Feast
Thanksgiving had arrived. All four kids had gotten up early to watch Macy's Thanksgiving Day parade while the adults prepped and cooked. Jim, Alexis and Jake were on their way over. Martha was on her third or fourth glass of wine while Castle and Beckett trailed behind her in that department.
When Jim, Alexis and Jake had arrived; Martha made sure they had drinks. The holidays had gotten a lot easier for Beckett and Jim now that everything with Bracken was squared away.
Beckett had looked over to the picture of her mother in the living room a few times before Jim had arrived. And when he did; Beckett had caught him looking at the picture a couple of times. The picture was in a customized silver frame Castle had gotten for Beckett as an anniversary gift one year. He had it inscribed with one of Johanna's sayings.
"You know, Castle, my mom had a saying. Vincit Omnia Veritas."
"Truth conquers all."
So the phrase Vincit Omnia Veritas was on the frame as a caption.
"She would be very proud of you; Katie."
"I know she would, Dad."
With that Beckett took a long sip of her wine.
"She would adore those kids as much as Martha and I do."
"I know; Dad."
Castle then came over.
"Everything okay; Kate?"
"Yeah, everything is fine."
"Really?"
"I'll explain later, babe."
"I'm going to hold you to that…"
"Of course you would."
A few hours and countless glasses of wine later; Thanksgiving dinner was on the table. Everyone was anxious to dig in; especially the kids and Castle.
"I swear it's like I have six kids sometimes instead of just five." Beckett commented as everyone watched Castle carve the turkey before them.
Castle was a bit excited before the carving implements were handed to him and that was what prompted Beckett to comment.
"Now you know what we had to deal with before he decided to follow you for research; darling."
Everyone laughed at Castle's expense after Martha's quip. Thankfully Castle took the quip quite well. Shortly after the turkey was carved it was time to eat which made everyone happy.
