Hey everyone! I'm really sorry that it's taken me so long to update, but I've been going through a lot lately and I really haven't felt like writing. Anyway, I worked really hard on this chapter, and I have some exciting news. This chapter has a lot of detail in it about Tris's makeover and clothes, as well as an outfit of Tobias's. To enhance the imagery that I give, I posted a link on my profile where you can go to see the photos that inspired the descriptions. The link directs you to a forum where you can view all of the photos. Feel free to leave me reviews here, but also feel free to post comments on the board about the photos and the chapter. I'm gonna try to update again really soon, but remember: the more feedback I get, the more I write and the sooner you guys get more chapters!

I do want to quickly address a question that a reviewer asked: yes, the names of the chapters did change. I deleted all of my previous notes so that the chapter names would more closely align with the numbers assigned to them by the site.

Anyway, enjoy the chapter everyone!

Tris

I lie in bed looking at the ceiling. I haven't spent this much time in bed since I was in the hospital. I go to work in the cafeteria, and when I'm done, I come back here and lie wide awake all night. The room is empty all around me. When Christina told me that she had arranged for me to stay in my own apartment, I thought it was a great idea. She said that there were some really nice places that haven't been used since before the war, and there was one in particular that she knew no one would ever think to look for me, that no one being Tobias.

I haven't seen him since that night. He found me by the chasm; I was sprawled out on the floor sobbing when I heard him say my name. It came out as a forced whisper, like it took everything in him to speak. The moment I heard his voice, I got up and ran as quickly as I could. I didn't know where I was going, I just knew that I had to get away from him. He didn't try to follow me. I'm not sure if that made me happier, or if that made me feel even worse.

I remember the pang of jealousy that tore through my soul when I found out that he had been spending time with Nita when we were at the Bureau. I remember how it felt when he told me I was just jealous. The feeling that I've had for the past two weeks trumps everything.

Christina says that he's been harassing her nonstop. When she gets home from work, he's sitting at her door, waiting. He knows that she knows where I am, and he says that he's going to sit there everyday until she either tells him where I am, or I show up at her place. He's shown up at the cafeteria a couple times when I'm working, but thankfully Tanner has refused to let him talk to me. Tobias must be feeling really guilty, because he doesn't even try to protest. I don't know why he won't just go be with Nita. That's obviously what he wants, so he should just go do it. He has nothing else to lose now.

"Tris," I hear Christina say as she knocks on the door.

"Come in," I respond as I sit up and tuck the blankets around me.

"I brought you some breakfast," she smiles a strained smile.

"Thanks," I say as she sets the tray down on the bed. "Since I have the day off, I didn't want to eat with everyone and risk seeing, well, anyone."

"Yeah," she sighs.

"Have you seen her?" I ask hesitantly.

"Honestly?"

"I didn't think you were capable of speaking anything but the truth," I joke.

"I saw her the morning after, but I haven't seen her since."

"Was he down there this morning?" I ask.

"Not when I was there, but Tanner said that he was there for a few hours," she grimaces. "I know what you said happened, Tris, but are you sure..."

"I know what I saw, Christina," I scowl. "She was in OUR bed."

"I know, Tris. But Tanner said.."

"Tanner said what?" I interrupt.

"He said that Four looks awful and he was crying when he was down there today," she frowns.

"Good," I say callously. "He should be crying. All I get to do is cry. He should feel bad."

"Tris, you know that once someone does something to hurt someone that I care about...I hate them. But, maybe you should talk to him. Tris, I can count on one hand the number of times that I have seen Four show any sign of being a human being, and every single one of them involved you."

"What's your point?"

"My point is he loves you. Yeah, a lot has happened and he's made some mistakes, but he loves you, Tris. And I love you. And I'm worried about you."

"You don't need to worry about me, Christina. I'm fine. I can take care of myself."

"Well, if that's true, if you're really fine, then you can prove it by coming to Zeke's Candor or Dauntless party with me tonight. "

She doesn't give me time to protest, she just gets up and walks out. They had to have planned this. He is definitely going to be at Zeke's party. I'm not ready to see him. But if I don't go, then everyone is going to think that I'm a pansycake, as Uriah would say. But I can't go with Christina and Uriah, because then I'll look like a loser. Especially if Tobias brings Nita. I check the time and see that everyone in the cafeteria is preparing lunch, so no one should be down there. I get dressed quickly and throw my hair into a loose ponytail. I make my way to the cafeteria through some back hallways to avoid running into anyone on the main path.

"Hey, Tris," Tanner says when I walk into the kitchen.

"Hey," I smile a little.

"I'm surprised to see you here on your day off," he smiles a lopsided grin.

His green eyes sparkle in the light and his dark hair shines. His stance is a little broader than usual, and his body looks like he's put on some more muscle.

"I like it here," I smile a real smile this time. "And I actually wanted to ask you something."

"And what would that be?" He asks, folding his arms and leaning against the table behind him.

His features aren't harsh like some of the other members of Dauntless, but he still gives off this extremely masculine vibe.

"Do you want to go to a Candor or Dauntless party with me tonight? Ya know, as a friend."

"I would love to go to a Candor or Dauntless party with you tonight. Ya know, as a friend," he grins again.

There's something about his eyes that threatens to suck me in. Before I'm forced to come up with something to say back, one of the women that works in the kitchen calls his name.

"I'll come by your place at around 7:30. Does that sound good?" He asks.

"Yeah, that sounds great," I smile.

As I walk back to my apartment, an eery feeling envelopes me. Part of me is really excited to go to the party with Tanner, but the other part of me makes it feel wrong to go with him. I reach the door to my apartment, but I keep walking. I keep walking until I'm out of the compound. I catch a train and ride it all the way to the outskirts of amity where that little shopping plaza sits. Instead of browsing through all of the stores, I head straight to the one that sells unique Dauntless clothes. After browsing for a while, I settle on a black dress. It's longsleeved so it will cover my still-healing bruises and wounds, but it's far from being prudish. The hemline falls at my upper thigh and there are cutouts in the sides, making a T-shape from the bust to the hips. It has a wide neckline that compliments my shape perfectly. I move from the fitting room to the lingerie section and pick out a matching lace bra and panty set.

After I leave the shop, I go back to the Dauntless compound. I don't go back to my apartment. Instead I go to the cosmetic store. After picking out some different kinds of make up, I go straight to the salon. If I'm going to go to this party and act like Tobias didn't break me, then I have to look unbroken. I have to look like it doesn't bother me at all to see him or to go to a party without him. So I tell the stylist to do something that I never thought I would do - dye my hair. She applies a rich brown color to my roots and then fades it out so that the rest of my hair is still blonde, and she cuts it so that it has different lengths - layers, she calls it.

I finally go back to my apartment and start to create the look that I want for tonight. I do my makeup like Christina has done for me before using a light foundation and an almost nude blush. Then, I create a basic "smokey eye" as Christina calls it, but I add a little bit of shadow that has a green tint in it along with some dark black liquid eyeliner drawn out with wings and some mascara. Considering that I did all of this myself, I think I did a really good job. I apply a light-pink colored lip gloss and then I slip into my dress. Thanks to an advanced healing salve that the hospital gave me to use, all of the wounds on my abdomen are almost invisible. Some of the bruises and scars remain on my arms, though, which is why I picked this dress. I slide on some black heels that Christina made me buy, which have to be more than four inches high. The thick straps cross over my foot and then tie in the back in a large black bow.

I stare at myself in the mirror for a long time. Just as I'm about to rethink everything, there's a knock on my door. I open the door and find Tanner standing there wearing typical Dauntless attire: black jeans and a black teeshirt with a leather jacket.

"You look great. Wow," he smiles.

"Thanks, so do you," I smile back.

We make our way to Zeke's apartment and when we get there, I push the door open and make my way inside. I glance around the room quickly, looking forward any signs of Tobias, but the only one that I find is Christina.

"Tris you look hot!" She yells while checking me out.

"Thanks," I laugh as she circles around me.

"Trissy!" Zeke exclaims walking up to me. "So glad you could make it."

"Hey Zeke. This is Tanner, I work with him in the cafeteria."

"Oh yeah, I've seen you around. Good to meet you," Zeke says slapping Tanner on the shoulder.

"You too," Tanner replies.

"Well Trissy, since you're here now we can all start playing!" Zeke says as he goes to kick all of the random people out of his apartment.

He comes back a few minutes later and we all gather around in the living room. I sit down next to Christina and Uriah, and Tanner sits next to me. I look around and see Matthew, Cara, Caleb, Shauna and Peter. No sign of Tobias, yet. Just as I turn my head to tell Christina that he isn't here, a strange feeling comes over me and I look over to the kitchen, where Tobias is emerging from, wearing black leather pants and a black button down shirt with the sleeves rolled up to his elbows. Our eyes meet momentarily before his automatically shift to Tanner. For a split second, I think I see his expression change, but he has his Four mask firmly in place. He sits down on the opposite side of the room beside Zeke, and directly across from me.

"Alright, my party, my apartment, me go first," Zeke says as he scans the room for a victim. "Trissy," he grins devilishly.

"Zeke, I swear," I start to scold him for using that nickname again, but he cuts me off.

"You are looking mighty fine tonight, my lady, but it is now your time to choose: Candor or Dauntless," he grins again.

"Dauntless," I reply.

"Yeah, Tris ain't no pansycake!" Uriah cheers.

"We'll see," Zeke challenges. "I Dauntless dare you to kiss Four."

My stomach churns as the words come out of his mouth. I figured that everyone would go easy on me with what I've been going through, so I didn't wear layers, but obviously Zeke planned this. I cannot kiss Tobias. If I do, I will completely lose it. I stand up with my head held high and look around the room for a moment. Everyone waits in anticipation for my next move and Tobias's eyes are locked on me. I meet his gaze and look I'm dead in the eye before I reach behind my back and unzip my dress. I step out of it l, revealing my black lingerie to everyone and they all scream and catcall. Tobias's eyes widen as he looks me up and down and then his face falls. I can't tell if it's embarrasment, pure anguish or both that I see on his face, but I see the beginning of tears form in his eyes. I sit back down without looking at him and watch as the others do their dares. By the time it comes back to me, Matthew has eaten popcorn off of Uriah's bare foot, Christina ran around the room clucking like a chicken while Caleb filmed it, Tobias shot an apple off of Cara's head, and Shauna had to profess her undying love of Dauntless cake to Tanner, the "cake man" as Uriah calls him.

"Tris," Christina calls my name.

"Dauntless," I say with confidence, knowing that Christina won't do anything to humiliate me.

"Kiss the most attractive man in the room," she dares.

Let's just say I was wrong to think she wouldn't humiliate me. I look around the room and glance down at myself. I'm already in my underwear, so opposing the dare isn't an option. I know that Chris did this just so that I would kiss Tanner in front of Tobias, but I don't think she realizes the position she has put me in.

Before I can over think it, I turn and kiss Tanner square on the lips. He kisses me back and starts to deepen it when I hear a glass shatter. I jerk away and see Tobias slam the door as he walks out, the glass that he had been holding shattered all over the ground after hitting the wall.
