A/N: The After-Chapter A/N is important, so please read it. Other than that, Enjoy!
RWBY plus Phoenix arrived at Beacon. Trucy went to the hotel to call friends, and to practice a few new magic tricks. They got to there hallway, and there sat JNPR, minus the J. Ren sat there, eyes shut, while he listened to Nora rant on about how she was going not only break the guy that framed Jaune's legs, but his arms as well. Then, there was Pyrrha. When Phoenix saw her, he didn't even think it was her, that it was someone else in her skin. She was pacing, a concerned look in her eyes that Phoenix could barely make out form her tilted down head. Phoenix noticed she was very methodical about her steps: 1, 2, 3, 4, turn, 1, 2, 3, 4, turn again, and repeated it. Yang took the lead as she walked up to Pyrrha. "Hey Pyrrha."
Pyrrha stopped her pacing, as she looked at Yang. "Hi Yang." She said in a meek voice.
"I heard what happened to Jaune, and I-"
"HE DIDN'T DO IT ALRIGHT!?" Pyrrha suddenly bursted out. Yang held her hands up in self defense, "I never said he did." She replied slowly. Pyrrha's eyes went form one of anger, to one of sorrow.
"I-I'm sorry... I didn't mean to-" Yang put her hand on Pyrrha's shoulder, "It's okay; I understand." Pyrrha smiled, as the apology was accepted. "Now, let's get down to business: Do you know any details about the events that happened?"
"S-some what..." Pyrrha said, wavering. When Phoenix noticed this, locks appeared around her, as his magatama acted up.
"Yang, can I talk to you for a second?" Phoenix asked, stepping aside, to request Yang to join him.
"Sure." She turned back to Pyrrha, asking her to start recalling, as she headed to Phoenix. By now, the RWB went to their room, and stayed in there until Phoenix was done talking to Yang.
"What's up Phoenix?" She asked.
"Yang, Pyrrha is hiding something." He said bluntly.
"How do you know?" Yang asked. Phoenix pointed to his magatama.
"It tells me if they're lying." Phoenix let Yang comprehend it, before continuing, "Okay, I'm going to walk you through this-"
"Wait, you're not going to cross-examine her?" Yang asked, surprised.
"No; you're the attorney. This will be good practice for you. Now, look. When she gives her testimony, make note of any evidence she exposes in her testimony. That can be used against her. Also, try to Press her on her statements. Right now, we need all the information we can get. And, if she's not letting on as much, try to Press Harder to shake her loose a little bit.
Okay, after you press her, make sure you check your Evidence, and run by every statement again. If there is a Contradiction, you can Object, and show her the evidence that proves she is lying.
Press, Evidence, Objection. That's all you need."
"Okay, and how will I know when she is telling the truth?" Yang asked, a hint of doubt in her voice.
"I'll intervene, you just keep going." Phoenix smiled, and nodded. Yang returned the nod, and went back to Pyrrha.
"Okay Pyrrha. Please tell me what you know."
"Gladly!" She responds.
Pyrrha's Testimony: Jaune's Predicament
Jaune was just walking to class, when he was arrested by the Campus P.D.
They told him he is charged for assault on Cardin, and took him away.
Apparently, he had been stalking Cardin in the middle of the night
And once Cardin stopped, he jumped him.
Jaune had put him in a headlock, and made him unconscious, before running.
-end-
"Okay, can you repeat that again?" Yang said, getting her notepad out.
"Gladly." Pyrrha said, a smile appearing on her face.
Rebuttal: Jaune's Predicament
Jaune was just walking to class, when he was arrested by the Campus P.D.
"Hold It! What time was he arrested?"
"Hmm.. it was about 12:30..." So, Jaune was walking to class AFTER lunch...
(Arrested Time added to Yang's notepad.)
They told him he is charged for assault on Cardin, and took him away.
"Hold It! Did they present any evidence to him as proof?"
"...No!" Pyrrha blurted out, after a little pause. That's awfully suspicious... I'm sorry Pyrrha... I don't think Jaune is THAT stupid.
"Didn't Jaune ask what proof they had, to prove it was him?"
"Yes..."
"...And they didn't?"
"Well... there was something..."
+They said that Jaune's sword was found next to Cardin.
"Hold It! So that's how they linked Jaune to the crime scene?"
"It would appear so," Pyrrha said dully, "Yes..."
(+ Jaune's sword added to Yang's notepad)
"Say, did they say anything else?"
"No. They just took him, and left."
"Okay... continue."
Apparently, he had been stalking Cardin in the middle of the night
I can't ask why he did that... She wouldn't know.
And once Cardin stopped in the garden, he jumped him.
Yang recalled something earlier in the testimony, and was almost shocked to realize the contradiction. She cringed, but a feeling of excitement came over her.
"Pyrrha, what you just said interests me."
"How so?"
"Well, may I ask how you know this?"
"Well, that's simple, I-" Pyrrha paused, realizing what Yang just asked.
"You realize it now, don't you?"
"I-I-I over heard it from some students talking about it!" Pyrrha responded with a fake smile.
"I don't think that's the case... in fact, I think you just lied to me."
"H-how so?"
"Well, I have an idea. There's only 1 way you would know where Cardin got jumped! You had to see Jaune there with Cardin!" Pyrrha's eyes widened, looking around for help that wasn't there. Finally, her shoulder's slumped. She took a defeated breath, and she started talking.
"Okay, you got me. The night in which Cardin was jumped, it was the same night me and Jaune trained. I noticed he kept taking an alternate route to get to the dorm, so I decided to follow him for once. He cut through the Garden, which was lighted, so I had to travel by thick brush to follow him. Then, I heard some sort of struggle, and, when I got to the sounds, I saw that Jaune was running away, with Cardin on the ground. I could only assume the worse at the time."
Yang turned to Phoenix, who nodded at her. "Okay Pyrrha. Thanks for being honest with me."
"I-I heard you are defending Jaune. Are you still going to do it?" Pyrrha asked.
"Of course. That blonde haired scardy-cat wouldn't hurt a fly." Pyrrha nodded graciously, and slipped into her dorm.
"You did well, Yang." Phoenix said, but Yang could sense something in his voice. Something of... confusion. When Yang thought about, she did notice something too.
"Mr. Wright, can I talk something out with you?"
"Sure, what?"
"Well, her testimony is tripping me up." Phoenix didn't respond, so she continued, "I was listening to it, but something didn't fit."
"...You noticed it too, huh?" Phoenix smiled, but confusion was still in his eyes.
"Yeah. It was the sword that tripped me up. If Jaune was there, but left his sword, wouldn't Pyrrha have noticed it?"
"Exactly. And that's what you need to get to the bottom of. By the way," Phoenix pulled something out of his pocket, and threw it to Yang. "Here is her true testimony. Use it as you like."
(+Pyrrha's true testimony is slipped into Yang's pocket.)
"Also," Yang continued, "If Pyrrha was telling the truth, and did see Jaune put him in a headlock, then-"
"Don't think like that." Phoenix cut her off, "Pyrrha could see 1 thing, and mistake it. That's always a possibility."
"Okay, so... where to now?" Yang asked Mr. Wright.
"Well... the only lead we have is the crime scene, so that's probably our best bet." Phoenix proposed, so they went off to the supposed crime scene.
When they arrived, only 2 on-campus officers were there. The sword wasn't there, but phoenix could barely make out an outline of something that looked like it.
"Excuse me, officers?" Yang got their attention, "I'm the attorney for the boy that is accused of this crime. May I observe the crime scene."
"Of course you can." They smiled, and let her through. Phoenix followed her, but was blocked off by a forearm. "Sir, you are not allowed to go through."
"But-"
"No buts, sir."
"Officers, he's my assistant." Yang called out over her shoulder. They gave him a glare, then pushed him into the crime scene.
"Damn! Why are they so nice to you, but absolute assholes to me?" Phoenix whined.
"Oh, well, I guess I just have my way." Yang smiled at the lawyer with a cheesy grin. Then, her face turned serious, realizing that now was the time to get clues.
There wasn't much of the crime scene. It was just a garden. 2 imprints were on the grass, 2 of which had to have been Cardin and Jaune, and then one that was behind a few shrubs, which had to have been Pyrrha. On the walkway next to the garden, was a chalk outline, which had to be Jaune's sword, which was a good 4 yards from the imprints.
"I wonder why the sword is a bit away from the imprints?" Yang wondered aloud.
"Could the confrontation happen on the grass, and the sword get flung on the walkway?" Phoenix asked, already knowing the answer.
Yang took a second to answer, "No, because there would've been evidence of a struggle."
"Right. So, any other ideas?"
"Well... we don't know enough... yet. I'll just make a mark of it." Yang explained, jotting it down in her notepad.
(+ Jaune's sword added to Yang's Notepad)
"But... where now?" Yang asked, lost."
"Why? Do you think we're done here?" Phoenix asked, taking a look around.
"I mean, nothing is here..." Yang told him, helpless.
Phoenix stuck his hand in his pocket, looking at the sun. "Man, I wonder how dark it gets when the sun goes down." Yang gave him an odd glance, then something snapped.
"It has to get pretty dark, since there's no light poles... Hey!" Yang expressed with joy.
"Exactly. And since it's so dark, then..."
"...Then Pyrrha couldn't see Jaune and Cardin!"
"Bingo" Phoenix applauded.
(+ Crime Scene added to Yang's notepad)
"Alright; It's about 1:30. I say we investigate 1 more place, then get you back to your dorm to think about today, and make connections." Phoenix proposed.
"Sounds good. But where to?"
"Good question..." Phoenix hadn't thought about that himself.
"Perhaps I can be of assistance." A 3rd voice said. Phoenix turned around to see a man standing right behind him. This man had a mighty grey mustache, Grey hair, and a red suit with golden buttons.
"Professor Port!" Yang identified him.
"Ah, Mrs. Long. How have you been darling."
"Well, boring, due to the fact that I don't have a chance to sleep in your class right now!" She joked, and bellowed a mighty laugh. Why couldn't my teachers laugh when I fell asleep in my classes? Phoenix thought to himself.
"Ah, and you must be Mr. Phoenix Wright, the legendary attorney." Port addressed him.
"Hehe, that's me..." Phoenix scratched the back of his head.
"Ah, but, now on to business. I do report seeing something with my every eyes." Port got on track again. Though I am really grateful he would come to us for information, I am questioning how he would see anything, with his eyes shut... Phoenix thought to himself again. "I will give you all the details, no need to press me, and I vow, on my teaching degree, to tell the truth."
"Okay, Professor Port. Give me your testimony." Yang said, getting her notepad out.
"No need to write this down; I've already have a copy for you." Port said, handing her a piece of paper.
(+Ports Testimony added to Yang's pocket)
"Thank you, but could you also recite it?" Yang asked.
"Of course!" Port accepted, with enthusiasm.
Port's Testimony: What I saw
I was walking through the campus at night, as I usually do.
Then I saw someone of a larger scale, running from someone from a smaller scale.
The smaller looked like he had something sticking out of his hand.
They ran around for a bit, before they got out of my sight.
I say it was a good 5 minutes passed before the smaller one came out.
I stayed there for about 1 hour, then left.
-End-
"Wow... Thanks... prof. Port..." Yang said, a little disappointed.
"Anytime Time Mrs. Long! Good luck!" A happy professor Port then walked away.
"Well... that was useless..." Yang sighed.
"Not entirely." Phoenix rejected her idea.
"How so?" Yang asked.
"Well... think about the last thing he said."
"'I was there for an hour'?" Yang repeated his statement.
"Well... think about it. Cardin was out, so he stayed. But, shouldn't there be a 2nd person walking out?"
"...Wait... Yeah! Pyrrha!"
"Exactly." Phoenix said, with a smile.
"So, is there anything else?"
"...We have no leads, so I guess this is the end of the investigation." Phoenix shrugged, giving his honest opinion,
"Well... Looks like we-" Yang was cut off, by her scroll. Yang held up a finger, and looked at the scroll, with a confused face. "Ozpin wants to see you in his office."
"Hm. Okay. I'll probably go back to my hotel after. Get a good night's sleep. Tomorrow's a big day, alright?"
"Okay. Thanks!" Yang then wrapped the attorney into a bear hug, to which Mr. Wright swore he had broken every rib. She let him go, and went on her way to her dorm. Phoenix only looked at the blonde bruiser for a moment, before heading off in the opposite direction towards Ozpin's office.
The secretary let him pass, and he knocked on Ozpin's office. "Come in." The voice of the headmaster said through the door. Phoenix sighed, and opened the door. The office was exactly the same as Apollo and Athena described it when they visited. Ozpin, though was standing, looking out at his school through his window. "Mr. Wright. It's an honor. Please sit down." Ozpin said with a friendly voice, but Phoenix could sense something was wrong.
"Hello Mr. Ozpin." Phoenix greeted, sitting down. Ozpin turned to face him, a cup of coffee in his hand. It had a particularly strong scent. A scent Phoenix has sniffed before, which confirmed Phoenix's suspicion of the headmaster.
"So... he shared his favorite cup of coffee with you. #102, I presume." Phoenix asked. Ozpin glared at him, looking between him and the coffee. He set the cup down, and reached under his desk, and pulled out a grape juice bottle, offering it to Phoenix. "I heard you liked grape juice."
"You heard correct." Phoenix acknowledged, taking the bottle.
"Hm. I'm impressed, Mr. Wright. Not a lot of people are able to connect me to my cousin, Mr. Godot."
"I'm flattered, but I feel like you didn't call me in here to recall memories of him." Phoenix guessed.
"Right again. I've called you in here to give you a position here at Beacon."
"Hm?" Phoenix asked, taking a sip of his grape juice.
"It's a position as the official attorney for Beacon. I feel as though you've come to know this school enough to fill this roll. The pay is quite nice, if I might add."
"...First of all, Why now? This seems to sudden."
"Well, as you may know, we have had multiple crimes committed here at Beacon, and I would like an attorney to help get these messes resolved."
"Okay... I'm going to need some time to think about this, though."
"That's fine. I would like an answer by then end of this trial, though."
"That seems do-able."
"Great; Well, I'd better let you get your daughter and get to your hotel."
"Thanks."
"Have a safe night Mr. Wright." Ozpin dismissed him, sipping his coffee. Phoenix got up and walked out the door, multiple ideas swimming around in his mind.
Phoenix got to their dorm, and knocked on the door. "Come in!" The voice, identifiable by Ruby called out. He opened the door, and saw Ruby and Trucy sitting together, with Mr. Hat out.
"Hi Dad." Trucy said, a yawn escaping her mouth. "Is it time to go?" Phoenix nodded, and Trucy started putting Mr. Hat away. Phoenix looked around the cramped room, and saw that Weiss and Ruby were the only team members here. "Hey Ruby, where's Yang and Blake?"
"Oh, they went up to the roof; they said they had to look over the case notes for tomorrow."
"They did, eh?" Phoenix smiled. "Hey, can you give Yang a note for me?"
"Sure! What is it?" The grey eyed girl smiled. Phoenix took his notepad out, jotted something down, and gave it to Ruby. Then, Trucy and Phoenix said their good-byes, and left the campus.
About 15 minutes later, Yang and Blake came back into the room. "Hey, Trucy left?" Yang asked her sister.
"Yeah, Phoenix took her, and they went to their hotel." Ruby looked away for a moment, before shooting up a bit. "Oh, and Mr. Wright asked me to give this to you." Ruby then handed Yang the note Mr. Wright wrote. Yang immediately read it aloud, "I'll be watching in the stands tomorrow. Have Blake be your assistant."
Elsewhere...
Phoenix was in the shower, Trucy's already wrapped up. He stood their, flashbacks happening left and right. His first trial... That was an experience. He knew that he wouldn't be able to calm Yang down if she made a mistake, so he chose the best person for the job: Blake. He remembered what became of his first trial, the loss of his boss... Then that weird thing. That similarity between her and Blake... Phoenix shook his head, trying to clear his head, and relax for once. Tomorrow's going to definably going to be a new experience.
To Be Continued...
A/N: Chapter finally done! Whew, this took a while. This is actually 2 writing blocks: One was right before summer break, and the other was today, actually. Sorry for the unintentional hiatus. This summer is starting out really lazy for me. By the way, I hope you guys are either having a great summer break, or getting good grades on finals!
Also, I have some unfortunate news: I will not be making a sequel this summer. I've decided, since season 2 is starting in 36 days. 36! I can't wait. The sequel, of course, will be written after season 2.
That's about it. Question of the Day: Who are you rooting for in the world cup?
And, as always, feel free to Review, Favorite, Follow, Ask Questions, and Constructive Criticism is always loved!
May God be with you until we meet again!
