Time Doesn't Always Run Straight
Adam
Part 3
Second last chapter for Adam. Most of this is what happened in the show with only very small changes, sorry but couldn't do much to it and kinda just want Adam done with. Again sandysan2013 you have amazing reviews, please get an account so I can message you directly because you bring up some amazing points.
First: when I write The Doctor, unless mentioned, it will be 11. No real reason other than he is my Doctor and I just really miss Matt Smith (although so excited to see what Peter Capaldi will be like). If anyone can give suggestions on how to write him more like 11, please let me know.
Second: While The Doctor has been responsible for the death of a lot of people, he has never gone out of his way to kill a species. Every time it is more he gets into a situation and has to decide between who lives and who dies, he never seeks it out.
Thirdly: Jestine isn't River. Looking back over previous chapters I have seemed to implied that a little bit. I'm sorry if you thought River and Jestine were the same person. They do know each other and Jestine uses River's name at times to be a little cheeky.
Thank you to everyone for the support, 1 review off 50 so please review to get me there.
Ianto is reading the test results as Owen examines the box. Tosh leans against the doorframe watching them.
"So according to the molecular breakdown, this potentially alien complex artefact is, in fact, made of wood." Ianto informs them.
"Well, perhaps it feel in the crate by mistake. Picked up meson energy from the other stuff." Owen helpfully suggests.
"Yeah, right." Ianto scoffs.
"Oh, yes, sorry, it's a stupid idea." Owen mumbles, blushing.
"I think Jack brought it in." Tosh interjects.
"No, I'm sure Adam found it on an excavation a few months back." Ianto frowns in thought. Owen can't help but think about how cute he looked when he did that.
"I'll have a look at my files. I like to log the interesting stuff." Tosh offers before leaving the room.
"So, we are done for the night?" Owen asks.
"I guess so." Ianto replies slightly dejected.
"Everything all right?" Owen asks in concern.
"Yeah, just, Adam hasn't rung yet." Ianto confesses as he picks up the box before moving back to his laptop.
"Ah. Sure he will." Owen tries to encourage Ianto, feeling courage stirring within him. "I know I would, if it was our anniversary. I wouldn't disappear. In fact, I would… uh… cherish you."
Ianto is taken a back. "Owen." He exclaims.
Owen takes a deep breath before jumping in head first. "Yeah, no, no… um… really, really, I would. In fact, I wouldn't let you out of might sight, Ianto … because I love you."
"What?" Ianto questions, sure he was hearing things.
"Yeah, there we are. I've said it. I… I love you. Yes, I always have, actually, ever since we started working together, and in fact, I actually ache for you, you know, physically. When you're in the room, I when you're in the room I just want to reach out and touch you and…"
"Owen!" Ianto snaps but Owen continues.
"No, no, no, you know, I can't keep this secret anymore! My mum said to me, "Seize the day," and so I am seizing it, and you know I've got so much love to give you, Ianto, and, and you know, you won't know that unless I tell you. So here I am, telling you that I love you. You know I know there's Adam, okay, but you know, I think… In fact, I know that we would be amazing together, um… if you would only just give it a chance." Owen stops rambling as he realises that Ianto is just standing there. "Oh, God. Say something."
"That is completely inappropriate." Ianto is outraged.
"Pardon?" Owen is shocked at Ianto's response.
"What are you thinking of?"
"I'm sorry, I just wanted you to know." Owen looks down in embarrassment.
"How dare you!" Ianto yells at him. "I'm with Adam." He heads for the door, turning back as he gets there. "And even if I wasn't… you're not my type. Never will be."
Owen watches dejected as Ianto storms out.

Tosh is alone in the Hub. She's scanning through the Torchwood records. She scans through quickly before pausing at one point. She then turns off the screen and looks disturbed.
"What's wrong?" Adam is suddenly standing by her side.
Tosh jumps and moves away from Adam. He turns back on the screen and looks at the files Tosh had been looking at.
"The files." Tosh stammers as she watches him. "You're not in any of them. Everyone else is. Why don't you appear? There isn't any CCTV of you till two days ago but you've been here years. It's like I'm remembering a man who doesn't exist." Tosh tells him, stumbling slightly over her words.
Adam turns off the screen, his face scrunched up in anger. His hand flickers. He grabs the arm to steady it as Tosh watches. It solidifies.
"What are you?" Tosh asks, fear evident in her voice.
Adam grabs her and slams her against the wall.
"Cross me, and I will fill you full of fake memories until your head is on fire, because that's how I exist." Adam hisses.
Tosh struggles to push him away from her.
"Gwen? What did you do to her?" Tosh tries to keep her voice steady but it shakes slightly. She backs away as Adam approaches her again.
"Memory is a very delicate thing. Feeding myself in wiped other memories out. It's a side-effect of what I have to do in order to survive." Adam sneers his explanation.
"Jack has to know." Tosh exclaims.
Adam snarls and slams Tosh against the wall again. This time he places his palm flat against her forehead. She gasps and chokes.
"Remember this." He hisses as fake memories start to flash in Tosh's mind.
Flashback
It's night. Tosh pushes a woman against an alley wall. The woman struggles but Tosh has her hands around her throat and she is quickly loosing strength.
"I know you didn't mean to kill her." Adam's voice floats through the scene.
The women weakly pushes at Tosh's arms, her last breath only moments away.
"You just couldn't stop yourself." Adam's voice sneers.
Back to Present
Adam grabs Tosh's forehead again. She gasps and chokes as he inserts more fake memories of Tosh killing. She groans from the forced memories and slides down the side of the wall, Adan's hand never leaving her forehead. "I didn't do that." Tosh is still defiant.
Adam sneers as he inserts more fake memories, this time another women, another murder.
"Oh, yes, you did, and she wasn't the first."
Again and again Adam forces more murders into Tosh's memories.
"The records." Tosh gasps.
"All human record is a lie." Adam scoffs. "You twist it into what you want to believe."
Tosh backs away from Adam. "But we know the rot in your heart. You crave flesh." Adam towers over her.
"No, please." She pleads.
"Remember it." Adam snarls as he slams the memories into Tosh's mind.
Flashback
Adam and Tosh are carrying the body in a rolled up carpet. They throw it into a dumpster at the end of the alley.
"I helped you dump the bodies." Adam tells her as he puts a hand on her shoulder. "It's me you call."
Back to present.
"You know, I forgot what a rush it is, feeding in the bad stuff." Adam smirks before pulling Tosh in for a kiss. After a moment he pulls away and allows her to slide down the wall. He pats her on the forehead before walking away.
Tosh looks around in fear and confusion. She doesn't know where she is or what is true. She curls up on the ground, hugging her knees to her chest and cries.

Jack returns and heads up the stairs.
"Jack." Tosh whispers his name, her words a gentle breeze across the Hub.
Jack stops and turns. He smiles as he sees Tosh. "Tosh." He greets her as he moves back down the stairs and towards Tosh. She is sitting with her back to the spiral stairs in the coffee area.
He frowns as he takes in the paleness of Tosh's face, the sheen of sweat across it. "What's wrong?" Concern clouds his voice.
"You'll have to put me in the vaults. Lock me up. I killed three girls." Tosh sniffles. "Strangled them."
"Stop kidding around." Jack tells her as he turns around to head back up the stairs.
"I'm serious. I murdered them, in cold blood. I took their bodies, and…" Tosh pleads with Jack as she surges noisily to her feet. Her eyes dart around the room, still trapped within the nightmare. Jack watches her with worry.
"You have to look me away… before I turn on you. None of you are safe." Tosh starts for the vaults but Jack's hand darts out and wraps around her arm as she moves past, stopping her.
"Hey, hey." Jack turns Tosh around to have a proper look at her. "Come here, come here. What's happened to you?"
"I'm a monster." Tosh whispers.
Jack quickly drags her to his office, determined to get to the bottom of Tosh's strange behaviour.

Jack and Tosh are sitting in Jack's office. Jack is setting up a lie detector machine, the green light pointed towards Tosh. She sits on the other side of the desk to Jack with her sleeves rolled up and arms on the arms rest.
"Best lie detector on the planet. If something's untrue, the light turns red." Jack explains as he flicks the switch and indicates for Tosh to explain.
"My …hands on her throat." Tosh recalls as the memory flashes before her eyes, distorted.
"And it felt so good. Squeezing the lift out of her." Tosh continues as Jack looks at the machine. The green light continues to flash. Tosh glances down at it too. "It reads as truth." She points out to Jack.
"I don't believe it. Okay, tell me about the second girl." Jack replies firmly.
Again the distorted memory flashes before Tosh's eyes.
"She tried to get away but I was too quick." Tosh explains. "Pleading… and I … I didn't care. Something in me wants to kill."
Jack looks between Tosh and the machine which is still flashing green.
"No, this is not you." Jack slams his fist on the table before turning off the machine. He slowly walks around the desk and places a hand on Tosh's shoulder. "Something's changed you. You're not a murderer. I'm certain of it." Jack tries to reassure Tosh while his mind races at the possibilities.

Jack is at one of the workstations, typing on the keyboard, going through the CCTV security video from inside the hub. He stops when he finds footage of Tosh cowering on the floor.
Jack looks on in horror as Adam forces the memories into Tosh's mind.
He rewinds to Adam and Ianto talking. Suddenly Adam grabs Ianto's hand. "You remembered." Adam tells him.
He rewinds further to Jestine's entrance.
He watches Jestine threaten Adam, throw a knife at him. Then Adam grabs hold of Jestine's arm and she stops struggling.
The scenes intermingle in Jack's mind, Adam's voice ringing in his ear "Remember, Remember, Remember."
Torchwood-Torchwood-Torchwood-Torchwood-Torchwood-Torchwood-Torchwood-Torchwood-Torchwood-Torchwood-Torchwood-Torchwood
Jack opens the refrigerator door, looking for the team's blood samples. He pulls out the entire tray and checks each vial.
"Where's Adam's blood sample?" He asks Tosh who is sitting on the floor nearby.
Tosh gets up and goes to the workstation. She pulls up Adam's personnel information. "Everything's in order here." Tosh tells Jack.
"When was it last updated?" Jack asks on a hunch.
Tosh taps a few keys. "Twenty-four hours ago." She answers.
Suddenly the overhead lights switch on. Tosh quickly changes the screen and gets out of the chair. Jack turns away and picks up a book, casually opening it.
Owen stumbles in carrying a large bouquet of flowers. He stops and stares at Jack for a moment.
The cog door opens. Owen shoots a glance in the direction of the cog door before putting the flowers on Ianto's workstation. Tosh quickly moves past Owen and disappears behind the workstations. Owen looks at Jack before removing his jacket and heading towards the autopsy bay.
Jack watches Owen's departure with curiosity but before he has time to amylase it, Adam and Ianto come in, laughing and hanging off each other. Jack feels the pang in his stomach again, but this time he knows why. He silently moves to his office.
Ianto halts in front of his workstations, eying the flowers. He disentangles himself from Adam and searches for a card.
Owen appears from the autopsy bay and heads towards Ianto.
"About last night … um… that was selfish of me." Owen stumbles over his apology.
Adam sits in a nearby chair and watches. Jack watches from his office.
"Owen, I think the world of you…" Ianto starts…
"I know. I'm really sorry. I don't want to jeopardize our friendship. The most important thing is that you're happy." Owen explains.
"Thank you." Ianto nods at him.
Owen turns and takes a few steps before stopping and turning back. "Ianto … you are … you are happy with Adam, aren't you?"
"Completely." Ianto answers without hesitation.
Owen nods and leaves. Adam watches as he goes, smirking. He looks up and sees Tosh up on the far back catwalk. Gwen has just arrived with Jestine a few steps behind.
"Hey, how are you today?" Ianto asks Gwen.
"Um, things are coming back slowly." Gwen replies as Adam gets up and heads towards them. "Rhys thought I shouldn't come into work, but…"
"Hey, we'll look after you. You just have to give yourself time." Adam interrupts before gesturing. "Come on, group hug."
Ianto, Owen and Gwen embrace Adam and each other without hesitation.
"Come on." Adam gestures to Tosh who is coming down from the spiral staircase.
Tosh just shakes her head, quickly avoiding Adam's embrace.
Adam smirks as he calls out to Jestine. "I could murder a coffee." He doesn't take his eyes off Tosh, smirking more as she squirms.
"Yeah, in a moment. I need to speak to Jack." Jestine mutters, her voice tight. She scuttles towards Jack's office before Adam has a chance to argue.
So I know not much different from the actual episode but hopefully you enjoyed it. Next and last chapter of Adam up next week.
