A/N: I know it has been a long time since the last update; thank you all for bearing with me as we waited for the seventh season of our beloved show to start up again. Enjoy.

Distant

That one thing that Beckett had never looked forward to dealing with after solving her mother's murder had come around again. There would be some distance between her and Castle for a day or so. Everyone knew why. Some even said she was a bit justified.

"And what about the wedding? Did he have any misgivings?"

"Misgivings? Katherine, that was the farthest thing from his mind. He couldn't wait to be married to you."

This time was hard for Alexis and Martha too. But then again they weren't the ones who had been abandoned on their wedding day like Beckett had been. Breakfast that morning was quiet. Martha came over. As Martha talked to her grandkids she noticed the distance between her daughter in law and son.

"Katherine darling; I know this day is hard for you, but a lot of time has passed and he choose to forget what happened. He did that for you, my dear."

"Yes I know; Martha, it doesn't change what happened though. It doesn't give us back the two months that he was gone."

The kids finished up their breakfast and left to watch their nieces for their sister and brother in law as they had promised.

After the kids left; Beckett left the loft to start the car while Castle held back for a beat.

"Everything will be fine; mother. In a few days we'll be back to normal." Castle said as he said goodbye to his mother.

Martha gave Castle a hopeful look.

"You better be right kiddo."

With that Castle left.

"And so it begins." Martha said to herself in the quietness of the loft.

The day went on as usual. JM and her younger siblings spent the day with their nieces so that Alexis could deal with this day in the way that she had chosen to. Jake was at her side the entire time. Beckett delved in to paperwork and other things at work while Castle clowned around with Ryan and Esposito.

At one point during his antics Castle looked over to his wife. One of the guys caught his gaze wander over to her.

"She'll be alright; bro. Beckett will come out of this just as resilient as she did when we got Bracken."

"I know she will. I just hate seeing her like this."

"Well the day that you were kidnapped was a hard day for her. You know she needs time."

"Mhmm."

Castle and the boys returned to their antics for a bit longer before Castle darted over to the break room to get some coffee for him and Beckett.
