That night, Pumbaa managed to get himself out of the river, dragging a limp Timon and an unconscious Shenzi, who was face-down, behind him. He collapsed and coughed up some water before he heard Timon groan, coming to. He turned around, and saw him holding a lily in a death-like pose. Unfortunately, Shenzi was still out cold, and soaked to the bone.
"Timon, you okay?" Pumbaa asked him.
"Ugh, I give up!" The meerkat decided.
"But, but you can't give up! We still haven't found our dream home."
"Forget it, Pumbaa. I've been dragging you and Shenzi down long enough. We're goin' home; And I suggest you do the same," Timon said.
"Oh, I, I would if I could, but I can't," Pumbaa told him.
"Oh, sure you can, buddy. I won't stop you."
"No, I mean… I don't have a home."
"You don't? What happened, are you lost?" Pumbaa shook his head at Timon's question, his snout flapping from side to side. "No place good enough for ya?" He shook his head again. "What, you're all alone in this big, empty world?" Pumbaa turned and looked at him with big, dewy, sad eyes. "Oh," Timon finally stood up, and walked up to him. "Truth is… I'm all alone too… besides with Shenzi," He quickly added, before he took the warthog's foreleg, "Pumbaa, you're the only friend I've ever had… besides Shenzi," He quickly added.
"Y-you mean…?" Pumbaa started brightening up.
"Yeah Pumbaa… and friends stick together to the end." The duo gazed into each other's eyes while sniffling emotionally.
Suddenly, the movie was paused by Pumbaa, who noticed that Timon was crying while hunched over. "Timon? Are you crying?" He asked him in a shocked tone.
"I'm fine!" Timon sobbed, "I, I just have something in my eye," He claimed.
"Here, blow," Pumbaa handed him a hanky. Timon blew his nose on it, then held it back out.
"Here Shenzi."
"Gee, thanks!" She said sarcastically.
"Okay," He started getting a hold of himself, "I'm better," He played the movie again.
After a second or two, the duo remembered something, or someone, very important to the both of them, making them snap out of their trances.
"Shenzi!" They both exclaimed before they ran up to her; She was still unconscious.
"Uh, w-what do we do?" Timon asked Pumbaa frantically.
"You should give her CPR!" Pumbaa told him.
"I should give her CPR!" Timon said like he thought of it himself. "You pump on her chest, I'll supply some air for her!" He carefully set her on her back, pulled her chin down a bit, and breathed into her mouth, as Pumbaa carefully pumped on her chest, as they were alternating.
Thankfully, after a few tries, the tiny hyena coughed and choked up some water, accidentally splashing Timon's face a bit in the process, with some water coming out of her nose.
After she breathed in and out harshly, catching her breath, she rolled over and sat up on her backside and hind legs. "Wha-what happened?" She wheezed out. Timon suddenly lunged forward, and hugged her tightly, followed by Pumbaa.
"Thank goodness you're okay," Timon said to her.
"We thought you were dead!" Pumbaa blurted out.
"We did?" The meerkat looked up at him with a confused expression. He didn't remember hearing anything about her being supposedly dead.
"Well, never mind."
"Okay," Shenzi giggled, sounding wiped out, which she was, "What do you guys say we get some sleep?" The boys obliged, and Timon slept closer to Shenzi than usual, keeping a close eye on her.
The next morning, Timon woke up first, cracking his back. "Aw, well. It's too bad we never found that perfect place. Why'd we ever listen to that stupid monkey?"
Pumbaa woke up, and suddenly gasped at what he saw. "I think maybe you're giving up too soon, Timon!" He smiled triumphantly.
"Beyond what you see," Timon sneered before Pumbaa spun his head around, and he widened his eyes at what he saw; A gorgeous jungle, with waterfalls, lush lakes, and rivers.
"Remember that place I told you about?"
"Forget about your place, get a load of what I found!" Timon exclaimed, "Talk about beyond what you see!"
"Shenzi, wake up!" Pumbaa yelled excitedly, and the tiny hyena shot up with her eyes barely open at the mention of her name.
"Wha-? What is…" She widened her eyes as she saw the paradise before, "Whoa!"
"Guys, this is our dream home!" Timon exclaimed. He pulled some vines aside like curtains, "Dramatic views!" He pulled some vines taut, so Pumbaa swung on them, "Your very own porch swing!" The trio relaxed in a bubbling pool, "Hot tub and spa!" Timon then pulled a small portion of a tree open, revealing a bunch of bugs, "Well-stocked cupboard!"
Pumbaa slurped them all up, "Let's celebrate!" Timon was relaxing on a vine stretched across the river like a hammock.
"The monkey was right," He said, "We found it; the perfect life," He dove down backwards into the water. Pumbaa was wearing a chef hat made of leaves, and was stacking bugs on a skewer.
"I'll just whip up a little something," He announced.
"He had the perfect name for it too," Timon remarked as he dried himself off with a leaf.
"Come and get it!" Pumbaa tossed some bugs in a leaf-like bowl, and set it on a tree stump that doubled as a table. Shenzi came up from the river, and sat at the stump.
"Such a wonderful phrase," Timon remarked, "It had this rhythm," He tried to remember the phrase, "Laduda Ladada."
"Try this… Hot Tuna Frittata," Pumbaa held out a leaf-dish to him.
"Hmm… no that's not it," Timon wasn't paying attention to him.
"The spinach armada," The warthog added another bowl of bugs.
"Quiet, Pumbaa. I'm tryin' to think."
"A spoon of ricotta."
"2 words…"
"A wormy piccata."
"6 syllables…"
"Kahuna Colada."
"12 letters…"
"A blue enchilada."
"Rhymes with…"
"Legumes on a platter."
"Think, think, think…"
"This oughta be hotter," Pumbaa was poking at one of the dishes.
"I forget," The meerkat had one hand over his eyes in desperation.
"I gotta lambada!" Pumbaa danced sideways until he bumped into Timon, who grabbed his snout and pulled him down to his level. Shenzi giggled at his dancing.
"Hey! How can you dance at a time like this?! I'm dyin' here!" Timon yelled. After realizing he went too far, he let go of his snout, and backed off. "Ooh, sorry about that, pal."
"Ah, Hakuna Matata," Pumbaa brushed it off nonchalantly.
Timon shook his head in confusion, "Come again?"
"Hakuna Matata; it means no worries. Eh… ohhh," Pumbaa then realized that was Timon was stressing about. The threesome started swinging on vines, but the movie was paused when they were in midair.
"Hey guys, I got an idea," Pumbaa piped up, "Let's do a sing-along!"
"Oh, you tease," Timon replied, as the subtitles appeared, with a ladybug, "I love karaoke! I'm there." Shenzi nodded in agreement.
"Hakuna Matata
What a wonderful phrase
Hakuna Matata
Ain't no passin' craze!" They all sang together as the screen showed a montage of them enjoying their carefree life. They boogied under the stars at night, drank milk from coconuts, Pumbaa ran around with Timon and Shenzi on his back, and they all swung on vines.
Little did Timon and Shenzi initially know, the ladybug disappeared after dancing over the word "craze."
"It means no worries, for the rest of your day-Wait a second," Timon was singing solo when he realized that the ladybug was gone, as he paused the movie. "Pumbaa, where's the grub?" The warthog hung his mouth open, and the ladybug staggered out. Shenzi giggled at the sight. "You just can't help yourself, can you?"
"Sorry."
"Ohhh," Timon sighed exasperatedly, "Okay… but this time, show a little self-control," He told him before he played the movie.
"Hakuna Matata! Ha-haah!" He sang solo, as it showed the trio sliding down a waterfall, before they started bungee jumping, and screaming along the way, Shenzi enjoying it all.
"It means no worries
For the rest of your days" It showed the threesome gliding in the air, holding leaves up, with Shenzi having her arms around Timon's neck.
It's our problem-free
Philosophy," Timon and Pumbaa were unknowingly slurping up the same worm, and didn't realize it until their lips touched. They turned away in disgust, as Shenzi cracked up laughing.
Hakuna Matata!" They all continued together,
"Hakuna Matata
Hakuna Matata
Hakuna Matata
Hakuna Matata
Hakuna Matata
Hakuna Matata
Hakuna Matata..." They all chanted as it showed them shuffling along a log.
Back at the "Pit of Shame"…
"Hahuna Ma-whata?" Ma asked, taken back.
"Oh ho ho ho ho; It means "No worries,"" Rafiki told her.
"I see…" She was skeptical.
"So, I told the boy and his girl: To find Hakuna Matata, you must look beyond what you see."
"Ohh, a metaphor," She finally understood.
"Well, actually, it's not a meta…" Rafiki started, but Ma clocked him on the head with his own stick, and pulled him to her level by his goatee.
"You used a metaphor on them?!" She yelled, "They take things literally! That's it; They're starving out there, I just know it! Max, Vitawny! Timon and Shenzi are out there, chasing metaphors! I've gotta go find them!"
"Are you nuts?!" Max and Vitawny's voices yelled out from the hole they were currently in.
"Nice to have a supportive family, isn't it?" Ma said to herself in a disgusted tone, before she started getting determined, "Well, here I go."
"Remember, the journey of a thousand miles begins with the first step," Rafiki told her sagely.
"Thanks," Ma smiled, "Here's my first step," She jumped down squarely on his foot.
(A/N: The original movie and its characters don't belong to me, but Vitawny and the jackals do. I had to add a Timon/Shenzi moment in here, okay? X3)
