Chapter 15
Harry studied their opponent as he and Ginny circled the old man. He had not wanted it to come to this. Dumbledore believed in their redemption. He stood by them and he supported them. But now he stood across from them, wand raised and a determined look on his face. He wanted to go through with this. He was ready to die, and Harry was willing to grant his wish. He had that much respect for him.
Dumbledore struck first, firing off two stunners at once, the duo barely avoiding them. There's no way he's not going for the kill. He wants to test us. Harry saw the ploy for what it was, to gauge their reactions. Ginny was not amused. She fired a spell that was sickly yellow in color. Albus dodged, showing that age really was just a number, he was more agile than most 20 year olds. Harry grinned. This was the fight he had been waiting for. He quickly shot off several spells at once, aiming for where he was as well as where he thought that Albus might dodge to. He avoided them all and apparated behind them. Cursing Harry fired off three more spells while Ginny fired in the opposite direction after Albus apparated away again.
"Just as I thought, you have been training yourselves for Tom would never have allowed you to become stronger than himself." Harry frowned, he hadn't thought they were that powerful. "Don't underestimate yourselves, you could kill Tom now if you so choose to." Dumbledore appeared behind the distracted couple and fired off spells that nearly hit them had they not leapt away at the last second. "However, you both are easily distracted."
Harry snarled and fired several blasting hexes at the former Hogwarts Headmaster before apparating behind him and firing three more. Albus smiled as he calmly sidestepped all six blasting curses. "And easily angered."
Ginny's face, which once had held a sadness, had morphed into one of fierce determination to do what had to be done, and to prove to the aging wizard that they were better. She fired three well placed curses and Harry, recognizing the pattern, backed off to wait for his moment, which came as Albus became too busy dodging Ginny's curses to remember that Harry was standing behind him, and he paid for it. One disarming charm later and Albus' wand flew into Harry's outstretched hand.
Albus was confused for a moment before a tired smile came onto his face. "Alas, the game is at an end it seems. Do make it quick Harry, I simply abhor the idea of a painful death, especially at my age."
Harry said nothing. He just stared intently at the wand he now held for a moment before realization came upon him, causing his eyes to go wide. "This is the bloody fucking deathstick! The last of the hallows!"
Ginny could only gape as her husband used the wand to obliterate a nearby tree into nothing to prove the point.
"Ah yes, I wondered if you might figure it out. I have been trying to get the hallows into your hands since your fourth year my dear boy." He turned to Ginny. "And of course the resurrection stone completes the trio Mrs. Potter."
Harry frowned. "For what purpose? You don't honestly believe that these items will give you power over death do you?"
Albus chuckled. "No, but the items work best when together. The wand will be at its strongest with the other two items nearby."
Harry nodded in understanding. "So, I guess this is it then old man."
Albus nodded as the tears reappeared in Ginny's eyes. Albus smiled. "Do not cry for me my dear. Mourn the living, for death is but the next great adventure." He turned to Harry as Ginny came to stand beside her husband. "Let us finish it. And know this, the snake Nagini is not savable. I know that the pair of you have been researching it but the only way to remove a horcrux is to destroy the host. I'm sorry."
Ginny nodded. "We came to that same conclusion ourselves." Then she wrinkled her nose. "I'm going to have a word with Sirius about telling everyone the content of our letters to him."
Albus chuckled. "I found him asleep at the table and they were there. I made sure to put them up so no one else would read. Now Harry, no more stalling, it's time to finish it."
Harry nodded and raised his new wand. "It's been wonderful having you around. We may not see you in the next life, but when you see my parents, tell them that I'm sorry for I've become."
Albus smiled sadly. "My dear boy, I think that they'd more than understand considering the circumstances, but I will relay the message."
Harry nodded and took a breath. "Avada Kedavra!" And with a thump, Albus' body hit the ground and Albus Dumbledore was dead.
The world ruled by Voldemort celebrated the death of Albus Dumbledore, the leader of the underground rebellion. Harry and Ginny put up a good façade, but inside they were in turmoil. But they knew that it was for the best, but they couldn't stop themselves from feeling guilty. Even a letter from Sirius, reassuring them that Dumbledore had been sure to leave them all letters explaining things couldn't alleviate their guilt.
Sitting in the sitting room of Potter Manor after a secret meeting with the Order, the couple were brooding over their next move when Ginny spoke up. "Harry, I know things are a little dark right now-
"Ginny, dark doesn't even begin to describe the situation-
"Harry I'm pregnant."
Harry was speechless before he whooped for joy, spinning Ginny in the air before setting her on the ground. "You're serious Gin? We're going to have a baby?"
Ginny smiled and nodded. Harry grinned and kissed her soundly on the lips. "Things just got a lot brighter."
"Are you bloody serious!? Oh Harry, James would be bloody proud!" Sirius beamed at his Godson and Goddaughter in-law. "How far along is she?"
"About three months." Harry had a grin on his face.
"Have you told my dear cousin yet?"
"Yes, she told Voldemort immediately."
Sirius grimaced. "What'd he say?"
Harry sighed. "He was….about as happy as he can make himself look. I don't think he really cared though. Bella through a party for us and most of the deatheaters came though more out of fear I think." Harry grimaced. "Gin and I really embraced that darkness for a while there. I look back and I can't believe how horrible we were. Then what I did to the Dursleys, I was absolutely evil. How are we going to raise a kid with that kind of background?"
Sirius sighed. "We all make mistakes. You two had a really horrible upbringing. How you come back from that is up to the two of you. I think you can do it. Despite of bad parenting, Ron and the other Weasleys had the character and turned out great. Ginny has had such a change of heart since we first met. And as for you, the fact that you feel so much remorse for what you've done, plus you're fantastic genes that you get from James and Lily, tells me that you're going to be a great father and teach your children not to make the same mistakes as you did. You're great people and you'll make great parents for your kids."
Harry smiled, tears in his eyes. "Thanks Sirius, I really needed to hear that."
"Hey that's what Godfathers are for!"
Harry sat with his wife later that night, rubbing her belly. "What do you want to name it?"
Ginny laughed. "Harry it's only been three months. I won't know the answer to that for another two."
"Right then." Harry mumbled.
"Harry what's wrong?" Ginny frowned.
He looked her in the eyes, emerald green meeting chocolate brown. "I want to kill Voldemort before then. I want a world where we don't have to look over our shoulders forever, wondering when he'll just get tired of having us around, or when he decides that we're too much of a threat. I want to finish this, then I want to leave this place and all the horrible memories we've built here. I want a new start Gin. Sirius told me that the Order has people all over the world ready to strike and overthrow the deatheaters the very second that he's dead. For the first time in our lives Gin, the rebels outnumber the deatheaters! All we have to do is light the fire and it will spread love."
Ginny eyed Harry carefully. "What about mum? Ginny whispered quietly.
Harry winced. "I don't think she can be saved. I think she's too far gone."
Ginny let out a shaky breath and nodded. "And Amy, Draco, the Greengrasses? All the friends we've had who hate this dictatorship?"
Harry smiled sadly. "They'll lead this country into a new age Gin. But I don't think that we have a place here. Maybe our children can return here one day and claim this place. But it's not for us. We're too corrupt. Our children will be pure and they won't know the darkness as we have. Please Ginny, say that you're with me on this?"
Ginny looked at Harry thoughtfully for a few moments. "I agree. It's something I've been thinking about for a while now, I just needed you to say it."
Harry smiled. "Then let's do this love. Let's end this cycle of destruction once and for all."
I know it's a lot shorter than normal but I'm about one or two chapters away from finishing this. I'm so sorry that it's taken me so long to update but I've been very busy. My wife and I are in the process of closing on a house so that's been keeping us busy. Plus work and just a crap ton of stuff to do. The next update won't be quick but it will come that I promise you and I WILL finish this story. It's just taking me a lot longer than I originally envisioned. Anyway, please leave a review or PM me with a criticism, complement, or any questions you may have. Have a great week!
