Chapter 7: Cloud of Deceit

A month had gone by since Stew's sighting of the super-predator, and the three were sadly no closer to finding out it's true identity. "Any activity recently?" Amy asked as she walked by Natalie, who was once again at the monitors. "Sadly, yes. Another hybrid was killed last night. Stew's out at the kill now. He'll be back in a while," Natalie said somewhat worried. "Don't worry, I'm sure he'll be alright." Amy replied reassuringly. "Hopefully this kill will lead us to the true identity of that predator." Amy thought to herself as she headed to the elevator.

Soon, Stew returned to the treehouse and the three went to the monitors to review the evidence from the kill site.

"Yep, this was our super-predator alright. Same marks & tracks as before." Natalie said. Stew then spoke up. "Most of the kills seem to be on this part of the outer rim. Natalie, have you tracked any large predators here over the past few weeks?" He asked. "No, I haven't seen any large predator activity there. Just herbivores. Do you have any idea what this thing could be, Stew?" Natalie asked. "Well, I hate to say it, but based on the evidence we have… I think Scout is responsible." He replied. "WHAT?!" Amy yelled. "What makes you think it's his fault?! With the training we've given him, he wouldn't even consider harming an herbivore!" "I know, I know, but look at these scratches. A T-rex couldn't do that. Also, look at the tracks, they're SIMILAIR to a T-rex, but they're too big. Scout's biological parents were the last full grown Spinosaurs on the island that we know of, and the only carnivore left on this island bigger than a T-rex is Scout! So what options are left? I'm really sorry, Amy, but for everyone's safety, we're going to have to kill Scout so that he can't kill anything else." Natalie intervened. "I'm sorry, Amy, but Stew's right, it's just safer to not have him around, okay. I know it's hard, but we can't keep having Scout disrupt our research like this. It's for the best. Can you do this for us…for the baby?" While very sad, Amy knew that they were right. If Scout was responsible, it wasn't safe keeping him around. Still, she couldn't help but cry at the thought of having to lose him.

Soon after, Amy hopped into her car and led Scout to a clearing on the outer rim of the island. "Well Scout, I guess this is goodbye. I'm so sorry it has to be this way." Amy reached into her car and pulled out a gun carrying a dart which would kill Scout within a few minutes of impact. Raising the gun, Amy prepared to shoot as Scout stared at her innocently. A few minutes passed, and Amy still didn't fire. Eventually, she lowered the gun. "I just can't do it." She said. She then walked over to Scout and gave him a piece of meat. "Scout, you just stick around here, okay?" She then proceeded to remove Scout's tracking implant from his foot and threw it out into the ocean. "I'll be back, I promise."

Scout then simply watched as Amy proceeded to drive off back towards the treehouse.
