A/N: Okay, so... when I said I just had to tweak a few things, what I really meant was I pretty much rewrote this several times.

And I'm really bad at replying to things I know, I'm trying to fix that.

If it wasn't clear before, Caroline and Elena are human and the Mikaelsons are supernatural. That gets a little more clear here.

Anyways, hope you like it

Caroline spent the rest of the day pushing her way through the sea of deceptive sharks that she would seamlessly be submerged into every time the bell rang. Thankful for the toned body and impressive height she was blessed with, she didn't carry the fear of being trampled by the brawny athletes. On the contrary, she felt like she could faint from every stare she received burning into her flesh.

Maybe they just didn't get a lot of new students...

Although, it was far more likely that they were just evil monsters disguised as really attractive teens.

The blonde had to bite her lip to refrain from screaming after several coteries made up of malicious girls decided that Caroline was of better use to them as their human ping pong ball; bouncing her off each other by simply using their shoulders and taunting her.

She had felt hands ghosting over her body as she was absorbed into the swarm of bodies pressed against her. When she turned around sharply to strike the owner of the wandering hands, she was almost certain that the owner was everyone that surrounded her. The boys looked at her like a freshly prepared meal and lust filled the eyes of more girls than she had ever imagined she would appeal to.

She had to admit, when Elena first told her about the dangers at Castlewall Academy, a part of her imagined that Elena had been exaggerating just a little.

If only.

Caroline was running through hurdles throughout the day, trying to avoid as much human contact as possible, but attending a school with approximately 2,000 students, it wasn't as easy as it seemed. Each time she felt the mob of students begin to dissipate, she would turn the corner and immediately know why.

The peasants have to clear the way for the Mikaelsons who seemed to leave a trail of flames everywhere they went. Every time she would see one heading her way, she would turn her heel in the other direction; she had had enough of their charming accents, supercilious attitudes, and the traumatic games of their school.

Although, there wasn't a single Mikaelson that was as difficult to avoid as the one she wished to associate with the least.

Whenever she would sit in her history class, trying to focus her attention on the sins of the dictators of Europe, she could feel cold cerulean blue eyes burning a hole in her back. She would always fight the urge to sneak a peek to confirm her suspicions, and every time, she would succumb to the impulse to just catch a glimpse of him.

Locking eyes with Klaus's dangerous ones, she couldn't help but be fascinated by him despite that irritating smirk that seemed to be fixed on his inviting lips. That arrogant grin of his only widened when Caroline's cheeks flushed a light pink color when their eyes would lock after she realized he had been staring.

The guy was a complete enigma to her; he didn't hold back his malignant behavior around her, but at the same time, he never approached her with a threatening stance. Even in the brief moments where no one was watching, the look in his eyes made her feel irrationally safe, but her head screamed it was just a false sense of security.

He would shoot her a feral look, but it seemed as if he was challenging her to unleash the creature within herself.

Nonetheless, she would scoff at his absurd attempts to impress her by battering those he believed were beneath him, and stalk away from him while the rest of the girls swooned.

Regardless of his lurid nature, Caroline couldn't shake her encounter with him on the first day from her mind. There wasn't an ounce within her that trusted him, but she didn't doubt he would use the truth to manipulate her.

On top of that, she really didn't have much ground to trust Elena either. Caroline had known the girl for less than 24 hours before Klaus dropped that bomb on her. The only thing that seemed to ease her mind slightly was the genuine aura that seemed to radiate from Elena, but aren't the most dangerous ones usually the ones you never saw coming?

After the final bell rang to indicate the end of the school day, Caroline released a heavy sigh and headed straight for her dorm room. The blonde slowly swung the door of her dorm open and flipped on the light to find Elena's large brown eyes right next to the light switch.

"Jesus fuck!" Caroline cursed.

"Did I scare you?" Elena asked.

"Oh, no." Caroline walked in. "My heart always beats 220 beats per minute. It's not like I thought you were a serial killer who was about to kill me with dull pencils. You know, because we attend such a great school."

"Sorry, I guess it's been so long since I've met someone nice I forget what social etiquette is." Elena smiled sheepishly.

"It's fine," Caroline assured her. "It's probably just me. I'm on edge; it's not every day you get to walk through the hallways having lethal criminals aggressively push past you."

"I'm the reason why you're upset," Elena realized. "I'm sorry! I knew it was too soon. I was too blunt-"

"Elena, what are you doing? I'm glad you didn't let me walk into a lion's den thinking it was a zoo." Caroline grinned gratefully.

Elena rushed into Caroline's arms, squeezing her tightly. "Okay, good, because I'm really glad that we're friends."

"Um... me too?" Caroline raised a brow, trying to figure out why Elena was getting so sentimental.

Elena pulled Caroline over to her bed. "Tell me all about your day."

Caroline inhaled deeply, knowing it was the moment of truth. "There's something I've been meaning to ask you... it's about the Mikaelsons."

Elena's smile faltered. "Caroline, what happened?"

"Was there an incident with you guys? Is that why you hate them so much?" Caroline inquired.

Elena paused. "Who have you been talking to?"

"No one. I just wanted to kno-"

Elena sprang up from the bed. "Don't lie to me! I made it perfectly clear why I despise the ground they walk on, so the only explanation as to why you would assume a different reason is that someone has been whispering in your ear. Tell me who it is."

"Elena, you need to calm down-"

"Rebekah? Stefan? Katherine? Klaus...?" Elena fumed. "Don't think I don't notice those stolen glances when you think no one's watching. They got to you, didn't they? He got to you."

"No, actually. And instead of antagonizing me, why don't you just answer the damn question." Caroline rose to her feet.

"Why should I?" Elena challenged. "How long have you known your little secret, Caroline? Hours, days, weeks? I give you everything you need to survive and you doubt me."

"You're the one who said not to trust you."

Elena felt her own words sting. "That was my mistake. Now you've gone running into the arms of a real monster, but don't worry, I will never abandon you, Caroline. Just like I know you would never leave my side either. Together, we'll burn this school to the ground."

Caroline did her best to contain the alarm in her countenance. By the demented look in Elena's eyes, Caroline didn't think the girl across from her was using a metaphor...

"Elena... we'd never get over the gate..."

"I know."

Caroline gulped, using all her will power to suppress the panic in her voice. "Okay- well, I'm going to grab a snack!"

"I'll come with-"

Caroline swiftly turned around. "No- no! I... I also have to talk to Collins about my grade and that'll definitely take a while."

"I can still come if you want-"

"Nope. I'm good, but thanks for the offer. Seriously." Caroline rounded on her heel and walked out the door.

Once she stepped outside, the blonde breathed a sigh of relief and headed down the hallway.

Laying on the luxurious bed, Klaus's head rested on his arm as he stared up at the white ceiling. He was still dumbfounded as to why the new blonde still hadn't succumb to any of his advances. Every other female in this establishment that he had even a flicker of an interest in practically got on all fours with an apple in their mouths at the sound of his voice even though they were British themselves.

His brother Kol laid on the bed besides his, which belonged to Stefan, who was out doing things he particularly had no interest of ever knowing with his sister. He barely heard half of Kol's glib story, but knew he was boasting about how he murdered several boys last night and conquered just as many girls.

"Nik, you're not celebrating with me," Kol complained, sitting up from his position on Stefan's bed.

"Perhaps I would be more inclined to if you lot told me you were going out," Klaus bitterly reminded him.

"Something told me you weren't in the mood to leave." Kol smirked, the memory of his brother being surrounded by women who were more than willing to satiate his needs flashed through his mind.

"Well, you know, brother, sometimes you want to hear them scream your name and... sometimes you just want to hear them scream..." Klaus let a devilish grin cross his face. He shot to his feet and adjusted the tie of his uniform in the mirror. "I'm going out for a drink. You can let yourself out."

Caroline looked over her shoulder sharply every 10 seconds, paranoid that Elena had seen right through her before. There were still far too many students in the hall for her taste, but the number had been reduced so that she didn't have to worry about people grinding on her.

She breathed in deeply, taking in a musky and masculine scent. The aroma sent a relaxing feeling down her spine as she briefly got lost in the effect.

"Hello, Caroline."

Caroline felt her breath hitch when she heard that unmistakable accent. She knew she shouldn't have let her guard down. Damn her weakness for really good cologne. "Klaus." Keeping her focus straight and her body rigid, she refused to make eye contact.

"Where are you off to with such an ambitious look on your face? Off to conquer Europe?" Klaus teased.

Caroline forced a grin. "Unfortunately, my goals aren't nearly as exciting or gruesome as Stalin's or Hitler's."

"Then where, dare I ask?"

The blonde sighed. "I've decided to speak with the principal about the lack of toilet paper in the girls bathroom." Klaus raised his brows. "What? Are you disagreeing with me?"

Klaus chuckled. "Of course not, sweetheart, it's just... Rebekah would have raised an army by now if that were an issue."

"Well, maybe she has more important things to worry about like stick her tongue down Stefan Salvatore's throat."

"Point taken," Klaus admitted, amused. "Have you given any thought as to what I said before?"

"I'm not sure what you're talking about." Caroline looked behind as if she was expecting someone to be there.

"Yes, you do," Klaus assured her and pulled on her shoulder to force her to look into his eyes. "Deep down you know that I'm right. And when you decide that you need help with your little Elena problem, my door is always open... along with other problems you may need assistance with..."

Caroline felt her cheeks burn when she heard the last part of his ambiguous offer. "As much as a girl loves hearing a guy offer to help her get rid of her roommate, I'd rather take my chances and sleep in the cafeteria."

Klaus growled when he saw her duck into the crowd of students that appeared just as they had rounded the corner. He wasn't entirely sure what it was about this girl that ignited a fire within him, but she fascinated him to no end.

Charming a girl had just come so naturally to him and with Caroline, every move he made had to be calculated. He had to study her, learn from her, and proceed with caution. She wasn't as terrified around him as she had been that day they met, but it didn't mean she found him any less repugnant.

It wasn't just her resistance to him that piqued his interest, but Caroline Forbes was a mystery herself. As an immortal hybrid, he's learned to read people like the writing were in his native viking tongue, but Caroline seemed inscrutable.

He's usually able to tell their story before they say a word to him.

Others were predictable, and Caroline... Caroline at him at the edge of his seat.

Pushing the swinging door open, Caroline stepped into the main office, smiling at the secretary who refused to acknowledge her presence as she continued to talk on the phone. Caroline rolled her eyes at the obvious personal call the secretary was taking. She tapped her foot for five minutes in front of the middle aged woman until she finally ended the call.

"Is there something I can help you with, young lady? Is it time for you to take your daily sedatives?"

"What? No." Caroline felt her blood pressure begin to rise. "Well, you see... your very luxurious bathrooms don't come with special napkin dispensers."

The secretary immediately understood Caroline's distress. "Of course, the nurse is just down this hallway." She pointed to the hall to her right. "Last door at the end."

"Thank you."

Caroline breathed a sigh of relief before a rush of excitement ran through her, as she walked down the mundane hall. She looked left and right, reading the title on each door until she came to a stop at the nurses office. She spotted a sign on the window of the door that said the nurse would be back in two hours.

You would think with a school like Castlewall Academy they would have around the clock nurses.

However, Caroline wasn't complaining at the moment since the situation was quite convenient for her plans. Digging through her thick blonde hair, she pulled out a dark gold colored bobby pin from her hair with ease.

She inserted the bobby pin into the key hole and a minute later she turned the knob, pushing the door open. Caroline flipped on the lights and locked the door behind her as she approached the dark gray file cabinet she was in search of. Once again, she shoved the bobby pin into the key hole, jerking it around until she slid the drawer open.

Caroline's fingers roamed over hundreds of manilla folders until she pulled out the one she was dreading and dying to see.

Gilbert, Elena.

She opened the folder, finding a large school picture of Elena, several notes from a variety of psychiatrists and important documents attached. She took a seat as she carefully read through it.

Caroline lifted up her head, the last line echoing in her mind.

Victims had a falling out.

Everything she needed to doubt Elena was right on these pages. A part of her didn't even know why she had bothered to check her file, not after Elena's suicidal suggestions. At least now she knows not to get into a fight with Elena, if that's even possible. The girl completely flipped out on her after she just asked a question. The question might've hit a nerve, but still.

With her eyes raking over the manilla tabs, she found her eyes searching for the last name Mikaelson, but unsurprisingly their files weren't there. That can happen when you run a school. She rolled her eyes.

Dropping Elena's folder back into its slot, her eyes were drawn to the sight that she'd dreaded seeing for years: Forbes, Caroline. For years growing up, she had always imagined what the doctors had been writing about her and here it was. Her hand hovered over the folder, seeming as if it would burn her at the touch. She wasn't entirely certain that she wanted to know, to know the disgrace she brings to her family.

At the sound of a light humming sound coming towards the office, Caroline grabbed the folder and closed the cabinet before dashing out the door.

So what did you guys think?

Btw, I'm starting to feel the rhythm of this story so I might update this one more frequently than my others (but don't hold me to that because inspiration comes and goes :P)
