Chapter 3.
Harry awoke in a room he immediately identified as a hospital room. In his previous life, he had often woken up in such similar situations, it was hardly surprising the instant recognition he had. What was odd though was that his vision was clear as soon as his eyes opened.
From long practice, his mind went through the three WTF's.
What the fuck happened? The last thing he remembered was flying through the floo at the reception of St Mungos and landing in a heap. Before he had time to even rise to his feet though, a healer had run through the doors at the end of the reception room and had headed towards him. While the healer was not frantic, he sure was hurrying towards Harry. Before Harry had a chance to say a word, the healer conjured a stretcher and guided him to lie down upon it.
'What's your name, son?' The healer asked Harry as he complied and lay down fully upon the stretcher.
'Harry Potter, sir.' He answered in his squeaky child's voice. The healer's eyebrows shot up at his name, but to Harry's relief, he did not flick his eyes up to his infamous scar. Instead he turned his head to the receptionist, who was gawking at the scene in front of her and barked out an order.
'Contact Madame Bones at the Department of Magical Law Enforcement immediately. This case will need her personal involvement.' The receptionist, upon hearing this, raced to the floo and threw in a handful of powder while the healer guided Harry's stretcher through the doors. The last thing he remembered was the healer telling him
'This will go a lot easier and less painfully if we put you to sleep Mr Potter. Just relax and when you wake up you should feel a lot better.'
Indeed he did, if his eyesight being corrected was any indication. He had already identified where the fuck he was so that question was fine and the who the fuck did it to him was self-explanatory as he had done this to himself by coming to the hospital.
While mulling this all over, a familiar face entered the room, a face he identified as the healer who had taken him into hand when he had entered the hospital.
'Good afternoon Mr Potter' He greeted warmly. 'My name is healer Filligree. How are you feeling?'
Harry smiled at the healer and said 'I am feeling fine, although I am a little confused.'
The healer nodded at this and conjured a chair to sit in.
'I can understand that, so let me tell you what has happened and by the end if you have any further questions I will be more than happy to answer them for you. Does that sound fair?' He asked the boy in front of him. Harry nodded and sat back, awaiting the explanation.
'What many people do not know,' Healer Filligree began 'is that the floo entrances of St Mungos have detectors alerting us to the patient's condition upon arrival. This immediately lets the physician on hand to know what level of emergency the patient is in and so treatment can begin as soon as possible if needed. You set off the detectors from your malnutrition as well as the severe injuries you have suffered in the past as well as the dark magic detector when your scar was scanned. That is why I was in such a hurry to greet you.' The healer explained to Harry. Harry nodded in understanding and waited for the healer to continue.
'There was no way any of your injuries were caused by accident so I contacted Director Bones of your condition as soon as possible to investigate what happened.
Seeing that Harry was still confused as Director Bones was not there, Healer Filligree went on to explain that the scans that he performed were classed as evidence and there was no need for Harry to speak to Director Bones at the moment as she had more than enough grounds to go and investigate the Dirzlys. Harry hid a smile at this, as Sal had said this would be exactly what happened. The Healer then performed some diagnostic spells on him and nodded in satisfaction at his progress and gave him two vials of potion to drink. He swallowed the first one, which he knew to be a nutrition potion and then took the second which was a sleeping draught, which would help his body further recover from the healing magic performed as it put a large strain on his body to fully heal the damage.
*The next day (*
The next time that Harry opened his eyes, he found the figure of Amelia Bones sitting next to his bed, reading through a file that seemed quite thick. His slight shifting in his bed must have broken her concentration as she looked up, her monocle glinting in the sunlight streaming through the window.
'Good morning Mr Potter' she said in a slightly warmer tone than he had ever heard her use. 'My name is Amelia Bones and I am the head of the Department of Magical Law Enforcement.'
Harry smiled shyly at the director and said
'It's nice to meet you ma'am.'
Amelia Bones nodded and said 'Likewise, Mr potter. Although I wish the meeting had been under other circumstances. Healer Filligree tells me that you are fully recovered from your experience with your Aunt and Uncle.'
Harry nodded at this as he felt remarkably good, better than he had ever felt in his life.
Amelia Continued, 'Now about your Aunt and uncle. I along with two aurors, which are your magical police,' She explained, seeing his confused look at the new word, 'arrived at your home yesterday morning after doing a thorough background check into how you were placed with your Aunt and Uncle. First can you tell me anything you know about it?'
Harry nodded and answered
'According to Aunt Petunia I was dropped off on their doorstep in a bundle of blankets with a letter, no one even bothered asking them if they wanted me, I was just dumped there.'
Amelia nodded at this and made a note in the file she carried.
'That is what she also told us. The problem is though is that even if she did not want you, she did take you in and Petunia and her husband and later, your cousin verbally and physically abused you. Your Aunt and Uncle are currently in DMLE custody pending a trial and your cousin has been placed into a home for troubled children, considering his other activities within your neighbourhood that had been discovered. Your aunt seemed to neglect that fact that she knew that any crimes committed against a magical in the muggle world can be prosecuted in our world. I do not think that they will be seeing the outside of a prison for quite a number of years, especially considering who you are.'
'Who I am? What do you mean?' Harry asked her, pretending to be confused as by the time line he really wasn't supposed to know his story.
Amelia frowned and then proceeded to tell him all about the legend behind his name and how he supposedly killed the dark lord.
Harry frowned as he asked 'So, what will happen to me now Madame Bones?'
Amelia smiled and then explained that because he was soon to attend Hogwarts, she had arranged for him to stay at The Leaky Cauldron for the month and a half he had left until he was to go to Hogwarts. She informed him that Tom would keep an eye on him while he was in the alley and that he would be happy to answer any question Harry had in regards to the wizarding world.
Harry thanked her and she left shortly after. A few hours later healer Filligree entered his room and ran several diagnostic charms on Harry.
'Well everything seems to be going well, although you will need to be on a potions regimen for the next six months in order to counter the malnutrition that you suffered. I will set it up with the school healer for you to have regular visits in order to monitor your progress. I only have one further thing to talk to you about.' He said with a smile.
Harry nodded and listened as the healer told him about the dark magic behind his scar and that at the moment the healer was unable to identify it and therefore could not remove it at this time, but it would be monitored along with his health. Harry thanked the healer and was discharged later that afternoon.
