Chapter 11
As the boys began to be questioned by a few other guards of the Oasis, Jin couldn't keep the thought of what had happened out of his mind. How could he possibly be able to water bend?! All his life he treated everyday as if it were the usual. He never would have imagined something this serious would happen to him. Yet alone someone as simple as him. He turned his head to Kuma who kept the same surprised look he had a few minutes ago. After their questioning was finished and the fire nation spy was apprehended, Kuma's father began to make his way into the Oasis.
"What on earth are you doing here again Kuma?! Didn't I warn you to stay away from the Oasis! It is a sacred place and you boys shouldn't be playing around here!" Yakuah said sternly to both males.
Kuma looked at Jin as if wondering what they should do. Soon Yakuah began to speak again.
"Alright then... All that matters is that you both are safe and that spy is taken away..." He sighed and began to look around. "How... Did you two exactly stop him?"
Kuma gulped slightly while looking at Jin. "Can we continue this talk at our home dad? I uh... Don't feel very safe anymore."
Yakuah raised an eyebrow then sighed. "Fine. But no playing around the Oasis!"
The boys nodded and began to walk behind the chief. As they did, Jin looked back at the pond once more and sighed. So many questions were filling his head. Once they reached Kuma's home, the three sat down in order to discuss. Kuma's mother seemed quite worried that they were all gone. It was a bit surprising she even knew they were gone. She began to heal Kuma's wounds as the three spoke.
"Alright then. What did you two want to talk about?" Yakuah said.
The boys looked at each other and took a deep breath.
"Well dad. When we saw the fire nation spy coming into the Oasis, me and Jin began to think of a plan. He would distract him while I surprise him using the water from the Oasis. Jin wasn't able to earth bend there anyway so it seemed like a good plan at the time. But after Jin began to distract him, I found out that I couldn't bend the water in the Oasis so I was attacked instead. Then..."
Jin gulped as Kuma turned his gaze to him. "Then... I... Well... Sort of began to bend water. Then I knocked the guy unconscious."
Kuma nodded. "He's telling the truth dad. I saw it with my own eyes!"
Yakuah's eyes began to widen. Utah gasped and dropped the water that she was using to heal herself onto the floor.
"You boy's are fooling around aren't you? That's it both of you to bed right n-" Chief Yakuah gasped as he stopped in the middle of his sentence. Utah seemed quite surprised at what she was seeing as well. Jin had began to bend the water she had dropped and form it into a small orb. It was obvious to see that he wasn't experienced due to the orb barely keeping it's shape. Jin pouted and looked up at Kuma's parents.
"I-Im sorry. You dropped this Ms. Utah." Jin said while looking at Kuma's mother.
His parents began to look at each other in a bit of shock. "This... This means that you are the new... Avatar!" Yakuah said while Utah gasped slightly.
"But dad, I thought the whole cycle of avatars stopped like... Forever ago!" Kuma said confused.
"This is true. But... Just because the cycle stopped, doesn't mean it had to be permanent..."
Utah looked at her husband and pouted. "Perhaps my father will have some answers? We can take them to him tomorrow morning."
Kuma smiled. "Were going to see grandpa!" He then turned to Jin with a smile. "Don't worry Jin. My grandpa's one of the smartest men in the tribe. He'll have the answer for sure."
Utah smiled. "For now, you two better worry about heading to bed. Go on both of you."
The boys groaned and began to head to their rooms. The next morning, Kuma's father began to lead the boys to a large building. It didn't look like a home but it was far too elegant to be a public place. Kuma's father opened the door and let the boys in. In the room was a man sitting at a desk and surrounded by books.
"What are YOU doing here?" The man said while looking at Yakuah.
He sighed. "Hello to you too dad..."
Kuma quickly ran to the man. "Grandpa!"
The man's attitude quickly changed. "Ahh there's my big boy! My have you grown. And look at the maine you call hair. It's growing so wildly."
Kuma laughed then looked at JIn. "Jin, this is my grandpa, Soka. He's the smartest man in our tribe and also a great water bending teacher. "
Soka smiled while looking at the earth kingdom boy. "My my. So I see you've made some friends at this school of yours. So what brings you all here?"
Yakuah began to step forward. "You see, Kuma's new friend is a earth bender. But from what the boys have told me, and displayed, is that Jin... Can also water bend. So we wanted to know if he... Was perhaps the next avatar."
Soka raised an eyebrow and looked at Jin. "Step forward boy."
Jin gulped and began to walk forward to the male. He stood still as the man moved closer looking into his eyes. Soka remained still and did not blink as he watch JIn for what felt like forever. Soon Soka began to back away and rub his beard.
"Yep. He's the avatar." Soka said confidently.
Yakuah jumped slight a bit confused. "What? But you didn't even do an-"
He paused as Soka hit him in the head with a book. "Silence boy! I know what I am doing. This boy is obviously the avatar. If you witnessed him showing he control move than one element, then there is no other logical explanation. "
Kuma and Jin looked at each other excitedly. "Woah! That means your going to save the world or something!"
Jin looked at him confused. "But is the world even in danger."
Soka smiled. "The world is always in danger boy."
Yakuah looked to Soka. "So what do you suppose we do about this then?"
Soka quickly struck him again. "The only logical thing you moron! We prepare him!"
Yakuah rubbed his aching head before being struck again. "What did I even do that time!?"
"Nothing!" Soka said while stroking his beard. "I just hate your face!"
Kuma smiled to Jin. "Aren't they the coolest?"
Jin laughed nervously while looking at Kuma.
Soka smiled. "I will train you boy. But this will have to be a secret. You cannot attract attention. You cannot tell anyone that you are the avatar. Do you understand?"
Jin nodded as he heard the man. "I understand sir."
Kuma smiled. "Grandpa, can I show Jin around your library?"
Soka smiled. "Go on boys. But don't hurt yourselves."
The boys ran off leaving Kumas father and grandpa alone. The two sat down and began to speak.
"So... What do you suppose we do now?"
Soka began to write on a paper and began to open a window letting in a white bird with large wings. He took the note and tied it to the bird. "Only one thing we can do. Consult the Grand Lotus for guidance. This had been predicted but... This soon? The boy is barely an earth bender and he's already learning a new skill?" Soka sighed. "Until then, he is our responsibility. Ill teach him all I can before they leave. I'll teach Kuma as well. After that, they are out of my control. " He stroked his beard and sighed. "If the cycle is beginning to continue... Then evil is beginning to show its face again..."
