P is for Protect
Jamie stood firm on his feet, his gun trained on the suspect in front of him.
"Put the gun down!" Jamie held his gun steady, perfectly trained. The suspect took a step further.
"Give me Danny Reagan, or else I shoot this little girl." Jamie stayed where he was.
"Let's talk about this." The suspect grew angrier.
"I'm here! Now let the girl go." Danny was suddenly standing next to Jamie with his hands in the air.
"Danny, what are you doing?" Jamie glanced at his older brother.
"Saving that little girl.' Danny focused back to the suspect. "Let the girl go." The suspect hesitated and then released the girl.
"You're going to pay for what you have done!" The suspect raised his gun and fired at Danny. He waited for the pain, but nothing came. There was a heavy weight on his chest and he realized he was on the ground. Danny looked up and saw that it was Jamie who was on top of him. Jamie had knocked him out of the way. Jamie rolled off of him and on to the ground next to him. Jamie seemed out of breath.
"Are you ok kid?" Danny sat up and looked at his baby brother.
"Yeah...just need a sec. It hit me vest." Danny glanced over to see the suspect being cuffed.
"Can you sit up so I can have a look at you?" Jamie sighed and with the help of Danny sat up. Danny looked at Jamie's back and pulled the bullet from his vest. "Here." Jamie chuckled and then winced.
"Why would I want this?"
"For a souvenir." Danny smiled at his little brother and helped him up. "You should probably get checked out."
"I'll be fine." Danny shot Jamie a look. "Fine but I'm not going to the hospital."
"Deal." Danny lead Jamie over to the ambulance and watched at the paramedic checked Jamie over. When Jamie was cleared, Danny invited him over for dinner.
Before they entered Danny's house, Danny stopped Jamie and looked him square in the eye.
"Never do that again."
"What?"
"You know what!" Danny sighed. "You could have been hurt, or worse."
"I was wearing a vest and you weren't. I'd do it again if it meant saving you."
"That's just it. I'm supposed to protect you, not the other way around."
"Well, sometimes the protector needs some protection." Jamie smiled at Danny and opened the door. Danny stood back as his kids tackled Jamie. They were very excited to have him over. Danny smiled and helped Jamie pull the boys off of him.
"Are you staying for dinner Uncle Jamie?"
"Only if it's alright with you buddy."
"It's always alright Uncle Jamie!" The boys grabbed Jamie's and bickered about who got to sit next to him Danny laughed and went to say hi to Linda.
When Danny entered the dinning room, Jamie was showing the boys the nasty bruise he now had on his back. The boys grimaced and Jamie chuckled.
"You're a hero Uncle Jamie!"
"No, I was just protecting someone I loved." Danny and Jamie locked eyes for a second. Danny nodded his head, a gesture that Jamie understood. I love you too, little bro.
