Hey oh, Guys! Sorry I haven't updated, a new follower coaxed me out of my dark pit. I know just how frustrating a non frequent update is. Now I'm back! I also apologize for the chunky flow of the storyline. I thought Millie should think a bit randomly, As if she was thinking about everything all at once. Enjoy, the few of you who follow/favorite!
(Millie's POV)
Once we were done at Fink's, we went back to Jack's place to tackle our giant load of books. After LONG millennia of reading, I started getting bored. All the books were about Jack or Halloween stuff (Which is very interesting, mind you, when you don't read 40 BOOKS containing all of the same information.) At some point, I looked up randomly from the textbook I had to see a look flicker across Jack's skeletal face. Could he have found something? I never knew, because he quickly masked it. What could Bone daddy be hiding?
After centuries of reading, I plunked down my book and announced "I'm bored to death, I think I'll go outside." Jack's eye sockets widened. "Are you sure? I don't think any of the townspeople will be happy to see you, after all the commotion you caused last night."
"I'll be fine. If anyone tries hurting me, I'll do Mil-jitsu on them!" I did karate moves for emphasis, and ended up tripping over a book. Jack laughed.
"Ok, but I'll go along with you so you won't get into any trouble. You OR them." He said.
I put on my combat boots and we walked out the door into the crisp autumn air. The sky was cloudy, with the pumpkin sun beams peeking out. Tall trees scraped the sky, with orange leaves still hanging on to the branches of some. It was my favorite sight to see, no wonder I loved autumn so much. I felt peaceful here, like I belonged. With Jack trailing behind, I entered the town square. I circled the fountain, spinning around a couple times as I walked in a slow, simple dance. After I was done, I made my way back to Jack, who had been standing by a hanging tree. "I never realized how wonderful this place was." I said.
"It is, though sometimes it can seem like a cage, forced into the same old thing that's hard to escape." Jack mused sadly.
I nodded my head, understanding his words. He had already told me about the sandy claws incident, and I knew what it was like to feel that. Sometimes I felt like I wanted to escape from my small town into a fantasy world. I guess I got my wish.
"You know what? Sometimes I feel like that too. I guess everyone feels like that, from time to time." I responded.
Silently, we came to the graveyard. Once again, Jack stopped near a tall grave, while I weaved in and out through the plots. Without knowing why, I began to sing. I felt it was right.
"Wandering child, of the earth, do you know just how much you're worth? You have walked this path since your birth, you were destined for more."
I didn't care who heard, the only thing in the world was me, the song, and the graves.
"There are those who'll tell you you're wrong, those who try to silence your song, but right here is where you belong, so don't search anymore.
You are the dawn of a new day that's waking, a masterpiece still in the making, a spot of blue in an ocean of grey, you are right where you need to be, poised to inspire and succeed. You'll look back and you'll realize one day."
As I finished my song, I suddenly remembered I was not alone. I turned back to see Jack dumbfounded. "I didn't know you sang."
"Well, you have only known me for a day." I responded.
"I wonder how you'll surprise me next!" Jack said. Abruptly, we heard movement behind us. I whipped around to see Sally, coming up from behind a grave.
"Jeepers creepers, Sally! Don't do that!" I said, startled. The two stared at me. "Jeepers creepers? I thought kids your age didn't use that anymore!" Jack said.
"I use a pretty interesting vocabulary." I responded, embarrassed.
"I guess I found my surprise then!" Jack and Sally laughed. I just blushed. It's not every day you hear someone say what I said.
"Sally, why don't we show Millie around the town a bit more?" Jack said.
"Sure, I do need to grab something at the witches' shop anyways." Sally replied. "Would you like to come along, Millie?"
"YES!" I shouted enthusiastically.
Jack and Sally laughed again. This time, I didn't blush. A goofy grin came across my face instead. We all turned and headed toward the witches' shop.
….
The little bell on the doorway ringed as we entered the shop. It was filled with all sorts of broomsticks, jars of ingredients, and other paraphernalia you would expect a witch to have. Behind the countertop was a giant boiling cauldron, with one small and one tall witch beside it.
"This place is AMAZING!" I declared. The tall witch turned around to greet us.
"Hello Jack, Sally… and the HUMAN?!" The witch shouted "What is THAT doing here?!"
"Don't worry Zelda, she's a friend." Jack explained.
"I am, and I don't bite." I said.
"As long as she doesn't make anything explode in here." Zelda replied.
While Jack struck up a conversation with the two witches, Sally and I glanced around the room. "So what are you looking for?" I asked her.
"Frog's breath." Sally responded.
I found a dark green can labeled with the exact name we were looking for. "Found it!" I announced. Sally took the can and went over to Zelda to pay for it. When she was done, I took the container out of her hand. "So what exactly IS Frog's breath? Is a little frog in there?" I said, fiddling with the container. I started to unscrew the lid.
"DON'T OPEN IT!" Sally shouted. But it was too late.
The little frog came out and hit me full on with a breathy blast. Dropping the canister, I fell to the floor, coughing and hacking my lungs out. The edges of everything were fuzzy, and I think I even blacked out for a second. Sally and Jack stayed by my side while Hilda and Zelda went to a window or something. Everyone was shouting, but it sounded like they were underwater. Whatever the witches were doing, it must have worked, because everything became slowly clearer, and everyone became louder.
"How is she doing?" Hilda questioned.
"I think she's breathing steadily." Jack shouted back.
"Millie, can you hear me? Are you okay?" Sally asked.
"Fine, but I think I may be afraid of frogs now." I replied breathlessly.
"She's fine." Sally said.
"I'm sorry I caused such uproar." I said "I didn't want to be a problem."
"You didn't do anything wrong. We're just glad you're okay. Some have gotten much worse from a direct blast of frog's breath." Jack said.
After a moment's rest, we exited the witches' shop and got me back to my room in the town hall. I stayed inside for the rest of the day, and I learned my lesson the hard way.
I put my characters through so much….. Well, at least you got your excitement. The song I used here was called "Wanderer's Lullaby" by a musical genius called Adrisaurus. Look her up on YouTube, she has some great songs! See you soon!
