As I fell to the ground my claws cleaved straight through Amon's neck I couldn't help but feel a bit let down by the fact I didn't make him suffer a bit more for all he had done. And as darkness enveloped my vision and my strength left me I imagined if only for a brief moment what would have happened if Amon had never came. No doubt I would have stayed in the village started a family and died there of old age instead of on the floor with a massive wound in my chest. But as my eyes closed shut and the last of my life faded away it wasn't my lost friends of family that I was greeted by. but a old scared wolf with glowing crimson eyes.
"So you finally gutted the fool did you? Only took you a few years." I could tell that in the time I had been away he'd hadn't changed a bit but that didn't explain why he was here.
"Wait I'm dead so how are you even here? And speaking of which where am I?" In fact looking around I couldn't tell where I was. Most of the area was covered in darkness but bits and pieces looked like of the room I was just in but with vines and trees littered here and there. He just laughed as if this entire thing was one big joke before looking up at the only source of light a small glowing ball in the sky.
"Dead? No you're somewhere in between life and death, a spirit nexus for your past and your future. I'm just here to offer you a choice. Live your life as a human or do the smart thing and rejoin the pack and live your days hunting as a spirit wolf."
There was a part of me however small that did want to return to the life I had and just live as a normal human and not as a wolf but I've been like this for so long that I couldn't imagine my life without my inner wolf.
"I'll take option three where I say no to both options and keep living as a werewolf and do as I please with it."
"There's that fire I saw all those years ago! I knew I turned you for a reason. I just had to see if you deserved to keep what you were and not give up. Well go on and head back to the land of the living but if you need me you know where to find me... now wake up!" He howled with such great force that it actually forced me from the world I was in and back into the real world which to my surprise resembled a hospital room. My entire body was submerged in a pool of glowing water with my one and only friend now elbow deep into the water.
"You're alive! when they brought me here and said you were hurt I thought they were just being dramatic but you had a gaping hole in your chest not to mention broken blood vessels and burns. It's nothing sort of a miracle you didn't die before I could heal you and even then it took six others who gave up when they thought you might not make it." Rena says which honestly makes me wonder what happened after I nearly died. When I try to sit up in the tub I was it she forced me back and froze my arms and limb making sure I couldn't move.
"Oh no you don't! If you move now you'll reopen your wounds and I'm not about to have you die one me. Now stay here while I go tell the others your awake they've been outside this entire time."
She stood up from where she was and after washing her hands went to the door where moments later Korra, Asami and the chief who for the first time actually seemed to look worried.
"You must have a strong will to live kid. Any normal person would have died but for some reason your're heart refused to stop beating."
"Yeah my old mentor said something like that...but what happened after I blacked out?"
All three looked at each other before Korra spoke.
"After you killed Amon we carried you and Asami's dad through a tunnel which wasn't easy. Lin had to metal bend a table that I pulled as a wolf while Asami applied pressure to your wounds to stop the bleeding."
"Okay but where does Rena come in?"
"Tunnel that we came out of was just a few blocks from her clinic. We sent word that we needed her and got you here, you should have been awake to see the healers when the saw two werewolves they nearly passed out but the chief all but destroyed the walls when they refused to heal you." At this I turned my head at the chief who suddenly found the opposite wall very fascinating.
"They honestly didn't know how to heal you but when Rena showed up she took charge and told them exactly where and how to heal you. Although they nearly went into shock when you changed back halfway through."
"Well that does explain a few things. But that does leave me with one question that's been on my mind ever since I saw Amon in that room."
"What's that?"
"What now? My only goal for years was to get revenge but now... I honestly have no idea what to do, my home was destroyed years ago and my only other home is a dark forest in the spirit world."
It was Rena who spoke first startling everyone.
"You could stay at the clinic in your room. It's not much but you'd have a bed and not to mention a job keeping the gangs in check."
"Wait a minute, I've seen what he does to the gangs and I'm tired of dealing with the paperwork that comes with dealing with a body. So here's what we'll do for the time being he'll stay at the Hq in one of the solitary cell where I can keep on eye on him and when he's able we'll let him move into the clinic under house arrest."
"House arrest? For what reason?" Rena looks to me and then to the chief for answers.
"I may have started a bit of a fire after she brought me in... which let to riots and a spike in crime while they tried to stop it."
"And I plan to make sure you help me personally put every criminal back into their cells!" she tells me before leaving us alone. As soon as the door to the room slams shut Rena turns to me a mischievous smile on her face.
"That fire was you?"
"I was desperate and needed a way out so I made a distraction and walked out during the chaos. What happened afterwards was just bad luck."
"I'd love to stay but I can only be away from the clinic for so long before my helpers become overworked. Now remember don't try to move for a few hours and your body should heal in a few weeks although knowing you a few days at most." She give me a quick hug before packing her things leaving me whith Asami and Korra.
"So not to ask a stupid question but how are you feeling?" Korra asks before Asmai elbows her.
"Honestly relieved at achieving revenge but apart from that I feel lighter like all my hatred is gone. I mean I still can't stand people but I no longer want to rip them apart, throw them into a wall maybe but not kill them."
And dispite what's happened I think I'll do just fine in this world. Because now I could control what I am and I'm really looking forward to showing this city exactly what a werewolf can do.
This story was fun to write, but all good things must come to an end. But more stories to come in the near future.
