Even though it just happened for the first time, Lanny now knew he hated tranquilizer darts. What he remembered from it was a huge head-ache which wouldn't leave him for a week after it had been used on him. Plus, the way he woke up wasn't exactly the best there was. He was laying on his side, the head-ache ever present, whispering voices in the background. As he gained consciousness every second, he felt more and learned more about his environment. His hands were bound together on his back, and his feet were bound, too. He was laying on a hard ground which could be rock or hardened mud, and there was something that didn't smell that good. And, counting out the whispering voices, it was completely quiet. And it was very hot where he was laying.

He turned on his other side, because the side he was laying on was hurting. The whispering voices stopped, and only when Lanny realized the voices had stopped talking, he focused on everything he would hear from now on.

"Are you sure he moved?" a painfully familiar voice said. Now Lanny knew Karell was here, he didn't even bother trying to wake up anymore. Anything would be better than those bullies, even jumping in Mount Spew.

"Yeah, I knew what I saw!" that was Teagan's voice. So whatever brought Lanny to wherever he was, it had Teagan and Karell too, and probably Rean and Vic as well. Those two wouldn't leave their houses without the two year younger Karell at their side. He'd open up his eyes sooner or later, so he decided to do it now and not to postpone it. And he really wanted to know where they brought.

As he opened his eyes, he saw four figures which were easily identified as his bullies. And he was now somewhere he had never been before in his life. It seemed like a cave with torches at the sides. There was only one way in, and that was at the other side of the big space. And it still was quite warm.

"I told you he was awake!" Teagan said, and they both got some nasty glares from Karell. Vic and Rean were having their own conversation and now Karell seemed to mad about him being wrong for once, Teagan and Lanny were left as the two who weren't talking.

"You have no idea where we are, haven't you?" Lanny asked, expecting none of them knew exactly where they were brought. However, Teagan nodded in response.

"I do know where we are. My dad and I always went here when he was still alive. We're in some cave in Mount Spew." Lanny's eyes widened. They crossed the entire island and were brought to the Mount Spew. Wow, if only they didn't make him jump in the mountain, he was just being sarcastic when he was thinking about that being better than being bullied. Because when he was bullied, he still would be alive.

Wait a second, Teagan's dad was dead? He had a dead father? Like, his father's dead? Wow, he didn't really see that coming. Lanny had always pictured Teagan living in a family in which all of his relatives were alive, and he hadn't even thought of the possibility a member of the Kalooka-Khan family would have died.

Lanny was just about to say something, when he was interrupted by a man's voice coming from the only entrance of this cave. "Ah! You're awake. Right on time." the voice said, and they all looked at the entrance. A tall muscular man came walking in, with short black curly hair and a small beard with mustache. But Lanny somehow only had eyes for the black boots he was wearing. So this is the guy who kidnapped us. After the man had spoken, none of them dared to say a word. They could only guess what the stranger thought the silence meant.

"I'm sorry, but for your own safety I had to tie you kids up. As much as I like children, I want to have a proper talk with you and it won't help if you run away… do you children even know who I am?" they shook their heads. Lanny had never seen this guy before, and the others probably never have seen him before, too. But that face wasn't one to forget quickly, it looked pretty dangerous.

"No, you haven't?" the man asked, "Okay, then. But I'm sure you've all heard about a man named Kermen Forned, am I right?" the man walked closer to them. The name didn't ring a bell by Vic (no surprise) nor Teagan and Lanny. But Rean's face paled as he heard the name of the man. And Karell also knew the man, but not as good as Rean apparently knew him. The youngest among them gasped.

"Wait, I remember! You're the guy who tried to kill King Kunu's sons and the rest of his family!" Lanny gulped as he heard Karell said this. This guy tried to, what now? The man, Kermen Forned, shook his head, an irritated look appearing on his face.

"Correction: I tried to kill king Kunu and his beloved wife and triplet, but I wouldn't dare harm his lovely sister and her family," Kermen sighed, "Don't you children learn anything at school? Teachers nowadays, keeping behind information… Now, the question I've been longing to ask you: which one of you is a cousin of the current kings?" Lanny looked around, and expected them to immediately push him forward to the madman, or at least tell them it was him the man wanted, but they didn't even move. He thanked them in silence – maybe these guys did have hearts after all. Or they were just afraid of Mr. Forned. Kermen patiently waited, until he got bored and started to talk again.

"Okay, then I have a next question for you: would you please tell me your names?" The five got startled looks on their faces, "Oh, I wouldn't dare to search you once you're allowed to leave, but so we can address each other correctly. So, my name's Kermen, and what's yours?" Now, none of them hesitated. And one by one told them their names. Apparently Vic was just short for Victor, and Kermen's attention was caught when the third person told the madman his name.

"Yours is Rean, huh?" For this moment, Kermen was more interested in Rean than the actual prince. Probably because the madman still hadn't heard what the names were of Teagan and Lanny. As Kermen came closer and stopped right in front of Rean, the boy started to panic. To Lanny, it was kind of weird to see a panicked Rean for the first time in his life. What was up with them. Suddenly, Kermen started to laugh.

"Well, long time no see, boy!" The madman said enthusiastically, "I haven't seen you since you were a baby. And can I say you look exactly like your father when he was just as old as you. As if I'm looking in a mirror!" Now Rean got the full attention from everyone in the cave. His face couldn't possiby get any paler now he was receiving strange looks from everyone, including Lanny. The madman had a son? Wait, he was married?

"I don't get it," Vic said, "What's he talking about? I thought you lived on the streets since your parents got sent to the dungeon." Okay, what Vic said was kind of Lanny's fault, but they were thieves and they needed to be punished, thanks to Mason. With this question, Vic surprised the three others. He wasn't the type to ask questions or to know what was going on immediately. Rean didn't dare to face any of them.

"I'm adopted…" Rean muttered, and Kermen nodded in response. Rean's adopted? Wow, the things I learn when in peril. Kermen went to sit on his knees to get to the same eye-height of the young boy that was his son.

"Adopted? Off course you're adopted, the blood in your veins is way too blue for you to be a peasant." And again, Kermen and Rean were getting weird looks. Kermen sighed. "You guys just can't figure it out, huh? This guy, my son, is a royal!" Now Lanny was close to passing out. Rean was a royal? No, impossible? But he did always wonder why Rean and he himself shared so much resemblance on many points. Lanny has always known his mother was the sister to the king and knew his last name was hers. And if Rean was royal, and this Kermen Forned was Rean's dad, than…

Oh no! That dude can't be my dad! Lanny panicked. Then, Kermen turned his attention to the two other boys he didn't know the name off. "Okay, I have yet to learn your names, so please tell me," and Lanny and Teagan did, "Thanks, Teagan and Lanny." Kermen backed away a few steps, studying the five boys, before coming to the conclusion about five minutes after he learned the names of the two most powerful boys of Kinkow (excluding the Kings).

"I've made a decision. You three" He pointed at Rean, Vic and Karell, "will come with me. And if one of you tries to get away, I'll find and kill you. Or you'll fall in the lava. Your choice. And you two," he now turned to Teagan and Lanny, "I'm going to get you whenever I need you. I need those three more than I would need you two. But the same goes for you: you leave, I kill you." He looked at the boys, one by one, eyeing all of them. "Have I made myself clear."

The boys nodded. Kermen grabbed a knife from in his pocket and released Vic, Karell and Rean from their bonds, while Lanny and Teagan were kept in their restraints. The three followed Kermen against their will. None of the five knew what was happening to them, if anyone would ever miss them. At least Lanny knew nobody would miss him.

The silence returned until Teagan wanted to talk to Lanny.
