Before I start this chapter I would like to apologize for the long time it's been since the last chapter. Especially since I left in on such a cliffhanger. Blame Exams, but schools almost out which will mean much faster updates. However, I'm going to try and wrap this story up in the next couple of chapters! I don't know how many left but no more than like 8. Anyways, enjoy the chapter!
Massachusetts General Hospital was in a very dramatic state of grief. The east waiting room on the ninth floor sat a good number of Covington students with their heads down and their hearts emotionally bleeding. How did 95% of the people on that bus come off without a scratch yet two of their students are in hospital beds fighting for their life?
John Cena and Eve Torres were the two behind closed walls. Cena was in far better condition than Eve; while he still had two broken legs and a major concussion the fellow brunette was in critical condition.
14 hours had passed, it was now 12:00 the next afternoon and only a handful of words were spoken among the team mates. Barbie was still fighting the tears that were approaching in the corners of her eyes. She couldn't lose Eve, she was not only her roommate but she was also the realest friend that she's come in contact with since her two feet stepped on Covington's campus. It wasn't until this morning that Barbie realized there was a scary possibility of losing her and the most must see college quarterback of all time.
The woman lifted her head and looked towards her right to see Cody Rhodes sitting with his hands tied together and a foot tapping rapidly. Quickly the foot pushed against the carpet as a way to release some nerves. The blonde couldn't begin to imagine what he was feeling right now. His best friend and the love of his life were in serious danger. Not to mention in the back of Cody's mind he felt it was his fault.
During a brief pause two of the football coaches walked back into the waiting room. Everyone's head turned quickly to hear any possible news. They didn't know what to say, neither of them had ever gone through something like this before, but they knew they had to do or say something.
"Well things aren't going too well but they're fighters. They'll push through. However all of us sitting around here isn't going to do anything. You all need to go back to your hotels and rest it's been a long day-"
"Well what's the news on what's happening? How bad are they?" Cody asked while flinching a bit.
"We haven't heard any more news, we just have to wait it out."
"Bullshit. You were both back there for a good hour and a half and you expect me to believe that you know nothing?!" The student's voice began to rise, frustration sept in alongside anger.
"Cody please… not now." Barbie whispered eagerly as she softly pulled on his arm trying to sit him back down.
"No! There's something they're not telling us. What are you hiding? Does my dad need to get it out of you?"
"Hasn't your mouth caused enough problems in the past 24 hours?"
"What are you talking about!?"
"You know what I'm talking about we wouldn't be here right now if it wasn't for you so just sit down and shut up!"
"What are you talking about?" A voice asked out of nowhere. All heads turned quick to see Mike Mizanin walking through the door frame with shaking hands and a strong grip.
A soft bitchy chuckle released from Cody's lips as Mike caught his attention. "It's none of your business."
"I think it is now what the hell did you do?" Mike snarled as he charged at him with full on rage. Quickly the crowd around saw this getting physical. If it wasn't the tone of the man's voice or the locked expression on his face that gave it away his hands wrapped around Cody's shirt collar did just the trick.
"Why don't you get the fuck out of my face asshole?" The brunette bitched while pushing him away. All attention was now on him which caused a sense of discomfort. After a brief silence he spoke back up. "I'll just go find out for myself what happened." Then the man was off down the hallway without a friend in the world.
Mike watched as the man escaped down the hallway. His view became blurred as someone rammed into his back, it was the head coach with a not so happy expression on his face.
"Now look Michael you're welcome to stay but don't you start any confrontations and I'll make sure you're out of this hospital and I know you didn't rush all the way here by plane from California to just sit on the curb."
The grown man stared down the student. The Miz had no response to that but a blank lifeless expression. Coach McMahon could see the fright and worry in the young man's eyes which caused a released sigh from his cold lips while taking the kid aside from the group for a discussion.
As the two walked off to talk alone they were watched by the remaining people in the lobby. If their emotions weren't already torn apart they were fractured after that encounter.
"How'd Mike get here so fast, who told him?" Randy asked softly.
"I did." A strong French voice said while staring down at the floor. Maryse took a deep breath and put her eyes to rest. Although the day had just begun she was ready for it to end already.
Phil Brooks was throwing whatever he could into a few bags as fast as possible. Little did he know that when he woke up this morning Maria would have called him with two tickets to Boston. She had dipped into her bank account to purchase the tickets. Last minute flights across the country were pricy but in this case it was worth it. The two most important people in her life were on stretchers fighting. There was no way she could miss out on their possible final moments.
That phone call was the first conversation the two had had after months upon months. It was definitely strange, it was even stranger that these two were about to get on a 6 hour flight together when just yesterday Maria supposedly hated his guts.
AJ Sat on Phillips bed and watched him, hating herself because of the selfish thoughts she was facing. Was it horrible that as two human beings laid on their possible death bed all she was worried about was how much Phil was rushing to see the woman he supposedly didn't love anymore? Not to mention he was traveling with the girl who was in love with him during that time. Sounded like a pretty crazy love triangle weekend to her.
April's whole body was begging her to tell the young man not to go but some part of her was holding back. This attachment that she had towards the man was becoming more and more out of hand by the second.
Punk grabbed his wallet and a few other personal belongings off of the dresser before wiping his hands on his jeans. He took a double look around to make sure he got all of his stuff, it was all clear.
"Alright Lee, I think I'm all ready to go. Maria will be here in a bit so if you want to-"
"Leave?" AJ questioned with a raised eyebrow.
Phil's head raised at her tone. A soft shrug and nod approached on his arms and head as he picked up his bag. April couldn't respond before a certain redhead appeared at the door.
Maria's stance was awkward. It was the first time she'd seen Phillip face to face in a few months. Their eyes connected and their bodies tensioned up. It took a while until the two were comfortable enough to let out a smile. Maria hadn't thought inviting him through, although that didn't mean she regretted it.
"You ready?" The woman asked in a hush tone. All the tatted man did to respond was nod and give a kiss on the cheek goodbye to Lee. He picked up his bags and walked, it was amazing what could change in just an hour.
Coach McMahon and Mike were now standing alone in an isolated hallway. Every once in a while one or two doctors would walk by but it was important for Vince to keep this news between the two of them because he didn't want anything to get out just to cause anxiety among the team. Luckily he knew that the relationship between a team and a couple were two different things and he wanted to tell Mike this man to man.
"Look…the doctors are doing their best and in this moment that's all that really matters."
"There best to do what exactly? How bad is it?" The words slipped off his tongue like venom. Eagerly he wanted the answer but at the same time he was afraid of what his heart could take.
"Well due to how and where we were hit Eve had a greater impact than John did. He's woken up and so they put them down to go through surgery in order to fix his broken legs. They however don't know if they'll be able to do that with Eve."
"So…what are you telling me here? That she's not going to wake up?"
"It's a strong possibility that she won't…"
If he believed that it was a hard thing to say he couldn't even imagine how hard it was for Mike of tto hear. The young man's body felt like it was about to shut down; his bones were tightened, his palms were sweaty and his heart was running three times as fast as it should be. Mike even asked for some reassurance, as if the man was lying to him. But he wasn't, this was happening, this was his new reality.
A sea of emotions fled over him within the time span of 30 seconds. The first one was the feeling of being surprised. This wasn't supposed to happen to people in college? All we were supposed to do was get drunk, party, study, graduate and then go get a job and start a family. Death didn't just happen. Especially not to young people. The second feeling was anger. How could Eve do this? Why did she have to go on the trip? He asked her not to. If she didn't go on the trip this wouldn't have happened. The third feeling that sept in the hardest was depression. The thought of even losing her was unexplainable.
wasn't aware on what to say or do, he wasn't much of the comforter. He gave a quick pat on the shoulder with a sympathetic apology and walked. Mike slid his back down the wall and stayed on the ground for what seemed like minutes but what was really hours.
Behind closed doors was what was worse. The thought was that at least one was going to fully recover. Little did they know that John Cena was going to have a stroke during surgery leaving him paralyzed from the waist down. No more Superstar quarterback for Covington.
A shorter chapter than usual. I wrote this all in a day and it was hard to spread out the two main focuses of the story into a longer chapter! But still a lot had gone on! So please tell me your thoughts! The next chapter will be up much much much sooner!
