Kind of going with the flow of this story. There will be a background to all of this and some of it may not match up to facts in the books but it's not meant to. This is a completely different story, just remember that. Anyway, I hope you enjoy it and please review.

Skulduggery strolled into Valkyrie's kitchen where Ghastly and Tanith spoke cheerfully at the table and Valkyrie poured tea. He dropped a stack of Manila folders onto the table and they landed with a loud slap making everyone silent.

"What is this?" Ghastly asked as picked up a random folder and began reading its contents.

"These, my dear friend, are the files of Billy-ray Sanguine and Caelan the wretched vampire as well as a few others that may be of interest," Skulduggery stared at the files and sighed. "I spent the night trying to find a connection between the two or figure out what they're planning that requires these two to band together."

"What did you find?" Ghastly asked.

"Nothing," Skulduggery growled. "It is most frustrating for me as I'm sure you can imagine, however, I will figure it out."

"Caelan didn't say much. Just rambled on about how I broke his heart and I was the only one who made him forget what a monster he is. Which is funny since he played a major role in kicking my ass," Valkyrie grumbled as she limped her way over to the table with three cups of tea balancing between her hands.

"What about Sanguine, did he say anything?" Ghastly asked. Tanith sank lower in her seat, still ashamed of her relationship with him.

Valkyrie hesitated, trying to think whether he had said something. She replayed the scene in her head. Caelan approached her slowly and Valkyrie stood in a prepared stance. He lunged at her while growling about how much he had loved her. After putting up a fight Sanguine joined them. Distracted, Caelan managed to get Valkyrie in a headlock and while her vision blurred along with the lack of oxygen it was hard to hear anything. Sanguine stabbed her and laid on the floor, almost unconscious.

Valkyrie's eyes lit up and a vengeful smile played across her lips.

"What is it?" Skulduggery asked and tilted his head to the left.

"After Sanguine stabbed me they thought I was unconscious but I wasn't... Yet. Sanguine ordered Caelan to call 'him' and so I heard Caelan talking to this guy. Caelan hung up and told Sanguine that this guy said to leave me as a message to you all that bad things were coming," Valkyrie explained.

"Do you know who they were talking to?" Tanith asked eagerly.

Valkyrie looked at the three before replying, the mystery man's name echoing in her mind. "Do you know of a man called Alistair Marillac?"

Ghastly coughed and almost choked on his tea. He stared, almost wide-eyed, at Skulduggery and it made Valkyrie's heart jump.

"Alistair," Skulduggery murmured almost as if to reminisce. "Alistair Marillac is the original sorcerer. The first one and a dangerous one at that."

Now it was Valkyrie's turn to almost choke. "The very first sorcerer?! Like, ever?" Valkyrie replied incredulously. Tanith remained silent and played with her empty teacup.

"It can't be, Alistair is dead. He died long ago," Ghastly stammered.

"Well, apparently he's back and he wants revenge," Skulduggery said.
