Jamie walked out of the station and towards his car. He was about to unlock it when two men came up behind him. Jamie recognized them as officers, but He did not know their names.
"Hey guys..." Jamie was confused.
"Reagan." The two men stood taller, and Jamie suddenly felt small. "Guys like you bug me. You think you can come in here and be an Officer, just because of your name."
"What? No. That's..." Jamie was given a fist to the gut.
"To be an officer you need to earn respect by your actions not your name." Guy number two shoved Jamie against his car. The two of them started beating Jamie. Slowly, Jamie slid down to the ground. He wrapped his arms around his head and waited for it to stop. With one final kick to the chest, the men left. Jamie lay there for a moment. Slowly he sat up and groaned. He pulled himself off the ground and climbed into his car. He tried to ignore his aching body. He drove to the nearest family member's house. He limped his way to the front door and knocked softly. He leaned heavily on the door frame. Inside he heard the scrap of a chair on the dining room floor. He listened as foot steps approached the door. The porch light came on and the door opened.
Nicki sat at the kitchen table do her homework, when she heard someone knock on the door.
"Mom someone's at the door!"
"Can you get it? I'm cooking." Nicki stood and walked to the door, when she pulled it open she gasped. Jamie was leaning against the door frame and he had dried blood and fresh blood on his face.
"MOM!" Nicki called. Erin came running from the kitchen. She froze when she saw Nicki helping support Jamie.
"What happened?" Erin went to Jamie's other side and helped Nicki ease him onto the couch.
"No-nothing."
"Jamie! What happened?"
"C-couple of officers b-beat me up b-because they t-thought I was o-only a c-cop b-because of m-my name." Jamie groaned and wrapped an arm around his abdomen.
"I'm going to call an ambulance."
"No, I'm good."
"No, you're not Jamie." Erin pulled her cell out of her pocket and dialed, she paced around the dining room as she talked. As Erin hung up Nicki called her.
"Mom, I can't get him to wake up!" Erin ran to her little brother and tried to wake him. She cursed under her breath and prayed the ambulance would be there soon.
When the paramedics arrived, they whisked Jamie out of the house and into the ambulance. Erin grabbed her keys and followed. As she drove, she instructed Nicki to call everyone.
Danny was stretched out on the couch with a beer in his hand. Linda was curled up next to him. His phone rang and he glanced at the screen before answering it.
"Hey Nicki."
"Uncle Danny. You need to get to the hospital now. Uncle Jamie was attacked." Nicki hung up and Danny jumped off the couch. He explained to Linda and ran out the door.
Frank and Henry where laughing about a joke, when Franks phone rang.
"Hello."
"Grandpa. Get to the hospital. Uncle Jamie was attacked." Again Nicki hung up. Frank and Henry jumped up and ran to the car.
Erin and Nicki entered the hospital, just in time to see Jamie being wheeled back into the emergency room. Danny ran in a few minutes later, followed by Frank and Henry.
"What happened?" Erin explained what Jamie had told her. Danny was furious.
A doctor approached them and explained that Jamie had a concussion and some bruising, but he was going to be fine. They were keeping him overnight but he could have visitors. Danny was the first one in the room. He gasped at Jamie's bruised face.
"God, kid." Anger bubbled inside Danny. "Who did this to you?"
"I don't know their names."
"But you could identify them by picture?" Jamie nodded and then grimaced as pain laced through his head. Danny pulled out his phone and pulled up all the pictures of Jamie's precinct. He passed it to Jamie. He scrolled through, until he found the two officers.
"Jason and Leo McLean. Figures that their brothers." Danny shoved the phone into his pocket and walked towards the door.
"Don't do anything stupid." Danny turned to his father and flashed a quick grin.
Danny stormed into the station and walked to the front desk.
"Detective Reagan? Can I help you?"
"I'm looking for Jason and Leo McLean."
"They're in the locker room." Danny nodded and stormed into the locker room. Danny pushed open the door and walked right to the brothers. He cleared his throat. The two men turned around. Danny glared at them.
"Detective." Jason swallowed nervously. Danny took a step closer. Jason and Leo stepped back, until they were pressed against the lockers.
"So, I heard you two beat up my brother."
"Where did you hear a thing like that? Leo's voice shook when he talked.
"A little birdie told me." Danny stepped closer. "If either one of you touch my brother again, there will be consequences." Danny turned to walk away but stopped when he heard Jason mutter something under his breath.
Danny turned around and socked both of them in the jaw. They both fell to the ground holding their face. Danny glared at them one last time and left.
BB-BB-BB
Danny slipped into Jamie's hospital room. He was trying to be quiet, because Jamie was sleeping. He sat down in a chair and it creaked as he sat. Danny winced at the noise.
"I'm awake, don't worry about the noise." Danny smiled at Jamie. "So what did you do."
"Just talked to 'em."
"Is that why your knuckles are bruised on your right hand?" Danny looked down, he hadn't noticed the black and blue. He chuckled.
"Ok, I talked to 'em, Danny style." Jamie laughed and then grimaced.
'"Don't make me laugh it hurts too much."
