Ash asked.
"Pika!" Pikachu said saying he smelt something heavenly.
He directed them to a small shop called Spoils of Cinnabar and had several pictures of cupcakes, pies, cakes, doughnuts , and other pastries on it.
"Oh, he must have smelled the pastries here." Brock said.
"Wait a minute, spoils of Cinnabar. You don't think." Ash started before he walked in.
Inside he saw several coolers and tables filled with delicious looking pastries and a woman behind the counter.
"Well, you're certainly fast." A familiar voice said.
Ash and the others turned to see the same man eating a glazed doughnut.
"You've gotten past clues one and two, not a simple task. Are you ready for your final hint?" He asked.
"Yes." Ash said.
"The gym can be found in the warm heart of the island. Good luck." The man said before he walked off.
The group left the shop and tried to think about what the man said.
"Warm heart of the island. I'm guessing it has to be near the center of the island." Serena said.
"Center, warm. You don't think he meant the volcano do you?" Ash asked.
"What kind of crazy person would put a gym inside a volcano"?" Brock asked.
Lucy sweat dropped.
"That's where it is." Lucy said as the others sweat dropped as well.
"Won't this be fun." Ash said.
A few minutes later , Charizard, Charla, and Aerodactyl landed on one of the volcano's ridges.
"Here we are." Ash said as he got off Aerodactyl's back and returned his pokemon to their pokeballs.
Serena and the others were just as uneasy about going into a volcano for a gym battle.
"Well, we came all the way here we may as well go inside." Lucy said as she saw what looked like an entranceway.
After walking inside they saw the rocky cave turn into a more conventional hallway.
"This could be it." Brock said.
As they reached the end of the hallway they entered a large room with a battlefield in the center of of a lava pit.
"The battlefield is over a pit of lava." Serena said sweat dropping.
Standing on the rock walkway in front of them was none other than the man who had given them all the clues.
"You." Ash said.
"Yes, you've completed all the riddles. Therefore I find you worthy." He said.
"Worthy?" Brock asked.
The man took off his had and pulled off his hair revealing it to be a wig and a fake mustache. He then took off his tourist shirt revealing a bigger red one underneath. He also took off his sunglasses revealing his eyes.
The man had a bald head top, and grey hair on the sides and back of his head.
"Hello Lucy , so good to see you again." He said.
"Blaine." Lucy said.
"You're the gym leader?" Serena asked.
"I am, I always like to test how bright they are before I battle them." Blaine said as the group sweat dropped.
"Alright, well my name is Ash Ketchum and I'm here to challenge you to a gym battle." Ash said.
"Yes, very good. I don't get enough challengers around here." Blaine said.
"I wonder why." Lucy whispered to Brock.
"Does the battle have to be in a volcano. Isn't that kind of dangerous, couldn't a pokemon fall in?" Serena asked.
"I understand your concern, but look below." Blaine said.
The group looked over the edge and found the lava was much father down than they thought. Not very far down from the edges of the battlefield was a metal walkway that covered the entire pit and let to a safely set of stairs back up to them.
"I'd never put any pokemon's safety at risk." Blaine said.
"Alright, let's get started." Ash said.
A few minutes later Ash stood on one end of the battlefield while Blaine stood on the other and one of Blaine's students stood on the side.
"The gym battle between leader Blaine and challenger Ash Ketchum is about to begin. Each trainer is allowed 3 pokemon and only the challenger may substitute." The ref said.
"I won't be holding back young man. Go Ninetales!" Blaine said.
A large gold fox like pokemon with a massive tail set and glowing red eyes came out.
"What is it?" Serena said as she opened her pokedex.
"Ninetales, the Fox Pokemon and the evolved form of Vulpix. With its nine tails and thick golden coat Ninetales is said to live a thousand years."
"Alright I choose you Tauros!" Ash shouted.
His Tauros came out and huffed as he scraped his hoof against the ground.
"Let us begin, Ninetales use Confuse ray." Blaine said.
Ninetales's eyes glowed a darker shade of red as she unleashed a ray of ghostly energy at Tauros.
"Tauros keep your eyes shut." Ash said.
Tauros did as Ash said and when he was hit with the confuse ray, he didn't see anything in blurred vision because his eyes were still closed.
"Just listen to my direction Tauros." Ash said as he used their aura connection to give Tauros direction. Because of their connection, Tauros could feel and see parts of the battlefield through Ash's senses.
"Horn attack!" Ash shouted.
Tauros sprinted right Ash Ninetales with his horns held down.
"Dodge and use Flamethrower." Blaine said. Ninetales jumped clean over Tauros and prepared to blast him with a jet of fire.
However, because of his ability to see through Ash's senses , and his quick reflexes from Ash's intense training. Tauros was easily able to stop himself and turn around.
Just before Ninetales could unleash Flamethrower, she was hit in the center of her body and hurled back.
"Alright great work Tauros!" Ash shouted.
"Pika!".
"You got it Tauros!" Serena shouted.
"Impressive to say the least. Ninetales use Quick fire." Blaine said.
Ninetales sprinted around the battlefield blasting the ground with fire as she sprinted across the battlefield.
A few moments later Ash and Tauros realized that she had surrounded him in fire.
"Psyshock!" Blaine shouted. Tauros tried to figure out where the attack was coming from, but the fire was all around him.
Moments later a bolt of psychic energy came forward through the fire and hit Tauros in the side.
"Moahh!" Tauros groaned
" We know where she is, Tauros use." Ash started.
"Psyshock!" Blaine shouted.
Another Psyshock came from another direction through the fire and hit Tauros on his other side.
"Moahh!" Tauros grunted.
"Dam." Ash said realizing Blaine's strategy.
"This isn't good, so long as that fire is up, Ninetales can keep hitting Tauros and there's nothing he can do." Brock said.
" He'll figure something out." Serena said.
"Psyshock." Blaine said.
"Tauros get down!" Ash shouted.
Tauros dropped to the ground and ducked down just in time to avoid the incoming Psychic.
"Psyshock." Blaine said.
"Dive forward close to the flame " Ash said.
Tauros did as Ash said and narrowly avoided the bolt of psychic energy.
"Too narrow and to fast. Use flamethrower!" Blaine shouted.
A jet of fire shot from the wall and engulfed Tauros.
Ash felt Tauros's pain , but realized with a continued attack like flamethrower, he knew exactly where Ninetales was.
"Tauros use Bulldoze!" Ash shouted.
Tauros raised his head and charged forward through the fire before crashing into Ninetales with the super effective ground type attack.
"Oh no Ninetales!" Blaine shouted. When Tauros came out of the other side, Ninetales landed right in front of him with swirly eyes.
"Ninetales is unable to battle." The ref said.
"Great job Tauros!" Serena shouted.
"Keep it up!" Lucy shouted.
"Ninetales return, rest well." Blaine said.
"Tauros take a breather, you're doing great." Ash said.
"So you're definitely a worthy opponent young man. But I'm not beaten yet, Go Rhydon." Blaine said as a massive Rhydon came out .
"Looks like he does have more than just fire types." Brock said.
Ash took out his next pokeball and held it up.
"I choose you Ivysaur!" Ash shouted
Ivysaur came out and stood in front of Ash.
"Saur!" Ivysaur shouted.
"Oh a grass type, that doesn't bother us. Rhydon start off with Horn Attack." Blaine said.
Rhydon lowered his horn and charged right at Ivysaur.
"Ivysaur use Vine whip into Razor leaf." Ash said.
Ivysaur launched his vines into Rhydon's horn and pulled his head lower before unleashing a furry of sharp leaves across Rhydon's body.
However, it still wasn't enough to stop Rhydon. The massive rock rhino smashed his horn into Ivysaur, hurling him back several feet.
Ivysaur landed near the edge of the battlefield.
"Fair warning, if your pokemon is knocked out of the ring, they are out of the match." Blaine said.
Ivysaur got up and gave a determined expression.
"Saur!". He shouted.
"Rhydon use Rock blast!" Blain shouted.
"Ivysaur use Razor leaf into vine whip!" Ash shouted.
"Ivy saur!" Ivysaur shouted as he unleashed a furry of leaves that cut the large incoming rocks into smaller rocks, then knocked them aside with his vines.
The rocks landed around the battlefield in an unassorted manner.
Blaine smiled at the sight of the rocks.
"Hammer arm!" He shouted.
Rhydon raised his army and smashed each of the smaller rocks at Ivysaur.
"Ivysaur look out!" Ash shouted.
"Pika!".
Ivysaur tried to avoid the incoming barrage of rocks, but there were simply too many. He was pelted across his entire body with medium sized rocks.
"Now Follow up with Horn Drill!" Blain shouted. Rhydon sprinted forward with his horn held right at Ivysaur.
"Leech seed!" Ash shouted.
Ivysaur opened his eyes and saw Rhydon charging at him.
"Saur!" Ivysaur shouted as he aimed his bud and fired a seed at Rhydon. The seed hit Rhydon and sprouted around him, sapping his energy.
Despite this, Rhydon continued charging at Ivysaur.
"He's still coming." Serena said sounding concerned.
"Double edge and aim for his legs!" Ash shouted.
Ivysaur leapt forward and slammed into Rhydon's legs. As a result, Rhydon was forced forward and tumbled across the ground.
"Gotcha." Ash said.
"Saur!" Ivysaur shouted.
Despite this, the Rhydon got up and tore the leech seed off his body before turning to Ivysaur.
"Rain rocks on him." Rhydon aimed up and unleashed a furry of large rocks into the air. Rhydon leapt up and over the rocks, before smashing the rocks down at Ivysaur with Stomp.
"Ivysaur dodge them!" Ash shouted.
"Saur!" Ivysaur shouted as he leapt from place to place, avoiding each rock.
"Ivysaur use sleep powder!" Ash shouted.
"Saur!" Ivysaur shouted as he opened his bud and unleashed a cloud of green powder at Rhydon. The powder flew through the air and filled Rhydon's nose.
"Rhy." Rhydon yawned before he fell asleep and crashed into the ground.
"Ivysaur use Solarbeam!" Ash shouted.
Ivysaur aimed his bud at the sunlight as it began to glow.
"Rhydon, wake up!" Blaine shouted.
Rhydon opened his eyes just in time to see Ivysaur unleash a massive beam of solar energy at him.
The solar beam hit Rhydon dead in the center of his chest and hurled him across the battlefield right in front of Blaine.
"Don." Rhydon said with swirly eyes.
"Rhydon is unable to battle." The ref said.
"Alright that's two." Ash said.
"Saur!" Ivysaur shouted.
"Just one more." Serena said.
"Rhydon return, you did your best. I must say young man, your skills impress me very much. But I'm afraid I've been holding back with my pokemon. My final pokemon is like a titan, an unstoppable force. Go Magmortar!" Blaine shouted.
A very large vaguely humanoid , red and yellow striped pokemon with an egg shaped body came out. It had pink lips and a dark face. It had yellow tubular arms with three small claws on each hand. Its legs were small in proportion to its body with pink thighs, red feet, and black shackles around the ankles. A large flame on its head, as well as large flames on its shoulders and tail with 4 pink spikes on its back.
"Mor." The Magmortar growled.
"A Magmortar?" Ash asked as he opened his pokedex.
"Magmortar, the blast pokemon and evolved form of Magmar. It launches fireballs that can reach temperatures over three thousand six hundred degrees from the ends of its arms and lives in volcanic craters."
"Ivysaur return, I won't set you against a fire type like that. Go Tauros!" Ash shouted.
Tauros came back out and huffed at Magmortar.
"Tauros use Bulldoze." Ash said.
Tauros lowered his head and charged at Magmortar with Bulldoze.
"Fire punch." Blaine said. Ash thought Tauros had good reflexes, but Magmortar moved like a demon and smashed his fire covered fist across Tauros's face, hurling him back.
"Fire blast." Blaine said.
The Magmortar aimed his hand right cannon at Tauros and unleashed a massive symbol shaped burst of fire.
"Tauros dodge it!" Ash shouted.
Tauros tried to move , but was too late and was engulfed by the fire.
"Tauros!" Ash shouted.
"Pika!".
When the fire extinguished, Tauros was on the ground unconscious.
"Tauros is unable." The ref said.
"Geez , that's one quick Magmortar." Lucy said.
"Tauros return. Rest up Tauros. Alright there's no way Ivysaur can take on that Magmortar. That's alright, I know who I'm going to use." Ash said as he took out his third pokeball and threw it forward.
"I choose you Charizard!" Ash shouted.
Charizard came out and roared at the Magmortar.
Blaine and his Magmortar were surprised at how big Ash's Charizard was. Neither had seen a Charizard bigger than Magmortar.
"Mor." Magmortar said sounding impressed.
Moments later Charla came out of her pokeball and stood among the group, wanting to see Charizard battle.
"Grau!" She roared trying to encourage him.
"This should be good. Magmortar use Smog." Blaine said.
Magmortar aimed his hand cannons up and let out a thick cloud of poison gas up in the air at Charizard.
"Charizard Flamethrower around you into Air slash!" Ash shouted.
Charizard flew down at Magmortar, unleashing a jet of fire around him that burned up the poison gas.
"Thunder punch!" Blaine shouted.
Magmortar prepared to smash his fists into Charizard, but the ignited poison gas burst out of his hand cannons and knocked him off balance. This allowed Charizard to easily slash his claws across Magmortar's body without being hit by Thunderpunch.
"Great job Charizard!" Ash shouted.
"Pika!".
"Grauu!" Charla roared.
"Not bad, but we've got plenty more. Magmortar use smokescreen!" Blaine shouted.
Magmortar aimed his right hand cannon at Charizard and unleashed a thick smokescreen that filled the entire battlefield.
"Charizard use your wings to clear the smoke then use Dragon pulse!" Ash shouted.
"Grauu!" Charizard roared as he used his wings to blow away the smoke.
As soon as it seemed like it was clear, Magmortar raised his other hand cannon and unleashed another smokescreen.
"Huh?" Ash said.
"Another one?" Brock said.
"Again Charizard." Ash said. Once again Charizard used his large wings to blow the smoke away, but as soon as he did Magmortar launched another smokescreen.
"Geez, he won't give up." Brock said.
Before Charizard could blow the smoke away, Magmortar leapt up and slammed his hand cannon into Charizard's back, filling him with electricity.
Charizard grunted as he was forced out of the air and into the ground.
"Grau." Charla said concerned as she saw him get slammed into the ground.
"Thunder punch!" Blaine shouted. As Charizard got up , Magmortar charged at him and tried to slam his electric filled hand cannons into Charizard.
"Grab his arms!" Ash shouted.
Just before Magmortar could slam his hand cannons into Charizard, the larger fire lizard grabbed the base of Magmortar's arms and held them in place.
Both pokemon struggled to gain leverage over the other, but were both incredibly strong physically.
"Charizard use your wings!" Ash shouted.
Charizard snarled as he pulled Magmortar's arms down and his body closer before slamming his wings across Magmortar's face.
"Dragon pulse!" Ash shouted.
With Magmortar disoriented, Charizard was able to get a clear shot and unleashed a pulse of dragon energy at very close range.
"Grauuu!" Charizard roared as he blasted Magmortar.
"Grauu!" Charla roared cheering Charizard on.
"Keep it up Charizard!" Ash shouted.
"Pika!" Pikachu shouted.
"Magmortar use Hyperbeam." Blaine said. Magmortar aimed his hand cannons forward and unleashed a large beam of energy that hit the dragon pulse and caused an explosion.
"Thunder Punch!". Blaine shouted. Before Charizard could react, Magmortar sprinted forward and smashed his hand cannons relentlessly into Charizard.
"Charizard!" Serena shouted.
"Grauu!" Charla growled , telling Charizard to hold on.
Despite being hit repeatedly by the super effective attacks, Charizard held on and looked back up as he growled.
"Now!" Ash shouted. Before Magmortar could hit Charizard again, Charizard hurled his wings forward, knocking Magmortar's arms out of the way.
"Grab him!" Ash shouted. Charizard snatched Magmortar's arms and brought his face a few inches in front of Magmortar's.
Charizard snarled and growled.
"Seismic toss!" Ash shouted.
Charizard kicked off the ground and continued to hold Magmortar's arms in place as he reached the top of the volcano and did 3 circles in the air.
"Smog!" Blaine shouted.
"Hurl him!" Ash shouted.
Instead of flying Magmortar into the ground, Charizard hurled him down as Magmortar tried to let poison gas out.
"Blast Burn!" Ash shouted.
Upon hearing this, Charla got very interested.
Charizard focused and using his rage allowed himself to use Blaze.
His tail flame turned massive and he covered himself in fire.
"Grauu." Charla growled as she blushed.
He then opened his mouth and unleashed a massive maelstrom of fire. The attack was already explosive but when it hit the gas, it exploded like a bomb.
Magmortar was hurled into the ground and embedded into the battlefield with swirly eyes.
"I don't believe it." Blaine said.
"Magmortar is unable to battle. The winner is trainer Ash Ketchum." The ref said.
"Yes , they did it!" Serena shouted.
"Grauu!" Charla roared still blushing.
Charizard landed beside Ash and smiled.
"Great work Charizard, you did Blast burn again, and this time in your normal form." Ash said.
"Pika!" Pikachu said encouraging Charizard as well.
"Grauu." Charizard growled, happy to see what he had done.
Blaine returned his Magmortar and walked over to Ash and his pokemon.
"Outstanding work, your pokemon are very impressive. Especially that Charizard." Blaine said before he took out a badge.
The badge looked like a small ember that was a dark red and a lighter red in the center.
"A Volcano badge. For those who can defeat me , you have earned this." Blaine said as he handed it to Ash.
Ash showed it to Pikachu and Charizard.
"We have badge 6, just two more guys." Ash said.
"Pika!".
"Grauu!" Charizard roared.
The rest of the group met Ash on the battlefield. Charla came over to Charizard and licked the side of his face before rubbing her head against his.
"Great job out there Ash." Lucy said.
"Looks Like Charizard has Blast Burn down." Serena said.
"For winning and completing the riddle in record time. I invite all of you to spend the rest of your time on Cinnabar island at my hotel." Blaine said.
"You have a hotel?" Brock asked.
"Yes, when I'm not battling I do enjoy some good business." Blaine said.
"Thank you." Ash said.
Later that night Ash and Serena were in their room at the hotel standing out on the balcony as they watched the stars over the ocean.
"This is a nice island." Ash said.
"It is, but I still think I liked Seafoam better. But this is still a nice hotel, it was certainly kind of Blaine to let us stay here." Serena said.
Ash looked back in the room and saw Pikachu already asleep. He also saw his bag with Altair's time flower in it. He wanted to see more of his legendary ancestor's life. Altair's skill made even Vaeron's at his prime look like nothing.
Still, he knew it would come up sooner or later and he had to do what was right.
"So, now that my gym battle is over should we get back to planning the wedding?" Ash asked.
Serena's face turned red.
"Yes, thanks for reminding me. We still have a lot of planning to do." Serena said blushing.
"Right, let's get started." Ash said smiling-sweatdropping, with his eyes closed.
Author's note
6 badges down 2 to go. After this the group will be heading to Saffron city.
It will take them several chapters to get there though and expect more chapters based on anime episodes, some on episodes you probably never saw too :)
