Jamie felt the pain flare in his chest and his felt his body start to fall backwards and his back him the wall behind him. His knees gave out and he felt himself sliding to the ground. All noise was suddenly quiet and his thoughts were stopped. His eyes drifted to the sunset. Blood rolled out of his mouth and down his chin. His groceries lay scattered on the ground around him. Jamie felt no pain, but he could feel the warm blood seep from the round wound in his chest. He could feel the crimson blood soaking through his shirt and creating a puddle underneath him. Jamie didn't feel tired or weak, he felt as if he was frozen in time, although time continued to pass and he continued to bleed out on the concrete. Jamie could faintly hear sirens coming towards him. He hoped that Danny was in one of those cars, but he was doubtful.

Danny was cruising around in his car with Jackie. The radio crackled to life.

"Shots fired at a convenience store..." Danny was about to turn the radio down, but when they said the location he glanced at Jackie.

"We're close want to take it?"

"Sure." Danny flipped on his sirens and responded to the radio call.

When the car reached the parking lot of the grocery store, no other emergency vehicles had arrived. Jackie went to the store while Danny went to a man lying on the ground. He placed his fingers to the man's neck and found no pulse. He stood and his foot his a loose apple. Danny followed the trail of spilled groceries and stopped in his tracks. Tears instantly formed in his eyes and he ran to the figure.

"Jamie!" Danny sank to his knees, next to his fallen brother. Danny's pants were instantly soaked in blood. Jamie met Danny's eyes.

"D'ny."

"Hey kid. I'm here." Danny ripped his jacket off and balled it up and then placed it to Jamie's wound. Jamie groaned. "I'm sorry. I have to slow the bleeding."

"It's no use."

"Don't say that kid. You are going to make it."

"Shhh. Danny. I know I'm not." Jamie lifted his clear blue eyes to Danny's watery eyes. "I love you, Danny."

In that moment Danny realized that Jamie was not going to make it. There was too much blood and the ambulance was too far away. With his free hand he grabbed Jamie's limp one.

"I'm here, Jamie. It's ok to let go." Jamie took a couple of shaky breaths.

"The sunset is beautiful." Tears fell from Danny's eyes.

"I love you, Jamie." Danny voice broke. Jamie met his eyes one last time and then he took his last breath. Jamie's eyes closed and his body went limp. Danny held him in his arms, until the paramedics pried him away.

Danny slowly walked up the front steps. He clothes were covered in blood, Jamie's blood. He knocked on the door with a heavy heart. He could hear someone shuffling to the door. When I opened, Danny broke down. Frank was confused.

"Danny, what happened? Are you hurt?" Danny shook his head. "Then whose blood is that?" Danny lifted his head.

"Jamie's."

"What?"

"He's gone Dad." Tears welled up in Frank's eyes.

The room was packed with familiar and non familiar faces. Frank stood at the front giving his speech about a fallen officer. Not a person in the crowd had dry eyes. Danny let the tears roll down his face and kept his eyes on the coffin in the front of the room. Jamie didn't deserve this. Jamie was the glue that helped keep the family together. He was the one with the most hope.

"I love you, kid." Danny whispered. A cool breeze passed Danny and he heard a soft reply.

"Love you too, Danny."
