The temperature in Boston was chilling; compared to the beaches of California the Bay State was an ice box. The cars and busses had ice cycles hanging down from the windshields, a couple of the students couldn't believe that cars were even allowed on the roads. Some of the Covington students have never even seen snow. Meanwhile back in California the sun was shining down on the glistening lakes. Even through two completely different time zones and environments the Covington students tend to keep up with the drama.
Brie Bella was trying to get organized. She knew that spring break was in a matter of weeks and she felt this was the perfect time to clean out any notebooks or folders. Brianna was hoping that if she cleared out the clutter that was in her book bag maybe she could clear the clutter currently going on in her mind. Her thought process as of late consisted of three things; breathing, eating for nourishment, and Randy Orton.
Ever since she saw him break down in front of her and Dolph left those scarring words on her heart she's been unable to function. The Italian knew that what Dolph said was right, as much as she didn't want to admit it. This was just stage one, the not showing up or ignoring his calls. Brie was planning on closing Randy out – but could she really be blamed? She's been through this once before, it's too hard to be close to someone who's a drug addict. She deserves better than a druggie, right?
Wrong.
Randy was more than just a friend, he was a best friend. Whether they wanted to be more than friends or not he was definitely irreplaceable. He was there to listen to you, even if you were wrong and he knew you were wrong. Randy was able to master the concept of a comforter, he could feed you what you wanted to hear while at the same time finding a solution. When Brie swallowed herself in self-pity randy would always be there to pull her up. Would you leave a friend out to dry if they needed you? Better yet would you leave your infatuation out to dry? Being addicted to drugs was like developing cancer. It's a disease, and onethat's hard to beat. The bright side is, it can be beaten. That gave Brie hope.
Meanwhile back in Boston Randy and Cody were preparing for game day. The two men stood in the locker room with their backs against the walls. For the first time in a long time Randy was holding a smile on his face, it was a big day, GAME DAY. The stakes were high; this was what held Covington between a loss and The Big Ten championship game. If they won they would be promoted to the championship game in two weeks, if they lost they would go home with nothing to show for it but some key chains.
Randy Orton strived off of his competitive spirit. Whenever he was put under pressure he played that much better. He and Cody knew the stress they were under, they were John Cena's right hand men and they needed to come out strong for this game.
"I got to say I look even sexier in a football jersey. How do the women keep their hands off of me?" Cody smirked as he glanced at himself in the mirror.
"I don't know. Ask Eve, she's got that down."
Cody turned his head and looked at his friend and let out a small chuckle while throwing his helmet at him. Before one could speak and continue the conversation Randy's phone began to go off.
"Tell your mom I said hi."
A slight eye roll came from the tatted man as he laughed at his friend, when he pulled out his phone and saw the name Brie on his display screen he began to stutter. To say he was shocked would be an understatement.
"Actually, it's not my mom… Get out!"
"No way. What kind of friend would I be if I didn't eavesdrop?"
Randy glared over to his teammate. His eyes held bullets but Cody wasn't intimidated. He stood with a dorky smirk while simultaneously taking a seat to enjoy the show. Normally the receiver wouldn't take this, he'd make sure that he was left in privacy but Randy didn't want to risk running out of time and Brie not answering to the call back.
Steadily his finger pressed against the screen and a brunette popped on his cell phone screen. Both were equally as timid as they were breathless.
"Hey Randy…are you alone?"
"No actually, I'm with Cody. What's up? I wasn't expecting your call."
The atmosphere grew quiet. Someone needed to revamp the conversation if they didn't want to sit there staring at one another.
"I wasn't really expecting to call in all honesty. I just wanted to see how you were doing since…the last time."
"You mean like a month ago? I'm better, thanks."
The chiseled gentlemen's tone was bitter but as soon as his eyes came to contact with her sorrowful response he eased up. Randy bit down on his cold bottom lip before speaking once more.
"How are you, you look great."
"I'm good…"
"Okay you lied, you blinked twice. You always do that when you lie."
"Well your eyes shot to the ground when you responded. You always do that when you lie, I didn't point that out."
The two had a stare down through the cellular device. A crooked smile couldn't help but form across Randy's lips, he missed talking to her so much. In fact this was the first time he had seen the twin since that embarrassing incident.
"I'm coming home in a few days. How about when I arrive we go get a cup of coffee, decaf for you of course."
In that moment his faint smile reflected on Brie's face. All she could respond with was a nod and her goodbyes. It was a short video call but the first in a while, and probably the most impactful.
AJ Lee was a creature of habit, she loved to follow a schedule and would fret if anyone tried to get in the way of that schedule. Today was the Friday before Spring break and what that meant was spring cleaning.
Sitting on her bed were four different piles for clothes. The first pile were all of her socks that had a match. One right sock and one left song, the way it should be. The second pile were a couple of socks that were without their pair. The third pile were shirts that needed to be thrown out. Last but not least, the fourth pile were the outfits that she hasn't worn enough.
On her dresser top sat a whiteboard that had a checklist on it. Instead of relying on her mind to remember what needs to be done or what has been done she relies on the old fashioned way, a pen and paper (or in this case a whiteboard and marker)
A knock approached AJ's door and behind it stood one Phillip Brooks. The man stood there a while, observing and waiting. Still…no answer. All Punk could do was let out a bit of a chuckle because he knew that the woman was in there, he could hear her music blasting from a couple miles away. He knocked again, still no answer. Phil then built up the initiative and pulled the door open to see AJ's head in the closet.
"Lee" The tatted man called out. The brunettes head swung back to see Phil standing there with his shoulder leaning against the door frame and his arms crossed. A small smirk came across the stressed woman's lips.
"What Punk? Can't you see I'm busy?"
"I can. What's your point?" Phil smirked as he followed up behind her. He squatted down on the ground and wrapped two arms around her small body and kissed her cheek. April loved his embrace, words couldn't describe how safe he made her feel but she didn't let him know that.
"Get off me you're smothering." Aj laughed softly while elbowing him.
"You're the second person to tell me that. I'm not smothering." Phil smiled as he pecked her lips. He took a seat on her bed and breathed in.
"Who else called you smothering?" The petite woman spoke as she stood to her feet.
"Barbie. She called me stressed out about this competition and when I was trying to comfort her was 'overwhelming'" air quotes around overwhelming. "I told her not to worry about it; I mean have you seen her? She's perfect at everything she does it's not even worth the stress."
AJ wiggled her nose a little at that. Her eyes avoided eye contact as she turned around to look in her closet. "Hmm, I don't know about that."
"Trust me, she is. That's one thing I never understood when I was dating her. How could she be good at everything?"
"What am I good at?" The petite woman smiled faintly while turning around and walking over to him. April sat down in her friend's lap, his arms wrapped around her back. They sat there for a short while.
"Mmm, you're damn good at sex." Phil had a smirk when he said that, but AJ had a scowl. Did he really just say that to her? Nothing else came to mind when he looked at her, just sex?
"What else?"
"Hmm, I don't know, sex on the beach."
Quickly her brown eyes rolled while simultaneously standing up. "Those are the same things dumb ass, can you go now I'm cleaning?"
Punk's eyes widened at that moment. What had just happened? She pulled a complete 180. This wasn't the first time he brought up how good she was at sex?
"What… why?"
"Because I'm busy."
"You just said that you-"
"Leave, please."
Quickly he got the hint.
Hey Mickey, Club can't handle me, Holla back girl, Boom Boom pow. The cheerleading classic song choices. Barbie was afraid that she was pushing the envelope with her song selection, it's my life by Bon Jovi. It was definitely something you didn't see every day. It wasn't peppy or fresh like their competitor but it was different, and they did stand out.
Only five more minutes until show time. This was it. The Covington cheerleaders were out in the backfield stretching until they were called up. The backfield was an open space where anyone was allowed, including three of Covington's Football players; Randy Orton, Cody Rhodes, and Dolph Ziggler.
"Ahh, look what we have here. You all look pretty hot in your uniforms." Smirked the receiver #74, Randy Orton.
"Randy, you idiot! You broke my count."
"The word you were looking for was thanks"
"No but Barb, come on. You've been practicing since we got here. You guys have this covered." Said #55 Cody Rhodes.
"Well sorry Cody, this is a bit more complex then catching a ball and running and running and running. We have to have rhythm, etiquette, style."
"True." Randy cut in, "Remember not to choke this time."
"Remember not to run in front of a bus."
Laughs came from both the cheerleaders and the other two football players. Everyone knew that Barbie was mostly kidding but a small part of her was serious.
Suddenly a cheerleader (Maryse) spoke up to say the one thing everyone was thinking.
Please Barbie, listen to them. You've really been a pain in the ass all trip."
"You guys are so dramatic and lazy. Don't you want this thing?"
"Not really, no." Eve Torres spoke silently.
"I heard that!"
In came the voice of reasoning. Dolph Ziggler softly pulled the girl aside to where there wasn't too much of a crowd to talk it out. Her expression was stern and serious while he was on the verge of chuckling.
"Barb, what's going on? You're pulling your hair out over something that's not that serious. This isn't even a competition, it's just a cheer off with some nobody school."
"It's just important for me okay? I like to win."
"I can tell, why?"
A bitchy chuckle came out of the blondes lips. "Why? Why does there always have to be a why. Maybe I'm just a competitive annoying freak, okay. Maybe for me there are no scarring experiences that pull out my annoying qualities I'm just that annoying naturally."
Dolph's head felt like it was spinning in a hundred different directions, he was kind of confused on what she was even saying. "What are you talking about?"
"All everybody has asked me my whole life is why are you so competitive Barbie? Why are you so blunt Barbie? Why are you so afraid to let people in Barbie? They all assume that something's happened to make me that way I just am this way, I can't explain it."
Dolph started to realize he was going into some deeper territory then just this small competition. All the jokes that him, the guys, and her friends were making just stressed her out more because what she desired even greater than winning competitions was to be understood. Like always, he tried to calm her by placing his hands on her arms as a way of comfort.
"Okay look don't worry about that. Your competitiveness is one of the things that make you great. Everyone is just playing around, we all know that you're going to do great today and lead your team…squad…crew – thing to victory. Okay?"
All Barbie could do was nod her head while she stared up at him. It took the pair a while to realize how long they stared into each other's eyes. Not until Cody Rhodes whistled anyway. The blonde cheerleader glared his way before letting out a smart remark.
"Cody, get away from your guilty pleasure now it's time for us to go compete."
The intercom went off as they introduced the Covington cheerleaders. Barbie began to walk back over to her squad to lead them in, but not without giving Dolph one of her signature smiles and a wink. Oh how they intrigued each other.
