Chapter 25: Rehearsal

He sat.

For the proximity the bed had towards the wall, he sat real close.

Black and red stripes staining his strong limbs, ebony fur darker than the void between life and death, oh he was a breath-taking man, Lancelot was. Crimson eyes glistening with other-worldly beauty lightened with a universal sentiment pulsating his aura like no other. They were killing in their own pathological way.

If that made sense.

The life he could've lived, the life he was living, they were the same and one. The future was what he could've done, ultimately living it out each new day. So, there was no point dulling over why. Simply why hadn't life played out a different way?

Now, the Ultimate Lifeform, greatest Knight of the Round Table wasn't complaining about his life. He just wanted to know why. Why had he been so blessed to be gifted with every hardship he had ever gone through? Why him? All the pained tears that caressed his very soul, tampering on the near end of tantalizing it, were something he told himself to cherish. From selfish bliss to tranquilized agony, each accentuated emotion piled on the sagacious knight's heart.

After days of loathing, hating, crying, groaning, lying, and screaming, Lancelot had finally broken his thoughts. Filled with so much pain, he somehow managed to denigrate the tenuous barrier that kept him from temperance. He filled his being with the sweet acerbic sensation of liquor. It was funny really.

Who would've thought, huh?

But he didn't cry about merely because no one else did. Lancelot had been reduced to a child in a more provoking way.

If no one got upset, he didn't.

If no one worried, he didn't.

If no one gave a damn, he didn't.

And if no one was hurting, he sure as hell wasn't going to either.

So as anyone could imagine, he plundered himself of his remaining sanity, and indulged in the vile liquid. And for as long as that lasted, Lancelot desperately tried to cling on to anything from his past resilient being. Unfortunately his camaraderie was ultimately mercurial, along with everything else. Even the sour feelings, he could no longer arcane.

His ultraviolet life had been hazed and reduced to blindness, only seeing the endless darkness that was darker than any shade of black he'd ever saw.

Right there and then, he decided he wasn't living like this.

That was fucking crazy.

As if released from earthy chains, their restraints crumbling to his feet, Lancelot stood mighty and tall, and for the next upcoming weeks, the spell had seemingly been lifted. Sober as can be, he prayed, trained, ate, bathed, slept, and stared.

He stared so hard at the wall, so quixotically.

On the wall, guns and roses decorated it. There were so many guns, it almost consumed him, eating him from the inside, as he suspected. They shot their bullets, grazing the raw flesh upon his body, covering the insecurities and dark adventures of his past. Surprisingly, there wasn't a flinch giving. A cringe did not appear anywhere. Abandonment and solitude had been something he'd experienced too many times to cause a whimper. No matter, he'd always used to it. No, actually, it was tolerable for the roses he had watered despite being a main target for each bullet sprouted brilliantly. Its delicious red-wine blood oozed from each petal, bathing him in their comforting embrace. Lancelot was grateful for each and every rose he planted. He breathed into them, letting all their thorns prick his body, giving the ebon hedgehog his dosage of pain. Such sweet, agonizing, pain he became addicted to. Pain he wouldn't trade for anything. Paying no attention to reality, this had appeared to give up on him as he did it, the slow deaths of each rose passed by without a notice. The young flowers withered one by one, leaving him silently in his wake. As his crimson eyes fluttered open from, opening his soul, he finally became aware of the one rose he cradled in his arms. It was so beautiful, causing dry tears to burn his being. He treasured this one so much, swearing to keep it safe and healthy, never letting it go. Every day he made sure to water it, give it sunlight, and feeding the gorgeous flower with untamed love. But somehow–maybe it was a rough day–Lancelot had forgotten about it. So used to its light, he had taken it for granted.

Long story short, it died.

He was left alone, seedless, and flowerless. Suddenly, the guns that shot at him seemed amplified in sound and number. Lancelot was bloodied, broken, and bruised yet he smiled. Perfect white teeth, displayed out in the open air. Happiness radiated powerfully from it, shining through the darkness that surrounded his body. And with that, he walked through the battle ground.

No matter how messed up he was-life was-he had learned to cherish each rose he had ever had. Maybe one day he'd have seeds again, or maybe, by some miracle, they'd rejuvenate to their youth, luminously unblemished.

Lancelot blinked slowly. His hands lightly grabbed the edge of the cotton covered mattress. The handsome knight was clothed in nothing but black socks and white gloves. Oddly enough, he didn't feel any shame in being naked (as much as he could be). No, he was just really…

Really…

Everything mixed in one. That's what he was.

But simply enough, Lancelot didn't mind. For the first time in forever, he was very grateful for feeling things that made his brain want to explode. Yeah, he really was.

In the end, he really was pleased with what he's been through.

Those roses were all he could ever ask for in the first place.

Today was the last day both hedgehogs would be spouseless, fiancés, single, however you put it, it was all the same. The next day, by this time of night, the two hedgehogs, one a king, one the daughter of a knight, would be married, bonded by the rings they were to put on their ring fingers. So, it was only tradition that today, the two hedgehogs rehearse the special event many were itching to see come. It appeared as if the citizens themselves were more excited about the wedding more than the two main participants.

And with just less then a day left to make sure everything was set, the castle was as busy as ever. Many maids and butlers scurried around the royal grounds, carrying trays, silverware, dining utensils, etc. They shouted commands, questioning what went wear and so on. Sonic and Elizabeth were asked many times if the setting arrangements were up to their expectations and each time they nodded with satisfaction, it seemed like something was wrong and they would redo everything. The color of the napkins had to match the color of the drapes. The way each napkin was folded had to be in synch with the folds of the table cloths. The silverware must be placed two inches from the plate, not a centimeter off in fear of clatter during the wedding. The lighting must be perfect so that the king and future queen could 'glow beautifully' according to an excited maid. She, and many others, continued to drone on about how they would need to run a check on the dresses and suits, making sure they fit everyone despite the fact they had done this earlier today, but it was always good to double check.

Before this mess started, here we head back to the morning of this jam-packed day.

The morning light shined gloriously through the large curtains, partly separated from their set. The king's room was bright with heavenly warm light, bathing two hedgehogs on a bed made for a king.

Literally.

Knowing full and well, the night before would be their last night getting to actually communicate with each other, Sonic and Elizabeth had had a rather long talk. Their conversation wasn't anything serious, really. All they did was talk about past experiences, motives, what they would like to see happen in the future, their dreams, you know, the usual. While the azure king laid on his back, an arm behind his head, eyes closed, Elizabeth, also on her back, simply folded her hands on her stomach. As the cerulean hedgehog's story of the time he had first learned to yield a sword, began to tune out, the ebon teen stared intensely at the ceiling wall. Her lavender orbs were calm, cool, and collected as the rest of her facial features were straight, borderline stoic. Many things ran inside of that pretty little head of hers. So many things, she was almost sure her brain had reached its capacity. The things that crossed her mind dealing with her future confused the older teen.

When she did become official queen, what were her responsibilities? What if she screwed up? When the wedding was done and over with, what would happen after that? There was sure to be a honeymoon, but she wasn't ready. She was far from it in fact. Would her father attend the service? Would she be forced to come in contact with him? What was he doing now? Did he change? What would become of Tyrone? Would she see him again? What if sonic found out? What if at the wedding, she couldn't hold it back in, and she blurted out her true feelings? That was sure to cause a catastrophe.

No.

No I can't think about this. Not right now. I just can deal with this.

Tears began to burn her eyes. Overwhelmed with her buzzing mind, Elizabeth rolled on her side, scooting closer to the hedgehog next to her. When Sonic was in the middle of a sentence, he hummed in confusion as two arms encircled his waist. He blinked as he saw Elizabeth bury her head in his chest, yawing.

"Elizabeth, if you've decided you want to retire, you have to let me go so I can leave," he chuckled.

The girl paid no attention to his words, only enjoying the warmth his body gave her. Yes, Sonic had given her his room to sleep in while he went and slept in a different room until they were married. After one incident, her didn't want another one happening again. Elizabeth almost begged him to let her stay in different room, after all, this was his room, but he would have none of it. She was, though awful to say, slightly relived that they were staying in different rooms. But this time, this time Elizabeth wanted him to stay. She really didn't want to be alone. Not at a time like this.

"Please stay here for the night," she whispered.

Sonic's eyes almost popped from their sockets. He body jerked, which Elizabeth seemed to ignore. Was he hearing her correctly? "E-Elizabeth, but it's sinful to share the room with your fiancé until marriage is finalized, and the last time we broke that rule, you wouldn't even look at me for days because of what happened."

She internally winced at the fact, but shrugged outwardly. The king could only gape before he gave up. He wasn't going to say no, but he really didn't want to do anything that makes her uncomfortable. Nevertheless, he stayed and for the rest of the night, the two didn't talk. They just laid there cherishing the fact that this was the last night they would lay together as singles.

So then came morning and the first up was Elizabeth. She was trapped in his embrace, thin arms strongly around her slim waist. Sonic curled towards her, making their bodies press gently together, a cocoon formed while they slept. Elizabeth would admit to herself that she felt safe and protected in his arms, leading her to blush as she realized how close they were. Soon though, the blush reduced to a light red, as she took the time to just stare at the king.

Undeniably, King Arthur was a very handsome hedgehog. His naturally charming charisma only added to his gorgeous persona; now she understood why he swooned so many women. She studied him with observing eyes, absorbing each and every detailed of this blue king's striking featured. Her naked hand ran down from his temple to his chin, repeating the process many times. Elizabeth's expression stayed vacant, blanketing any emotion she felt inside her person. Even in the older azure hedgehog's sleep, he appeared to be so…so happy. Although his face was calm with peace, his plump lips straight, she didn't know how, but he radiated happiness, as if there was nothing in the world to worry about. And she knew that was a load of baloney. After spending an extensive amount of time with her future spouse, Elizabeth had learned the few things she knew about being a ruler were completely and utterly wrong. None of it was true. No, King Arthur really had his work cut out for him. There were so many responsibilities dumped onto his shoulders, Elizabeth understood why those kings in all the stories went mad. The work they had to withstand was just so much, no one could function with such a burden.

But then there was Sonic.

This blue hedgehog acted like being a king was a breeze. He would walk around like he was just another civilian, strolling around, doing some sightseeing. It wasn't that he didn't take the responsibility seriously, but he didn't get too uptight about it. If things didn't work out well, he shrugged and let it go, helping as much as he could. He never broke down about it. He never blamed anyone else for his mistakes. Never had the blue king gotten upset over something that couldn't be controlled. He just….just let it go.

And that was amazing.

Sonic began to stir. A small moan came from the depths of his throat as his head moved forward. Elizabeth found a small smile on her muzzle as he nuzzled into the cleft of her neck. Sonic sighed deeply, moaning tiredly. "Good morning, Sonic," she giggled. His response was a written off groan. He then closed any space between them and wrapped his arms tightly around the smaller hedgehog. Elizabeth yelped in surprise, blinking as she could feel the smile on her neck. She shivered internally at the feeling, still not use to the closeness of the other.

"Why'd you stop?"

"What?"

The azure groaned again, a bit annoyed that he had to continue talking. In the morning, he wasn't really the one to talk considering how mornings were the times he was sort of moody. "You were doing somethin' with your hand on my face and why'd you stop?"

Elizabeth blushed. Her eyes widened, wildly looking side to side, embarrassed. Had he known that she was staring at him the entire time? Oh no. "Y-You were awake?"

He nodded.

The dark hedgehog bit back a small cry of embarrassment. Her lavender irises turned a light fuchsia, almost pink. Elizabeth began to stutter, weird sounds escaping her numb lips, as she tried to explain herself. Sonic only chuckled at her flustered sounds. He pulled from her neck and raised a tantalizing brow causing her to blush even more. The dark teen frowned at him and playfully hit his shoulder. "Ow," he chuckled, winking.

Elizabeth scoffed as she sat up only to be pulled down. Her eyes widened in question. Sonic smiled gently bringing his hand to her temple, pushing back any strands away from her face. "No, don't go yet," he said lowly, "Today will be very busy. We might as well enjoy what we can."

She blinked and then nodded.

Scooting herself closer to him, Elizabeth indulged herself in his warmth. The blue hedgehog sighed with content as the two wrapped themselves within their embrace. Sonic kissed the top of her head, silently thanking her for just being her; for being someone he could hold without worrying; without having to be responsible for once; for just being able to hold her with tranquility. That was so much more he could've ever hoped for. Just as the azure king began to doze off, Elizabeth looked up at him.

"Sonic," she whispered.

Opening his eyes, emeralds moved down her graceful face. He instantly smiled a lazy one. "Yes Elizabeth."

"How do you do it?"

He blinked, quickly alert all of sudden. He hummed for her to go on.

"How do you handle the responsibility of being a king so easily?" she asked bringing her fingers to his cheek, "You have to make sure the economy is set on a sturdy foundation, while keeping the land safe. When there is a conflict you are the one guiding the knights and knaves. You have to make sure the citizens are well and healthy. Even when there is a trial, you have the final say and what if you're wrong? What if you send a guilty man to prison or to be executed? Ho-How do you handle such a burden? How do you do it?"

Well this was odd. Sonic could feel his mind stumped. Well he could definitely say no one had ever asked him such a question. He hadn't even thought about it that much. Really, he didn't feel as if he had been overwhelmed. Maybe at times, yes, but not too often. In fact, he had thought he had the most unentertaining job in the world. But here he was with a young girl telling him how much he had to do and implying that he must've been overwhelmed at some point. But before he could answer, he saw her eyes glisten with contained tears. Sonic began to worry. His expression flickered for a moment, a frown dashing over his features, before an encouraging smile graced his lips.

"Elizabeth, if I may ask, what brought you to ask this? What are you worrying about?"

Said hedgehog looked down at the king's peach chest. Her folded over her beating heart in thought. How was she to word this without sounding ungrateful? Elizabeth's eyes flickered over his chest in thought before her lips began to move. "I-I'm a bit….well, nervous."

"About?"

She bit her lip, looking up timidly. "About being queen," she admitted finally. Elizabeth was more so expecting a heavy weight to be lifted off her chest and it was quite a disappointment when the load did not lessen at all. Nope. In fact, there might've been five more pounds added on. The dark teen peered into emerald orbs, hoping, praying, even begging, for any type of positive response. She knew worrying about this would seem frivolous for the mighty blue hedgehog, but she needed to tell someone. There were simply too many things she had on her mind, buzzing around like agitated bees and weighing don her thoughts and feelings. Elizabeth wanted to lessen her burden, even if it was something as little as this. Sharing something that had been on her heart for awhile with the cobalt king appeared to be good from retrospect.

Sonic blinked, surprised. His eyes, which were once glazed with sleep, were now clear and bright as ever. As he continued to blink, his eyes flickering from wonder to confusion, Elizabeth chewed the inside of her mouth, waiting anxiously for an answer. Just when she was about to break the skin Sonic broke out in a wide grin. The ebon hedgehog hummed, startled from the stretchy smile on the peach muzzle. Soon, the king began to snicker tantalizingly. Elizabeth instantly frowned upon being laughed at. When she called out his name warningly, she saw he began to laugh. Fuming, she sat up and began to get out of the bed, grunting with annoyance. Sonic, still chuckling, propped himself on his elbows and grabbed the girl's elbow. He pulled her down despite her grumpy protests. He shook his head and rolled on top of her, nuzzling his head into her chest causing Elizabeth to groan louder in irritation. She frowned and looked down at him with comical anger.

"What are you doing?" she snapped.

"Hugging my queen," Sonic said with an obvious tone, muffled, "Is there a problem?"

Elizabeth bit back a snarl from the cocky remark. She closed her eyes, trying to calm herself. Why had he broken the peaceful moment between them? She exhaled sharply feeling that her arms were bounded tight against her sides by his arms and her legs weighed down by his body.

"If you do not release, there soon will be."

Sonic kissed the center of her chest with a peck. "I like it when you get angry. I find it rather attractive," he teased, winking at her.

Elizabeth's entire body flushed, her cheeks lighting up with a crimson tint. Before she could hold back the remark, she blurted out, "Baka!"

He grinned cockily making her blood boil. "I'm pretty sure that means 'idiot'."

Yeah, you would know.

For a moment, Elizabeth thought about how nice it would be to wipe that smug grin off his face. Her eyes narrowed as his became half-lidded. Suddenly, she sighed, giving up. The dark teen knew she would get nowhere if she continued this. So, being the bigger person she had to be, Elizabeth looked away, brows furrowed together. "Sonic, please," she lowly said.

As much as he would've loved to continue to push the girl's buttons, the azure king hummed with understanding. His overconfident attitude disappeared before her eyes, replaced with an encouraging smile. He still laid upon the girl, his chin in his hand while his elbow was propped on the mattress. His smile then turned lazy as his eyes gazed over her, glazed with love. Elizabeth blushed at the look, feeling the need to turn her head once more.

"You will make a phenomenal queen, love," Sonic chuckled.

She sighed discouragingly. "But I don't even know how to rule over people. I've never been told to watch over more than two people. I don't know how to face conflict as big as war!? What if I make a mistake? What if the citizens end up hating me? I don't know if I can handle the pressure."

"Do you know how I know you'll be an outstanding queen?"

She shook her head, keeping her eyes from rolling with dismissal.

"Well for one, you're a very amazing woman, not that I need to remind you," he chuckled. When her mouth twitched, refraining from snapping at him, the blue hedgehog crawled upward. "And you obviously don't see what I see."

"And what is that?" she mumbled.

"I see a strong, brave, courageous woman who's compassionate about anything she sets her mind to. She stands firmly on what she believes is right, no matter what. Although critical, she knows how to address the wrongful doings of others without sounding too harsh, but getting the message across at the same time." He took her chin in his hand moving her head to face him. Sonic stared into her lavender irises with love. "Her faith is something admirable to all. Even when it means putting others before herself, she is willing to do anything she can to help. This woman I see worries constantly about the well being of others, fearing that anything she might do might harm them. And that is something I'm astounded by." His forehead connected with hers, their eyes closed with peace. Sonic opened his eyes a bit, happy to see her smile with relief. "And need I remind her of her beauty everyone falls in love with; especially a blue hedgehog that has fallen head over heels for this special woman."

Without warning, he softly kissed her. It was quick, but meaningful. Elizabeth exhaled with satisfaction. Her cheeks were bright with red, but she didn't care at the moment as she could feel tears burn her eyes. The midnight furred hedgehog let out a watery laugh, putting her hands on his shoulders. She sniffed, biting her lip as he chuckled at her bashfulness. Her eyes roamed around the room, trying desperately to blink away the tears. Sonic nuzzled her cheek, kissing it repeatedly. "Although, on the downside, you do worry quite a bit over petty little things," he added with a peck.

"Oh stop it," she sniffed, rolling her eyes.

When everything seemed set for the wedding, they ran through it, discussed where the flowers would go, arranged the chairs and tables, set up the after party, prepared the gowns and suits, and everything else, there was a banquet held. Of course, it was in honor of the king and future queen's wedding. Being said, it was rather grand. In the dining hall were friends and many Mobians of high places. Some were kings and queens of other lands, passing by and giving the two younger hedgehogs their blessings and pleasant views of the wedding taking place tomorrow. Aside from that, nothing exciting really happened. Others ate, drank, and indulged themselves in conversation with one another. Nothing extraordinary.

Sonic and Elizabeth both stuck by each other throughout the banquet and it wasn't really because of their undying love for each other (which was sort of one-sided according to Elizabeth). It was more of just trying to help each other through the countless questions they were asked. The two hedgehogs seemed to have a knack for saving the other from discomfiture when the time came. The mutual agreement to be connected by the hip begun when the azure hedgehog was suddenly questioned by a fellow purple hedgehog Sonic had met during a battle a while ago. The two kept in touch from time to time and enjoyed one another's company. Along with that, there was definitely teasing included in the relationship.

The cobalt king had spotted Elizabeth while roaming around. As he headed towards her, he was stopped by the purple hedgehog. Sonic stepped back from surprise as he almost collided with the other. He took in the hedgehog. He had for quills in the back, the top two were curved upwards while the other two on the bottom hung long and loose. By his peach muzzle, one on each side, the two quills curved inward, almost hugging his cheeks. He wore a white jacket with a blue sash across his chest. Sonic's brow arched as he noticed a taunting expression on the other's face.

With a cheeky grin and brows raise, the mauve hedgehog said, "So Arthur."

Sonic chuckled nervously. "Uh…Sage?"

Sage's yellow eyes were half lidded making the blue king blink. Sage moved closer, his eyebrows wiggling. "I see you've finally found yourself a damsel, a very pretty one at that," he said with a thick British accent.

"Uuuhhh…hehe, yeah?" he uncertainly replied.

"So what do you plan to do on her on your honeymoon?"

At this Sonic's face flared with embarrassment. He blushed at the blunt statement, chocking on the air inside his throat. "W-what!?" he exclaimed, stuttering.

Sage's grin only grew at the flustered hedgehog. He chuckled tauntingly as he continued to wiggle his dark brows. "Don't tell me you haven't thought about it, especially with a girl like her?"

Sonic shook his hands furiously, his blush growing by the second. "I-I haven-"

"Do you need ideas? I could always get the other guys to help you?" he continued even as Sonic's face was emerged in red, "I could tell the maids to sneak clothing that may appeal to you. Do you know there are these toys-"

The blue hedgehog's eyes widened to the size of dinner plates.

"T-toys!?"

Before Sage could say anymore to the flat out embarrassed hedgehog, with seemingly perfect timing, Elizabeth grabbed a hold of Sonic's arm, hugging it. She brilliantly smiled and tilted her head to the side. "Arthur, there's something I would like to show you. It's about the placement of the-oh! Why hello there!" she cheerily said, noticing the purple hedgehog. Elizabeth grabbed her dress and bowed respectfully. "Forgive me for interrupting. I didn't realize there was a conversation taking place."

Sage returned the bow, handsomely smirking. He grabbed the girl's hand, softly kissing the top of it. "No, no, there's no harm done, my future queen."

Elizabeth blushed, giggling. "You must be Sage," he nodded, "Sonic has said many good things about you. I hear you're quite the charmer, but he certainly didn't tell me how handsome you were."

The dark lavender male blinked, a goofy smile stretching his muzzle. Sage's eyes began to droop lazily, as the compliment sank in. To be told how handsome he was by such an alluring girl was definitely an honor, no less pleasing. "It is quite a nobility to be complimented by such a dazzling young woman yourself," he gently took hold of both her hands, hearts in his eyes, catching the girl by surprise, "Will you marry me?"

"Ok, ok," Sonic cut in, a vein clear on his forehead. He certainly did not appreciate having his fiancée being asked for her hand in marriage. He walked through their hands, separating them. The azure king frowned at his heart-eyed friend and turned him around, pushing him off. "Go charm someone who isn't taken, alright?"

He glared at the back of the hedgehog who stumbled away. His emerald orbs soon flickered to Elizabeth as she snickered, trying to hold in her laughs. Sonic's frowned deepened for a second before he smiled, sighing hopelessly. With his hands on his hips he said, "Thank you for the save, but you didn't have to go that far, you know?"

Elizabeth smirked as Sonic encircled his arms around her. "Jealous, are we?" He frowned once again, more so pouting. He looked away, a light blush on his cheeks. "You never call me handsome," grumbled.

The girl smiled with humor. She placed her finger on his nose causing him to hum in question. "I didn't think I needed to tell you, my king," she said.

Sonic looked at her blankly before letting his trademark smile grace his peach lips. He chuckled cockily, rubbing his nose. "Well, you got me there."

Elizabeth rolled her eyes.

Soon after that, as mentioned before, they were inseparable for awhile. The many bystanders would sometimes stop and admire the two from afar before turning away and going about their business. Meanwhile, the royal couple was talking with a king and queen from another land. A yellow female squirrel suddenly hurried towards the ebon teenager. She skidded to a stop directly beside the dark hedgehog, causing the four to turn their attention to her.

"I am dearly sorry for interrupting, my lords," she apologized while bowing, but her attention turned to Elizabeth. Her brown eyes glistened with worry as she whispered, "But my lady, it is five minutes till midnight." At first, the purple striped female blankly blinked at the older maid before a spark of realization lit her eyes. Before anyone could say or do anything, Elizabeth took off like a firecracker. She lifted her dress as to not trip and ran as fast as her legs could carry her. Sonic stood there for a moment wondering what just happened before excusing himself and chasing after.

"Elizabeth!"

Said hedgehog didn't hear her name, and even if she did, she seemed to ignore it. Elizabeth looked around for the fastest way possible to get to Sonic's room. She needed to get there. Taking a pause to find a clear path, she spotted one and ran. Despite the turn of heads and the questions blocking her path, the ebony female simply muttered excuses and dismissed the topic quickly, not wanting to waste time. She did stop for a second, bumping into Sage. The purple hedgehog asked, "My lady, where are you-"

"You are rather dashing, but I must go," she exclaimed behind her as she continued her way, "But please, do not be a stranger."

He sighed dreamily. "I won't," he blinked slowly.

Sonic then ran up to him not too long after. "Sage, have you seen Elizabeth? Where did she go?" The hedgehog dazedly pointed in the directions he went and Sonic took off like a bullet. He sighed again, happily.

"She said I was dashing…"

"Elizabeth! Where are you going!?" the azure hedgehog shouted, seeing ebony quills fly behind the girl.

"N-Nowhere!" she called back.

Sonic cursed. He would've easily just sped ahead and picked her up off her feet, demanding answers, but there were too many people around. Even as they got to the stairs and hallway, there were others roaming around aimlessly. So, with an irritated grunt, he continued to go as fast as he could without raising suspicion, but he did have to admit, this girl was fast.

"Must've got it from her father," he mumbled.

Up the stairs the future queen went, picking up her feet at startling speeds. Elizabeth looked over her shoulder to see that Sonic had picked up speed, catching up to her. She made a noise in surprise as his emerald orbs caught her lavender ones. They glittered with questioning glare. Elizabeth blinked before looking ahead in determination. She saw the door to Sonic's room, smiling in slight relief. She was just about to open it before a hand strongly gripped her forearm. Elizabeth didn't need to look back to know she was caught. She panted, groaning. I don't have time for this.

Sonic struggled to keep a hold of her as she squirmed in his grip. "Elizabeth, if something is wrong, you don't have to run off every time," he said, annoyed. Elizabeth panted, and stopped her struggling for a moment.

"I'm sorry about this," she mumbled.

"Huh?"

With all her might, Elizabeth pushed Sonic back. He let go of her, stumbling back, yelping in surprise. The young girl took her chance and ran straight into the room before Sonic could reach out for her again. She slammed the door shut just as the blue hedgehog was about to grab her. He slammed his fist on the door, teeth gritted in irritation.

"Elizabeth, you know there are other ways of getting in that room," he nearly shouted.

"Please don't."

"Then tell me why you ran off, again," he put an emphasis on the word.

He could hear her giggle. Sonic let his large hands rest on the door as he leaned in, waiting for answer.

"It's midnight," she said just as the bells rung as the clock struck twelve.

He made a face. "And?" he said with more of an attitude than he intended.

"The groom cannot see the bride before their wedding on the wedding day, otherwise an unhappy marriage is in store."

He swore, one of these days, this woman would be the end of him. The cobalt king blinked before het let loose a chuckle. Sonic shook his head, a hopeless smile on his peach muzzle; he laid his back on the door. Elizabeth, on the other side, laughed quietly herself. Here she had him all worried about something he didn't even think of as important enough to give him a heart attack. She laid her back on the door.

"You had me worried for nothing," Sonic started.

"It wasn't 'nothing'. I am just trying to ensure the happiness of our marriage," Elizabeth said with an it's-so-obvious tone.

"Everyone knows that's simply just a myth."

Elizabeth grunted. "Myth or not, I'm not taking any chances." She looked up. "But I do apologize for taking off like that. In hindsight, it would've been less stressful if I would've just told you before. But on the other hand, I've got to keep things interesting, right?"

He smiled. "I knew there was a reason why I chose to marry you." They both shared a laugh. The two were then submerged in silence, both never finding it awkward. It wasn't until later when Sonic broke the ice that Elizabeth realized they both sat down. "So today's the day, huh?"

"I do believe so," she replied, dazed.

He hummed in acknowledgement. So today was the day that her, King Arthur, would be married to Elizabeth Ann du Lac. He would no longer be alone to rule. No. Now he would have someone by his side, looking over the land with him. He would come to bed with someone there waiting for him, someone he loved and loved him back. Whenever tough times arised from slumber, he no longer had to carry that burden alone. Never again. A lazy smile appeared on his features.

That sounded really relaxing actually.

He would never know alone any longer.

"Hey, Sonic?"

Grabbed out of his trance, the blue blur replied, "Yes?"

"What did Sage mean by toys?"

Well, it looks like Sonic's got some explaining to do. Hehe! Yeah, sorry about the wait. But, for some reason, it's getting harder to transfer my thoughts into words, but I'll keep pushing through. I will never give up on this story, so don't worry! :) But, if you couldnt tell, i get pretty lazy towards the end because i work on chapters, usually, all in one night. Bad habit...

Thank you R&R

God Bless You
