A lot of the students took a stop at the local bistro down the street to unwind and distress. The past two days were spent staring at hospital walls and depressing blue carpet. It was nice to bring some life into their lives for a moment.
Barbie just stared at her basket of half eaten fries and then back up at the man sitting in front of her. Dolph Ziggler sat there so, what's the word? Collected… How did he do it? Barbie wondered that to herself. He wasn't any less emotionally broken than anyone else yet he just stood there waiting for people to take needed comfort in him.
The blonde then looked at her left hand. It was in the middle of the table holding onto the other blondes. A great sense of appreciation flew over her whenever she saw him. His piercing blue eyes, soft pink lips, and golden blonde locks brought her so much joy it was honestly indescribable.
You know someone is special when just the smallest physical attribute brings you all the joy in the world. Her mouth began to move as words flew out timidly.
"I keep waiting for the phone to ring. Some sort of good news to come and calm us all down, I'm starting to believe that's not going to happen."
A faint lifeless chuckle came from the man's lips alongside a nod. "Yeah… but don't give up. It'll happen, I promise." Dolph held onto her hand and placed a soft kiss on the roof of it. Barbie's blue eyes watched every step of the way.
"You're the guy…"
"I'm the, what?"
"The guy… every girl friend I've had have these guys that they speak about that just make their stomach twirl and their heart smile. I was always upset because I never had that guy. You're that guy."
A smile pursed across Dolph's lips. With a simple nod he said, "I'm your guy."
Barbie repositioned herself so that she had the perfect angle to lean on his stern shoulders. They sat there for a while in a moment of comfort and silence. As her blue eyes skimmed she came across a young man sitting outside just staring at the highway ahead lifelessly; it was Cody.
The blonde pat her friends shoulder as she got up. Not much was said but he knew what she was doing.
Barbie walked outside to the chilling air and wrapped herself in her fur coat. It was miserable outside. Almost as miserable as the young man sitting on the curb with his head in his hands. Barbie waked over in her two inch heels and sat on the sidewalk next to him. She wrapped her arms around his body and cuddled with him as a way of comfort.
For minutes they sat in silence and the only noise surrounding them was the sound of the tires on the pavement as cars flew by. But then after a while a voice cracked into the stillness.
"My best friend and my-my" Cody's voice failed him as he tried to collect his thoughts "Man I don't even know what to call her. I want to say girlfriend but we're not together but she means more to me than just an ex, I- I don't know."
"Just label her as Eve…What were you trying to say?"
"Right… My best friend and my Eve… there in this place because of me. Me, I did this!"
"Cody, we all say and do stupid things. It was just a slip up on the road it could've happened at any time to anyone."
He removed his eyes off the road and stared at her like a helpless puppy. "What if I can never apologize to her?"
"Well good news is you're not going to have to worry about that. She's waking up, I promise."
"And John. What happens from here? My best friend can't even walk, his life is ruined. I'm supposed to forget that?
"Good thing our legs aren't what makes our lives worth living. He has you, us…"
Barbie placed a soft kiss on the top of his head. Those words didn't solve everything and make it all okay but it definitely did help smooth the pain.
Hospital Hallways. There are millions of them and yet they are all so similar. They're all long and identical. Walking down one will cause you to feel as if you're in the twilight zone. Every inch you move forward is every inch the hallway moves back, and which each step you're not actually making any progress.
That's how Mike was feeling, both within the hallway physically and within his mind emotionally. Every positive thought was turned away by reality. As his lifeless eyes stared down the hallway a figure came into his vision. It was Phillip Brooks. Even throughout their past the last couple of months and the drama filled arguments, seeing each other brought a sense of comfort. This comfort that Mike hasn't been able to feel in a while when he needed it the most.
The men's steps grew faster and as they approached one another their bodies connected in an intense hug. A hug can do so much when you're hurting, this was the first hug that Mike had experienced since meeting this cold city. They stood there for around half a minute before Phil began to bring words in.
"Are you okay, man?"
"No… I'm not but I'm managing…" He began to move away and pat his friends shoulder. "Thanks for coming."
"Are you kidding? I had too..."
"I heard a girl on the phone… Did your girlfriend come?"
"No, that was Maria. Plus, she's not my girlfriend…"
"She's your something… there's no way she's just a friend."
Punk licked his lips as he stared down at his shoes, he looked back up at his friend and shrugged his shoulders. "And what if I'm not interested in the whole relationship thing?"
"Well then you're fucked because you've fallen." A faint laugh came from Mike's lips.
The tatted man tried to find a way to get off the subject. He was aware that Mike was using this as a distraction to get his mind off current events but he didn't enjoy being the target.
"Are you hungry? Lunch is on me…"
"That'd be awesome. Thank you."
"Anything for you Mike."
Brie Bella sat outside in one of the gardens surrounding the north campus. She had a few books stacked up to her right; one for every exam she was taking. With all the chaos going on around her it was still exam week which caused for heavy studying and a lot of concentration.
The garden was her favorite spot on campus. A lot of the students didn't take advantage of it, most of them didn't even know about it. It was an isolated area but a peaceful one. Nature brought Brianna to her happy place, it brought her mind to ease.
The peaceful quietness was what she needed. And then, it was gone. A loud repetitive vibration came across the wooden bench, it was her cell phone. A sigh came across her lips, she grabbed on to it and read the contact name. Unknown it read. Like all unknown numbers the twin put it down and got back to her reading. 30 seconds passed and it began to vibrate again. With a raised eyebrow and a widespread curiosity she picked up the phone once again and read the contact name, unknown. Again?
Brianna put her book down and pressed the green button on her phone, then she heard a voice. A very familiar voice.
"Brie, its Randy. Don't hang up."
"…Why are you calling from an unknown number?"
"I'm on one of the pay phones in town. I just, I wanted to talk to you."
"About what?"
"Us."
The woman began to grow tense. Us. That's never a good word. She began to sit back in her bench to try to relax and asked him timidly what us was.
"Look I thought I knew life was short last year but I guess this just re-reminded me. I think you and I both know that I like you, and I think we both know that down low you like me to. So when I get back to town we're going to try us and if you're not up for that I'm going to fight for it."
"…And why would you do that?"
"Because I want you."
"And if I don't want you?"
"….I don't believe that's true."
They both grew quiet until there was a final click. Randy hung up the phone. Brie knew from that moment forward that this story was not finished.
Maria didn't know what to expect when she walked into Eve Torres's hospital room. She didn't know what she was going to see or what she was going to feel. Not knowing scared her and the anticipation scared her even more.
When the Latina walked into the lifeless room on a hospital bed laid her ex-best friend. She was broken up and battered, the tears flew from the redheads eyes like bullets and her hands began to shake rapidly. Slowly she tip toed her way to the bed to grab a closer look. Maria reached out her right hand and stroked Eve's cheek. Instantly the flowing tears grew heavier and the sniffling increased.
Maria sat down in one of the chairs around the bed and watched her breathe. Every breath she took felt like a gift. After thirty minutes the woman still sat there, watching and listening. The only difference after those thirty minutes was now she gained the ability to come to words.
"Eve, you're just. You're going to have to wake up." The amount of sniffling caused Maria to postpone each word, she could barely catch her breath. "I need you to wake up, I need you."
A couple minutes passed for the redhead to recover before she spoke again.
"I'm so sorry Eve. I'm so so so sorry. You were the perfect friend and I took advantage of that. Now where am I? None of my "friends" will talk to me. I can't even look John in the eye because he'll know something is up."
Another breath, another grasp of air, and another pause between words. This speech was planned out but it was harder in real life than in her head. Her hand reached out to hold onto the brunettes, the hand was shaking uncontrollably.
"Eve, I was raped… And it hurt so bad… And I don't know what to do. That is why I need you. I don't just want you back I need you back because if you don't wake up then I won't have anyone to go to. You were always the one that helped me, you were always the one that made it better. We were supposed to travel the world together after college, you were supposed to be my brides mate. Please just open up your beautiful green eyes, please."
The woman sat there for a minute watching, waiting. She imagined that her words would just bring her up from this coma. A heavy sigh came from her cold lips as the disappointment set in. Maria laid her head down on her friends shoulder and wept.
"You came…"
Suddenly another voice came in. This voice caught Maria completely off guard. As she rose her head she saw helpless green eyes staring at her. She stared at the helpless smile Eve wore and started to cry even more, but this time this cry was due to her overjoy.
Maria kissed the top of her head still with shaking hands and smiled uncontrollably big.
"Of course I came…"
And that chapter is a wrap. I'm actually very confident in this piece and I hope you all really enjoy it. I take your comments seriously and I try to reflect them into the story. I hope you can tell!
