Blast From the Past
Days later when everyone returned to the city after Sarah Grace and the Castle kids returned to school; Castle and Beckett by extension got a blast from the past when Castle's ex-girlfriend Kyra Blaine was getting coffee at the same Starbucks that Castle and Beckett were at. Beckett was getting a vanilla latte while Castle was getting an espresso.
"Rick; is that you?" Kyra said as she came up behind the duo.
Castle turned around and saw his ex behind him.
"Kyra. Crazy bumping into you here…how's Greg?"
"He's great."
Beckett cleared his throat.
"You remember Beckett, right?"
"Yes; it's nice to see you again Detective Beckett."
"Captain." Castle and Beckett said in unison.
There was an awkward pause.
"It's nice to see you again too; Kyra."
Beckett was a bit uneasy at the moment.
"So what's going with you; Rick? How's your mother? Did you ever settle down again?"
"I'm good. Mother is good, she lives across the hallway from us…"
"Us?" Kyra questioned.
"Yeah us; Kate and I are married, almost eleven years now."
"Well congratulations. Do you two have any kids?"
"We have five."
"Five?"
"Well there's Alexis from my marriage to Meredith and then Kate and I have four of our own. Johanna Martha, Katherine Mae, Jackson James and James Royce."
The trio talked some more and Beckett got a bit more uneasy as the conversation progressed. Soon after the discussion with Kyra had ended Castle and Beckett got their coffees and left. Castle noticed that there was something up when they got to the car.
Castle asked Beckett what was wrong and she explained.
"There's nothing to worry about; Kate. I'm all yours. Always. You won years ago."
Beckett laughed.
"Yeah I guess I did win; babe."
Castle looked at Beckett as they headed back to their empty loft. It would take some time for them to get use to not having the kids around during the day when they both were home. Ryan and Jenny still had a number of years before their sons were in school all day long like their older sister. Same went for Lanie and Espo.
