Quite a while later, the family were still sleeping in the morning after a long day. A now adolescent Simba yawned and stretched his arms out, showing his now impressive teeth and claws.
"Whoa!" Timon and Shenzi shot awake, being in the area of impact of his breathing, "Watch where you aim that morning breath!" Timon told him, waving his hand in front of his face, "That should come with a warning label. Whoo!"
"What a wake-up call!" Shenzi remarked as they curled up, and tried to go back to sleep.
"Looks like two some ones woke up on the wrong side of the warthog," Simba chuckled, "What's the matter, Mom, Pops? Had a little too much Hakuna Matata?"
"Ooh. Sonny boy, I invented Hakuna Matata," Timon told him, with his eyes shut.
"Oh yeah? Well I perfected it," The lion said smugly.
"Sure you did, sure you did," Timon said, "Pumbaa, who holds the record for the world's longest bug belch?"
"Uh, that would be Simba," Pumbaa said, starting to wake up.
"All righty then," The meerkat was mildly surprised, "Who's the champion at slug swallowing?"
"Simba again."
Timon bolted upright in surprise, "Cricket crunching?"
"Simba."
"Grub gulping?"
"Simba."
"Maggot munching?"
"Still Simba," Shenzi smirked.
"Snail slurping?!" Timon started sweating in trepidation.
"Oh uh, nobody," Pumbaa looked up at them, "We never had a snail slurping contest before."
Later, Simba and Timon were getting ready for just that. They narrowed their eyes at each other, and flexed their paws/hands in a gunslinger way.
All the while, Pumbaa and Shenzi were cowering in the bushes, "I don't think this is such a good idea," Pumbaa remarked in a worried tone.
Then the contest began; Simba slurped up a snail right out of its shell, leaving slime on his chin, and slammed the shell down, and leered at Timon. The meerkat yawned theatrically, then slurped up another snail, and folded his arms defiantly.
Simba then showed 4 snails in his paw, then slurped them all down in a rapid-fire, before tossing the shells down, and grinning devilishly. Timon stared in amazement, one eye twitching, before he slurped up 4 more snails, and swatted the shells away, grinning a bit insanely.
In the bushes, Shenzi and Pumbaa looked back and forth as they slurped and slurped and slurped some more, before they sank down in trepidation.
With Simba and Timon, they each had only one snail left. Simba grabbed his, and shuddered before he slurped it up. He belched loudly before tossing the shell away with a drunken smirk.
Timon then grabbed his, but when he gazed at it, it morphed into Pumbaa in his imagination.
"I told you this wasn't such a good idea!" His vision said. Timon suddenly gagged, covering his mouth with his free hand, before tottering and collapsing on his back, tossing his snail on the stump, so it crawled away.
"Thus did the pupil surpass the teacher," Pumbaa narrated.
"You've been hanging around with the monkey again, haven't you?" Timon questioned him. Pumbaa and Shenzi came to check on him. They helped him up, as Simba was swaggering away with pride.
"Our Simba is growing up," Timon remarked. "Is this the little boy I carried?" He started singing.
"When did he grow to be so tall?" Pumbaa started as well.
"Wasn't it yesterday when he was small?" They both sang together.
The group were jumping high up from vines like a trampoline. Timon came up first, followed by Pumbaa, Shenzi, and a now full-grown Simba. When all 4 of them bounced up simultaneously, Simba grabbed Timon, Shenzi, and Pumbaa into a midair embrace.
Later that night, they were admiring all the stars in the sky.
The next day, they were all hanging on vines, with Simba gently pushing them, so they were swinging.
Later, Simba and Pumbaa were relaxing in the bubbling pool.
"… So you see, that's why they call it a "dung beetle,"" Pumbaa finished telling Simba.
"Eww, you don't say," He grimaced, "And yet, still so tasty!"
"Oh yeah," Pumbaa agreed, "And they're my favorite, too."
Timon came up to the pool, with a leaf around his middle like a towel. He tossed it away, before dipping his toe in the water, and easing himself in. "Ahhhh!" He relaxed, "Just what the doctor ordered." Then Shenzi came up, and she had a monarch butterfly tied to the front of her chest with tiny vines as straps like a swim top. She eased herself into the pool next to Timon.
"Is that butterfly dead, Mom?" Simba asked her.
Before she answered, the butterfly started flapping its wings rapidly. She jumped in surprise before punching it hard, making it stop, "It's dead now," She shrugged, smirking.
"After a long day of doing nothing, it's good to kick back," Pumbaa remarked.
"4 pals, and no worries," Simba smiled, "What more could you want?"
"Aahhh," They all sighed contently.
"Aaah-hhh-hh," Pumbaa yawned luxuriantly after a few seconds, scratching himself, "I'm bushed. Think I'll turn in for the night." When he climbed out, the bubbling immediately stopped. Realization dawned on the others as they watched him walk away, facing away from them, and stared at the water in horror.
"I'm out!" Timon jumped out of the pool. "Right behind ya!" Simba jumped out as well. "Me too!" Shenzi followed their lead, whipping the butterfly off her chest, and leaving it by the pool for next time.
That night, Simba pounced on Pumbaa on their bed-stump, and Timon and Shenzi gathered on top of him, and rolled around a bit until Timon was on top of Shenzi.
"You're killing me!" Pumbaa laughed after Simba gave him a playful noogie. Shenzi burst into giggles and kicked her legs when Timon tickled her sides and stomach until she pushed him down on his back next to her. Eventually, they all start relaxing.
"… Timon, it's your turn to say "Good Night,"" Pumbaa piped up.
"Good night."
"Sleep tight," Simba smiled.
"Dream of bedbugs tonight," Pumbaa replied before he immediately fell asleep. Simba rolled over, and nearly squashed him between his arm and body, but the warthog stayed asleep.
When his paw slipped off of Timon and Shenzi, the meerkat sleepily reached down, and pulled it back up like a blanket, covering himself and his friend. He laid his cheek on Shenzi's head between her ears, who just smiled, and leaned her head on his shoulder.
"Ahh, you gotta admit, we had a pretty good thing goin' there," Timon narrated.
"We coulda gone on like that forever," Pumbaa narrated with him.
"Except for one teeny weeny thing we forgot to count on," Timon continued.
(A/N: Cliffhanger, haha. XD Except it isn't really one, because you all know what's, or who's, coming next. XD Anyway, the original movie and its characters don't belong to me.)
