#16. Lock
Years of abuse and neglect has taught him to guard his heart well. He has built walls to lock himself away, so no one can see the vulnerability and fears behind the mask of Four the Dauntless. He hid the keys to Tobias Eaton to protect himself, to become someone different: a coolheaded intelligence worker or an intimidating instructor.
He hid them well, thinking no one would ever find him.
The lock of their apartment door clicks open.
Tobias turns to see Tris poke her head in and greet him with a smile.
"Hey, I'm back."
He smiles in return.
