Barbie was throwing a small get together later in the evening. It was kind of a celebratory event to acknowledge all that these students have been through this year. There has been a lot of drama and a lot of heartbreak but this group was closer now than ever before.
This blonde bombshell was a bit obsessed with hosting parties, so much of her joy comes from the organization and planning that goes into it. In her apartment there was enough snacks to feed an entire army and she still worried that there wasn't enough variety.
This wasn't going to be the kind of event where the music would be blasting through the roof and everyone would be leaving wasted. Her plan for the evening was for it to be classy and just a time for a bunch of good friends to enjoy each other's company. The only person that Barbie suspected to leave drunk was maybe Miz, that was kind of his thing.
Barbie was in the middle of a missing salsa bowl controversy when Maryse approached her door.
"Knock knock." The blonde smiled as she arrived holding a bottle of champagne.
With hands on her hips Barbie sighed heavily. "You're early, like three hours early." The woman wasn't aware of how rude she sounded, she was just a very orderly person and Maryse arriving early didn't go along with her plans.
"I know but I thought I would help you set stuff up."
"Why would you do that to me?"
"Barb, stay calm. Now where do you want me to put this? It's still your vision I'm just working around it."
Defeated, Barbara shrugged it off and pointed towards the counters. "I guess over there with the other wine bottles."
"Deal." With very little effort Maryse placed the bottle down on the counter and turned back to her friend, it was clear she came over to talk about something. "So are you going to tell me about your new boy?"
Immediately the all American girl froze in place, that was the one thing that you could bring up to stop her from setting up. A smile spread widely across her features – just thinking about him made her giddy.
"What do you want to know?"
"Peppermint mocha for you, overpriced black coffee for me." AJ Lee smiled faintly as she handed Brie her girly drink. The woman took her seat and glanced over at her best friend.
"You know you can get a black coffee at home right? The point of this place is to get the special drinks that are more original."
"Why would I buy something I don't want? I want a regular coffee, not your feminine sugar filled drinks."
Both women let out a small laugh. Brianna took a sip of her drink, and in that small moment of silence April quickly spoke up.
"So that game yesterday, it was interesting huh?"
Brie softly rolled her eyes but couldn't help but smile. "Yeah, interesting…"
"Please tell me you've talked to Randy since then."
"I haven't."
"What's wrong with you?"
"Wow, harsh."
"I have to be, you give me no other choice."
It was clear that AJ meant business as she placed her Starbucks cup down on the table and raised her eyebrow up high. Brie's constant running from her problems was beginning to get underneath her skin. The Latina went to open up her mouth to respond but was abruptly interrupted. Dolph Ziggler and Mike Mizanin joined in on the conversation.
"Hi ladies, what's up Lee?"
"Just talking about the game. Don't you guys think that Brie should get off her high horse and talk to Randy?"
The woman's eyes widened at her friends comment, she was baffled by how carless she was with the topic. This was not anything she'd like to talk about with neither Dolph nor Mike.
Their responses were completely different. Dolph responded with an "Oh yeah, definitely." While The Miz pointed out that he couldn't care less about the topic. This left AJ with a soft eye roll.
The twin jumped around the subject, "Alright, well while we're on the topic of relationships don't you guys think that AJ should talk to Phillip sooner or later?"
"Already ahead of you on that one. While you were sucking faces with a certain handsome football player Phil and I decided to be more of a thing."
All three jaws dropped after that comment. A small smirk came across Mike's face, a sense of relief came over him. It was about time his friend got the girl.
Dolph raised his eyebrow with a soft amused smile, "So I was right about you two. You guys are boyfriend and girlfriend now?"
"No, we're not boyfriend and girlfriend. We are dating now, there is a difference." The brunette pointed out with a soft smile, it was basically the same thing.
A smirk spread across the blondes face. Although April acted very nonchalant about the topic he knew her well enough to know that on the inside she was screaming with joy. Dolph then brought the conversation back on track, "no but seriously Brie. No matter what your answer is please call up this boy or something. You can't just leave him hanging."
The brunette looked up at the three faces staring down at her and let out a soft giggle. Brie stood to her feet with her Starbucks cup in hand and walked over towards the exit. Maybe it was time to press on the gas paddle and take control.
Everyone has something that just brings them to their breaking point. After twenty-two years Eve Torres believes that she found what will bring her to that point, Advanced Calculus.
The brunette had her head crammed into a textbook that was inches thick. As time went on the frustration she was carrying began to grow more and more evident; her under eyes were getting darker and her grip was growing tighter.
Eve's heavy concentration put up a wall to all of her outside surroundings. So much so that she didn't even notice when someone joined her table. The man's hazel eyes stared at her and a playful smirk begin to crease onto his face. Eve didn't even need to look up to know who was in her presence.
"What do you want Cody?" She asked with her eyes still glued to her pages.
"I could've sworn that book had nudes in it based on how hard you've been staring at it."
"Maybe it does, what's it to you?"
"I didn't know you held onto all of my photos."
Immediately Eve shot him a dirty look, Cody reacted with a soft chuckle. Mission successful.
"What do you want Rhodes? I've got exams tomorrow and I'm in the middle of a very heavy study session."
The wide receiver observed the book that was placed in hands for a few seconds before responding. "Advanced Calc huh, who is your professor?"
"Professor Campbell."
Cody smiled faintly and nodded before continuing, "Thought so, just wanted to make sure. I've had him twice. He's one of my dad's favorite professors, they can relate to each other because they're both dicks. His exam will have probably have five questions, seven maximum. He's a creature of habit and only uses odd numbers. Can I see that pen?"
Baffled by all this information she nodded and handed him the pen, closely Eve observed. Cody dragged the red pen onto the paper to construct five different circles.
"These are the formulas you have to remember. You'll get one question about each one, as long as you know how to do these your golden."
The brunette glanced up to her ex-boyfriend and couldn't help but smile faintly. "Thank you…"
His hazel eyes watched her green ones, he gently nodded in response "No problem."
"No I'm serious. I was lost, like 100% lost. This just helped more than you know."
"Well then I'm glad I could help somewhat but really it's no big deal, knowing you you'll pass with flying colors." There was a brief silence for a moment, but Cody broke his own silence. "Why are you even taking advanced calculous? The stuff in your book isn't what you want to do for the rest of your life. You always told me that you wanted to travel with Maria as a travel agent before settling down into a career dealing with social service, not advanced math."
"I need a good back up plan. Traveling around the world costs money and I don't know if I'll be able to financially support myself."
"That sounds like a cop out."
"It sound like a plan to me. I'll make it work, trust me. I'll just make it work my way."
Randy Orton had a lot of hobbies due to the fact that he hated having free time. When you have free time your mind begins to wonder and that could be dangerous. Thinking to yourself too much can become dangerous because it can make you question a lot of things. It didn't matter if it was throwing a ball down a dirty field or repairing broken items.
Randy was fiddling with this broken stereo for about 2 hours, the concentration that was put into this stereo helped keep his mind off of Brie (for the most part). His mind was focused on different colored wires until a knock approached his door. He took a moment to tie together his chords before walking over to the door, when he opened the door his expression stayed flat.
"Hi, we should talk."
Randy looked up and down the woman standing in front of him and couldn't help but agree. Brianna walked through the door and placed her bag down on the computer table. The Latina greeted her friend and there was no response given, quickly she began to grow timid.
A couple seconds passed by and it was still quiet how weird. She couldn't help but assume that he would've at least said something by now. The fact that he was still yet to say anything made her more uncomfortable, cue the rambling.
"I just wanted to talk to you about the game."
"Go ahead."
"Alright so you kissed me." Again Brie took a momentary pause and waited for him to respond, nothing. "And you said you loved me." Still hopeful that he would intervene the woman waited for a response, nothing.
"Are you going to say anything?"
"I'm just hearing you out. You already know exactly how I feel, but what about you? How do you honestly feel about me and this situation?"
A heavy sigh released from the brunette's lips, she was trapped. It was now time for an answer. Brianna could feel her palms begin to grow sweaty due to fear, but what was she afraid of? She didn't even know.
"I'm just afraid because I don't want to get hurt. I know you're not planning on hurting me and neither of us are intending for this to end badly but it really really can. Starting a relationship after being friends is hard enough but with your past it gets even more complicated…"
The tatted man closed his eyes, he was awaiting the bullet that was getting ready to come. Randy wanted the truth and he was getting it but it didn't make it any less painful. It wasn't just hard on him either, Brianna's eyes began to water heavily and her voice started to crack between each word.
"I do love you, I really do. I really love you but you deserve someone who can handle this better and who can take care of you." As Randy opened his mouth to speak she ran her hands up his face, it was a comforting way of quieting him down. "I can't handle this, at least right now. And no matter what our feelings are that doesn't change it."
Everything in Randy made him want to change her mind. Eagerly he wanted to try and change her mind and talk her out of it but he couldn't be selfish with her, all he could do was nod and peck her lips once more.
The woman stared up at him and cringed at his pitiful expression. He looked emotionally beaten and Brie hated that she was responsible. She let out a few more words between each sniffle.
"Maybe one day you know, if we're meant to be – we'll be."
The clock was winding down and midnight was approaching. Barbie really outdid herself this time. Everyone was filled with tons of good food and had smiles on faces. Over near the entertainment section held the most people. Phillip and AJ were sitting together on the big sofa chair; she was watching the game while he chose to watch her instead. Sitting on the couch was John Cena, Dolph Ziggler and Cody Rhodes. John and Dolph were watching the Chargers game really closely while every couple of seconds Cody's eyes turned to look at the two sitting on the floor. Mike Mizanin was leaning against a piece of furniture with cheerleader Eve Torres snuggled up to him. Miz was debating back and forth with Dolph over football while Eve sat sipping on her wine giggling at her boyfriend.
In the kitchen sat Maria Kanellis, Maryse Ouellet, and the party host Barbie Blank herself. These three haven't talked in a long time so it was nice to be able to have this time and reconnect. They took this time to discuss what has happened in recent weeks and just to catch up. Barbie dominated most of the conversation by talking about her new boyfriend and how exciting that was. Maryse also talked up a storm, she discussed her studies and a trip that she's been planning. The only one who was kind of quiet was Maria, but that was no surprise because the redhead wanted to stay as far away from the conversation as possible.
The last ten seconds of the game approached and the deciding score was due to a field goal in the last second. The passion from a few of the guys in the room became obvious as they grieved their favorite team's loss. The moment that Barbie Blank knew that the game was over she picked up the bottle of champagne and headed towards the crowd.
It was hard for the woman to gain the attention of everyone when there was so much bickering amongst the men. She walked over confidently and turned off the television before standing on top of the coffee table. A couple people let out soft chuckles while others just stared in confusion.
As the blonde went to speak she was cut short when a creaking door opened. In came a distraught Randy Orton. Everyone cheered and welcomed him, they were all a bit surprised that he even showed up because the party started at 9:00 it was now 11:55.
"Where have you been man?" Dolph asked with a smile on his face.
"Out…" The tatted man looked the woman on the coffee table up and down, "What's going on here?"
"We are going to make a toast."
"hmm, no thanks." Cody mumbled as he took a sip of his soda.
"I heard that Rhodes. You're going to make a toast or I'll beat your little ass."
"No, I'm actually with Cody on this one aren't toasts like…cheesy?" The Miz added in.
"Nevermind, let's make a toast then." Rhodes said subtly, "Barbs, continue."
A slight glare came from Mike at that comment. Eve let out a small laugh and rubbed his backside to calm him down while she listened in on her roommates.
"Thank you. FYI, it's not cheesy. It's just classic. We have had a crazy year you guys, absolutely crazy like look at who's here… look at who we're standing with… Not one couple in this room could've been predicted." Barbara glanced over at Mike and Eve and then turned to look at Phil and AJ. No one saw that coming at all, but yet they both gel so well together it's amazing. The blonde then looked ahead and smiled at her boyfriend, Dolph Ziggler. The one guy who has made her happier than any other guy in her entire life has.
The woman turned to her friends and smiled, "Who's next?"
There was a small lapse of silence but her trusty roommate Eve Torres picked it back up "I mean we're all here healthy. A few of us in this room shouldn't even be standing here today and here we are. That shows just how crazy of a year it's been."
All the students agreed on that, it was truly a blessing. Mike placed a heavy kiss on her cheek and hugged onto her tighter. Ater that no one else wanted to speak up and the expression on Barbie's face said it all.
"Really? No one else wants to say anything else, you all suck."
John Cena let out a small chuckle "I'll say a few things… We're wrapping up this year in like a month and that's crazy. It's my last year unlike most of you guys who are going to be here next year and maybe years after that and I'm happy for you all. I've obviously gone through some dramatic changes throughout the year but my favorite part about this experience is think about it. Most of us in here hated each other at the beginning of the year. I still remember seeing Mike and Phil fight in the middle of the parking lot."
Everyone let out a soft chuckle, including the best friends themselves. Mike wrapped Punk up with his right arm in a friendly playful manner.
"I remember when Eve and Maryse bitched out each other in the middle of Starbucks, hell I remember bitching out Maryse in the middle of Starbucks." The golden boy looked over at the French Canadian and she just laughed it off.
"Half of the people in here liked the other half of the room at some point and looked how that turned out… I guess all I have to say is it's been one hell of a year and yeah, speech over."
They took the moment to rethink their time together and it really was crazy how much change has happened but like typical college kids they raised their alcoholic beverage and were thankful that the speech was finally over. The only one who wasn't ready to kill the cheers was Barbie who still had a dropped jaw and looked like she was about to fall over.
"See people! That's what I'm talking about. Good job John, good job. Cheers everyone!" Barbie took a sip and hopped down and connected her feet back to the carpet. The blonde ran into her boyfriend Dolph's hands and gave him a big kiss.
Little did the woman know that during the kiss Eve was setting up a surprise group hug to catch the couple off guard. When the pair's embrace ended they were greeted with a big group hug. A couple of chuckles and giggles were formed in the meantime. All jokes aside they all really loved each other and were grateful for the relationships they've built with one another. Although the year started out bumpy this group of Covington students knew how to triumph against the odds.
