Chapter Twenty-Six

Brody William Black.

Tyler picked the name. I was surprised when we were stumped on something a bit original, but not too different. When Tyler mentioned it, I couldn't really imagine anything different than that. Once both Jake and I agreed to it, we were able to finally finalize the papers and get him his birth certificate.

I guess I really should explain the past couple weeks that had past since the moment we walked into our new home. It was quite extravagant to say the least. The entire house was redone. The kitchen now had stainless steel appliances that matched the brand new cupboards and granite counters. They added an island with a rack that hung the brand new pots and pans and other cookware. The floor was now laminate that covered the dining area and the living area.

Instead of buying a new table set, our old one had been sanded down and varnished along with the chairs. The windows had also been replaced with new ones. The living area had quite a few adjustments too. The fireplace had been fixed up with the rock like sidings and the new mantle placed above it. The wall was repainted as well as the new fan being installed.

In the bathroom, the sauna tub was moved by the fog window and had been extended to install a shower stall to along with a new counter and toilet. The floor had been redone with hardwood. The mirrors now matched the rest of the bathroom with a fan finally installed too. It was perfect.

What was going to be the nursery was turned into another guest room. Our room was moved upstairs where they added a new floor. It surprised me to see that they turned our room into the laundry room while they took out the third room to put the stairs to the next floor. The laundry room of course had been readjusted thanks to the communities help.

Apparently the housing committee threw in a few dollars to help here and there with the expenses.

Upstairs was smaller than downstairs, but it was just as perfect. Once you reached upstairs, the nursery was to the left with the master bedroom to the right and the bathroom at the end of the hall that was connected to our room.

The nursery now had a new crib along with everything giving to Brody from his baby shower. A rocking chair was placed next to his crib along with a change-table beside the door. The closet was now organized with his clothes and his blankets courtesy of Rachel and Kim.

The master room was more than I had expected it to be. We had a new bed for one. I wasn't sure how I handled sharing a small double bed with Jake, and now we had a queen bed with a new duvet and blanket set. There was a bay window to the side to outlook the ocean in a distance. Everything was perfect and matched.

I later found that my parents had even put a couple dollars in the project. It was my father's way of showing me that he will continue to try and accept my decisions along with the family I was slowly building.

It was then I knew by then that the pup would never return, and that he was now the baby I held in my arms. The council mentioned that it has never been heard of, but that didn't mean that it wasn't impossible. In fact, they were beginning to believe it, and they were more than happy to help us become Brody's parents.

With everything finally settling in, the pack was happy to welcome the child just as the others had. A celebration was thrown for him and everyone showed up, including my father's family. Even though I could see the slight discomforts, they all agreed to be civil with each other. It was a great day and I couldn't have asked for more.

But the strangest opinion was mentioned to Jake that he had brought to me. Seth apparently suggested that we take blood tests. I didn't understand the reasons or Seth's theories until he explained that it could be possible that the child was really brought to us with our genetics in mind. If he really was a gift, than maybe he carried our DNA since most have mentioned that Brody looked like the both of us.

So we figured we'd give it a try and ran it by my grandpa Carlisle. The appointment was set for a couple days away since he needed to stock his own supplies. It really gave me time to really think about it, and why Seth had been acting strange since the past week. I was surprised to see him at the party, and I wondered why he was avoiding us with every chance he had. He did leave first and I only spotted him across the room once. I wanted to make sure that I could speak to him about it once we were alone; I was beginning to think I was losing a friend over this.

With that little problem, there seemed to be another problem on the pack's path. They approached my family and aunt Alice about any suspicions of and nomads coming through our territories. Aunt Alice had picked on something, but her visions were blurred with something blocking it. Jake told me not to worry, but what else could I do. I was a helpless human now, and I could only seem to pick up on my father's abilities here and there. I guess I hadn't entirely lost it when I could almost pick up on his thoughts whenever he was around.

But back to the nomad, or if the vampire was alone or not, it seemed to be searching for something, or someone.

Everyone went on alert when Leah had picked up on a stench at my grandparent's house back in Forks. She summoned the pack quickly to do some investigating along with my parents and family. It was frustrating to know that something was familiar, yet still foreign to a lot of them. Aunt Alice still couldn't see the vampire or distinguish what exactly their plan was. She explained that to her, it was as if her visions were following a shadow, searching through each room and leaving with nothing.

I asked her if I could try to see if I could still pick up on her abilities, and as we tried, I was able to see the small portions of what she could. It really was like following a shadow through the house. It made me wonder if it could really be a vampire, or something worse than we could imagine.

I tried clearing my head with the wedding plans, seeing we hadn't even set a date, and Jake was leaving that up to me, just as long as we married soon. To top that off, my birthday was coming up, and I wasn't looking too forward to any celebrations, especially when the unknown being was wandering around under our chins.

It was easier to keep myself occupied being with Brody more than anything. Whenever Jake would come back from patrols or work, he had little time to spend with Brody and me. But since grandpa Carlisle had been swamped with the chaos taking place, we decided that we'd go over the manor tonight to run the tests and see if Brody really was given to us through the spirits.

"Is there something wrong with Seth?" I asked Jake as I sat in back with Brody.

"What do you mean Seb?" He asked looking at me through the rearview mirror.

"Well he's worrying me a little." I admitted. "Lately he's been distant from me, and I can't help but to think that I had done something wrong."

"He's just going through a few things." He replied staring ahead. "It's something you'll have to ask him love."

"I would if he would just let me." I sighed defeated, "I even tried asking Ty and Paul if they knew anything, but they hadn't noticed."

"He'll come around." He replied blankly.

"I don't want to lose Seth as a friend Jake, and if you know what's wrong, you'd tell me right?" I asked hopeful for an honest answer.

"Of course." He sighed. He then reached his hand to behind the seat to grab my hand for comfort. "It's just, what Seth is going through is something I understand entirely. We need to give him time to come to his terms before he can really be around any of us."

"Is it bad?"

"It really depends on how he feels about it." He replied honestly. "It's not our place to say or judge on anything."

"You're right." I sighed once again staring out the window while Brody still slept. "Just remind him that I'm here for him if he needs someone to talk to."

"I will."

Moments later we were at my grandparent's house. Everyone had already arrived including my parents and my grandpa Charlie and grandma Sue. Though I didn't think it was a big deal, but it was another excuse for grandma Esme to cook one of her tasty meals. We wouldn't hear the results for about a week, so we had time before we were either amused, or in some way proven that we were living some fantasy.

I didn't say much throughout the entire visit other than converse with my mother and grandma Sue. Of course had been the center of the attention, and I couldn't blame the little guy. I was beginning to love him like he was my own, and as much as I thought about the results, whether he be or not, I would still consider him mine and Jakes. I really couldn't see it any other way, which is why I've been worrying for the past couple days.

I didn't want my son exposed to the supernatural world just yet. Yet I was afraid that the unknown being was after something, and I dreaded that it might be just him. Brody was just a baby; I would have to do everything to protect him. We all would, I knew that for a fact. I think this is what bothered most of the pack, especially the fathers, now their families could be in danger and not just their imprints. Whatever it was, we needed to get rid of it, and fast.

"Are you okay hon?" Aunt Rose asked as she sat next to me. Brody was still inside with his grandparents.

"Yeah squirt? You haven't really said anything?" Uncle Emmett added as he sat on the other side of me.

"I'm fine," I replied, "just have a lot on my mind."

"Spill kid," Uncle Emmett demanded.

"Your uncles right Seb, were here to listen." Aunt Rose rubbed my shoulder.

"I'm just feeling a little disconnected."

"Disconnected?" They asked in unison.

"Yeah," I sighed, looking back inside at the happy group inside. "Lately, everything I've been wanting to make sense; hasn't. For starters, the day I became human was the day I thought I lost all my abilities, but lately I've been picking up on my father's and aunt Alice's abilities. I though my days of absorbing any abilities were far lost. It's not that I don't want them, but I'm beginning to think that may be a part of me still isn't who I say I am."

"You see this," Aunt Rose placed her hand on my chest, "you feel this?" I nodded unsure, "this is your heart beating. It's all you honey. You have to remember that before your father or your aunt had changed, they had their abilities, it's just now it's intensified. It especially becomes stronger when we're around the shape-shifters. Jacob could be the reason your abilities are awakening once again."

"Your aunt's right Seb," Uncle Emmett added, "I think we were the only ones who really knew you weren't losing them. It's as if your body needs readjustments before it reawakens. In time, I believe you'll be the same Sebastian we had always known, and maybe being around me will help you pull out a couple trees to prove it."

We all laughed in unison.

"Well there's the whole thing with Brody now." I looked back inside to see Jacob holding the little guy as everyone surrounded him. "The moment he came into our lives, I've felt the urge to protect him more than anything, to love him and raise him as my own, and at times, it almost feels as if he really is mine, and Jake's. I can't explain it, but it's as if my heart is telling me that I'm not supposed to let anyone take him from me."

"No one will." Aunt Rose said.

"But someone is lurking around here without a trace, who's to say that they're not here to harm me or my family?" I began to choke on my words, "it makes me wonder if someone knows that I'm human and weak again. With all the great things happening, I'm afraid that something bad is around the corner. What if that bad thing is the one thing that none of us can seem to keep track of."

"You have to believe in that the pack and us will always be there to protect you and your family when needed." Uncle Emmett said, "not only is your son a miracle child Seb, you're forgetting that you are too. I'd fight armies and I know your aunt will just to keep you both safe. And something tells me that the man inside holding your son will do anything to make sure that the both of you go untouched. He's the alpha to a pack of horse-like wolves that can take anything out –well except me- but that's beside the contrary." Of course he laughed at his own joke. "You're forgetting that you have a family of vampires and wolves that will protect you and Brody."

"I know that," I paused, "but what is it I can do now. I only have my abilities to go upon now, but that could take years for me to do."

"I doubt it." Uncle Emmett said. "I bet you anything that if you tap into the one thing that triggered it, you can build up the potential to fight equally with us. Have you tried any of it with Jake around?"

"Haven't had the time really." I shrugged.

"Well now you do." He said as he held his hand out, "get up, we're going to try and see if you can toss me around a bit."

"But you could hurt him." Aunt Rose intervened.

"No I won't." Uncle Emmett smirked, "Seb has been the only one to take me on, I have no doubt that he can rebuild what he had." He walked a couple feet opposite of before standing across from me, "now Sebastian, I want you to come at me fully with all of your strength, but before you do, tap into the one thing triggered it before. Whether it is anger or maybe the urge to protect someone close to you. Think about that first."

It was kind of hard to take uncle Emmett seriously, but for some reason he still believed in me. But they all had. It was as if they all hoped that I would gain back my abilities. But the thing was, I wasn't sure why. I didn't want to end up turning back into a hybrid, but that seemed far from the idea. As I stood in my spot watching my uncle pace in his spot, I kept thinking that maybe this was my battle this time. Not my parents, not my families, but mine. Whatever was coming, was coming for me.

Before I could give the go that I was ready, uncle Emmett had already had me on my back and tumbling to my side. I should have expected the speed, but he wanted me to tap into my strength. If it hadn't been for my word, Jacob would've attacked my uncle, it was actually dumb of us not to tell any of them what we were doing. They were ready to stop me, but aunt Rose began explaining as I retaliated with Jacob's anger channeling to me.

With little effort, or so it seemed, I picked up a rotten log and lifted it over my shoulders before crashing it over my uncle's shoulders, shattering it into tiny splinters.

With the dust blinding his visions I had already swooped down and grabbed his ankle before pulling up and pulling back, making the poor man do the splits before turning to give swift kick to his chest and shoving him back into the damp soil. It all happened within thirty seconds that everyone including me came to shock that uncle Emmett was preparing himself for round two.

I wasn't sure how I was capable of doing so, but I do remember the trigger. It was Jacob, but not only him, it seemed intensified with Brody in the picture. I knew they would need me just as much as I needed them, and before the crowd could interfere, uncle Emmett had already moved forward quick enough for me to go flying up in the air. I could see the worried expressions below me, and I knew that uncle Emmett would most likely catch me, but him knowing that I was supposed to be training, I turned my body as quick as I could to land on top of him, only for him to move and for me to land my feet at a crouched level.

I ran out of breath around this time before falling forward onto my hands and knees. Right away Jake was by my side asking me if I was okay and yelling at my uncle for being so careless.

"I'm fine Jake." I held onto him before he could react any further. "I just need to rebuild my strengths."

"Why are you guys doing this?" He demanded an answer.

"Seb's abilities are returning." Uncle Emmett replied with a shrug.

"I haven't told anyone because I didn't want to worry anyone." I weakly pulled myself up. "I knew you'd worry and I knew everyone would be getting suspicious again. But if I can protect Brody, that would be enough for me."

"What makes you think our son is in danger?" He asked upset.

"Because I can feel it Jake." I admitted regretfully. "None of us know what's going on lately, and I worry that something was left unfinished."

"But none of us know what the nomads are after." Aunt Alice stepped in. "I can only see them wander, but even the evidence is hardly there."

"Isn't it?" I argued, "When I picked up the vision too, it was of my grandparents house, where I used to live. They didn't touch a thing, and they could have harmed grandpa and grandma, but it seemed as if it was looking for something more. Why would it be standing guard near there when it seems it's trying to pick up some sort of trail."

"The scent always stops at the border." Jake informed. "There's trails left all over the forests, but they always stop at the borders. Somehow we always seem to miss it before we can come across it."

"It has never come across my visions lately." Aunt Alice admitted. "I don't think it's working alone. The only things to block my visions have been shape shifters, but it's as if it's accompanied with our kind. But it's never been heard of our kind working together. But it seems to be the only resolution."

"A hybrid?" Uncle Jasper chimed in, we all stared at him confused, "think about it, if we can't work together, who's to say that it isn't an entire different species?"

"Can it be possible for a vampire to inherit a shape shifter's gene too, or the opposite?" Nana Esme questioned grandpa.

"It has never been heard of." Grandpa stood puzzled. "It's always been known that both of our kinds are weak to each other's immune systems. We're poisonous to each other, if someone has found a way for this to happen, then that means that there is some monster out there that just might be almost indestructible."

"But who and why would someone create it?" I asked.

"Power." Grandpa shrugged. "The only one's I could think of that would do such a thing would be the Volturi, but they've already tested our abilities, I don't think they'd risk the chances for the armies."

"They already know what we're capable of." Uncle Emmett added.

"Maybe it's an experiment gone wrong?" Jake wondered.

"Even if so," Grandpa Carlisle continued, "I'm sure that no matter the circumstances would be, the individual would inform everyone of our kind. It would be dangerous to everyone if they hadn't."

"I guess further investigations are in play," I added. "I think it's best if I work with aunt Alice on picking up anything else. Which means I believe we should start we're it all began. With my help, we should be able to pick up on anything."

"The pack will continue to scan the perimeters." Jake informed.

"We'll continue to do our part." Grandpa Carlisle added.

"Good." I nodded and turned to my parents and Jake, "which means I need an agreement with this from the three of you." The three of them looked unsure, "I want my parents to watch over Brody along with those who are willing to."

"But that means they have to step on the reservation lands." Jake spoke unsure.

"I know Jake, but please hear me out." I turned to my fiancé, "my mother can hold a shield up on the perimeter while my father can pick up on any suspicious thoughts. I know they'd do anything to protect him."

"But what about you Sebastian," my father stepped in, "you're still human."

"Uncle Emmett and aunt Rose will stay close to me." I ensured, both of my aunt and uncle nodding in agreement, "and I'm sure that uncle Jasper will be near by to stand guard too."

"I'll be with him too." Jake promised, "as long as you and the pups of the pack promise to keep an eye on Brody, I'm sure that Seth will be willing to help as well."

"Then it's settled." I said, "preparations will be set for tonight and we'll begin our search with the pack on guard with grandpa Carlisle and nana Esme. I know it's asking a lot of the pack once again, but I'm sure they'd understand that I'm not only doing this for Brody, but all of the pack's children. It's my duty now to make sure that we're all protected just as much as it will be Jake's."

Thankfully the pack agreed with everything I had proposed, and I was finally beginning to understand my role as the alpha's mate. I hadn't noticed it until Jake had told me that I stood up to the plate. I practically ordered everyone in their positions, Paul and Jared were to lead each halves of the packs while Tyler would be with Jacob at all times, Seth would be with my parents watching over Brody. I didn't get why Jake insisted, but my suspicions were getting the best of me. But even saying it my head even had me skeptical.

I informed the pack that I would be with my aunt searching for any loopholes under the protection of my family. Once they discovered that my abilities were re-awakening, they wanted to make sure a wolf was nearby me to for healing abilities. I have actually tested that theory, but it made it official for Jacob and Tyler to stay close to me.

Right now, I was supposed to be making plans for my wedding. I'm supposed to marry my soul mate, and something always seems to come up. We did agree on something smaller for the occasion, but even that seem to be far from reality. One thing was for sure from here on out.

I'm not giving up until I find them.

A/N: Not really sure how you all will feel about what's going on, I hope you're all still with me. I have to say that I'm not a fan of the name Brody for the baby, but I couldn't hold of the story any longer by asking and making you all wait. So let's just pretend we're all okay with. I know most of you are probably wondering who the intruders are, and I'm sure that most of you wouldn't have never guessed. Anyways, the review count still applies; just know that the update will be delivered as promised. I would explain why I've been kind of slow on the updates, but I really don't want to end up explaining things about my life and reliving things I choose to forget. So just know that I'm still here.
