Tris pov
"The appointment is made. Tomorrow at 10. But now you have to tell her. She'll have to be in holding for the rest of the day." My father says as he hangs up the phone. I gather up the evidence that we brought. We'll have to put this in a safe place.
"Okay, we should go take care of that then." Tobias says.
"Okay,"my dad says,"just be careful if she's done all of those things, you don't know what she's capable of doing now. And be gentle to your brother. He won't take this well."
"Okay, dad."
I hug him before we leave.
We go back to Dauntless and assemble our team. Christina, Will, Zeke, Shauna, Uriah, Marlene, Nikki, and Ross. When we arrive at Erudite, I spot the girl from earlier. Nikki and Ross chase after her.
"She's a suspect," Tobias says,"we'll have to add onto the appointment with Jack Kang."
Ross and Nikki hold her in place as Four walks over to her. He gives her his terrifying instructor face. She doesn't even try to hide her fear. She looks to be like 14. She's young.
"What is your name?"He asks her in his deep commanding voice.
She shakes her head and cries,"Amelia said I shouldn't tell anyone my name. I can't be known! I'm not on any records!"
"I'm not going to ask you again,"he says,"what is your name?"
She cowards as he speaks and then looks up at him in fear. I almost want to go and tell him to stop being so hard on her, but I know I can't. It has to be done. I don't know if it's just maternal instincts kicking in or what? But I don't like seeing my husband like this, speaking like that to a child.
"My name is Bree Matthews."
"Bree, where is Amelia?"He asks.
"I don't know, I was looking for her when you came."
"Nikki, Ross, take her to Candor. They'll be holding her for the night. Tell them I will take care of the paper work when I get there."
"Okay, Four." They say as they take her.
"Look for Amelia and Caleb,"he commands everyone.
We head to their office first, hoping to find them their. I check Calebs office first, but he's not there. When we get to her office, it's locked.
"Stand back," Tobias says.
I take a step back and watch as he kicks the door down. The office is empty. Nothing has changed since last time. "We'll come back to this,"he says.
As we are searching other rooms down the hall, we get a call from Shauna.
"We have eyes on them. They're in the north lab."
"Okay, we're on our way,"I say and hang up.
"They're in the north lab." I say.
"Okay, let's go," he says and starts to run. I run after him, and find myself struggling to keep up. Ugh, this damn pregnancy is holding me back! I've gained so much weight lately that running is getting harder.
I find myself falling further and further behind.
Tobias glances back and a look of worry crosses his face as he stops.
"Tris, are you okay?"he asks.
"I'm fine, just go on without me, I'll meet you there." I say.
"No, I'm not leaving you."
"Listen to me Tobias,"I say firmly,"you need to get there before something bad happens. I promise, I will be there soon. But you need to get there as fast as possible."
I can see conflict in his eyes.
"Go,"I say.
He runs to me and scoops me up into his arms.
"I'm not leaving you." He says as he starts to run. He carries me as if I weigh nothing. It slows him down but only a little. When we get near the lab, he sets me down and we run to Shauna and Zeke.
We run into the room with our guns pointed at them. All the people in the room scream and drop to the ground, except Amelia and Caleb.
Caleb is sitting in a chair, his face blank as if he doesn't see any of us.
Amelia is holding a needle in her left hand.
"Drop the needle," I say firmly as I point my gun at her.
"You're too late,"she says,"it's already in action."
"What is? What have you done?"I ask.
"I'm finishing what my mother started." She said as she drops the needle and presses her hand to the screen where a hand print is.
Everyone from the room runs out and its just the four of us as Shauna and Zeke go after the people who ran out. Who knows how much they know?
Caleb stands up and that when I notice that his eyes are different. They are so light that they are almost white. His face is expressionless. A flashback of when Tobias was under the serum hits me.
"Divergents,"he says coldly.
"What did you give him!" I yell at her. My anger boils up for this woman who is putting my family in danger.
"You were so blind,"she scoffs,"so imprudent. You should have known this was going to happen. You should have seen all the signs. But no, you were too caught up in your own perfect little world. A world where you were a hero. Where you saved the day by killing a genius who was going to rid the world of its vermin."
"Divergents,"Caleb repeats as if on cue.
"What makes you think you're any better than your mom? We stopped her, we can stop you." I say.
"Tris-" Tobias starts.
"Because I've perfected every detail to what she started."
"Divergent," she says. Caleb is set into action. He charges at me. My fingers lock on my gun, but I can't shoot. I can't as I look into the face of my brother. I'm knocked to the ground, my gun sent flying.
Tobias points his gun at him, but then I hear the clicking as another is loaded. Amelia points the gun straight at me and says,"if you want her to live, you'll drop that gun."
