Chapter Four Nothing Is Normal with Jade

"Pichu, would you look at that view," Jade said in awe as she looked out over the academy's roof.

"Pi-Pi chuuu!" Pichu called back happily.

"Yeah, I know. This'll be a great year." Jade smiled, tugging a bit at the collar of her red, white, and silver uniform.

"J, come one, we'll miss the welcome speech!" Chazz said with a glare that left no room for argument. Jade pouted but followed Chazz anyway. The speech, thankfully, wasn't long or boring, but the principal called the two of them and a few others to his office.

"Thank you for coming," Principal Sheppard said with a smile. "Now, I'm sure some of you have heard the rumors?"

"You mean about the fourth grouping of students?" a very tall boy with puffy, dark brown hair said.

"Yes. Students here are grouped into Moltres Red, Zapdos Yellow, or Articuno Blue dorms. But due to a recent development, a fourth dorm is being made, simply called the Ho-Oh dorm. It will be a special dorm for both those with special needs and various… reasons. Such as Mr. Princeton, who wishes to excel in business. The dorm will be small for now. Hopefully, it will grow over time. We have yet to find a dorm head so I was hoping that one of you would, or know someone else who would, like to be a dorm student adviser?"

The next minute was characterized by a murmuring amongst the students who'd been called forward, interrupted by, "Excuse me, can I ask something about the uniforms first?"

Jade turned to look at the speaker and saw what appeared to be a five-year-old with spiky hair in a uniform similar to her own. "Systemic Hypoplasia?"

The small girl blinked before turning to look at Jade. "Yeah, how did you know? Most just assume I'm a kid or that I'm a little person."

"I spent a large amount of my life growing up in a hospital because I had a brain tumor. It took some chemo and then the cutting open of my skull to remove it."

"Oh." The girl shrugged. "Well, my problem with the girls' uniform is that the skirt is too short, so I plan to wear the boys' uniform."

"Same," Jade said.

"Well, there's no rule against that," Principal Sheppard said, amused. It was true girls didn't have to wear the dress uniform, but most preferred it. "Any more matters to discuss?"

"Erm…" Jade raised her hand. "I read through both the rule book and the school guide and—"

"Whoa, whoa, you actually read both of those?" the tall kid interrupted in disbelief.

"J, that's not like you. That stuff normally puts you to sleep. Do you have a fever?" Chazz asked, placing a hand on her forehead.

"I only had the attention span to skim most of it," a boy in the back piped up, gaining murmurs of agreement from the rest of the room.

Jade swatted Chazz's hand away in a huff. "I was making sure that no one could accuse me of making a bomb when I brought my tech-making material! I'm working on a new type of Pokeball right now."

"Oh, now that makes more sense. At least now I don't have to worry about you taking parts from other places in the school," Chazz said.

"What, worried about me getting in trouble?"

He snorted. "No, worrying about the trouble you're bound to drag me into."

"Meanie," Jade huffed. "So as I was saying, can the school use the change caused by the new dorm to improve the school a bit?"

"Improve how?" Chazz asked with a raised eyebrow.

"Well, since the dorm will mostly be for those of us 'special cases', it should have a bigger infirmary with more medical supplies. It should also have a place for students to go in case of emergency. Like a bad storm or something. Of course, where the dorm would need to be built is going to be the question." Jade paused and looked at Chazz questioningly.

He sighed. "Maybe the East side of the island or just a bit north of the hot springs? Or maybe north-west near the cliffs. Both the mountains and cliffs are high up in case of floods, and I guess if it's built right, the dorm will be able to withstand high winds." Chazz pinched the bridge of his nose. We haven't even had our first class yet and she's found a way to give me a headache. "What made you think of a storm shelter?"

"There was a man my aunt found on the beach a few years ago after a storm. I've seen what can happen to someone thanks to a natural disaster."

"Actually, that's a good idea," the really tall boy said. "I know that the main school building is made to be a safe place during emergencies, but it's better to be safe than sorry. Also, with a bigger infirmary there's a good opportunity for others. If Mr. Kaiba hires another doctor or nurse, more people could go into the medical field and get some hands-on experience. We're pretty far from the nearest hospital, so the more medical help, the better. And with more knowledgeable staff, there could maybe be some extra classes, like first-aid for humans as well as Pokemon and how to make natural medicine and health classes."

"As long as they don't give 'the talk' I wouldn't mind a health class," Jade said before a few comments of agreement filtered in.

"Excellent ideas. I'll bring them up to Mr. Kaiba. Now, does anyone want to be the student dorm adviser?" Sheppard asked with amusement. There was silence for a moment before the tall kid and Chazz pointed at Jade saying, "She's it."

Jade's eyebrow twitched. She may not be as quick as others, but even she knew high-position jobs equaled lots of paperwork or work in general and less time to goof off. "Why me?!"

"Based on your suggestions earlier, you seemed like a good fit," the tall boy explained.

"It'll be good for you," Chazz said with a smirk.

*Bam, Bam*

The tall boy and Chazz now sported bumps on their heads. One from Jade and a bigger one from the small girl.

"Jeez, Jade," Chazz grunted in pain. "Hot-tempered, much?"

"Ow, Rizu," the tall kid whined to the small girl. "Why'd you do that?"

"You know why! That reason was just Camerupt crap, Torza. You're not getting away with this in my book!"

"Or mine! That goes for you too, CP!"

"Pichu!"

"Alright, Rizu, Jade, welcome to your temporary stay at Red Dorm," Professor Banner said, leading the two girls to their room. They were the only Ho-Oh girls staying at Red Dorm, so they got their own rooms for now. The Three Ho-Oh boys were rooming together. The two girls were going to have to share a private bathroom, though, not that they minded.

"Here are your rooms. Rizu, your dorm is the second closest to the end. Jade, yours is the one at the very end."

"Purru," Pharaoh the Purugly yawned lazily. How Banner was able to carry the 96.6 pound Tiger Cat Pokemon was a mystery to the girls.

"Thank you for showing us the way," Rizu and Jade said. Rizu was the first to go into her room. Jade stayed an extra few minutes to scratch Pharoah's head. When Jade did walk into her room, she yelped as a big furry, familiar body pounced on her.

"What's going on?!" Rizu yelled as she ran into the room with Banner close behind. Both, however, stopped and stared when they saw an Arcanine sitting on Jade.

"Guardian! Get off of me! How the Mew did you even get here?!" Jade yelled in exasperation.

Guardian huffed before getting off of Jade and pointing out the window with his nose out the window. The humans followed his line of sight and spotted a Dragonite with a bag, grinning goofily at them before flying off.

"Twister. Should have known…"

Ms. Yuki, is this your Pokemon?" Banner asked.

"Kinda yes, kinda no. It's my dad's; he game him to Mom to watch over me. I just wish he would stop following me almost everywhere I go."

"Ah, alright then," Banner said before giving another goodbye and walking out the door.

"Hey, Jade, want to camp out in my room tonight?" Rizu asked.

Jade shrugged. "Sure, just let me check to make sure all my stuff is here.

Rizu smiled and left Jade to look around the room. Old bed, desk, chair, closet, small kitchenette area, a door to a bathroom, and lots of boxes… Jade shrugged. She knew the box under the bed was filled with her clothes, because that was one of the places she'd asked it to be put. The box under the desk held her tool box and medications. Three boxes she could see in the closet were filled with the first-aid kits from Dee, a box of snacks for trainers and Pokemon, and in the biggest box was the stuff she and her godfather had taken from the salvage yard. But there was an extra box with plain white wrapping. Making her way over, she discovered that it had a smaller, thinner box on top of it.

She pulled out these boxes and unwrapped them. She looked in the big box and saw three of every color Apricorn, a PC, parts for the inside of Pokeballs of different kinds, and a pair of work gloves. In the small box was a TM called Secret Power and a note.

Dear Jade Yuki,

Hello. This is your uncle. God, that sounds weird. Anyway, congratulations on getting to the academy. These are some gifts from my brother, AKA, your dad, and we hope you like them. The PC is something that goes with the TM. Using Secret Power on certain places will allow you to make a secret base. Some decorations are stored for you; you can pick one or two things to put in your room, but save the rest for your base. We'll send more stuff next year along with another letter. Hopefully, by the time you are ready to leave the academy we'll have already met you. Though Brother is stubborn about you making it on your own for the most part. Remember we care, though.

Love,

Uncle and your dad.

Jade's lips twitched into a smile.

"Alright, everyone, listen up. This is a Pokémon obstacle course/scavenger hunt. You will be split into groups of three," one of the professors said.

Jade yawned and stretched her arms. It was the first big test of the school year. Riddles weren't really her thing, but the obstacle course caught her interest. She hadn't caught any new Pokémon in the month and a half that she'd been here. Instead, she'd chosen to train her current team.

"Team 12: Jay Yuki, Bastion Migawa, and Syrus Truesdale."

"Sweet." Jade said as she pulled her 'little buddy' in a one armed hug. Although she wondered who this Bastion was.

"Well this is rather interesting." A voice said to Jades right. She turned her head to she a Zapdos yellow student near her. "Pleasure to meet you Jay Yuki, I am Bastion Migawa. This is my starter Chimchar."

"Chim!"

"Um I'm Syrus its nice to meet you. My starters sleeping in his poke ball right now though. Did the teacher give you the first riddles?"

"Yes she did, and I believe I solved where we're heading to for the first riddle." Bastion said and soon they were talking Banner in front of Red Dorm.

"So one of us has to send a Flying Type up to get one of the Hoppip down to you Pro. Banner." Syrus said as the three students looked at the grass type that liked to perch on the dorms roof.

"I must say that's a large gathering of Hoppip." Bastion said as he gazed at the 15 grass types they could see from this side of the roof.

"Well there is a lot of light and not many trees to bump into. Plus the wind here is normally blowing towards the volcano..." Jade turned to Banner. " Can Hoppip swim?"

"Yes actually, but not that well. That's why their kind never fully forget the move Splash. We still have older student volunteer's go around in boats or on the backs of their Pokémon every two days though."

"That's good news," a new female voice said. Jade turned to see a girl with long blonde hair along with Chazz and Rizu. The two people that Jade knew nodding in greeting to her. The blonde girl gave a small wave. "Hello I'm Alexis Rhodes."

"Nice to meet you, that's Bastion and Syrus and judging by the 'Lets stop the pointless talk and get the work done J' glare Chazz is giving me he may have told you my name."

"Yeah he did." Alexis said before calling out a Wingull. "Wingull please bring down a Hoppip to that man over there."

"Gull." The flying type flew up and grabbed one of the Hoppip, how struggled playfully, and dropped it into Banners waiting hands.

"Hm, good size and no injuries from the process of getting him down. Good work Alexis your group gets an A rank for this task." Banner said before letting the grass type go back to his group.

"Alright go Rufflet!" Jade called out her flying type since it seemed the boys in her group didn't have a flying types with them at the moment. "Rufflet I need you to go ask one of the grass types to let you bring him or her down to Banner for a few minutes." The Eaglet Pokémon Pokémon nodded and flew up to the roof. Jades group turned to watch as Banner finished marking Alexis's group's paper. As soon as the clipboard was out of his hands Rufflet droped a pink fuzzy Pokémon into his arms causing the humans to stop and blink in confusion.

"Syrus correct me if I'm wrong but isn't that a shiny Jumpluff." Jade said in confusion.

"It is." Syrus said.

"What on earth is a shiny Jumpluff don't here?!" Bastion asked with the what-the-hell tone of voice.

Chazz just face palmed and thought.' Nothing can be normal with Jade around.'

"Professor Banner that's my Jumpluff! She accidently flew out of my office!" An out of breath voice said as the people turned to see the school nurse Fonda Fontaine run twords them.
