Real Cop
"Ngh… You sure you wanna be helping me?"
It was hours after the arrest of former Mayor Bellwether. Judy had been taken to the ER to patch up her leg and Nick had stayed by her side the entire time despite the long wait.
It was evening now and they were just glad to be out of view of the camera's.
"Carrots you're limping." Nick retorted helping her inside and depositing her on the end of her bed. He gave her a small smirk. "Now… What can I get the Sly Bunny?"
"... If you could somehow make a run to that one pizza place down the street and get a deep dish with extra cheese I would be eternally grateful." Judy gave a pleading look. "I'll buy."
"If you promise to share that, heck yes."
"Of course!"
Nick headed out as Judy grabbed her phone. Her lock screen showed up, a photo of her and a small white bunny on her shoulders both grinning at the camera…Her little sister Sophie.
Judy smiled softly at the image, remembering Sophie's reaction to Judy returning home after she had resigned for a time.
"Jude the dude!"
"Sophinator!"
She was all smiles and giggles… Oh I gotta remember to ask mom and dad to take her up here for a weekend when things calm down again… She'd absolutely love it here…
She looked out the window squinting a bit seeing Nick walking into the crowded sidewalk. He wouldn't be back for awhile, the place was known to be packed at this time at night.
...I gotta hear their voices…
She quickly went through her contacts until she found her parents and quickly entered "call' leaning back on her bed waiting.
It didn't take long before a face popped up… The face of her sister.
The little bunny gave a sharp gasp her eyes going wide. "JUDY!" She squealed.
"Sophie!" Judy smiled. "Hey little lady, how's my favorite junior detective?"
"I'm good, Mommy's with one of the other kids… You want me to get her?"
"Yes but in a few minutes… I wanna see how you guys were first…" Judy sighed a bit. "It's been a crazy day over here… Has the news made it to your guy's' neck of the woods?"
Sophie gave a confused look shaking her head. "We had dinner at Grammy's tonight, you know Grandpop doesn't have a TV… That goofy old timer."
"Oh yeah… " Both sisters took a deep breath.
"The reason foxes are red is because they were made by the devil!" They quoted their grandfather before bursting into laughter.
"Oh Sophinator… I got so much to tell you guys… But lemme talk to mom and dad first… Than I'll tell you EVERYTHING…" She gave the younger bunny a sneaky look. "All the things they won't tell you once the case hits the news feed over there."
Sophie's eyes lit up in wonder. "Ooo…. Okay. Be right back." She set down the phone. "MOOOOMMMYY!"
Soon the face of Bonnie appeared on the screen. "There's my girl! Hey Stu! I was right!" She called over. "She would call when she was free again!"
"Mommy don't let Judy forget I wanna hear her stories." Sophie quietly added.
"Of course. Now I believe there's a slice of carrot cake Jack and Will are trying to sneak out."
"...HEY!" Sophie ran off. "You GUYS!"
Judy tried to stifle a laugh. "You guys have been busy huh?"
"A bit… How'd things go when you got back to town?"
Judy took a deep breath. "... Things are great…"
"... Your tired sounding and your ears are droopy."
"... Okay you got me." Judy ran a paw over her face. "Turns out our mayor was a crazy psychopath, who wanted to turn prey against predators, was darting them with a serum to make them go savage, tried to have my friend Nick turn on me, but we tricked her and-It's a long and crazy story and PLEASE turn on the news when you get a chance it's all over the airwaves.."
Bonnie's eyes grew wide. "... How did we NOT find out about this? Oh I am so giving your grandfather such a hard time when I see him next!"
"M-mom it's okay… I'm fine." Judy smiled reassuringly. "I'm just tired and a little sore… It's been a long day…"
Bonnie gave her a look going quiet for a moment.
"... Do you want me to ask Jack to go over there?"
"M-Mom, Jack has PLENTY of patients to deal with he doesn't need to make a house call on his sister." And oh gosh I do NOT need Jack and William hearing about THIS incident. "I'm okay…"
"Good… Because we are all so so proud of you… You're doing something no bunny has ever done before… And you've impressed us all." She smiled softly. "I love you sweetheart."
Judy smiled warmly. "I love you too Mom."
"Moommy! Will and Jack ate the last piece of cake."
"Is EVERYONE over there?" Judy asked trying not to laugh.
"Even Charlie and the little ones."
"Gosh you guys didn't tell me there was a family reunion."
"Grandpop and your grandmother insisted."
Judy giggled. "Alright you go deal with the cake thieves, lemme talk to Sophinator."
Bonnie nodded as she headed off handing the phone back to Sophie as the little bunny curled up in part of the room eager to talk to her favorite sister.
"Jude the Dude!"
"Soph, I got so much to tell you.. Oh where do I start?"
"From the beginning silly!"
"Alrighty…" Judy cleared her throat. "It all started my first day on the job, when I ran into a mysterious, fox…"
Who became easily one of my most trusted friends…
