The raindrops slid across the window in thick fat blobs, the streaks they left behind quickly covered by new raindrops. Alec could hear her screams even now, as he sat in his room by the large glass window. A nagging feeling told him that he should be beside her right now, not sulking like a child. And yet despite himself he stayed rooted to his spot by the window. The truth was that he was afraid to face her, without realizing it, he had changed her life forever.
A sigh left his lips as he continued to stare outside, he truly was a coward
Eleazer hovered over her, his back straight as he sat in a large chair at her side. After several hours of excruciating pain, she had finally stilled. Her arms and legs still twitched from time to time, but the pain seemed to have dulled considerably now. He watched as she slept for the final time in her life, and was filled with a sort of sadness.
Life truly was so incredibly fickle, a few months ago she had been looking forward to an adventure. This however, was more than what she bargained for. A pale hand fluttered to her caramel colored forehead. She was getting colder, and somehow that brought a small smile to his face. He had always thought that Carmen would be delighted to meet her. Tanya and Kate would adore her, fawning over the younger girl every chance they got. Even Garett might find it reassuring to have someone who understood what it meant to have thirst just as he did.
His large hand pushed away the hair that covered her face, slightly singed with sweat.
Yes, he could see it very clearly, her apart of his family.
When she awoke once again, Eleazer was no longer by her side. Instead she found Alec. Or at least what she hoped was him, still in the middle of her transformation, her heart beat wildly. It drummed against her chest and in her ears, the room seemed too full of color, all which seemed to blur together.
"Alec?" She croaked, her voice merely a whisper, but he had heard. His head whipped towards her, and he immiedietly came closer. He loomed over her, brown eyes barely open and lips parted. It broke his heart to see her like this. He had garnered every ounce of courage to come see her, he had secretly hoped she would be asleep. That way he could simply pretend that it was the same girl in the bed, she was just sleeping like she always did. And when she awoke he would play the piano for her, and then she would attempt to as well, a clumsy clump of notes poorly assembled would spring into the air. But he wouldn't mind, because her heart beat would calm him.
"Yes Darling?" His own voice broke, and he wondered if she could even hear. His hand moved towards her own, gently pulling it into his hand.
The next moment would change their lives forever.
For the moment his cold skin met her own, a vivid scene rippled before her eyes.
It was so hot. Uncomfortably hot. Wave after wave, heat rolled onto her face. It was then that she saw him, a familiar tuft of brown hair, and a face she knew all too well, tied to a long piece of wood.
It was Alec.
Only his skin seemed to be a golden tan, and those red eyes she had grown so accustom to, were a startling blue. But that wasn't what shocked her the most. His mouth was contorted only to release an anguished cry. She found the source of the heat, at his feat was a tremendous fire. When she looked back to his face, those deep blue eyes were staring straight into her own.
Suddenly, she was in the fire. The previous uncomfortable heat, had turned up into an unbearable one. She squirmed, attempting to leave. The fire claimed her legs first, scalding them, the stench unbearable.
Almost immiedietly she realesed his hand, a scream erupting from her lips.
"What did you do to me?!" At that Alec backed away. His heart broke in two, for he assumed the girl he loved had just admitted to despising him for turning her into a monster. For turning her into what he was.
Upon hearing the scream Eleazer rushed in, only to find the room empty, save for the girl writhing in pain on the bed.
Eleazer had always wondered what it would be like to consult with a future brother in law, on regard to his daughters marriage. He found this situation to be oddly similar. Only instead of teacups full of blood, he had always imagined tea.
Aro took a thick sip from his own cup, a gentle scowl arching onto his lips. No doubt from the fact that he would rather prefer to get his blood from something much more alive.
"What was it that you wanted to discuss Eleazer?" This seemed to be the one time Aro had allowed anyone to consult with him privately.
"I would like to return to my respective coven, if you will allow it." An eyebrow rose high on Aro's forehead as he flashed his companion a toothy grin.
"Is that all? You know you are free to leave whenever you see fit." A pregnant pause filled the room, and Aro was suddenly aware that this was not all there was to his request.
"I would also like to request for you to let Skylar come with me." At this another long awkward silence seemed to fill the room. It was only alleviated by Aro's broad grin.
"She is no use to me, honestly it is I that should be requesting you to take her away." Aro's chuckle filled the room and he took another sip of tea, his eyes glowing red. "I suppose her ability would be impressive to some however." Aro's wide toothy smile made Eleazer stand on end.
"She must be the only vampire in existence to be able to cry."
She heard a knock on the door, which is what awoke her from her final slumber. The world around her felt very sharp, as if a thin layer of plastic had been pulled away. She sat up in bed. And watched Eleazer enter the room, and suddenly the smell of vanilla flew over her. He started speaking, but she only caught half the words that flew out of his mouth. The only line she did process however was this:
"Skylar, would you like to be apart of my family?" His golden eyes were warm and earnest, and she found herself oddly taken aback by the question. But without hesitation she nodded, she wanted more than just this. If she stayed here, she would be forced to succumb to the laws of her new nature. Already she could feel her throat constricting at just the thought of feeding.
She wanted a life of compassion.
Tears flew from the corners of her eyes as she continued to nod. Eleazer's warm smile only causing more tears.
"Yes, I would like that very much."
Alec watched her leave with a heavy heart from the safety of her chambers. He was in no mood to see her off, or leave her with any parting words. Truthfully he had hoped she would stay here. Despite whatever hatred he imagined lingered in her heart, he had hoped she would have no where else to go. At Alec's request Aro had said he would allow her to stay if she wished, she would serve in the lower guard for as long as she remained. No doubt her keen mind would be of some use.
however she chose to leave the Volturi behind and start a new life.
A life that didn't include him.
He watched the yellow taxi slowly crawl away, becoming smaller and smaller until it had disapeered completely.
A/N: Hey guys! This is my first authors note so I don't really understand exactly what I'm doing. Anyway, I would really appreciate it if you guys would tell me what you think! I'm really excited about picking this story back up, the next chapter will probably be about Sky's new life in the Denali Coven, as well as maybe a hint of Alex coping with being away from the girl he loves.
Anyway please, please, please tell me what you think, I'm really eager to learn how to improve :)
