A HUGE thanks to jaewalkerr, their review got me into writing again when I was seriously considering abandoning this story.
No-one seemed to notice that I killed either Laxus or Sting… Either that or you don't care… Welp, you'll find out which of them it was next chapter… Probably. :P
Both parties remained still, each sizing up the other. Is it worth attacking first? The intruder's hand rested on the side on the window, as she leaned forward into the room, her bare feet planted firmly on the windowsill. Her cropped short blonde hair whipped around her face with the dying wind, and her inky eyes glinted with unmistakable malice.
Chakara, a foot away from the window, had one arm raised towards the trespasser, the other shielding Yuki, keeping her out of sight.
"Who are you?" Yuki demanded coldly.
"My name is Abigail." Abigail's voice was equally unfriendly. "Who are you?"
"None of your concern." Yuki said, trying to push her way out from under Chakara's protective arm, but he was unyielding. "You, ma'am are breaking and entering."
"I have not broken anything, nor have I set foot in your… house." She retorted, a particular emphasis on the word house made it clear that she did not think much of the cottage that some had come to think of as home.
Yuki face contorted into a bitter mask, acknowledging that Abigail was correct. A smirk painted itself onto the blonde's face. Yuki hissed in dissatisfaction and the two females exchanged hostile glares.
"I think a better question, is what are ya?" Yuki glanced up at her male companion, his head tilted slightly in concentration. "You're not human, are ya? Or a regular mage? Are you a Dragon Slayer?"
"None of the above." Abigail said, not taking her eyes off the other girl.
"Er… Right."
The stillness returned to the room, and the wind died out completely causing Abigail's hair to stick up in every direction, though not unattractively. Fro wanders over, her small feet dragging on the carpet.
"Hello." She said nervously, looking up at the girl on the ledge, who had yet to move at all.
"Get back Fro. She could be dangerous." Lector pulled Fro back by her tail and pulls her to him.
"It's cold outside! Would you like to come inside, lady?" Fro asked sweetly. The entire room stilled, and the temperature dropped rapidly. Abigail's mouth was slack at the corners as her eyes flash red. Even Lucy, who, until now, had been watching the interaction with little interest, had stilled. The invitation to enter the house seemed dangerous, forbidden even.
Abigail was the first to move. Keeping both hands visible, she slowly lowered herself into the bedroom, her feet lightly brushing against the torn curtains. Chakara hissed in warning while pushing Yuki further into the room with his arm. She put one leg out, using it to usher the two exceeds away from Abigail.
"Thank you for the invitation." Her mouth twisted up into a lopsided smile that contained no happiness. She turned and walked towards the door leading out to the lounge room. "I would love some tea. White Peony with Pink Rose Buds if you have any. If not, Rose Pouchong will suffice."
"We don't have any of that." Chakara informed her staunchly.
"What kind of hovel is this?" She demanded, turning on him. "That you do not even have—"
"If we're not good enough for ya, then maybe you should leave!"
"I have questions I want answered and I suspect you do too."
"Yeah, well, you can start by—"
"Tea loosens the tongue my dear, perhaps if you weren't—"
"We may not have that kind of tea," Yuki said loudly, causing Abigail to glare at her once more, "We do however, have Royal Star on the way here. I have sent the other inhabitants of this house to purchase it. In the meantime, you can start with identifying yourself and perhaps an explanation to your sudden arrival is in order."
"Royal Star?"
"Yes."
Abigail paused and her expression turned to one of mild interest. Then the look was immediately gone, replaced with calculated boredom.
"I prefer it iced." She turned on her toes and walked through the door, which had opened without her touching it. The door swung close behind her with a soft click.
"Sure thing, your highness." Yuki whispered scathingly. She turned to Chakara, pushing his hand aside. "Not that I mean to trample on your masculine pride, but I'm perfectly capable of protecting myself from whatever she is."
"I didn't.-"
"I'm not helpless." She snapped and, striding forward, existed the room.
"What did I do now?" He shouted at her retreating figure, but there was no reply.
"Reading between the lines, I'd say you're frustrating her with your persistence in trying to protect her. Honestly, I know the feeling."
"Uh. What?"
She sighed and closed her book with a snap. "Stop protecting her, you're treating her like a child." She pulled the duvet back, revealing legs that were more blue and purple than skin-colour. She swung her legs around and touched her toes to the floor. Seconds later, her knees were tucked up against her chest.
"Cold. The floor is cold." She glanced at Chakara, eyes speaking in a language he didn't understand.
"Uh…"
"My slippers are at the front door."
"You want me to get 'em?"
She nodded, and slipped her feet under her duvet again. Chakara walked out of the bedroom to fetch the pink, fluffy abominations from the shoe box.
"The second you have explained yourself, you are to leave."
"Unless you want me to stay of course."
Yuki sneered. "I doubt it." The unannounced visit that had interrupted what was a lovely hug between her and her friend, had put her in a bad mood.
She then caught sight of Chakara, holding what Lucy called slippers and what he thought of as the 'The Pink Monstrosity,' and her eyes narrowed. "What are you doing with those?" She asked scathingly.
Sensing her bad mood, Chakara grinned. "I'm going to wear them."
"Uh…"
True to his word he shoved his feet into Lucy's tiny slippers. His feet were so big that they strain against the lace over the top and his heels flop over the sides and back.
"Oh." He gasped. "Oh, so fabulous!" He raised one hand and ran it through his hair. Afterwards, he put one hand on his hip and one behind his head.
"The trick to looking sexy is to thrust your hips like so." He demonstrated, causing Yuki to stare in horror and Abigail to watch on in amusement. "And puff out your chest like this, to make yourself seem bigger or to make your titties pop."
Yuki made a sound somewhere between ludicrous snort and a giggle.
"What is he doing?" Abigail asked curiously.
"Get out." Yuki snapped, though her eyes twinkle, taking the edge of severity out of the command.
He snapped a salute and strode out of the room.
"Your mate is amusing." Abigail said.
Yuki's mouth dropped open, forming a perfect little, 'O' and her face was drained of colour. "He's not my mate."
"No? My mistake."
"One that you will not make again." Yuki stalked off into the kitchen, keeping the door open to ensure she has clear view of the intruder.
The front door clicked open and Rogue walked in with plastic shopping bags on both arms, Laxus stepped over the threshold next, with a parcel wrapped in a brown paper bag tucked neatly under his left arm and six or so shopping bags weighing down his right. Wendy skipped in behind them, two notebooks in her hands.
"How was your trip?" Asked Chakara, walking out of the bedroom.
Neither Rogue nor Laxus answer. Instead, they dumped their bags on the floor.
"Who the hell are you?" Laxus demanded.
"Abigail."
"Huh?"
"Abigail. I am visiting."
"Visiting who?"
She nodded her head at Chakara, who was now digging through the shopping bags in search of food. "Him."
"Uh. What?" Charka sat up, a bread roll in his hand. "Me?"
"Yes."
"What for?"
"I was curious."
"Huh?"
"Where is my tea?"
"The water is boiling."
"Excellent. And a snack too if you wouldn't mind, I have had a long journey."
"How's Lucy?" Wendy chimed.
"She's alright. She decided that she didn't want to get out of bed so I left her there."
"Go and fetch her, Rogue. Tea will do her good. Wake her if she's sleeping."
He raised his eyebrow slightly but nodded. Rogue walked across the room quietly and entered the bedroom.
Lucy lay on the bed, hands folded in her lap, staring at the wall in front of her. When he reached the bed, he tapped her shoulder. Lucy stared at him, her once laughing eyes, cold and distant.
"Come."
"I don't want to."
A small smile tugged at the corner of Rogue's mouth. He reached across her, rolled her neatly in her blankets and bundled her into his arms.
"Hey!"
"Tea time."
"I don't even like tea."
"You do now, Lu-chi!" Fro giggled. "Come on Lector!" She grabbed the said Exceed by the paw and pulled him towards the open door.
Upon entering the room, Rogue noticed a definite chill in the air. He suspected that if he were to raise a knife, he would be able to cut through the tension, unleashing a fury that would make thousands of daemons cower in fear.
The visitor, however, seemed completely unaware of the fact that she was the object of the Dragon Slayers' fixation. She had ensconced herself, cross-legged on the couch, delicately sipping tea out of a fragile-looking porcelain cup. A matching saucer lay precariously on her right knee, sporting an ungodly number of sandwiches, biscuits, slices and pretty cupcakes decorated with blue icing and sugar flowers. Her little finger held aloft, she took a dainty sip of tea and placed it in the center of the food she had accumulated.
"You've got your fucking food and your stupid tea. Now answer our questions."
Rogue crossed the center of the room and placed Lucy in the arm chair, Wendy flounced over and sat on the arm rest.
"How are you feeling Lucy-neesan?"
"I'm a burrito."
"Sorry?"
"A burrito of blankets and sadness."
"Are you depressed Lucy-neesan?"
"Yes. Feed me?"
"What do you mean you don't fucking feel like it! We've given you food and—" At this stage, Laxus's face was a most unusual colour of purple. A small hand thwacks his back.
"Hey! Don't hit my back!" He yells at Yuki.
"I am too small to hit your head." Yuki says walking out of the kitchen with a large, silver platter laden with more sandwiches and cake among other sweet things. "What my inarticulate comrade is meaning to say is that we have satisfied your demands, now it is your turn."
Abigail takes a delicate sip of her tea before answering.
"Do I have your word that you will not move nor speak until I have finished?"
A general rumble of assent traveled around the room.
"Will you swear it?"
"What for?" Laxus demands.
"Your word or my lips are sealed."
"Sure. Whatever."
"Repeat after me."
"What?" Gajeel interrupts.
She glares at him and he shrinks back in his chair slightly.
"I swear upon my Dragon's blood that I will not move, speak or use my magic until Abigail has finished."
The room reverberates with sound and a sudden chill and all but Abigail are frozen in their places.
All attempted to speak, but find their lips seemingly glued together. Nor were they able to move.
"I am not a Dragon Slayer nor am I human. I am Abigail, second born to Acnologia. I am one of her children."
At this point, it was fairly clear as to why she had them take the oath. Abigail had clearly seen the outcome of this announcement and had taken precautions to ensure her safety once the truth was out.
"I have come here because I was flying with a sister of mine over the town. As we were flying, we heard a song, which killed my sister mid-flight. Which of you was it? Which of you killed my sister with nothing but words?"
Her eyes flicker around the room then land on Chakara.
"It was you."
Eyes widen in fear, or that is what would have happened if the room wasn't full of frozen people. Abigail rose from her seat.
"It was you. Chakara of Energy. You killed my sister with your strange words."
Her eyes burn with something unrecognizable, though many in the room assumed it was fury and bloodlust. She stands directly in front of him and drops to the floor in a dozega.
"Please help me!" Her voice was laced with desperation and when she lifted her head, black tears were streaming down her cheeks, leaving onyx tear stains on her face.
"Help me kill my family."
