1: Thank you for your review! That's the first bet I've ever won, lol. Well...they'll eventually get their act together and yeah, it's sort is like Tiva all over again, isn't it? I'm glad that Ari is becoming likable. I like Fornell too, he's snarky. :D

RidingAngelxspy: Glad that I surprised you with Fornell. We will get to see more of that side of Ari. Evie is totally over her head. Eventually they will meet, and I'm not sure how close Ziva and Ari will be yet. I'm still debating on that. Next chapter will be Ari's revelation, I cut this chapter short. Eventually to your last two question, lol. Thank you so much! I'm so happy that everyone is liking this story so much. :D

Ziva's Interlude

'From the Edge'

The DC air felt cold to her.

She stood on the edge of the woods, just out of sight if anyone would peek out the windows. She pondered the house for a long moment, it had a mysterious quality about it, just like its owner. Evelyn Matthews. The woman was a mix of contradictions. After all, what kind of woman picks up her abductor and throws him in the back of her car to take him home and care for him? Not that she wasn't grateful, Ziva cared deeply for her brother. Petals from the dogberry tree trickled down upon her as the wind shook the free, but Ziva did not move to brush them off. Her gaze locked onto the kitchen window where Evelyn stood in front of the sink. Ziva's dark eyes widened when Ari pulled Evelyn to him, his eyes glowed as he gazed at down at Evelyn.

The intimacy of the gesture wasn't lost on her, and Ziva felt herself stunned. She had imagined that Evelyn Matthews was just a passing obsession for Ari, and thought it would pass. But the stark look in her brothers eyes as he looked at Evelyn before burying his face into her throat...Ziva took a step back, her breath caught in throat. She never thought she'd see her brother have any human emotion in his eyes after Tali's death. Ziva had tried for so long, so hard to bring him back, but he shut her out of his life. He only spoke business with her, and hardly showed any affection that a sibling would for another. She had come here to deal with the 'problem' as her father put it and as Ari's handler bring him home. Now, Ziva didn't know if she could. Her father had been convinced that Ari was on the edge, that he would snap. That there was nothing, but a monster left.

Ziva denied it, though her herself had been coming to believe it. And Ari did nothing to dissuade the image that other painted him as. In fact, if anything he encouraged it. But she now saw something different, and Evelyn had something to do with it. Her heart pounded in throat, could she deal with Evelyn as her father had planned now that she had seen the part of Ari-the part of her brother that she had so deeply missed? For the first time, Ziva was uncertain. If she killed Evelyn, and took Ari back to Tel Aviv, Ziva knew it would be the final nail in the coffin for him. But if she...left him here with Evelyn...could she get her brother back? Could Evelyn pull him back from the edge where Ziva had failed? Car lights cut through the trees, and Ziva ducked down, her hand instinctively reaching for her weapon. She watched the unmarked vans past and her heart jolted in her chest. Did her father send them? Did he think that Ziva had taken too long?

A sigh of relief expelled from her lips when she recognized the man FBI Tobias Fornell whom Ari had made a deal with. She sat there for a long moment in indecision. Her duty told her to do her job, that her emotion hadn't matter. That they meant nothing. But her heart told her a very different thing. Her hand dropped from her weapon and she slinked off into the shadows back to her vehicle. Turning the key in the ignition, she gazed out into the night. She had to give him a chance. One last chance.

She owed her brother that.
