Disclaimer: I don't own Full Metal Alchemist, nor am I making money from writing this drabble...

Warnings/Notes/Rating: Warnings are for suicide, major character deaths, and very light incest insinuations between Ed and Al (nothing graphic). The ficlet is rated T, otherwise. It's a tragedy/angst ficlet. I couldn't see how else to write the drabble wars prompt. Basically Al didn't survive coming back through the Gate, and Ed refused to live on without him. I actually like this ficlet and would like to, at some point in the future, write a longer piece along the same lines as this one. I also listened to Beyoncé's song "Die With You" as I wrote this…

Saku's drabble wars prompt: Ed/Al- His body was just too far gone, too weak to continue on. In reality he was better at the Gate, at least then he was still alive.

Great sobs wracked Ed's frame as he held Al's emaciated, naked body in his shaking arms.

He'd brought Al back through the Gate. He'd succeeded in getting his baby brother's body back, but he failed to bring him back alive.

"Ed," Mustang murmured placing a gentle gloved hand on Ed's good shoulder.

The blonde haired man violently shrugged off the Colonel's touch, falling to his knees and clutching Al as close to his chest as he could…his tears drenching them both, his heart beyond repair. Ed closed his eyes and fluttered butterfly kisses all over Al's face, his cheeks, his neck, his lips…

I love you, Ed whispered to Al's lifeless body in his mind. But I'm coming, too. You're not leaving me here alone.

Ed screamed through his tears and his kisses. He screamed his pain, gently laying his brother down on the stone floor. He screamed his heartbreak as he transmuted a metal sword. He screamed until he plunged the blade through his stomach.

He quieted as fell on top of Al's body, his blood drenching them both, just as his tears had.

He thought he heard Mustang shouting for him, thought he heard countless footsteps pounding toward him. He thought he heard Winry weeping.

And he didn't give a damn. He clutched his baby brother tight slowly dying.

The only one he had ever lived for…the one he died for.

Because if he couldn't live with Al, then Ed chose not to live at all.
