The glow separated from Max's chest, floated only inches away in the air, then it took a solid shape. Almost like a dream, the item up front was a weapon shaped similarly to Sarox and Marlene's Keyblades. The tilt was made of gold and bronze with a keychain replica of the Ice Princess's Crystal Heart. The blade mixed with what looked like ocean rocks and lava rocks, with teeth engulfed by flames and water, combined equally to balance harmony. Max knew instantly that it was his Keyblade; a symbol of his dreams.
"Aqua Flame," he named it.
Sarox grinned. "It's your weapon, to defend both your dreams and the dreams of others," he said.
Max grabbed the tilt. Instantly, the power traveled down his arm straight to his heart. He could feel its potency, its strength. Without knowing how, he realized what needed to be done right before time unfroze itself and Minus's army started moving again. Mr. Electric and Minus looked at Max' Keyblade with wide, surprised eyes.
Max pointed his weapon at Sharkboy and Lavagirl's bodies and exclaimed, "Heal!"
Green light of regeneration appeared and dove into their bodies. A few seconds later, their eyes fluttered open. They pushed themselves up, almost drowsily as if they'd been dreaming.
"What happened?" asked a confused and weak Sharkboy.
"You two almost died, that's what happened," PJ said.
"No!" Minus snapped. "They shouldn't have survived."
Max took a step forward and spoke confidentally. "Dreams can be re-dreamed. As long as we don't give them up and find the courage to keep them within us, nothing will destroy them."
Minus snarled like an angry child who'd lost in his favorite game (which he did) and thrust his hands forward. Everyone raised their hands, weapons ready. The Heartless army obliged as it marched toward the little group. Marlene quickly blew herself off the ground, rising 10 feet above and thrust her eagle wings forward which sent a powerful gust of wind towards the army, blowing their formation apart. Mr. Electric, however, held a firm stand against Marlene's power until PJ sent bolts of lightning down on him and the monsters. The impact knocked them all away. Sarox, Sharkboy and Lavagirl were about to help out when Max yelled out, "No!"
He darted in front of them. By the determination on his face, Sarox wondered if he was thinking of a strategy or a chance to run away. "The Darkness is still a matter. We need to deal with it first." His gaze landed on Lavagirl. "You are the one who can do it."
"What?" She looked on in confusion.
Max nodded and said reassuringly, "It's what you always been able to do. Lavagirl, you've never been a simple flame or something unimportant. The power to expel the Darkness rests within you. You are not destruction, and you are not evil. You are light."
Lavagirl's face slowly lit up to a confident grin as understanding came to her, and then she nodded. "What do I need to do?"
Max turned his glance sheepishly to a blank distance. Then a glow appeared in the far distance. Its intensity expanded and shunned away the surrounding darkness like a lantern. Sarox saw the burning source the moment its shape came into view; an active volcano boiling at an explosive level. It looked powerful enough to burn away anything.
Lavagirl's grin grew larger.
"You have to get to the volcano," informed Max. "It's your power source and where you'll be at your most powerful."
She nodded. "Leave it to me."
"I'll go with her," Max G. offered instantly. "She'll need someone to back her up."
Max nodded. For a second, Max G. felt the change in him. He wasn't as timid as before; the boy standing here now was confident, self-assured and strong.
He turned to Sharkboy. "Sharkboy, I need you to hold off Mr. Electric and his army with the others while I deal with Minus."
Sharkboy hesitated. "I'd need an army to be able to do that. He's too strong and he's got back-up."
Max turned around and stared at... nothing. "I'll unfreeze the ocean." He snapped his fingers. Then in a matter of milli-seconds, the icy ground de-frosted to reveal a wide and deep sea surrounding the Ice Castle in the distance. The ice bottom and pillars supporting the architecture, however, remained untouched. Everyone looked on in awe at Max's sudden immense intensity of power.
He faced his friends again. "Good luck, guys." With that, he shot off after Minus, past Mr. Electric's troop. The cyborg cried out in anger and started after him before Sharkboy screamed, "Hey, your opponent is me."
Mr. Electric laughed. "Aw, and who are you to believe that you can beat me now?" He stared arrogantly at the kid.
He shrugged. "No one special. Just..." He raised his arms sideways. The water behind him suddenly wavered in quick movements, then out of it jumped an army of six feet tall tiger sharks. With layers of teeth sharp enough to bite through anything. "King of the Ocean," Sharkboy declared himself, and then flicked his fingers forward.
Mr. Electric gasped. And then the shark army attacked in a frenzy.
Max G. and Lavagirl rushed toward the volcano in a life-matters run. He had to speed up to keep up with the girl. It seemed his long years of training had really paid off. Never had he run so long without feeling wired. His father had been easy on him, but even so, he had trained his stamina by making him run 15-20 miles a day. Once he exceeded that distance, his dad extended the limit to 22 miles a day, then 25, and then 28. He had barely made it to 26 in his training before the King sent him out on this long-lasting mission to save the universe from the mysterious dark forces. And now, he was running alongside a girl with fiery hair without even knowing how long he had been running. And fending off Heartless that kept popping out of nowhere.
"I have become what you fear most, Minus," Max whispered behind Minus once he reached the Dream Lair.
The boy swung around in shock and anger. "How'd you get here?" he demanded to know.
"I am the Daydreamer. Able to dream with my eyes... open."
Minus smirked. "Hate to burst your bubble, dream-boy, but I read your book. There's not a single dream you got that I haven't already read about." He lifted his hands. "So what do you say? Let's blow the roof off this place." He thrusted upward and willfully blew apart the roof of the Dream Lair like an explosion.
