Akane Tsunemori has spent the last 13 years looking for the one person she ever felt anything for, Shinya Kogami. Shinya and Akane had a difficult relationship to say the least. Tsunemori was an Inspector while Kogami was a wanted latent criminal. The thing was, to Akane, Kogami was one of the most sane and trustworthy people she has ever met, not to mention he was hot and a total badass. The only thing keeping them apart was the SYBIL system, which ran Japan's government. The thing was though, the SYBIL system was slowly loosing it's grasp on the society it claimed it was trying to protect. With the people of Japan starting to strengthen and make decisions for themselves, Akane was called on less and less for the SYBIL system couldn't decide who they needed to destroy before it got to out of hand, though Akane had a pretty good idea who was behind it. There were these whispers about a former enforcer who was fighting back against the SYBIL system and deep down, Tsunemori thought it was Shinya.

Akane used the spare time to search for him and to help out around Japan. She would visit places that's stability was quickly sinking and help out at hospitals and other places of the sort. It was at one of these said hospitals she had been asked to care for a John Doe that was in a coma, for there weren't enough nurses for them to take care of each patient as much as they should. Each nurse had about 25 patients to check in on in an hour but those kinds of things take longer then 3 receiving her list of people to check up on, Akane headed to the wing where the comatose patients resided looking up and down the list. She was surprised, to say the least, when she saw that they had given her 13 people to check up on an hour for the entire time she was there. Still she was happy to know she was taking a large load off the nurses at this hospital. She walked into the wing and checked in with the head nurses there and gathered her supplies before starting with her first patient. Her first patient was only a 15 year old male. His charts said he had been in a coma for almost 2 years and that he was an orphan. His name was Jaraiya Utakata. Akane went to work on checking his systems and making sure they were all working correctly before recording the data on her chart and moving along to the next patient.

It had been just over an hour when she reached her last patient. Her "John Doe". She read his chart as she walked towards his room, he was a male in his early 40's. The rest was virtually blank. They had no idea where he was from, no idea about a name or any living relatives. She shrugged before picking up the pace. She was already pushing the limits of her time frame. When she entered the room she went straight to the machines. She couldn't afford to lallygag. When she glanced over at the patient she gasped and her hand reached out to place a hand upon the man's cheek but it stopped part way there.

"Shinya... is that really you?" She whispered. Though she knew there was no way he would respond but at the same time he was right there. The man she had been looking for, for over a decade, was right in front of her. Inches away from her. She bit her lip before walking out of the room. "Nurse!? Nurse!"
A nurse turned around the corner and found her, "What's wrong Ma'am?"

"The man in that room over there? Do you know anything about him then what's on this chart?" Tsunemori questioned. She needed to learn why and how he ended up here.

"Only thing that I know about the John Doe is that he has been here for almost 2 years. The Doctors don't know if he'll wake up or not." The nurse answered.

"Do you know what placed him in a coma?"

"No Ma'am, why? Do you know him?" The Nurse asked.

Akane bit her lip, "No. I don't. He just reminded me of someone I use to know."

The Nurse shrugged before walking off and returning to her patients. Akane walked back to Kogami's room and finished taking his information down before pulling up a seat and sitting down. She leaned forward watching him. She didn't know what to actually say so she started with, "So, you ended up in the hosptial again, huh?"

She chuckled, "At least this time it wasn't from me shooting you. You know you really are an idiot. Then again I am the one sitting here talking to someone I know won't reply."

Akane sighed. "How did you manage to stay under the radar for this long Shinya? I probably should get back to the others. I'll be back again later."

Akane stood up and looked down at the man laying there. There was hope now that she knew where he was. All she had to do was try and make him wake up. Tsunemori sighed and walked out of the room, returning to her rounds.

~The Next Day~

Akane entered the hospital again, this time not as a volunteer but as a visitor. After filling out the required paperwork she headed straight to Kogami's room. Once she got there she sat back in the chair and remained silent for a few minutes before speaking. "So... I am going to start with telling you what happened to everyone after you left."

She closed her eyes for a second remembering everything that had happened. When she opened her eyes she started the story. " I think you already knew this but Mr. Masaoka, died and that actually caused Ginoza's Crime Coefficient to rise. He also lost his arm and has a replacement, just like Mr. Masaoka. I became the senior Inspector of Division 1 and got a new junior one that was totally by the book. With Masaoka and Kagauri's death and your disappearance, Gino became and enforcer and we got two new ones. One of them turned out to be a SYBIL creation and the other had been a holographic designer. The first case together after you left, Division 1 lost another Enforcer and SYBIL killed my grandmom. The bad guy in that case actually wasn't that bad. All he wanted to know was what color he was. He had been in an accident when he was little and was the only surviver, but even then he was so beat up the only way to save him was if they used pieces of the brains from the other victims, which caused him to have multiple Crime-Coefficents and SYBIL couldn't judge him as a single person."

"Shion actually created this joke about him. If you saw him you could see bits and pieces of me in him as well as you. She would always say things like, 'Eh! Tsunemori, how is the search for you son?' or it would be, 'Hey Akane? When did you and Ko meet anyhow? I mean your guy's kid is almost as old as you." Akane sat there and spoke to him for the next couple hours, hoping that deep down Kogami could hear her and feel her sitting beside him.

~38 days since finding Kogami~

Akane had come and visited everyday since she found Shinya laying in the hospital, in a coma. Once and a while she would bring Gino, Yayoi or Shion with to visit with him. Mostly Gino had been the first time in two weeks that she had been to see him alone and she had been running out of things to tell Kogami. So she started talking about her future. "So I recently turned 33 and you won't believe the crap I am getting from my family. 'When are you going to settle down? When will you meet a man? When do you plan on having children? When are you getting married?' I never know what to say but lately I've been wondering about my future and I guess I do have an answer for their questions. I guess there is only one person I want to marry. One person I have ever loved and that's you. You taught me what it meant to protect the ones I cared about most and how to be a good Inspector. So I guess when ever you wake up, That's gonna be the first thing I'll ask you."

She closed her eyes thinking and bit her lip deciding if this was the smartest move. She played with her hair which had been tied up with a ribbon and for once, she wished he wouldn't be able to hear her as she spoke, "Shinya Kogami, I am going to ask you to marry me."

"Yes." Akane's eyes shot open as she jumped. There was a weak cough then the voice spoke again, "I'll marry you, Akane Tsunemori."

"Shinya!? You heard that?" Akane questioned then started mumbling about how he didn't have to if he didn't want to and he chuckled.

"Come on Inspector, when have I ever said I'll do something and not mean it?" Akane was caught. She knew he had a point. She helped him sit up and handed him a glass of water as she bit her lip. After he tool a sip he placed the cup down and smiled at her. "This feels familiar."

"It feels right." She replied. His hand reached up, slowly and placed his hand on her cheek. The savored the moment for just a couple seconds before his hand slipped up into her hair, where he pulled her ribbon out of her hair. She remain silent for a moment wondering what he was doing when he grabbed her hand and started wrapping it around her ring finger on her left hand. "What are you doing?"

"Well since your the one the proposed, I didn't exactly have a ring ready so, until we can get you one. This will be my promise to you. I promise to make you the happiest woman alive and to marry you." Shinya spoke as he tied the ribbon in a bow. "Thank you, Akane, for finding me and making me the happiest man in the world."

"In the world?" Akane joked with a smirk. Ko rolled his eyes as she chuckled before standing up. "Let's get you home.
