Disclaimer: I own nothing. Not Gibbs, not Ari, no one do I own. This is all for amusement. There I said it, now can someone have Ari put the gun down slowly…

Guest Reviews:

RidingAngelxspy: I'm sorry its taken so long to update. Been busy, and I had other fics I had to update first. Anyways, thank you. I'm glad you liked it. As for Tali, and her being Ari's daughter will all be explained not In this chapter, but the next one. And thank you for your support, I really appreciate it.

Selena: Thank you! And here it is! Hope you enjoy. :D

Someone: I know, I'm sorry. I would update faster, but life and responsibility leaves not enough time for my hobby. Glad you liked it. :D And I like Elle Bishop, at first I was worried because I didn't want them to replace Ziva with a carbon copy like most shows mistakenly do, but Elle was her own character and she is quirky like me, so yep. I like her.

Rea: Thank you so much. :D

Jk: Hope you're still on the edge of your seat. :D

CHAPTER TWENTY

"And It All Hurts"

"What did you just say?" Gibbs could barely form the words through his anger, and pain. It was remarkable how that sentence managed to drag back years of pain and regret in one horrible second, and he watched Evelyn's expression crumble. Tears filled up her eyes, and she holding them back with great effort. "What…did you just say?" He barked, his fingers pressing into the metal table as if he were striving to snap it in two. Evelyn flinched back, lowering her eyes to the floor before releasing a low, shuddering sigh.

Her mouth opened, and closed then she swallowed thickly. Trembling, she raised her head and met his gaze once more. "Gibbs…" she said, her voice barely more than a whispered. "Gibbs, I'm Kelly."

The words hit him even harder the second time around, and his heart instantly rebelled against them, against the hope they brought forth. It wasn't possible. It wasn't possible. It wasn't possible! He wanted her to take them back. He wanted to deny them. He took in sharp, uneven breaths trying to find something to say, trying to figure out what to do. The impossibility of it all shattering his reality in that moment. The image of Kelly when she was seven begging him not to go flickered through his mind, and then when he had heard of her death…his heart had broken when he'd never get to make good on his promise to come back.

Evelyn had expected him to scream. To get anger. To say something. Anything. Instead, there was silence. Utter silence. It was so silent that Evelyn for one second feared she had gone deaf, but she didn't make an attempt to break it. She couldn't. She felt paralyzed, rooted to the spot and her blue eyes stared at Gibbs. He looked froze. His expression so blank, and his eyes were filled with so much, but Evelyn could not decipher it all. His mouth opened, before closing with an audible snap. The lines around his eyes tightened as he stared at her with a hard look, and a tremble ran up his jaw before he stood abruptly. The chair crashed to the floor causing Evelyn to jump, and stare up at him wide eyed. He stood there, his shoulder rising and falling with great effort. He was struggling to keep it all inside, struggling to come to grips with it and Evelyn's stomach twisted into guilty knots. "This…this isn't," she said, finding her voice. Her voice wavered and watery. "This isn't how I wanted you to find out. I wanted to…" she shook her head. "I don't know. I just know I didn't want to do it like this, but I just couldn't keep lying."

Gibbs still said nothing.

"Gibbs…" Evelyn hated the way her voice shook with the need for nothing more than to call him dad. "Please…please say something," she said, looking up at him beseechingly. "Please…please don't hate me…"

Her begging fell on deaf ears. Gibbs gave her once last indecipherable look before marching out the door. The door slamming behind him knocked the air out of Evelyn as if she had physically been struck and she sat there. Her jaw clenched, then unclenched as she rapidly blinking trying to hold back the wave of tears that threatened to fall. It was an effort made in vain, the tears came rolling down in her cheeks. There was a great empty ache in her chest as if her heart had been ripped out of it, and her body was just catching up to the fact that it needed it to live. Before the overwhelming grief could swallow her whole, the door opened and an officer walked in. "Miss Matthews?" He questioned, looking at her.

She raised an eyebrow at him in reply. She didn't trust herself to speak right this very second. The officer said, "You are free to go, for now."

If she had been in a better mood, she would have said something witty. Instead, she solemnly nodded and rose from the chair on shaky legs. As she walked out of the police station, the world around her seemed out of focus and blurry as if it weren't real and she just kept walking. When she got outside, the wind was cold and it was raining but she was barely noticed it at all. She was completely numb, the pain so terrifyingly strong had burned out all feeling in her entire body leaving her numb. She looked around, and in the back of her mind she took in the fact that she didn't have a car. That she should probably wait for Tony or Kate to give her a ride, but her feet start pulling her towards the direction of home.

She didn't know how she walked. Time meant nothing to her. She just kept putting on foot in front of the others, listening as the cars passed by and flinching as the water came up splashing her. It didn't matter though, she was already soaked from head to toe by that time. It wasn't until she heard a car pull to a halt beside her, the headlights reflecting off of the water brightly. Then a voice called out, "Evelyn!"

Evelyn froze, and slowly turn looking at the woman in the vehicle more closely. She was exotically beautiful, with wavy dark hair and her brown eyes were familiar to Evie though Evie was certain she had never meet this woman before in her entire life. "Do I know you?" She asked, flatly.

"No, but I know you," the woman replied, simply.

Evelyn cocked her head to the side, thoughtfully. "And how's that?" She asked, wishing she had her gun on her. The police had taken it away though when…Pop! Pop! Pop! Gunfire always startled her. It was just something she would never get used to, but her reflexes had her on the floor as the bullets shatter a nearby display of lamps. Ana rolled onto her feet, drawing out her pistol and pointed at the man who had his gun raised right at her. She pulled the trigger, and two simultaneous gunshots went off. The man went down hard, his lifeless body fell with a loud thud against the tile white floor. Ana went stumbling backward, with a cry of pain as her right arm burned. Reaching up, she felt blood soaking up her sleeve and a shudder ran through her.

Her first thought was the hospital was going to have to start keeping her bed ready because this would another one of many trips to Mercy Hospital. Then her next urge was to start laughing, but the urge to laugh disappeared when the screams soaked in. She blinked hard, and she looked around to see people running every which way. Others cowered and Ana turned her eyes downward away from the lights because they hurt her eyes. Her fingers were so tight around her gun that her knuckles were bland white, and a beat of fear zinged through her. Where was Audrey? Where is my grandmother? She thought, her breath caught in her throat as her head shot up. Her eyes scanned the aisle and she stumbled forward towards the pharmacy. That's where Audrey had headed off to. She had to be there. She had to be safe.

"Evelyn?" The woman asked, but Evelyn's eyes were unfocused and unclear as if she were far away in that moment. Utterly unreachable.

Audrey was slumped in a seat, her hand on her chest and each breath looked labored and pained. Evie's heart jolted in her chest, and she went to go forward. "Audrey…" she croaked out. "Audrey!"

Audrey lifted her head, and their eyes caught and Ana went to run forward when a voice shouted behind her, "Freeze!" Ana slid to a stop, and craned her head over her shoulder to see two policemen pointing guns at her. "Drop the weapon!"

"Wait…wait…please…" Audrey gasped out.

Evelyn felt froze, never feeling this amount of fear ever before. The gun went limp in her hands, and her heart was so torn to go to Audrey and to listen to the policeman. Tears filled her eyes that never strayed from Audrey, and she slid the safety over and let the gun fall to the floor. As soon as her hand raised over head, she was tackled to the ground. "Help her, please," Ana begged, the handcuffs digging painfully. "Help her! She's having a heart attack! Help her!"

She vaguely heard one of them call for ambulance, but she couldn't look away from Audrey. It was a image that would be ever imprinted in her mind, and when she was thrown into the back of the police car, she would think of all the things she could have done differently. She could have told them to look in her pocket for her badge, she could have told them it was self defense. But none of those words escaped her lips, all she could do was stare frozen at her grandmother.

She froze, and she would always regret that.

"Evelyn!" The woman snapped.

Evie jerked, eyes narrowed in a glare. "Who are you?" She asked, no caring if she was rude or not.

"Ziva. Ari's sister," the woman answered, calmly.

That gave Evelyn pause. She stared for a long moment at Ziva, and she could now see why the woman was so familiar. Her and Ari had the same eyes. A millions filtered through her mind at once, but she settled on one. "So…can you give me a lift?" She asked.

Ziva blinked, obviously not expecting that. She nodded, and without a second thought, Evelyn walked around to the passenger side and got in. As she settled in the seat, half-heartedly apologizing for get it wet and as she clicked the seat belt into place, she noticed Ziva's stare. "What?" She asked.

"You are far too trusting," Ziva frowned.

"You came here to get, obviously for Ari…" Evelyn said, slowly. "Now, you are complaining because I got in the car?"

"I am complaining about your lack of preservation," the other woman countered, heatedly.

"Well," Evelyn shrugged, "if you really wanted to kill me, it wasn't like I would get that very far on foot anyways. Might as well be cooperative." And with that, she fell silent and laid her head against the cool glass window.

Ziva stared at Evelyn for a few seconds longer, before shaking her head and muttering under her breath about 'strange Americans'. She shifted the truck into drive, and sped off. She'd let Ari deal with his crazy American girl. After all, Ziva had to do some serious damage control.

He dreamed about them. He always dreamed about them. He dreamed of waking up to them. To Shannon and Kelly. Dreamed of Kelly jumping on the bed to wake him up, with the smell of breakfast wafting through the air. He carry a laughing Kelly down the stairs, and make it to the kitchen to see Shannon smile and then…then he would really wake up. And it would hit like a punch to the gut.

He remembered that they were dead. It was hard cold fact he had to live with. And now…now Evelyn was telling him the impossible.

She was Kelly. He wanted to be mad. To accuse of her doing it for…for…He shook his head back and forth because honestly he couldn't think of a reason that Evelyn would lie to him. At least, about something like this. She got nothing to gain from it. And against everything he believed, he started to let himself hope. To think that just maybe…

Gibbs punched in Abby's number on his phone, and pressed the phone to his ear ignoring the tremor that ran down his hand.

"Abby's Mortuary! You stab 'em, we bag 'em."

"Abby, I knew you to check something for me." Gibbs was brusque, and straight to the point. He didn't have time for their usual banter today, his world had just been turned upside down and he glanced back over at the police station. Evelyn's admission weighed down heavily on him, and kept repeating in his mind. The what ifs were taunting him, torturing him, but he pushed them away. He wouldn't, couldn't let himself think them until he knew it was true. Had to know it was true.

"Okay…what'cha need?" Abby asked, brightly.

"I need you to run a DNA test," Gibbs breathed out. He remembered Evie's pale, earnest face staring at him and it felt like a punch to the gut. She wouldn't lie, his gut told him. Evelyn had no reason to lie about this, but…he had to see the proof with his own eyes. He couldn't take anything at face value anymore, not after so many mistakes of doing that and it ending up blowing up in his face. He ground his teeth together, before releasing a sigh. "Evelyn's DNA against mine," he said.

He waited for the questions, for the freaking out on the other end, but nothing came. There was a pause, and for a moment, Gibbs feared he had hung up on her somehow. Then he heard Abby let out a shaky breath. "She told you…" Abby's voice was quiet.

Gibbs felt the air knocked out of him, and his knuckles blanched white as he tightened his hold on his phone. His heart sank like stone in the pit of his stomach, and it burned icy cold. "She…? You knew?" His voice came out quiet, but it was full of anger and hurt.

"Only for a few days," Abby defended lamely.

"How?" Gibbs barked. His free hand curled, and the urge to last out and hit something was almost overwhelming. "Did she tell you? Did she…" tell you before she told me? Gibbs's gut twisted unpleasantly at the thought, and his heart was pounding in his chest.

"The tests came back. The ones from the crime scene where…Evelyn was kidnapped?" Abby's reminded made Gibbs let out a heavy sigh, and run a hand down his face. "It…got hit and well, it was you."

"Why didn't you tell me, Abby?" Gibbs asked. He was feeling overwhelmed. He had been good at hiding what he thought, what he felt, but now he could feel it all brimming to the surface about to explode.

"I thought Evelyn should be the one to tell you. I gave her a heads up that I knew, and that she needed to tell you…or I would," Abby said, nervously. "I didn't like being in the know, and you not know."

Gibbs drew in a long breath, leaning his back against the car while he looked upward at the sky. His jaw shook and his blue eyes were suspiciously glassy. He snapped them shut, and said, "I'll talk to you later, Abby."

"Wait, Gibbs-"

He shut his phone, and stood there for a good minute or two before. He then paced the length of his car, his face grim and severe. His blue eyes flickering towards the police station, and he tried gathering his thoughts. Where had she been? How this has happened? He felt the ache in his chest grow the longer he stared at the station and pictured Evelyn setting down in the interrogation room. The memory loss? But no, it couldn't have been all that. They were in Witness Protection which something happened with the FBI. His temples throbbed, and he made a note to call Fornell and have a discussion with him.

But first, he needed to talk to his daughter. That thought propelled his feet into motion, and he stormed into the police station as if the hounds of hell were nipping at his heels. He brushed past DiNozzo and Kate who tried to stop him and burst into the interrogation room. Even cell in his body froze, and his heart stopped inside his chest. The air and noise seemed sucked out of the room, as he stared at the empty, dank room for several seconds.

She was gone. Evelyn was gone. Kelly was gone.

A knot of emotion welled in the back of his throat, and he swallowed it down. It went down like shards of broken glass, burning and stabbing through him. He picked out the only emotion he could handle in that moment, and that was anger. Whirling around, slamming the interrogation door so loud that everyone stopped and looked. "Where is Evelyn?" Gibbs demanded, walking back out of the interrogation room. His blue eyes swept around the room, and he stalked forward.

"Where the hell is my daughter?"

Evelyn stumbled through the door. Her movements slow and fumbling. She could only blink in surprise when she came face to face with Ari, who looked more than a little angry.

"Where have you been?" Ari demanded the second she walked through the door. His expression severe, and his posture that of a predator about to strike. Evelyn stared at him, blankly. Ari's expression turned into one of confusion and he looked over at his sister who lingered in the doorway. Ziva just shrugged, before walking out the door and closing it behind her. His dark eyes swept back towards Evelyn, and he said, "Evelyn…what happened?"

She sighed and turned away from him, heading towards the bathroom. Her movements slow and jerky, causing him to follow. She shoved through the door not even bothering to turn on the light, her numbed fingers clumsily trying to grasp the buttons. Evelyn let out a noise of frustration when her fingers wouldn't cooperate and felt tears gather in her eyes. She bit the inside of her cheek keeping back a scream before dropping down on the toilet seat defeated and stared numbly at the white tile walls.

Ari leaned against the door way, and watched her entire struggle. He felt himself alarmed when she just gave up and sat down without a word. When he saw a tear tremble down her cheek, he came to a stop in front of her and knelt down. She didn't even acknowledge him, just kept staring at the wall. "Will you let me?" He asked. He didn't want to scare her right now, not when she seemed so fragile. Her blue eyes blinked hard as if she were pulling herself back into reality and looked down at him. "You need to get in some dry clothes."

Something in her gaze softened, and her hand lifted up cupping his cheek. She looked so sad staring down at him, with tears that she was trying to hold back and she leaned her forehead against his. She closed her eyes, and nodded slowly. He reached up for the top button, and kept his eyes on her expression. He undid it and felt a tremble run through her body, and his hands moved to the next one. The moonlight from the small window slanted over her alabaster skin, giving him a tantalizing view by exposing some places, and hiding others leaving him hungering for more. Her eyes were still closed, hiding what she was thinking and her lips parted slightly. With the next button, he felt the swell of her breasts underneath his hands.

He felt her hand that was on his cheek shake, but other than that she gave no other sign of acknowledgement. Ari undid it, and struggled to keep his eyes on her face. He had thought about undressing her before, but for a very different reason. He supposed it was his turn to take care of her. He finished unbuttoning the buttons, and brought his hands up to her neck. He always marveled at how soft she was and gently peeled the shirt off her shoulders. She pulled her wrists free and Ari dropped the shirt aimlessly to the floor. This time he couldn't stop his wondering eyes from feasting upon her bare flesh. Her breast hidden beneath satin sapphire bra that contrasting against her porcelain skin. His hands rested on each side of her stomach, his fingers rubbing against her creamy skin. The urge to taste her on his tongue.

"You're so beautiful," Ari whispered out.

Evelyn's eyes snapped open and she stared at him, surprise in her blue eyes. "Wh-what?" She asked, her teeth chattering together.

Ari reached up, brushing a strand of hair out of her face. "Can you take it from here?" He asked her.

"Um," she blinked, then nodded. "Yes…yes, I think so."

Ari studied her for a long moment, before rising from the ground and reluctantly letting her go. He moved over to the tub, and turning on the hot water preparing a bath for her. "I'll bring you some dry clothes," he told her, and walked out of the bathroom.

Evelyn stared after him, then shook her head lightly. When she thought she had Ari pinned, he did something that threw her off. She unconsciously rubbed her skin where his hands had been before she stripped off her jeans. Her cold body ached as she moved, and just settled into the tub not bothering to fight with her bra or underwear. She let out a long breath, then slid underneath the water.

How did she expect Gibbs to react? To throw his arms around her, to hold her like she had been longing for? For them to suddenly be a family? How could she have been so stupid? She should have not just…just blurted it all out. She broke the surface, her heart pounding painfully in her chest. Each heartbeat seemed to bury the broken pieces deeper and deeper inside her soul. Movement out of the corner of her eye drew her gaze to Ari who set her dry clothes on the sink, and he turned towards her.

"Ari," his name was on her lips. She just needed…something. Something real to hold on to, because it felt like her entire world was coming crashing down.

Ari stepped towards the tub, and knelt down. Her arms wrapped around his neck, and she buried her face in his neck. He didn't complain, even though his was stunned by her actions. He brought his arms around her, holding her tight. "Evelyn…what happened?" He murmured. He felt a kaleidoscope of emotions rush through him. Worry, which was a foreign thing for him, and anger for whatever or whoever did this to her.

Evie pulled back, and looked at him. "I…I told Gibbs the truth," she whispered out. "I told him that I was his daughter. I told him I was Kelly."

"And he reacted badly?" I'll kill him.

"It…was actually his…lack of reaction," Evelyn admitted through trembling lips. "He just looked at me, as if…as if he couldn't believe what I just said and then his face…it went blank. Then he just walked out of the room with out a word or glance back."

"He's a fool," Ari told her.

"I'm not so sure it's that simple," she countered, softly. She knew how painful her mother's death and her supposed death were for him. She knew that her claim had brought back a pain he had tried to stomp out. A part of understood it all, but the other half, the more selfish half just wanted to curl in a ball and cry.

"You still defend him…even though he has hurt you so?" He asked, baffled.

Evelyn just shrugged lightly, wiping away the tears before they fell. "Can you…just stay with me?" She begged, closing her eyes tightly and her jaw trembled.

Ari ran his hand gently across her cheek, tucking the wet strands of hair behind her ears. "Always," he promised, softly.

Evelyn's expression cracked, her lips trembling and tears sliding down her cheeks. She reached up, wrapping her arms around Ari and buried her face into the crook of his neck. He wrapped his arms around her, not caring about getting his arms wet. He rested his chin on the top of her head, and closed his eyes. "Always," he repeated, softly.

END OF CHAPTER!

NEXT CHAPTER! Everything comes to a head. (And I didn't mean that in any dirty way. Get your mind out of the gutters, people! My mind is in there enough for everybody. lol)

IMPORTANT NOTE! Please read.

The Girl In Memory: Spooks Edition

This is an Alternative Universe, meaning that this is a different road that Evelyn Matthews went down. While the focal point of Kelly(Evie) being reunited with Gibbs will stay the same, other facts will not.

Timeline: This fic will start in 2005. This is obviously after Kate is killed, and Ari is killed meaning Ziva will be a part of the team unlike in this one and Ari stayed a bad guy.

Also in order to keep the MI-5/Spooks storyline the way I want it, I've had to fudge up the timeline on that. Instead of Lucas North becoming a traitor in 2009/2010, it will be in 2005. The timeline will be adjusted to fit this, so I'm throwing everything back about five years including his birthday, when he joined MI-5 and so on.

CROSSOVER: MI-5/Spooks, but it will be centered mostly around the NCIS Universe so we won't be getting too lost. There will be elements from Nancy Drew: The Silent Spy, but no characters or really anything that warrants it as a crossover really. I'm just taking bits of the storyline from that game to build a background for Evelyn, but as a precaution I'll mention it in disclaimer anyhow.

Summary: Evelyn Matthews has come a long way to reunite with her past and her father, but she has a ocean of secrets that threaten to drown her, and more blood on her hands than most men. An AU look at what could have been if no one had saved Evelyn from the dark path that she was headed down.

Pairings: Lucas/North, Gibbs/Jenny, Tony/Ziva, Abby/McGee

Warning: Language, Blood, Violence, Mentions of Drug Use and may contain sexual activity but nothing too graphic

So that's the setup! Let me know what you think! :D
