"Breakfast time!" Lyssa called. She released both of her pokémon and they began to eat their pokémon food.

Diana ran out of one of the three tents and towards the tent on her left. "Kori get out of there!" Diana ran towards the breakfast table. "Come out! It's breakfast time!" Diana yelled, throwing her pokéballs. Her pokémon materialized out of the objects and ate their food.

Kori, Chimchar and Oshawott came out of their tent. Kori rubbed the sleep out of her eyes as she led her two pokémon towards the breakfast table. The sleepy girl released three other pokémon. Altaria fluffed his wings, cleaning out the microscopic dirt before he began eating. Duskull, like usual, floated away from everyone else, except Cherrim. Both pokémon ate in companionable silence.

"So what's on today's agenda?" Lyssa asked before drinking her coffee.

Kori swallowed her egg before answering. "I need to start training for my gym battle."

Lyssa's interest was peaked. "Do you know anything about the Eterna city gym leader?"

Kori nodded. "The gym leader is a woman named Gardenia and she is a grass-type trainer."

Diana looked awed by the information. "How did you know all of that?"

"The Nurse Joy in Floraroma town told me," Kori explained.

"If you're battling a grass-type gym, you'll be at a disadvantage if you use Oshawott," Diana pointed out.

"Yeah," Kori said in agreement. "That's why I already decided to use Cherrim, Altaria and Chimchar."

"Osha!" The girls all looked at Oshawott. The little water-type looked so shocked, he dropped a piece of his food. "Oshawott?!"

"Oh come on Oshawott," Kori said. "You got to battle at the Oreburgh gym. Altaria is the only one who has never battled in a gym. Everyone has to get a chance to be in a gym battle."

Oshawott began flailing his limbs wildly. "Oshawott osha osha oshawott!"

Kori jumped out of her seat and slammed her hand on the table. "I already made my decision," Kori growled. "Deal with it!"

Everyone else stayed completely silent, surprised by Kori's response. Oshawott looked just as shocked as everyone else, then large, salty substances began leaking out of his eyes. Oshawott jumped out of his seat and ran away from them.

"Chim!" Chimchar called after Oshawott. The little water-type continue to run until he collapsed near a tree farther away from the campsite. Chimchar glared angrily at her trainer.

"What?" Kori asked Chimchar watched her with shining accusation.

"Don't you think you were a bit harsh?" Lyssa asked, chewing her breakfast.

"I was just trying to get my point across," Kori explained. She looked at Oshawott. "Oshawott needs to understand that I'm not changing my mind about the lineup."

"But... you hurt his feelings," Diana slowly pointed out.

"He's just upset because he won't battle at the Eterna Gym." Kori went back to eating. "Once he gets used to the idea, he'll be just fine."

No one responded. Diana, Lyssa and Chimchar shared a look, then they all looked towards the little Oshawott that was sitting near a tree.

The awkward breakfast finally ended, the girls divided the chores amongst themselves; Kori collected all the dirty dishes, Lyssa began to put away supplied and things, and Diana went out some buckets to a nearby river to get some water for the camp. Diana decided to bring both Turtwig and Shinx with her to help.

As soon as they made it towards the river, Diana began to fill the buckets with water. When Diana was about to fill the first bucket, the bucket hit so hard that Diana ended up falling backwards. Her pokémon became concerned.

"Twig?" Turtwig asked, wanting to know if his trainer was alright.

Diana groaned. "I'm fine." Diana sat up in sitting position. "What hit me?"

Shinx growled. Diana looked at the electric- type, completely shocked. The girl thought that Shinx had been growling at her, but she soon realized that he wasn't even looking at her. He was looking into the river. Something was in that river. She got up from the ground and looked into the river herself.

In the body of water, there was a tan, fish-like pokémon glaring at them. It was old- looking, had blue fins. On its head, there was a tall, blue arch- shaped fin on its back. There were several dark brown spots in its body. The eyes were white with small, dark pupils. It also had pink, puckered lips.

"Who's that pokémon?" Diana asked, pulling out her pokédex.

Feebas- the Fish Pokémon and the pre- evolved form of Milotic. Although extremely ragged, it is a tough pokémon that can live in almost any kind of water.

Diana was shocked. "That pokémon evolves into Milotic. But it doesn't look anything like Milotic." Diana looked back at Feebas. It was still glaring at her. It didn't seem to like her very much…

But it can evolve into Milotic. With the right training it could do really well in Contests.

Diana made up her mind. She pulled an empty pokéball off her hip. Turtwig use Energy ball on Feebas," Diana commanded.

Turtwig opened his mouth and built up the energy to create the Energy ball. Turtwig threw the Energy ball at Feebas. Feebas countered by releasing a blue beam at the same time.

Diana had shielded her eyes when the attacks collided. Green and blue merged. Sparks dispersed into different directions. Wherever those sparks landed, bits of ice seemed to appear. After a few moments, Diana opened her eyes. "What was that attack?" Diana opened her pokédex.

"Ice beam," the pokédex identified. "It is an icy-cold beam of energy. It may also freeze the target solid."

Can't afford to mess around then, Diana thought. "Turtwig use Razor Leaf!"

Before Turtwig could even get the attack ready, he was frozen solid by another Ice beam.

"Turtwig!" Diana returned her starter to his pokéball. With Turtwig out of commision, there was only one left that could help her. "Shinx use Thundershock."

Shinx used Thundershock. Feebas countered with another Ice beam and, before Diana could call out another attack, Feebas winked at Shinx. Multiple pink hearts rushed towards Shinx, popping on impact. Diana became confused; it didn't look as if Shinx had been damaged in any way.

"Alright Shinx." Diana pointed at Feebas. "Use Thundershock again." Shinx did nothing. "Shinx use Thundershock." Again Shinx did nothing. "Shinx , why aren't you attacking?"

Shinx stumbled, almost like he was drunk. When Diana finally got a good look at the electric- type, she gasped in shock. There were hearts in his eyes… was Shinx blushing? "What's going on?" Diana pokédex beeped in her hand.

"Attract," the pokédex droned. "It is a normal- type move that makes an opponent of the opposite gender less likely to attach by causing the said pokémon to fall in love with the move's user."

Oh, Diana thought. This could be happening, The coordinator caught Feebas' eyes. The fish pokémon's eyes glinted menacingly. Anger coiled in Diana's stomach. Feebas knew that Shinx was in her control and that there was nothing Diana could do about it. It was infuriating and tortuous.

"Shinx snap out of it," Diana begged. "You have to use Thundershock."

"Shinx…," Shinx continued to not attack, instead he continued to admire Feebas. Feebas seemed to grin triumphantly; it knew that Feebas had this battle in the bag.

Feebas must have decided to put the hapless coordinator and her last pokémon out of their misery because it opened its mouth and hit Shinx with a green ball of energy. Shinx hit the ground and fell unconscious. Diana returned Shinx and fled from the area.

Feebas watched triumphantly as the girl ran away; no trainer was going to train her as long as she had a say.

"Alright then," Kori responded, staring at the three pokémon she chose for her next gym battle. "The next gym battle will be against a grass-type gym. So we're going to train to get ready for it."

Altaria and Cherrim yelled in excitement. Chimchar, on the other hand, kept looking at the very despondent Oshawott. The little water- type sat on the ground with his back facing everyone else. Duskull glided a little farther away, watching.

"Now let's get started!" Kori yelled, pumping her first. Lyssa couldn't help but to sigh at the girl's obvious enthusiasm; one would think Kori's never challenged a gym leader before.

"I think the best way to do this is to train the battle grass- types," Kori announced. "Since Cherrim is a grass-type, this will work out. Maybe Diana will let me borrow Turtwig to help…"

Speaking of Diana, where was she? She had went to get water a while ago. Lyssa had a feeling that something may have happened.

Just as Lyssa was about to get up and look for Diana, the girl ran into the clearing, as if the devil himself was giving chase. Even Kori took a moment from her pokémon training to look at the commotion. Diana stopped in front of Lyssa, hands over her knees and breathing heavily.

"Are you alright?" Lyssa asked. Kori ran over to Diana, followed by her pokémon. Diana tried to catch her breath before she explained what happened.

Diana told them both about her quest to gather some water; about the wild Feebas who beat her pokémon like it was nothing and how she planned on catching it.

"That Feebas is as good as mine," Diana claimed. "I'm going to catch it. I'm going after it right now."

Lyssa smiled. "This Feebas sounds interesting," she commented. "I'm going with you." Lyssa and Diana looked towards the last member of the trio, Kori sighed.

"I think I'm going to have to pass," Kori said regretfully. "I need to get some training in for my upcoming Gym battle," she explained, her eyes begging for understanding.

"Diana smiled. "I understand," she said, and she really meant it. Kori had always been a good and helpful friend. This gym battle was important to her, so who was she to get in the way of that?

Kori sighed. "Thanks," Kori said. She looked passed Diana and frowned. "Since I can't help you, maybe you can take Oshawott with you? He's been a little down since he found out he wasn't going to battle at the Eterna City Gym." Kori pointed past Diana. Diana and Lyssa looked towards that direction. Oshawott was slouched in front of that same tree with his back to everyone. Diana felt sweat drop from her forehead. "I take it you and Oshawott still haven't made up…?"

Kori scratched the back of her head. "I thought he needed more time to get over it," she weakly explained.

Diana and Lyssa raised their eyebrows in disbelief. Diana sighed. "I'll take Oshawott with me then. He'll probably get a kick out of fighting a really strong opponent like Feebas."

Kori smiled. "Thanks. I was going to ask to borrow Turtwig, to practice for that gym battle. but you may need him since he's a grass- type." Kori turned to Lyssa. "Would it be alright if I borrow Bidoof to practice with?"

"Sure." Lyssa released Bidoof from his pokéball. "Bidoof, can you please help Kori practice for her upcoming gym battle?"

Bidoof gave a salute. "Bidoof."

Lyssa smiled. "Thank you Bidoof." Lyssa handed the pokéball to Kori.

"Thank yo Lyssa. And thank you Bidoof. Good luck on catching that Feebas Diana."

"Thanks," Diana said with a smile. Diana and Lyssa walked towards Oshawott. "Hey Oshawott." Diana knelt down to the sea otter pokémon's level. Oshawott turned to face the coordinator.

"Wott?"

"I'm trying to catch this really strong water- type pokémon called Feebas. I was hoping that you would be able to help me out. What do yo say?"

Oshawott gave it some thought. He was still upset that Kori wouldn't let him battle at that gym. It reminded him of when Kori wasn't going to let him battle at that last gym, except now she yelled at him, like he was still some baby pokémon that's too weak to battle. Oshawott hated it; he's not some weak baby! And he was going to prove it. "Osha!" Oshawott exclaimed with determination.

"Good!" Diana yelled in excitement. "Then let's go and find that Feebas!" With that, Diana, Lyssa and Oshawott left the campsite to catch a wild Feebas!"

"Alright." Kori clapped her hands. "Gather around everyone!" All of the pokémon- even Duskull- surrounded her. "Today we're going to practice for that upcoming gym battle." She looked towards her three pokémon. "Chimchar, Cherrim and Altaria." The three mentioned pokémon let out a cry in response. "You three are going to be battling. Are you ready?"

"Chim!"

"Cherrim!"

"Altaria!"

"Now in order to win," Kori stated, "we're going to have to train." Kori looked at the other two pokémon in front of her. "You ready to help us train?"

Bidoof wagged his tail energetically. "Bidoof!"

Duskull floated around nervously. "Duskull." It looked ready to bolt.

Cherrim patted the ghost- type. "Rim cherrim cher," Cherrim said, telling Duskull that everything will be fine.

Duskull looked very weary. "Duskull dus…" His last trainer used to be very brutal during training…

"Cherrim!" Cherrim yelled. Kori was nothing like that! Duskull flinched. "Cher rim rim," Cherrim stated more gently. Kori really isn't anything like that at all. Everything will be fine.

Duskull still looked very nervous, but he's willing to take part in the training if his friend is sure it will be alright."

Kori allowed Duskull to settle down before she said anything else. "Now I already know all of the moves Duskull can use," Kori started. Kori looked towards Lyssa's Bidoof. "But I still don't know much about your moves, except Hyper Fang and Rollout." Kori considered her own pokémon for a moment. "Chimchar, you feel up to battling Bidoof?"

"Chimchar!" Chimchar jumped up and down energetically.

Kori grinned. "That's what I like to hear. Let's do this!"

Chimchar and Bidoof got into battle positions. The other pokémon watched from the sidelines and kori stood a little behind Chimchar. "Bidoof use whatever moves you want to. I'm only going to be giving Chimchar directions."

Bidoof nodded in understanding. "Bidoof."

Kori pointed towards the field. "Chimchar get started with Flame Wheel!"

Chimchar flipped into the and became surrounded by red flames. Chimchar rolled towards
Bidoof's position. Bidoof used Rollout to charge towards Kori. The two pokémon met each other halfway, rolling against each other in this power struggle. So far, it seemed to be a draw.

Eventually that ended in a draw when both pokémon were blown away by the force of those attacks. Chimchar lost the flames that covered her body as she fell through the air. Both her and Bidoof flipped through the air until they both landed on their feet.

"Chimchar use Flamethrower!" Kori commanded.

Chimchar took a deep breath. Bidoof tensed, preparing for the oncoming attack. Flames were released from Chimchar's mouth aimed towards Bidoof. Chimchar lost her footing just as she had the blast aimed towards her opponent. he fire-type's aim was thrown off and the Flamethrower ended up being released over Bidoof, missing him completely.

Chimchar left herself completely open to Bidoof's next attack. Bidoof used Roll out, and nailed Chimchar. Bidoof rolled around until he was in front of Chimchar and then rolled in place. Kori raised her arm, signalling that the battle was over Chimchar got up from the ground.

"Thank you Bidoof," Kori said to Lyssa's pokémon.

Bidoof smiled. "Bidoof."

Kori looked towards her starter. "Alright Chimchar," she began. "I've noticed that you're having some trouble controlling that Flamethrower of yours, but with all of the life threatening situations we were in, I've never had a chance to address it."

Chimchar thought back to Team Galactic and that Vespiquen in Eterna Forest. It really had been a crazy few days. Chimchar nodded in agreement.

"We'll need to work on that Flamethrower then," Kori stated. "For now, you take a break. Bidoof, do you want to take a break now? Or do you want to continue?"

"Bidoof," Bidoof stated, taking his battle stance.

"I'll just take that as a yes then," Kori murmured. "Altaria it's your turn."

Altaria flew in front of his trainer, then the training commenced.

Diana, Lyssa and Oshawott walked towards the river that Diana encountered the wild Feebas.

"This is it," Diana said, pointing at lake. So far Feebas seems to have left since Diana's last face off with it. It Diana wish she had thought to get a fishing rod for her journey.

Lyssa studied the river. Since it was unlikely that Feebas actually left that river, that left only one solution. "Oshawott," Lyssa asked, bending down to the smaller pokémon's level, "do you think you can swim after it?"

Oshawott nodded confidently. So he's never went swimming before, but how difficult could it be? Oshawott jumped into the river. Lyssa pulled out a miniature pokéball and pressed the button in the center, making bigger in her hand.

"Come on out Corsola," Lyssa said, throwing the pokéball in the air. Corsola was released and dived into the river. Her head came out of the water.

"Please look for Feebas Corsola. Come back after you find it."

"Corsola." The coral pokémon dived back into the river.

"Oshawott." The sea other pokémon avidly watched the school of Goldeen that swam past him. Other creatures such as Poliwag and their evolutionary form Poliwhirl were playing and having fun together. When a shadow started to loom over Oshawott, he looked up to see a group of Remoraid swimming above him. Oshawott wanted to join them very much; he had no idea swimming could be so fun. The sun shining from above made the blue water glow. The water was warm and its presence in his lungs felt so natural to him, as if to tell him he had come home. He couldn't believe that he had never done this before. "Osha…"

"Corsola." Oshawott turned Corsola swam towards him. "Sola cor corsola," she stated, reminding him that he wasn't just here to have fun. They still had to find Feebas.

Oshawott scratched his head bashfully. "Osha."

Corsola swam past Oshawott and the younger pokémon followed. They hadn't needed to swim very far before Corsola spotted a brown tattered looking fish with blue fins. Feebas seemed to be the only one of its kind here. "Corsola," she whispered to Oshawott. Oshawott looked the tattered looking pokémon.

"Wot?" That's what they were looking for? This Feebas didn't look very special.

"Corsola cor corsola," she said. You shouldn't judge the other pokémon based on looks. "Corsola." We need to find the girls.

Oshawott nodded. "Osha." With that, the two pokémon swam away towards the surface.

Diana paced up and down the river. Lyssa sighed. "Stop doing that already? It's making me nervous."

"They've been gone for a little while now," Diana pointed out. "Do you think they're having any trouble finding Feebas?"

Lyssa sat on the ground. "Corsola and Oshawott haven't been gone that long." She pulled her glasses off and began wiping them clean with a cloth. "Just give them a little more time. They'll come back to tell us when they do find Feebas. Besides what does pacing actually help?"

Diana stopped pacing. Lyssa was right she thought. Oshawott and Corsola will come back with news. She just hoped it was soon.

Suddenly, two familiar faces popped out of the water. Diana wanted to jump and dance in happiness. "Did you find it.?"

Oshawott nodded. "Osha."

Lyssa got up from the ground. "That's great. Now we just have to get Feebas to come up to the surface."

Diana held her index finger and thumb under her chin. "But how exactly do we do that?"

Lyssa grinned. "I've got an idea" Everyone came closer and listen as Lyssa told them her plan.

Feebas swam at a leisurely pace. Besides being bothered by that trainer and her pathetic pokémon, this has been a nice day, but now Feebas is in a bad mood.

Nothing made Feebas more angrier than trainers. They were all the same. They all catch Feebas like her and her brethren because they all want a cod or beautiful pokémon like Milotic. Then they'll train them to use powerful moves like Ice Beam or Dragon Pulse, hoping that all that will help the Feebas evolve into Milotic. And when it doesn't work, then trainers will lose their patience and abandon the Feebas, like it was their fault that the Feebas wasn't evolving. What those idiots don't understand is that evolution of Feebas isn't as simple as training to get experience.

Some pokémon could evolve after training and gaining battle experience. Some could use evolutionary stones or special items to cause a reaction that results in evolution. Others even evolve while they were being traded. Feebas weren't like any other pokémon because unlike the other pokémon, only when feeling beautiful can Feebas evolve.

Feebas remembered when her mother had told her that. She is still as confused by what her mother said as she was when she first heard it. She wasn't blind; Feebas as a whole were pretty ugly creatures. It was the truth. So how could a Feebas ever feel beautiful? "Feebas…"

At that moment, Feebas could hear something coming towards her. Feebas saw a bit of air rishing towards her. She dodged it at the last moment. "Fee!" Feebas turned towards where the attack originated.

Oshawott began making faces at Feebas. The fish pokémon was becoming very angry. "Osha osha osh-a," he taunted in a singsong voice before swimming away. Feebas swam after him. The plan was working. Oshawott swam closer to the surface to avoid a green attack Feebas sent towards him. Oshawott felt the heat of the blast as it dispersed. He could only imagine what would have happened to him had that attack actually hit. "Osha…" He hoped he could make it without taking any damage.

Corsola jumped out of the water. Lyssa knelt down. "Did Feebas follow?"

Corsola nodded. "Corsola cor." The plan was working; Feebas was chasing after Oshawott while he was luring her towards the surface.

Lyssa smiled. "Thanks Corsola." Lyssa returned Corsola to her pokémon. She stood up and turned to face Diana. "It's all going according to plan," she said. "Feebas will be coming up to the surface soon, so choose one of your pokémon to battle."

Diana nodded. She pulled out one of her pokéballs. "Let's start the show Shinx." Shinx was released from the pokéball in front of his trainer. "We're about to get some payback against that Feebas for last time."

Shinx growled as he remembered the humiliating defeat that he suffered last time he fought that overgrown fish. "Shinx…"

"I knew you'd want a rematch Shinx." Diana pointed towards the water. "Feebas is going to come up from the water, so get ready."

"Shinx." Shinx tensed, electricity started sparking.

A figure jumped out of the water. Diana almost commanded Shinx to use an attack before she realized that it was Oshawott. Oshawott landed right next to Shinx and shook himself dry, wetting Diana, Lyssa and Shinx. The girls were about to scold him, when Feebas also jumped out of the water.

"Shinx use Swift!" Diana yelled, pointing at Feebas. Shinx whipped his tail to the side, throwing golden stars towards Feebas, hitting the airborne water-type pokémon.

"Feebas!" Feebas fell out of the sky and back into the water. Everyone waited for Feebas to resurface. Feebas became angry when she realized that she had been tricked by that stupid trainer from earlier. "Bas…" She planned on making that little bitch pay. Feebas stopped her descent and zoomed towards the water, Feebas charged a greenish blast in her mouth and threw it at the two girls and the two pokémon. Everyone managed to dodge the attack. It left a scorch mark in the grass.

Diana pulled out her pokédex. "What is that attack?"

The device answered. "Dragon Pulse," it said. "A dragon- type attack. An opposing pokémon is attached by a shock wave generated by a pokémon's mouth."

Lyssa whistled. "That's a pretty powerful attack."

Feebas wasn't finished there. She winked at Shinx. Familiar pink hearts started flying towards the electric-type.

Not this time. Diana smirked. "Use Swift!" Shinx used Swift; the stars collided with the hearts, dispersing the stars and heart into pink and gold dust. Now it was time to finish this up. "Now use Thundershock!" Full power!"

Shinx charged up yellowish energy towards his body. The electric energy flew towards Feebas. The water-type cried out in pain caused by the super effective attack. The river that Feebas was in made the already powerful attack even more unbearable for the water-type. Feebas could feel her strength leaving her.

Lyssa watched as the Feebas was weakening. "Now's your chance Diana!"

Diana pulled out an empty pokéball and threw it at Feebas. The unconscious pokémon was transformed into red light and sucked into the pokéball. The device landed on the ground in front of Diana. Everyone watched with bated breaths as the ball rolled from side to side. The longer this went on, the more Diana feared that Feebas was actually going to break free. The ball continued to shake until a resounding click was heard and the ball went still. Diana waited ten seconds before she picked up the pokéball. She smiled. "I finally caught Feebas!" She exclaimed holding up the pokéball. Diana grinned at Shinx. "We finally did it Shinx!"

"Shinx!" Shinx jumped into his trainer's arms. Diana hugged him.

Lyssa and Oshawott happily watched the scene, happy for the pair. After battling a tough pokémon like Feebas and catching it, they deserved to bask in this moment.

The sun was setting. Kori had finished cooking the soup for dinner. Bowls of poké chow were waiting for all of the pokémon. Kori and the pokémon with her had just finished setting up the table when Diana, Lyssa and Oshawott had come back to camp.

"Did you catch Feebas?" Kori asked.

Diana sat at the table. "I sure did," she said with a smile. "Oshawott was a really big help."

Kori looked towards the Unova starter. He had just started eating his food without even sparing her a glance. Looks like he's still mad about earlier. "That's great." Kori addressed Oshawott next. "Hey Oshawott." Oshawott looked up to her. "Can I speak with you? I promise I'll make it quick."

Oshawott said nothing in response. Kori sighed and led him away from the camp. Once she decided that they were far away enough from the other, she knelt in front of the smaller pokémon.

"I want to apologize for yelling at you earlier." Oshawott looked at her. "I didn't mean to hurt your feelings. I don't want you to think that I didn't pick you for the upcoming gym battle because I think you're too weak or something."

"Osha?" Oshawott had thought that had been it.

"No." Kori gestured to him and herself. "You, me, Chimchar and the others… we're a team. We need each other in order to beat the other Gyms and get to the Pokémon League. The reason I picked the other three is because I think they'll be able to do a good job at the Eterna City Gym. Also because Altaria still hasn't gotten to battle in a Gym." Kori petted Oshawott's head. "What I'm trying to say is that there will be other gym battles; other chances for every one of you to battle. We're a team. We all have different strengths and weaknesses. That's why we all have to support one another; even if that means that some of you won't battle. Does that make sense Oshawott?"

Oshawott thought about everything his trainer said. So the others got to battle at Eterna because we're a team and even if he couldn't battle, he could still support them right now. Oshawott smiled at his trainer. "Osha!"

Kori grinned. "Good." A loud gurgling sound could be heard from both trainer's and pokémon's tummies. "Now let's go back to camp. I'm starving."

While Kori had been training extra hard for her upcoming gym battle. Diana managed to catch a powerful and elusive Feebas. Together, each girl takes one more step closer to their goals.
