"Muriel, we're scared", the twins cried. "Where are Mama and Papa?"
"They'll meet us at the boats", she answered. "Everything's going to be okay."
Muriel and Tommy carried the children in their arms as they followed Jack and Rose, trying to find an open gate that would lead to the upper decks. Jack led everyone up a flight of stairs to another gate was locked. Only one steward was guarding the gate
"Go to the main stairwell with everyone else", he calmly explained. "It'll all get sorted out there."
"Open the gate right now", Jack said.
"Go to the main stairwell, with everyone else", the steward repeated.
"I said open the gate. Please, we've got women and children with us."
"Go to the main stairwell like I told you!"
Jack sighed as he grabbed the gate, shaking it in frustration.
"Goddamn it!" he screamed. "Son of a bitch!"
Muriel looked at Tommy scared.
"What are we going to do now?" she asked.
Everyone looked around to see a crowd of people had gathered, hopeful that they would be able to get out. Jack looked through the hallway and saw a bench. He grabbed it and tried to pull it from the floor to use as a battering ram. Tommy put Edith down and went to help. Fabrizio and other men in the hallway grabbed the bench and pulled it free, holding it in front of them to break the gate open.
"Go!" Jack yelled.
The men rushed toward the gate, hitting it with the bench. Everyone watched and noticed it made the gate move.
"Again!"
The men rammed the gate with the bench, making it fall to the floor. The third class passengers quickly climbed over the bench, rushing up the stairs.
"Hey, you can't go through here!" the steward said.
Tommy glared as he punched him across the face. He was not taking anything from any more stewards. They were not going to be trapped like rats on the ship anymore.
"That was amazing!" Margaret said as the group continued to run for their lives.
"Will Mama and Papa be able to find us?" Edith asked.
Muriel looked at Tommy unsure of what to say. Things were starting to get crazy and she was beginning to doubt that they would ever see their parents again.
"Let's just try to get out of here first", Tommy said. "We'll find your parents once we're safe."
The third class passengers looked around once they reached the top deck. They were completely shocked when they saw the decks looking completely cluttered with people.
"The boats are gone!" Rose gasped.
Everyone looked around trying to find anymore boats. They couldn't all be gone. There was no way that they were all going to die on the ship. Rose quickly walked up to a first class passenger.
"Colonel, are there any boats left?" she asked.
"Yes, all the way forward", he answered.
Everyone ran toward the direction the colonel pointed. They could hear music playing as they ran and was very surprised to see the first class band, standing on the deck, playing their instruments.
"Music to drown by", Tommy chuckled. "Now I know I'm in first class."
Muriel looked at him, not finding any humor in their current situation. All she wanted to do was get to a lifeboat and get off the ship safely with her friends and family. Everyone stopped when they reached the end of the ship. The boats were gone.
"What now?" Muriel asked.
"Go look on the other side", Jack said.
Tommy, Fabrizio, Muriel and the children ran to the other side of the ship. They were very surprised to see the ship's officer, Murdoch pointing a pistol at everyone who was surrounding the boat.
"Stay back!" he said. "I'll shoot anyone that tries to get past me!"
"Give us a chance to live, you bastards!" Tommy yelled.
"Please!" Muriel said. "Please let us on!"
Murdoch looked at her and looked at the children with her. He sighed as he waved his pistol nodding.
"Yes, you come aboard", he said.
She looked at Tommy and walked toward the boat. He followed her carrying Edith in his arms.
"Back, I said!" Murdoch yelled.
"Bastard!" Tommy yelled.
One man from the crowd, grabbed onto the rope, trying to climb into the boat. Murdoch turned and fired his pistol, killing him. Another person in the crowd pushed Tommy forward. Murdoch turned the gun ready to fire.
"Tommy, look out!" Muriel screamed.
Another gunshot rang into the air, making everyone scream.
