Difficult Visit
"Meredith, what are you doing here?" Castle asked once the shock had worn off.
"Richard, Kate; it's a pleasure to see you again."
Martha just rolled her eyes at her former daughter in law as she returned to her coffee. If it wasn't for the minor detail that Meredith was Alexis' mother biologically speaking; then Martha wouldn't be this cordial to her former daughter in law.
"Meredith; what are you doing here?" Castle asked again.
"I'm moving back to New York. LA got a bit boring and I need a new challenge."
Martha rolled her eyes again as her son flashbacked.
"I'm moving back."
"Back to New York?"
"I miss it. I miss it, I miss Alexis, I miss you."
"Um, what about your career?"
"Oh, LA's changed. The juicy roles just aren't there for an actress of my caliber. I need a change, like Broadway maybe? The legitimate stage."
"Yeah well… ah… woah… time out… hold on, have you really thought this through?"
"What's to think about? You, me, Alexis, all living in the same city. It's going to be just like old times."
"There's no reason why Alexis shouldn't have both of her parents in the same city." Meredith said.
"She has both of her parents in the same city." Beckett cockily muttered under her breath so that Meredith wouldn't it.
Martha clearly heard it what Beckett had muttered and she was quite proud of Beckett.
It was in that moment that Castle connected the dots once again.
"I'm not co-signing a lease for you. We're divorced. I don't have to sign anything."
As Castle said this to his ex-wife; Martha dialed her eldest granddaughter up to let her know that Meredith was back in town and causing hell.
Over at Alexis and Jake's; Jake saw a change in his wife instantly.
"What's wrong?"
"We have to get to my parents' loft now."
"Why? What's wrong?"
"I'll explain later. We have to go now."
The duo wasted no time after that. They were at the loft in a matter of seconds.
When Meredith saw the look of displeasure on her daughter's face; she realized she had made a mistake in coming to New York.
"I'll be leaving now."
With that Meredith somewhat gracefully bowed out of the loft when she saw that she interrupted the new lives her ex-husband and her daughter had created without her. Meredith knew she didn't belong with them anymore.
