Remembrance

September 11th had come around once again. Today was a quiet day for everyone. Castle and Beckett along with Ryan and Jenny had decided to keep the kids home from school today. Beckett, Ryan, Espo and Lanie all took the day off as well. Gates even took the day off. Perlmutter took care of things at the Medical Examiner's office. The 54th and the 12th still operated at full capacity; they just operated without their respective captains and the one didn't have two of its detectives.

Gates, Beckett and the boys all had the black strap on their badges today. Everyone felt it was important to be with their families on a day like this one. Castle had asked Alexis and Jake to come over to spend the day with them. The game plan was for the family to head over to the National September 11 Memorial and Museum like they had every year since Johanna Martha was born. It was important to Beckett and Castle that their kids knew about the events of that fateful day back in September of 2001 since they weren't around like Alexis was.

Now Johanna Martha and the twins understood what had transpired on September 11th all those years ago. They were older now so it was easier for them. James Royce on the other hand just took it as some very bad people did a very bad thing and a lot of people died because it. The family was walking through the museum when a question came to James Royce's mind.

"Mommy and Daddy; what happened on September 11th?"

Having lived through that day; Castle, Beckett, Martha, Alexis and Jake always relieved the events of that day in their minds when the anniversary came around. As Castle and Beckett started to explain everything to their youngest; Martha kept all of her grandkids and her son nearby.

With everything going on today; something also came to Martha's mind.

"If anything happens to them…"

"He's a smart kid. And she's good at what she does. No, they'll be fine. I promise."

"Forgive me, but your promises don't mean very much."

That moment between her and her son's father seemed to come to Martha for some odd strange reason.
