Forgetting

"Rose!" The Doctor called, as he quickly scaled the stairs three at a time and burst into her room. "Rose! Wake-up! It's an emergency!"

"For the last time Doctor," Rose grumbled, from beneath her covers. "You just have to read like a normal person."

"No, not that," the Doctor yelled. "I've gotten over that, well I say gotten over I mean—Oh never mind, but Rose I can't remember where the planet Deva Loka is! I went there, I know that, in my fifth regeneration I believe."

Rose peeked out one eye, "so?"

"So?! So?! Don't you understand! I'm a Time Lord; I'm not supposed to just forget things one morning! I'm not like you people!"

Rose groaned, "Doctor, you're half human remember and we human's forget things from time to time."

"But I shouldn't—"

"Doctor, you're fine," Rose deadpanned, daring him to disagree. "Now go back to bed."

"Rose," he whined. "This is important! What if next I forget how to fly the TARDIS? Or what if I wake up one morning and can't remember which planet is New Earth and which is Mondas, they look very similar you know. Or what if," he gulped. "What if one day I wake-up and forget you, or Martha, or Donna, or Susan, or Barbara, or Sarah-Jane, or—"

"Doctor," Rose interrupted, worried that if she didn't he would name everyone he had ever traveled with. "You'll be fine, I promise."

"But I don't want to forget them," his face resembled a kick puppy and he looked so confused and lost, it hurt. "I don't want to forget any of you, especially you; I don't want to forget you."

Rose bit her lip and stared up at the man, although he had the mind of an ancient man, this version of himself, the weird half-human life, had only been around for just over half a year.

"Sometimes, it helps to talk about it," she told him. "I mean if you want."

He bit his lip, "I'd like that I think."

She scooted over and patted the bed next to her, "well get over here then."

He nodded numbly and sat, "I don't know where to start."

"How about the beginning? Who was the first person you traveled with?"

"Susan," he breathed out, and the way he said her name as if it was sacred and holy, made something inside Rose stir, but before she could decide whether or not it was jealousy he continued. "She was the first and she was magnificent, just like her old grandfather." He boasted and Rose knew that she was jealous now. She'd never seen the Doctor talk of someone so fondly, not even when he'd been reunited with Sarah-Jane.

"And who was her grandfather?" She asked, trying to keep the edge out of her voice.

He smiled, a hint of mischief in his eyes, "me."

Rose gawked, "you?"

"Yes me, I've had kids before, remember?"

"Right, yes, of course," she felt silly now and she was sure her cheeks were turning red. "Sorry, continue."

And so he did, he talked of Susan and her teachers. He talked of wild-spirited Ace, and 18th-centurary Jamie. He paused when he talked of Adric, crying as he recounted the story of his fallen comrade, and then continued on. Jo, Sarah-Jane, Martha, Donna, the name's continued to spill off his tongue.

And as he continued, Rose realized just how old this man was. Just how much he had been through, and how many he had lost, but as he lay there and talked himself to sleep, she realized that she didn't care. Despite how broken he was, he was still her Doctor, and he always would be.

So as he fell asleep, so did she, snuggling up into his side, listening to the sound of his one heart.

So yep, kinda a continuation of memories, but the Doctor's new half-human brain can't handle all the memories. So as a last resort it's trying to sort itself out, more or less deleting what it deems unimportant data I suppose. The planet is from Doctor Who and is from an episode which I do not know the name of.

My Classic Who knowledge is limited so if I got anything wrong please feel free to tell me, just do it in a polite manner that's all I ask
